I'm confused that whether the bundled Wayfinder is ready to use or need to buy license?
I'm planning a trip to Malaysia, and the PC end Wayfinder map manager can download maps from Malaysia, so I use it to download the Malaysia map into my phone.
On my phone, I opened Wayfinder, and it ask me to buy... I chose "No thanks", and can view maps. But while viewing maps in Malaysia, it use my phone connection to download maps, but not use the maps I transferred with the PC end map manager.
Any tips or suggestions are appreciated.
i used wayfinder at one point...
go to options (bottom right) >> then disable phone connection, etc
didn't find a option to disable phone connection
Are you sure it is downloading the maps? Wayfinder does require an internet connection, but if you have installed maps, I don't think it is using the connection to download maps.
Did you install the maps to your phone using the maploader supplied on the SE install disk?
I have wayfinder installed on my X1 I used it when my TomTom went in for repair and it was terrible.
The navigating is ok and got me to where i wanted to go but it took me on such a weird route very long and via lots of traffic. Perhaps my tomtom 930t really works exeptionally and going back to wayfinder is "normal"?
I want tomtom on my X1 but dont justify the price. I tried downloading but it would not install so its god for emergencies but not for constant navigation.
Its ok as a free trial but thats all in my opinion

Has anyone got the Orange M700 to work with the GPS function on Google Maps? Or does the HTC rom have to be installed??
not sure I get what you mean.... do you mean run google maps on the M700 OR use the M700 as a GPS mouse and feed the signal to a lappy and run Google Maps on the lappy?
I have done the second way, BUT you need to upgrade your google maps for $20/year (iirc) which alows you to use the GPS functions.
Not sure about google maps on the M700 as it's a huge piece of software.
Otherwise TomTom 6 has Sat images built in for overlay onto the maps when route plotting.
I'm using Google maps for pocket PC on the M700. Everything is OK.
Sorry for not being very clear....
Google maps works fine as I am messing around with it just now, but i dont get a gps location when "track location (gps)" is selected, my M700 tries to locate satellites, but then fails. I was just wondering if this function worked
Super sheep, does the "track location (gps)" function work when you select it?
On the help pages there is no mention of having to pay a subscription to the gps service to enable it.
Deech, How do you access the sat maps on tomtom??
Thanks
They are built into tom tom 6 and some where in the set-up you can select the Sat overlays, not used it my self but they are there ;-)
/me is now looking google maps mobile ;-)
also El Reg has a report here about it
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/05/10/google_maps_uk/
edit....
Just fired up the wi-fi (keep down data costs) and grabbed google maps, activated the gps in "menu" 30 secs later my location shwn and everything
Just a thought how many other apps are running, first time I ran it it ran out of memory, however it looked like EVERYTHING was running ;-?
AND..... Googlemaps also has to be pointed to the Com9 port
It does?
Never touched it on my M700........... but hey ho ;-)
hey, just got it to work!!
Didnt have to point to com9.
I think the problem was that it normally takes quite a while to acquire the satellites when using tomtom. I dont think that google maps is patient enough before moaning that gps isnt present.
Quite cool, but will cost a fortune in GPRS/3G charges
I have a X01HT and live in Tokyo
Goggle map's "MyLocation" doesnt seem to work (Current Location temporarly unavailable)
However if I check in Help/About, I can see coordinates fo myl
Is there soemthing I havent unabl properly (I did unlock app install)
Or it's just that the service doesnt work in Japan ?
Sorry, this may seem like an obvious question. You have a gps device right? I also have a TyTN, external bluetooth solar GPS device and the my location works fine for me here in Tokyo with google maps.
If you need a GPS device PM me. I just purchased a kaiser and am unloading my Xo1ht and GPS device.
BTW if you do have a device it worked for me after I added a port for it, then associating that port with the google application.
Thanks
I was talking about the localization using the transmission towers (Doesnt use GPS)
If you sell your GPS independently from your Hermes I have interest to buy it
Maps are in Eglish or Japanese ?
look at the PC google maps for japan and you'll see if it's romanji or kanji.
But you cant use tower location positioning. It's not an option in the phone and I do believe you'd need it as a service from Softbank.

Thanks for the info, you're right it may be an extra service
I need alot of help since im new to the world of rom's and radios ok im using a sprint mogul and i want to enable gps on my phone using the official rom does this rom have the radio and the rom? or will i just get one and if i do just get one do i need to get the other one and if i do can u recommend one and give me a good detailed guide on how to do this i dont want to brick my phone or anything and im new to this so i need alot of help all help is appreciated
if you want to flash the oficial rom just download the exe from the HTC site, run it and follow the instructions, it will update both the rom and radio
rom
If I were you, I'd definitely do this on a XP computer. When I put the 3.35 HTC ROM on my Mogul through MS Vista, it got bricked 11% in. Both my XP and Vista computers wouldn't even recognize it as a mobile device. Anyway, after browsing forums for a few hours, I found some posts on how to fix it. It was painful, but it is possible to fix so don't panic if you screw up your first RM update.
Thanks i did it on my laptop took like 12minutes and worked like a charm i i just learned y they call it the tri-color screen now is upgraded to a cooked rom harder than flashing to a official rom?And how do i get the gps to work i have google maps but wat else do i need and will it cost money?

google maps should automatically detect your gps (at least it did for me) just select "Use GPS" from the menu
the only cost is data (for google maps anyway) so make sure you have a data plan, if not you can use a program like TomTom which has locally stored maps (to clarify the GPS functions are free, but googlemaps uses your data connection to download maps)

sometimes it takes as much as 30 minutes for an initial lock (its faster after that very first time) but it doesnt really work well indoors anyway, try it outside
i found this forum with one tahts free i just cant figure out which phone is mine on the download page there is no ppc6800 mogul titan i also heard that it can be called a p400o but thats not there either im using sprint.http://www.nav4all.com/site2/www.nav4all.com/eng/index.php
nav4all doesnt work on my sprint mogul.
it just keeps searching for a gps lock adn never gets there.
phone's a refurb from about a month ago; gps works fine under google but worked ****ty under telenav during the trail period.
if anyone knows how to make nav4all happy on a mogul i'd love to know.
I just received my Xperia X1, its an amazing device.
The interface is very smooth.
But I cant get the GPS working. I tried already a few thing.
1)In google maps setting the GPS configuration at COM4 (all speeds tried)
It keeps saying "There is no GPS receiver found" (translated from dutch)
2)Using the Quick fix program and than retried google maps
3)Configurating the external GPS function but when I pres ok, I have the idea that the configuration isn't saved. When I restart the app It shows up like before.
4)Running GPS test: It just keeps scanning
The device is SIM-lock free with a standard duth ROM.
I hope sombody kan help me because I wont like to send it back to the shop.
Sorry for my bad english.
I don't know what exactly you are setting up there but you don't need a COM-Port for the built in GPS. Just let Windows handle the settings (Point one to choose in the GPS-Setup in Google Maps).
But you have to activate the GPS in Google Maps with "Menu --> use GPS".
Then you need to go outside to let the satellites get a view (after a minute Google Maps should have found you.)
And "Use GPS" is NEVER saved. You always have to select it every single time you load Google Maps.
Pretty annoying really but I do not think there is anything you can do about it.

I can't say I do not like this...I use google maps just to look around the area or to search a nice spot for the next vacation or simply to play around. The battery would drain very fast if GPS was enabled all the time. Of course, if you use google maps to navigate this can be quite annoying. But for me, I use TomTom to navigate and don't need GPS in google maps. (Okay, the one time I was standing somewhere on a mountain and wanted to get a overview of the landscape from above -therefore the GPS was useful )
But referring to the question:
Do your GPS now work?
I am also having problems trying to get GPS signal using Google map. Then, i was told by SE support that it will require a data connection (WIFI or GPRS) for it to work. Is this correct?
You will need a data connection to receive the maps. You shouldn't need it for the GPS to work, however you will appear in the middle of nowhere as there are no graphics of the area you are in.
I got it working, I tried it again today.
I did just the same as yesterday and now it works.
What do I love self healing devices
Have absolutely no idea what is different??
I only installed the TF3D cab but that cant make a diference.
Well it could just be the weather. Understandably it takes a lot longer to get a lock in poor weather conditions. You did not mention how long you gave it to start working when you tried before.
Google Maps often seems to take a lot longer than Tom Tom to get a lock. Also, QuickGPS does make a HUGE difference so I would recommend keeping that up to date when it asks you (every week, or at least right before you intend to use GPS).
I noticed that there's no way to get free GPS software to work with my HD, so which ones you guys recommend? I heard the google maps charges way too much based on how many times it is used and data.
Can these softwares once bought provide different maps? I travel different places around the world.
thanks
The best GPS navigation software in my opinion is TomTom 7. However, it does not have maps in every country. Therefore, I have about 4 different GPS in my HD. For asian countries, the best one is MapKing.
Do need to have internet connection for GPS to work?
Does the GPS needs some data service to work? or does it work like a regular GPS?
Or is it based on the software used?
thanks,

No, you do not need internet connection for software such as TomTom, iGO, Mapking and Garmin. Only if you use such additional services (strictly optional) that such connections are needed. Most people use only the map data which resides on the device itself, unlike Google Map, which need to download the map data as you use it.
question on Garmin
I noticed Garmin might work for me in the US (don't know in Europe) but the packaging details that it comes with a cd and a memory card. So how am I supposed to use that if I got my 16gig memory on????
thanks,

3D buildings in GPS navigation is so useless, your looking outside the windscreen so everything is 3D anyways.
