Before the Polaris I had a XDA Neo, which ran only at 195Mhz. However it seemed that the Neo was able to scroll the symbols within Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer smoother than the Polaris does. How can this be as the Polaris is clocked at an even higher speed and has a more powerful hardware in all aspects than the XDA Neo ? Screen refresh while scrolling is often very jerky on the Polaris within the Windows controls, it even slows down while tabbing on the screen sometimes so badly !
Is there any driver that would accelerate the response within the Windows controls ? Why do all people ask for a 3d driver if there is hardly any application available that could utilize it ? I think the 2d performance is also way behind. Is it the Windows Mobile GDI driver what is missing or is it available but in a very generic version ?
are you using the original rom? because the cooked roms here on xda are a lot faster than what htc gave us. maybe you can try one of them. Be sure to read how to hardspl etc, because it is not without risk!
Re
Using the latest SWTOS. After Bepe 0.67 it seems to be a fastest and most stable option available.
I know, my 4 year old pda can scroll smoother. On my polaris all windows stuff is slow, scrolling, tabbing, opening windows. Doens't matter what rom. Only the Manilla 2D part is smooth...
I don't see the use of the 3D drivers either when the 2D isn't even good. I think Windows is just badly implemented on the Polaris.
Use this attachment...
Be aware that "Use this attachment..." means loosing zoom/overview functionality in Pocket Internet Explorer...
what's the point, IE is a POS browser anyway. Opera mobile is the way to go. my 0.02.
^
totally agree
just leave IE far behind and use a better browser like opera
anyway, why opera 9.5 is limited only 3 tabs opened at the same time?
can it be fixed or it's just the way it is?
The problem is not just IE.
For example;
When I go to All Programs and start scrolling it seems very slow as if every icon is refreshing 10 times... The same when I click the task manager in the upper right corner, the whole startbar flickers like it is refreshing.

I totally second this.
It's a shame that we have to stick with a problem like this.

Yeah I got that too. And I totally agree. My sister own a HTC P4350 and she is not having problem with icon refreshing.
IMO, if there is some 2D drivers able to fix that, i'd prefer to have them rather than 3d drivers ^^ (Even if both will be great)

Ok look that :

The video was not on a polaris but it's exactly what I have.
Seems to be a GDI driver problem or something.

That's exactly the problem yes, I think it's another bad implementation issue from htc.
I don't have this issue on the stock WM6.0 ROM. The icons scroll pretty fast in Programs. I think I did some reg tweak on the TouchFLO scroll speed to get it like that but it was a long time ago so don't remember details.
Also forgot to say, that scrolling issue is different than the IE scrolling issue. That fix that's attached to this thread (if I think is the same one) does fix scrolling within IE to make it faster but don't think that will fix your scrolling in Programs folder.
I stand by my earlier point, use a different browser, IE is not all that.
Yes i'm already using opera, I didn't even know IE was slow, never used it
I can also confirm the problem with 2D on my 6.0 stock rom. It is too bad because the device should be preaty fast. And this polaris problem isn't only at scroling, it's about everything we do on the screen: press stard button, open a window, closing a window... everything has a lag.
As far as I remember, i got this problem with all the roms I tried :
- sfr 6.0 base rom
- syrius r0
- sfr 6.1 rom
Also, this problems don't seems to be on every polaris. Guess we will never have a way to fix it...

Why install Opera Mini when you can Get full Opera Mobile 9.5?
http://www.opera.com/products/mobile/
When the coverable is only 2G (GRPS) opera mini becomes the best way. A page with 200 KB reachs the pda with 30-40KB so surfing is possible...
no problems here! installed mini 4.1!
i perfer mini 4.1, it loads pages so fast!

I am running Opera Mini without problems. How have you installed it? I always open www.operamini.com in PIE and install it that way and have never had any problems with installing it
It was configured to use "My Work Network" instead of "My Isp". Now works. Thanks !!
Dani
mini works really well at this resolution, but for gprs webbrowsing (especially forums) netfront on it's simple browsing mode is hard to beat, certainly for speed.
on a java topic, has anyone got java google mail 2 beta to install, I get java lang errors when I try to start it
Downloaded opera mini, but it seems to be a bit dodgy when opening the keyboard to go landscape. Sometimes the thing just goes to a white screen and I have to hit the end button to get back to Windows...
i have downloaded the mini opera from my phone. once i close it.. i can't find is it located at.
can someone help?
are you guys talking about the new opera mini panel? or the regular?
cause if you didnt know, there is a panel available at Sonyericsson.com

That's not a "Panel" on the SE website but "Software", which is the same thing as people have been talking about.

Try to update to Opera Mini 4.2 and to the version with multiple certificates. It will only ask you once for internet connection and save you the time. It works perfectly in landscape too
On a wifi connection is opera mini better than opera mobile? My opera mobile crashes quite often when i zoom in b4 the page finishes loading

Opera Mini with WiFi is the fastest way to browse the internet The second one is Netfront 3.5 concept version, which is a lot faster than opera mobile and renders AJAX pages very nicely (not in design but for fast use).
where is it located after installed to the phone? I can't find it.
thank you.

Hi guys!
Im looking for a webbrowser that works with my Touch HD in landscape mode. Googled a bit and actually didnt find that many answers...
Thankful for any help I can get.
I would like to join you in your question.
Opera crashes if I turn HD to landscape (not really closes, but screen jumps to Home)
Anyone knows y?
Something you've installed or changed, I guess. Works fine in landscape for me.
If you installed the color top bar, than that is your problem most likely. Install a different top bar.

It may be bull****, but it's the best WM browser available. The WM standard Internet Explorer is available in Programs, you can also try Opera Mini or Skyfire.

Does Skyfire even start on HD?
When I start a program on the HD2 it stays active untill I go to Setting - Other - Taskmanagement and deactivate all.
On my previous HD I had a setting where I could choose to deactivate the program when I choose the [x] on the upperright of the screen. Now there is no possibility to do such a thing and to go to [Setting]-[Other]-[Taskmanagement] each time is not my prefered way of working...
Does anyone knows how to do this on HD2?
Thanks!
I think there should be a taskmaneger settings where you can set on "x" button to close programs not just minimalize. I had it in my TP2 with leo rom i think.
nope, there isnt one.
you need to use the taskmanager
install Showcase, that is similar app... tha press and hold right upper corner...
showcase works great. thnx
not as handy as the quick menu like the HD but this works fine for me

Showcase did not work on my HD2.
Leo (HD2) comes without HTC Task Manager and this is why you don't have the option to close apps by using "X"
You can install the HTC Task Manager by cab and you will get this functionality.
^where do I get the cab miri?

Are there any performance issues, when installing the HTC Task Manager?
Or what is the reason, why it comes without it?
Because HTC did it again...

if you mean navigation,
i use garmin. with all the extras on it,
gps fix is made within in a minute.
with my hd1 it took like 2 or 3 minutes before i've got a fix
I don't know the reason and don't see it causing problems. I'm using it on my ROMs and there are no problems with it.
Probably because HD2 has bigger RAM HTC has thought that it's better to leave apps open on the phone...this way they open faster
I don't have the cab, but you can search on the forums.

If you don't like Showcase, or for whatever other reason, another option is MobileSRC's Flipper (http://www.mobilesrc.com/flipper.aspx). It's got other features besides a task manager (you need to purchase the app if you want to use more than two features at a time), but I've found it works perfectly well as a free task manager.
I don't know how it'll work with the HD2, though, as I'm still waiting mine to arrive, but the app works fine with my TP2.
It's weird that HTC removed the Task Manager. Ok it's a "beast" and can run lots of apps at the same time, but the task manager was a nice way to close apps we don't want open.
This should work.

excellent, I cannot imagine not have a little 'X' to close programs...
In the last rom´s that i use, all the W_M 6.5 version have the Auto close app feature to free automatically program memory. I have find out that with 60% of use of memory this feature begins to auto close all the app that i put on background. This can be a problem in the case where you wan´t listen music (S2P) and make something else in other app. It will be close S2P on the time you open the next app. Someone can check out any registry modification to disable this feature on the news rom??
Thank you
Sorry for my bad english.
i have the same problem.
I'm surprised that nobody speak about this problem.
thanks
I'm running the latest 2.5 Energy Rom and i don't have this problem, i don't usually have many apps open a at the same same time, but deffinatelly i have 2 or even three at the same time (including s2p) and i don't recall this ever happening.
I suggest that you try a rom that is lighter on memory usage.
I use also the EnergyROM and Skype and other Messengers are closed after a while. Ok, I don't use the latest EnergyVersion, but it is maybe 3 weeks old.
It also happens with my Hermes and Raphael..
My Hermes (Dopod 838 pro) running official WM6 ROM
My Raphael (HTC Touch Pro) running stock WM6.1 ROM (Version 1.9)
It's a big problem, I can't keep my Twitter, downloader, and Messenger app to run at the background..
Try using Advanced config tool. Go to HTC Task Manager and Disable Auto Kill.
Yes, I have do it..
