Is there any way to stop ActiveSync from running automatically on my Wing. I close it, and 5 minutes later its up again. I've searched the forum but most tricks are for phones other than the Wing. I tried some anyway (the creating a fake server..then deleting it..etc) but to no avail. It's really annoying. If anyone could offer some advice it would be GREATLY appreciated.
If it helps I'm currently running OTP v7.4 TouchFlo 2D Lite.
try setings/phone/timezone uncheck the auto check timezones and softreset this helped with it disconecting internet sharing for me im asuming you already unchecked the use usb option in active sync

Trust me. you might have to just deal with it. I tried the adding the fake server and disable the schedule with and without deleting that profile. I've tried disabling the time in the Phone Settings (which only certain ROMs have). I've tried using the advanced taskbar to go to notifications to terminate the repellog which had a certain description to it. And the end, activesync comes back mysteriously. Those methods were a temporary solution for me thus far.
P.S. I do not consider unchecking USB connection via Activesync since most people use it frequently especially in XDA.
Edit:
I'm also currently using Tran's 7.4 lite at the moment. I've tried the rest with same results and that's why I posted in this thread.

Using Total Commander (or some other File Explorer utility), navigate to /Windows/Startup. Delete repllog.lnk. This will prevent ActiveSync from starting when you turn your phone on. You'll have to run it manually if you want to sync your phone via ActiveSync, but I find this to be far less annoying.

Active sync is automatically loaded by default in the windows system for every program you run as it stores information for when you next connect the pc via usb. You can stop this by using the software on the pc which allows you to control certain functions in activesync. Just open the program on your pc when you connect the smart phone and uncheck all the options for what you wish to sync, next time you use this you will have to manually select what you want to sync. This is mirrored on the phone each time you connect. Works with most smart phones.

Just bought the Cruise. Generally very happy with it. But, there are a few wierd things. Let me describe some of them:
1. When I'm in the Home tab and want to go to the Weather tab to check the situation it automatically wants download even if I've just done one a minute before. I can go into it six times in one minute and it will start to download each time. Normal?
2. When my Cruise has not been in use for some time, five minutes to half an hour and I want to use the phone I switch it on and find myself in a programme. It could be contacts or a third party programme that I have installed. To use the phone I have to exit the open programmes first. Normal?
3. I sometimes go into the Comm Manager and find that the Data Connection is on (for no reason). I'm getting a bit paranoid imagining that my phone bill is going to be high because of these situations. Normal?
Or is it just me?
Thanks
Brian
I have never noticed such the behavior, haven't read that anyone there in xda-dev board has noticed things like this. If you still have an original rom I would recommend you to do hard reset and to try to use your device without to install anything for some days to check how it will behave.
i would really recommend a hard reset. if u call them thats exactly what they gonna tell u
If this would be a pc I would think about some sort of trojan has got control over it.
Spamkit: There are NO trojans for Win Mobile. HTC Weather has a timeout of 2 Hours. Maybe O2 did something to the plugin to make it download more often and generate bills

Brian, what you need just to click on your prefferable city on Weather Tab, then go to Menu-Weather Options-remove tick on "Download weather data automatically"
Click to collapse
Try to disable "Download weather data automatically". It can be the cause of data connection activate so you can solve 2 problems at same time.
To do it, tap on your city in HTCHome; in next windows you should have a menu (Bottom right). In Menu Option and remove (by tapping it) flag near the voice Download Data Automatically.
So, you can decide when download data manually tapping the apposite function in HTCHome -weather main page.

As described, turn off auto-update. If turned on and you went over 2h with the last update, the Cruise tries to update every time you switch to the tab, unless you let it update. Then it'll try next in 2h.
I switch it on and find myself in a programme

Do you lock the phone or just turn it off? Sounds like you inadvertedly start programs in your pocket when the Phone wakes up for some reason. I'd recommend to lock the screen before you turn off your phone. If you are unhappy with the built in lock, install S2U2 which is superior to the WinMo built in lock and will keep your phone locked unless you willingly unlock it. It's available here in the forums.

This is in fact disturbing, I agree. Reason is probably the Weather Tab which tries to update in the background or do you use Push-Email or set Outlook to automatically check after a given amount of time? If all that doesnt matter to you and you just want the connection to be dead unless you want it to connect: try MoDaCo NoData. A handy tool which allows you to selectively disable and enable GPRS/3G-Connections. I attached it to this post.

This reads like it is a trojan. But it's all bull: there is no silent or unattended installation possible on Windows Mobile. You'll always see the progressbar, and most probably you'd have to select where to install it to. What it does is turn the "Are you really...?"-screen off. So if you catch/caught it: it's your own fault...

Schaggo and all of you- Thanks for your amazing input. I have returned from being out there and I'll update what I've done.
1. Switched off the auto weather.
2. Set up the Mo Da Co programme and toggled off all possible access via my Service Provider. (I'll have to toggle off the service after I've used it, right?)
3. I do use Push-eMail, but I generally go into the Comm manager and switch off the Push-eMail service manually.
4. The only thing I'm not usre about is the setting of Outlook to automatically check for emails. Where does one switch it on to "manual"?
The business with locking: Is it a good thing? Since I have not tried it, how does it work? Once you have locked the phone and someone calls: Do you have to unlock before answering?
By the way, the stuff about the "Trojan" is BS, I think. So I'll stop there.
Thanks a lot for the help. I'll check it and get back to you with feedback.
Brian
Go into your mail and choose tools/options, choose the account in question and select send/recieve schedule. There you can set to manual.

Push-eMail means "as item arrives" setting in ActiveSync/Menu/Schedule. You can also specify Every .... minutes or Manually. Last one is connecting only when you start Send/Receive in Pocket Outlook.
S2U2 is great. Try it. It has Slide to Unlock feature and allows to answer calls same way. It's fully configurable to your needs and easy to uninstall if you don't like it. Had same problems and S2U2 helped.

I have noticed that my phone loosing battery very fast (below in 35% after a day). I also noticed that the activesync keeps on running in the background ?
Please advise
Thanks
Same happens here, even if i shut active sync down it still restarts after a while ?
Theres been a load of threads about this already; basically no one has figured out how to get it to stop completely yet (as far as I know). I've tried the activesync killer as well as other methods too.
Carrying out the False Server works and stops Activesync showing.
However, what I still find is at midnight my phone comes alive then shuts off after the time value (in my case after 2 mins).

SOLUTION!!!
there are many posts here - i found 2 solutions:
1 - cab file (active sync killer) - did NOT work for me
2 - worked for me great!!! here is the solution:
Ok so click on > settings then > task manager and when you see AS running click and HOLD on it, it will give option 'add exclusive' then click on next tab called 'exclusive' and you should see AS in there also, the box should be not be ticked
JOB DONE!!! this works great!!!
thanks! it helped me disabling it too

Yes, still running at background.
not for me! its never there when i check -
how are you seeing it running in background?
does this work or is it still there? just not showing it?
yes doesnt exclusive mean you are adding activesync to be excluded from being terminated and therefore just hiding it?

From the HD WiKi:
In new devices out of the box Activesync is on all the time. To fix this you need to make a fake MS Exchange account setup (obviously this is for people that don't use the Exchange server).
Go to Activesync/menu/configure server, fill in all of the empty spaces of the pages with fake info, i.e. "[email protected] etc.
After filling in all the empty boxes, click next and uncheck all boxes sync options, Contacts etc. , then click Finish.
Now go to Activesync/Menu/Schedule and change the sync times to "Manually" , now click OK. Finished!
There is now a fake Exchange server that switches off the Activesync from starting itself.
NOW. If you want your Activesync to work but turn off each time you disconnect your USB sync cable, load the app called Activesync Killer at this link into internal memory http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=386948
That is it. Activesync will operate when needed and turn off when the cable is disconnected.
-------------------------------------------
In addition to the above fix, do this Tweak:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2481033&postcount=81
Activesync doesn't start anymore and the only time it doesn't close after use is when I've been connected with the "Disk Drive" connect option. In this case, just close Activesync after using Disk Drive with the normal taskmanager on the HD.
No its still running on Background damnn!! Why??? How can i close AS for ever??

If you follow the directions, Activesync will stop running.
I am glad I found this thread as I also noticed this.
I will try the above shortly.
Will this also stop the pop up of exchange trying to connect (it says correct my details or something as it cannot connect) when I am plugged in via USB?
Now this is strange.......
I'm happy with the Fake Server routine (been using it for years on my other Pocket PC's).
However, what I noticed two night back was at midnight the Blackstone woke up and then after 1 minute shut off again.
Last night when it woke up I managed to pick it up whilst it was on and did a search to see what was running.
According to the Blackstone... Nothing!!
Now something is waking the device up at midnight and I would like to say it's not Activesync.
Before I start off a new topic I'd like to first post this here and ask if anyone else has noticed if their device is switching on at midnight.

Please try:
1) Turn of a.s. in drop down menu in top right corner
2)Connect to P.C.as disc drive, then remove
A.S. should be disabled. Please report back if successful.
I found it by accident and it works for me.

Thanks but AS never did show in the drop down menu.
I also tried connecting to my PC both under Disk Drive and AS after I noticed it.
Again, to all sense and purposes the Fake Server trick works in that it does not launch AS anymore..... It's just this weird starting of my Blackstone at midnight which has me baffled.
It never did it prior to the Fake Server trick so I have to assume it is something to do with AS.
...and again I am happy with the Fake Server trick. I've been doing it for years on different Pocket PC's.

Implemented 'fake' server method; all is well (no resurrection-midnight or otherwise). Been using this method on a previous device for few years, now on the Blackstone.
Hi,
So here's what I want to do:
I have a folder on my pc with files in it. I want that to sync that with a Cloud storage type system online. Then I want a folder on my Touch Pro 2 to sync with that online folder. Now I know what your thinking and before you flame me with stuff like dropbox, sugarsync, mesh, myphone etc... they can't do that. They sync from pc to online just fine, but then on the tp2 I have to navigate to the web to retrieve files, or with sugarsync there is an app to install and I can load the app and download the files to a folder that way. I don't want to do that. I want a folder to always stay sync'd. I've search all over and can't find that kind of functionality. This would be real handy in a scenario where i need to constantly sync 5 or more phones together with multiple pc's. I don't want to tell the user, ok go to www.getdropbox.com or load this or load that...
I hope I am just missing something and it does exsist.

Unless i missed something, then it only works that way if your able to install mesh and sign in on your phone. I didnt think they were accepting anymore ppl for testing on mobile devices. I installed it and checked just to see. Without this, your forced to grab files from the web.

No clue about why it would crash. It doesn't matter anyway, you can't use it. It's closed to new people.
Anyone have any thoughts about the actual topic of this thread? There has to be a way... No one needs to do this?!

How would that be deviating? If there is a way to get into Mesh and it's not closed, that would potentially directly solve the original post.

I will report if this works. Thanks!
it definitely worked for me. you'll see that windows mobile becomes an option in your mesh after visiting this link. but getting the program to validate on your device (touch pro 2) is hit or miss. i just had to try it many times and finally it worked. then there is also an issue of the program crashing upon startup that i mentioned above. i've narrowed that down to being related to the memory card. the program will start if i remove the memory card prior to executing it. i can then put the memory card back in while the program is in the login screen and it works. still trying to find a better solution. let me know if you have any luck.

Been playing with it all night. So far it's working flawlessly. No crashes at all. I have a 8gb storage card. It's sync'd to and from 1 other verizon phones, and 4 pc's... It's cool, you take a pic with your phone and voila it's on my wife's phone too, as well as the mobile picture directory at home. Would love to help you get it working too. Have you checked out this forum?

You can also use Remote Touch. It doesn't sync, but it does allow you to transfer files remotely, back and forth from your desktop and your phone. And of course, you get the added benefit of controlling your desktop remotely with your phone.
When I'm in a hurry to leave the office I'll queue a bunch of files in RemoteTouch and have my phone download them while I'm on the road.

Can you tell me the exact phone you have? Is it the Verizon touch pro 2? Maybe it's my brand of memory card? It's definitely good when it's working.
Also, did you have any trouble validating the phone on the mesh? Took me several attempts and it seems other people had the same issue. I have been to the site you linked a little bit but maybe more research is in order.

No, I certainly couldn't say "robustly." It's more like "haphazardly."
After searching both here and on google I have not found anything so I'm hoping some of you may be able to help me out with two minor annoyances.
I have noticed that several applications can run without showing up in the task manger (both dutty and the regular one).
Is there a way to see and/or close these applications?
I have WorldMate installed and even though I have disabled auto updates it still connects. So my second question is this:
Is there a way to see what applications are using a data connection (preferably the exact executable)?
Thanks in advance!
I think the standard HTC one (included with the phone) is able to shut down more, but l'm not sure about your problems.
If you have a search through the apps section then i think I've seen something in there that tells you what is using your data (data monitor of some sort?)
Sorry I can't be of more help.
Owen.
in standard task manager click menu view processes to see lots more of what is running.
I upgraded my Windows 7 PC to Windows 8 (read: not a clean install) a few nights ago. Everything worked great, until recently. I changed the setting in PC settings to make everything appear larger. Now when I choose "Change PC settings" from the settings charm, I get the message: "This app can't open. There's a problem with PC settings. Refreshing your PC might help fix it."
Everything else seems to be working fine, but I am now stuck with a huge interface and no way to get into the PC settings. I have tried all of the obvious things (searching google/xda, restarting the PC, power off and on, etc.) As I understand it, performing a refresh will keep my Windows 8 apps, but will wipe out all my desktop programs. Am I correct in this? I really would like to avoid this, as I have a lot of programs installed, some of which I have lost the discs/installers for. What do you guys think?
EDIT: Now that I think about it, this also means I don't have access to many other important items such as Windows Update and user accounts.

Correct me if I am wrong but if you can get to the modurn settings to do a refresh then you should be able to do an advanced boot. I thnk there is a repaire install there that will not wipe out your programs. That said if you find something as wimple as setting to make things bigger has done this there could be a host of bugs but it may be worth trying to find the registry entry for this and changing it back to see if it fixes the problem. Not sure where it is but google is good here - always backup the registry before making changes.
