Hi all,
I just upgraded my O2 XDA Orbit with the Artemis_Touch_4.02_Vanilla ROM. All went well and it looks really nice, I'm wondering what sort of performance I should expect though? First impressions are that it's quite sluggish, I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to perk it up?
Thanks,
Toby

Hi all,
I have an XDA exec, and am looking to change it for a Wizard. How much difference (if any) is there in the speed of these devices, as I understand the Wizard doesn't use an Intel processor it uses Texas Instruments.
Does this mean having to get different binaries ? or do ARM ones still work ?
How do these devices compare... any thoughts appreciated.
Cheers
Well i had an exec and made the exact same decision as you are thinking of making. I have no regrets believe me. First and foremost the phone part works brilliantly, secondly it seems faster to me than the exec, you dont look like a tit when you answer it and it doesnt weigh a ton.
Things i miss:-
VGA Screen
3g Data speed
Nicer keyboard
Things i dont miss:-
Useless phone
Slow speed
Weighty
Large and hard to use
Any more questions just ask
Chris

Phew, glad it's working out for you Chris!
I switched too...
I had an exec and now I HAVE A WIZARD... I will never look back. I miss the VGA screen but that's about it.

Have both but going to sell my exec.
Again will only miss the beautiful VGA screen.
Would O2 do a straight swap for the wizard (xda mini) or did you guys buy and sell yours privately ?
EDIT: Only within the first 14 days
Anyone wanna swap a XDA exec, bought in october 2005 for a xda mini (wizard) in black.
PM me if interested
Thanks for the responses gents, seems like a unanimous decision all round to me
Just to uphold the concensus ...
I got the Exec first , then an MDA Vario
I must say I agree with all that is said so far , the only downside is the size of the screen and the lack of 3G (no big deal IMO ) But in it's (the vario's) favour , it is a much better PHONE than the Exec , and I do need my device to be able to function as a phone as well as making the tea etc.
I am a bit gutted , as I loved the Exec , and feel sad that the Vario has rendered it almost obsolete (for my needs , at least)
Tried to sell the Exec on Ebay , but had a bit of trouble - and to be honest I was quite pleased , as I don't REALLY want to sell it :? , but can't really justify keeping it either !
I could have written that post!
I have the O2 mini and Exec. Why? Well I got the Exec through my work when upgrading and I got the mini for myself as it looked agreat bit of kit. Have had both for about three weeks.
Guess what is sitting there not getting used - the Exec!!! Sure it has a great screen and the keyboard is a flashback to the Psion 5 but for sheer convenience it has to the the mini - excellent (not fantastic a an actual phone but a great all rounder).
It will be inetresting what will be out this time next year!
Anyone want an Exec?
I have to agree with everything above. I had an Universal for about 6 weeks and loved it, however, I did find it totally unpractical as an everyday phone and ended up diverting calls to an old Nokia, which sort of defeated the object!! I then saw a K-Jam in PC World and it was love at first sight Got a fantastic deal from T-Mob (Vario) and have never looked back. I think the Universal is a great bit of kit but the Wizard does it for me every time
hey everyone.. i posted about a week ago my tytn was for sale.. i threw it up oin ebay if anyones still interested

thanks
why do you sell?
Please allow this question: Why do you sell your TyTn already?
I am about to buy one, but if I read through this forum, all I can see is problems and complaints.
I once had the MDA compact, which was really good. Then I changed to the Vario, which was in some cases not as good as the compact.
Now, that my Vario got stolen, I am looking for the successor, but unfortunately I can not find so many positive posts here.
So if your reason to sell is your disappointment about the device, please share and let me know.
Thanks and regards,
A. Rossband
the vario II is the best PDA Phone I've ever had. I have owned an MDA Compact, vario, and an MDA pro.
I await a firmware upgrade to fix a few video playback issues, and the camera is still wishy washy at best; but as a web browser and as a phone it is simply a pleasure to use. I'm very happy with the battery life too.
I have no issues with this phone that won't be resolved with future updates, and even these don't particularly bother me now.
I truly believe that this is the best HTC phone available at the moment.
Hello aro,
I have my TyTN for about a week now and I love it.
Before buying it I also read a lot in the forum and got a bit scared especially about the screen alignment (and some other) problems which IMHO seems to be hardware related issues.
Anyway I still decided to buy the device and take the risk of having it replaced.
I tried most of the available ROMs and ended up with the iMate (JasJam I think) ROM which for me is very fast and stable.
IMHO all the negative reports here are for two reasons:
1. It is a quite new device so some initial problems are unevitable.
2. One of the main purposes of forums like this is to discuss problems so of course it is full of them. I think/hope there are a lot of ppl like me out there very happy with their TyTN but not posting about it on the forum.
So my conlusion is this. If you are willing to take the risk about the hardware issues meaning you may have to get a replacement if you are unlucky (I tried to figure out how common these problems really are - see point 2 - but without satisfying results) and if you don't mind some initial software flaws then go for it.
IMHO it is a great device and well worth the money.
Otherwise wait a couple of months to be on the safe side.
I hope this helps you in your decision process and maybe a few other happy TyTN users like myself can post here, too
Kind regards,
Uli
P.S. I had a Magician before and although I was very satisfied with it, it is nothing compared with the TyTN
Yes, totally agree with hukoeth... another happy Hermes user here!
Well, I bought an O2 XDA Exec. After some issues I'm up and running. I've upgraded to WM6 and loving it. Now, I really don't want to read through million pages of the recommended software thread. Can you guys recommend the best of the best? I'm mainly looking for freeware games and stuff.
Hey folks,
I've tried searching and there's no forthcoming result on this (despite that I suspect it *must* have been covered somewhere) - perhaps it's my dyslexia?
Anyway:
I'm now ready to install a WM6 ROM on my currently WM5 hermes from Tmobile.
I'm looking for people's opinions as to whether it's worth my while and what the performance differences are? (obviously it's a lot of work getting things set up again so I want to be sure it's worthwhile).
Is WM6 running slower on hermes that WM5? or faster?
Has anyone a ROM they would reccomend? Else I'll go with the Tmobile standard.
So opinions please!
Thanks a lot guys. I appreciate it!
cmon!!! you cant be serious!!!!
ppl are looking to upgrade their devices to wm6.1 and you want us to compare wm5 to wm6? i mean seriously......look at every device thread, even the older devices, you can practically see wm6/6.1 for almost every single devices, even devices which are waaaay older than wm6. and you probaby wont find anyone getting excited over any wm5 releases anywhere.......doesnt that tell you something?/
if you searched hard enough, you could probably find someone who compared the performance of wm5 to wm6 but those will probably be with older builds of wm6, and those just dont compare with the current builds. your best bet i would say is to try it out urself, its not that hard.
I know it's not that hard to test it - I'm already running it on my blue-angel.
And it's running well.
But comparing hermes to blue angel is comparing apples to oranges.
It's a *huge* amount of work doing the upgrade. Not the actual upgrade. That's, as you say, rediculously easy. But installing 20/30 medical textbooks? dozens of other programs, fixing out my network setup on it....
these take hours, and in a casual not setting hours aside for it fashion a couple of weeks.
So I'm understandibly not wanting to take the risk and plung in until I'm sure it'll be worthwhile.
Anyone got any experience? Has WM6 upgraded the speed? or is the slight graphical revamp a strain on the processor?
Also should I go with tmobile's own ROMs for WM6 or a community alternative?
Opinions pretty pretty please to save me hours of work!
2 words.......user customization
there truly is a HUGE diffrence between wm5 and wm6/6.1. i would recomend going with a WM6.1 build from the get go considering all the programs you say you load on your hermes.
I am currently using the DVH Rom build 19400(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=387516 ). I find it to be the fastest, loaded but not bloated, and honestly is the best i've used in quit some time. He has apparently released a new rom (build 19701) but i have yet to try it out. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=388747)
best of luck
molesaied88, TRY 19701, ITS FREAKIN AWESOME!!!!!!!Quick and VERY stable... I love it.
Thanks folks.
Sorry I took ages to reply i had exams! Right so you guys are advocating using a custom home cooked WM6 Rom rather than an original one?
(I'm assuming these are faster? Are they fully featured though?)
Now I'll need to decide whether to go with Ultra or molesaid's suggestion. Anyone know which is currently running more spritely?
Again thanks again! I know the forum must be deluged with this kind of stuff
I have found WM6 to be much, much more stable than when I had WM5. Not as many lock ups of freezing as before. I used to have to soft reset my phone all the time because of lock ups, but with WM6 I rarely reset my phone anymore.
I would say that stability and the larger pool of programs for it made WM6 the choice for me.
Hello everyone
First of all, awesome forum and lots of respect to u all!
I just have a small but important question, Im in the market for a HTC Blackstone and is the anything in particular I should think of before buying it? Like ROM version etc?
I've had mine a few months now and delighted with it. The standard ROM was OK, but it was transformed when I start trying new ROMS's.
Have tried a fair few and currently using Dutty's 6.5 Leo R4 ROM. It's fantastic. Stable, fast and has everthing I need on it.
Way better than those feckin' Apple phones which I briefly looked at!!
