I'm still working on setting up the perfect UC for my phone. I'd like to know where to find these settings (whether in a file or the registry, doesn't matter).
1) Regional settings
2) Windows live account (including e-mail)
3) Other e-mail accounts (POP3 as well as IMAP)
Thanks in advance!
regional settings would be in hklm\nls
so for me in ENG-US id use DefaultLCID 0x409
Live settings are here
hklm\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live
Not sure about pop/imap as i don't use these on my phone (and not quite sure what you're trying to do ), but try hlkm\system\inbox\settings or hklm\software\microsoft\inbox and search around in there.
I guess the easiest way would be to add a pop or imap account and just search the registry for the name of the account.

Sorry
Please forgive my intrusion, can someone please enlighten me as the what "UC" stands for? I have seen it mentioned a few times and just can't place it.

Interesting. I understand this makes a snapshot of my entire registry so it can be compared?

Thanks! The regional ones I would not have found without help.
I had already found that windows live folder, but I'm not sure if that actually restores my e-mail account too if I'd import it.
Krazp. Tried beyondcompare, but beside some system state keys and a bunch of hex values (maybe that's it), nothing along the lines of e-mail accounts changed! T.T
I do know it's possible to set them up using provisioningxml, but I just can't get it right that way, as I don't know the possible functions.
Very cool program Jack! Doesn't look easy to import Angelusz... I ran it against idiffce and came up with tons of changes at:
(incl subkeys)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\PIMSources\1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Security\CredMan\Creds\ (this one looks tricky because the values change each time)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Extensions\ContextMenus\Contacts\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\Windows Live
*.mpb files in \Windows\Messaging
MxpDatabase.db
WindowsLive.vol
cemail.vol
pim.vol
edit: found this key too that wasn't in the change log... HKCU\Software\Microsoft\pMSN\SavedUsers

Yes, i've seen similar questions asked but Windows Mobile 2005 in usual Microsoft Stupidity doesnt seem to have any import functions. My contacts and calendar items are all stored on google contacts and my mac. Since I cant use activesync I need someway of importing these items. Now im not sure there is any method to do this. Has anyone tried CSV importing using 3rd party software at all?

I made a tool to do backup/restore of outlook contacts, you can find it on http://buzzdev.net in the download section.
Here is the link of the download (you need to be registered):
http://buzzdev.net/component/option,com_remository/Itemid,109/func,fileinfo/id,215/
Here is the link of the screenshots and some info about the prog.:
http://buzzdev.net/component/option,com_simpleboard/Itemid,59/func,view/id,10234/catid,33/
I wasn't interested in appointments, so I didn't do any development on that, sorry.
Cheers,
.Fred
ps.: the layout of the csv file is well defined. I suggest you to do a backup of your wm2005 contacts, then edit the csv file produced and do a restore.
pps.: if you need more infos, don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks for the reply. Such a program was pretty much what i wanted. However, Im afraid to say that it doesnt actually support proper CSV. For starters, your file uses semi-colons. The CSV file im using is produced by GoogleMAil so its standard is beyond reproach. Still, it seems to work for backing up purposes. I suspect this is another slight variation from Microsoft again.

Sorry for that, maybe in a future version I will add a version where the delimiter could be chosen by the user.
Cheers,

Well i tried changing the delimeter to semi colon and it still complained that the file wasnt genuine. Is this an encoding isue do you think?
Actually i tried re-encoding the file but with no luck. Stupid microsoft. Of course an import function is needed! Grrrrr :x

i use qmail to read a nttp newsgroup i read. is there a setting the make the text smaller (i.e. date of post, username, subject, etc) so it can fit on the screen better. also can u change the message view into a tree so it's easier to follow the topics? if you can't, is there a better program for nttp newsgroups that can do the things i'm asking? i'm guessing no cuz it took me forever to find and figure out a program for nttp newsgroups.
thanks,
I wouldn't bother tbh.
If you go through your pocket web browser to the gmail site, theres a button at the bottom to make gmail faster.
It will download and install a Java applet for accessing gmail.

Sure there is. Tool / Options / List / Font / Size.
Also make sure you follow my articles; AFAIK, I've also shown this in the Mailer Bible, along with thousands of other tips. See http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=569&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1
I went to the font settings. there were two choices for fonts, tacoma and courier, only got down to 8. and the defualt is 9. so it doesn't make much of a difference
Thanks.
With all the numerous ROM’s being put out by the cooks, it’s a flashing haven. That being said, it’s also a huge hassle with trying out the various ROM’s to constantly have to reenter all the information i.e. contacts, email settings, proxy, camera, etc. Now I believe the sim card only stores 230 numbers…what if a person has more? What the easiest way to back up all the settings and quickly restore them once flashing to a new ROM?
I have a mail2web account that automatically synchronizes my contacts, calendar and to do lists for me. I've even cooked it into my personal ROM... the proxy settings, I've partially cooked but haven't taken the time to fix the mistakes that I did... the camera... well, there isn't many settings for the camera that I change, so I haven't bothered to change them. Any UC compatible ROM can be configured with a properly setup provxml file.

Active sync does all the work I do nothing . It stores all my contact info , calendar dates , notes , favorites in Microsoft Outlook. I am no big user of it but its the easiest way to be sure to have all my contact information.
I can also save the info in various ways from outlook to export anywhere I want to . But with no computer knowledge all you have to do is make sure all the check boxes are checked for the information you want and its done with no work on your part mate. If you need screen shots let me know and ill even make some ....
pimback up works like a dream and its usually on alot of the cooked roms. you dont need a computer because you can save the file on your memory card. its very fast to do backups and restores.

Most of the settings are stored in the registry.
Once located you export every registry value and create a CAB out of it.
After every hardreset/flashing you can run it automatically by UC ready ROMs or manually.
That's my way of hassle free flashing and testing, always have my settings automatically loaded after hardresets or newly flashed ROMs
My personal "All-in-one.cab" includes settings for
camera
ringtone
email-tone
SMS-tone
German hardware keyboard layout
hardware keyboard lighting
deactivate keyboard sliding sounds
backlight
power
start menu
GPRS
mail2web ActiveSync
bigger threaded SMS input space
many 3rd-party software-settings (Opera, S2U2, TotalCommander, pBar...)
etc.
It's a PITA job, very very time consuming espcially hunting for the reg values,
but in the end you will enjoy it every time you flash or hardreset.
HardSPL, UC and a All-in-one CAB is the perfect combination for our hobby.
Well, you asked for the easiest...this is not

Take care of your business first mate .. XDA will be here when you are ready ....
Has anyone found out how to change the address book listing so that it displays 'Firstname Lastname'? I'd be happy to be proved wrong/stupid but I can't find the setting anywhere nor is it mentioned in the manual.
I couldn't find a way of doing it on the phone, but its easy to change in Outlook contacts and resync.
In fact Outlook lets you sort by any number of variations including user defined views. I have all my clan sorted by Clanname, Firstname, Surname, and eveyone else sorted by Firstname, Surname.
when edit contact, scroll to the bottom for the "other" option, and you should be able to find it somewhere there.
or you can find a freeware called "contactfix" , just google it~
Do it from the contacts app rather than the phone app. Scroll down the options...
I used contactfix. worked well, though I had to run it again when i added more contacts.
I had the same problem but found this little app to solve it.
There is an easier way where as stated before on here
edit contact and go to the bottom and click on more
you'll see the old winmo contacts editor and you can change the way its displayed in the
File as: field
that contactfix does not work for me - I sync with google and then all the contacts are back to last name first name.

Hi All,
Is there any way of getting full html support for email on HD2?
Cheers
Uhm... could you detailt up a little bit?
there is 100% full support of html e-mails on HD2...
I think he means, that embedded pictures are not shown instantly. Thats not a lack or bug its just for your safety because some kind of malware is using this way to srew you up
Therefore you always have to click on "show blocked images" or whatever it says....
Well actually, I really like that feature since I would find it rather bad if my phone would start downloading lots and lots of kbytes with information on bulky newsletters...
I never tried this, but it could help: try setting up a larger value for the maximum download limit: thus you can allow larger e-mail to be completely downloaded automatically.
I admit I've never tried this, since I am actually fond of the default 2KB maximum limit!
Good luck!

You're wrong.
In the Message download limit combo box (drop down list), there are the following options:
- 2KB
- 5KB
- 20KKB
- 50KB
- All text, no pictures
- Headers only
- Entire message
Guess what happens when you select 'Entire message'...
If you use an Exchange accout, you'll have less options available. However, the 'Entire message' option is available, so no need to worry.
But if we got here, please keep in mind that Exchange 2003 doesn't offer HTML support across ActiveSync, with Windows Mobile (stupidity, I call it, for it works perfectly with iPhones!).
If you want HTML over ActiveSync, you should contact your server admin. and suggest him upgrading to Exchange 2007 (or even 2010 ).

You're so sarcastic that it is annoying. Every time I've come across you on these forums you have to attack in a VERY sarcastic way. STOP doing this.
You said, "I never tried this, but it could help: try setting up a larger value for the maximum download limit" Have you now tried "setting up a larger value for the maximum download limit" in order to try and help the OP, or did you decided that you'd rather just try bashing me.
"setting up a larger value for the maximum download limit" DOES NOT DOWNLOAD THE IMAGES.
Stop being so rude - these forums have a lot of long-standing and very friendly users. The best way to get on in here is to try and be the same.

Go to the Inbox of any accout -> click on the menu key (right soft) -> on the pop-up menu, select Tools>Options... -> choose an account to edit
Now, if you try to edit a GMail or Yahoo account (or probably any other account, except for the Exchange one), you can select Download Size Settings. You'll have the settings there.
For the Exchange account, when editing, click Next (on the Edit server settings screen), then Next again (on the User Info screen), then select E-mail, click the Settings button. You'll have there the 'Download size limit' option, just like in the other accout types.
Hope it helps!
This is a per account setting, the list in on the last page of the settings.
The same one where you decide if you want your mails in HTML or plain text format.
At leats that's where it is for IMAP and POP accounts (I don't have any hot mail account, and I don't sync my exchange accoubnt so I dont' know for these two)

how to view full (overview) email in one screen
Sometime we receive email in HTML format with some images, the email client does load them but can not view everything in one screen (if you know what I mean... it is like Opera to view full screen of a web page).
Is there anyway to tweak it to work this way? Rather than scroll to right and down. Afterall we can pinch to zoom in.
