What backup software to use before flashing ROm? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV Themes and Apps

hi guys
what backup software would you recommend to use before flashing to another rom ?
I mainly want to back up :
sms
contacts
email msgs and mailboxes
if it could save settings (like for email, mms, connection settings) that would be bonus
I have SPBbackup but it just freezes ...
thanks ....

I second that.
Works wonderfull and you can even schedule a time in the day that it automaticly makes a backup for you.
Also, besides all the stuff you mentioned, you can also make backups of directories you like most (for example you wallpapers)

I am using SPB Backup for full backup. If I upgrade my ROM, there is no option to selectively restore SMS or MMS and surely there is no option to restore call log.
PIM Backup works well, but it does not seem to have an icon in the Programs folder?

Use a free program called PIM backup. It will backup and restore all emails, txt, contacts, etc.
Or use the build in option 'Microsoft My Phone', but you need a live account for this (msn). Works great though!
You can also use apps such as SPB Backup.
SPB Backup will infact backup the entire system for you including everything you may have installed.
thanks !
loads of good suggestions.

Take a closer look at Sashimi. It´s a great script controlled tool to restore your settings and prefered applications automatically.
Don´t use a full backup with Backup Tools like SPB Backup or Sprite Backup in order to upgrade a ROM. You will get several issues with that way

thanks,
anyone else?
SASHIMI for me too, although I am new to it. Looking for things like how to enable to HTC Location services and tick the boxes for weather (including when roaming) so as I don't have to set it everytime after flashing.
So far it installs all my CABS and sets up the email stuff via XML
All I do is a few tweaks, and its sorted.

Backing up for Rom Upgrade

I know when I was using the myTOUCH 3g there was an option to backup all my files settings of that nature with nandroid, is there something similar? Or will it just wipe it all off and have to do all the settings n etc?
Just flashed the n spl for the TMOUS
If you are flashing a new rom then it will wipe everything out. Save you PIM data with PIMBackup or similar program, contacts and emails should be okay when you re sync. You will have to reload any programs as well you have put on.
Not sure you would want to save registry settings etc from one rom to another as they may not be applicable to the new rom and cause you more issues than you would want.

Ok thanks, another question, if installing a new rom wipes it how does PIM backup? Does it do it to the SDCard?

it saves the backup database to wherever you tell it to.
Save it among my documents and it will be synched via activesync.
Save it to SD and it will be ready to be restored after flash.
Pimbackup only saves PIM tho, that is contacts/calendar/sms/call records

Alright thanks, its been a while since i used an WinMO device thanks for all your help
SPB backup will save all your contacts, email accounts etc.
You can save it to the Storage Card.
After you install new ROM, install SPB backup and restore
your contacts and whatever else you saved with it.

[Q] Taking my sms from rom to rom?

Hey there,
is there any possibility to get my short messages from one custom rom to the other?
I love switching roms, and of course i alway make NAND Backups, but everytime I install a new rom, my SMS are gone, and i dont like it
It would be great if there was some kind of file, i need to copy, or restore or whatever to have them secured.
There are several options to do this...
I'm using SMS Backup & Restore: https://market.android.com/details?...mNvbS5yaXRlc2hzYWh1LlNNU0JhY2t1cFJlc3RvcmUiXQ
Another option is to extract your sms from the nandroid with AppExtractor:
https://market.android.com/details?...wxLDEsImNvbS5oYW5keWFuZHkuYXBwZXh0cmFjdG9yIl0
Another vote here for SMS Backup and Restore. It saves them as an XML file so you can copy them off to another device as well if you want. It's also pretty intelligent about restoring stuff from the backup, for example it can avoid restoring messages that are already on the phone, and you can restore individual conversations rather than the whole backup.
Thanks

Awesome guys, thanks for the fast help
and again i see, xda-community is the best
Always best One more u can use is Titanum Backup for almost all posibble backups
I always use Go SMS backup service, it's easy and fast, also you can use XML for backup that could be usable in other places.
I use mysms (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mysms.android.sms) This app stay in sync with cloud... And i can read and send message without my phone - from web!
Ne careful when you switch your sms between an ICS and a non-ICS rom, the data has not the same form.
Sent from France to the best forum ever using my awesome CM9 Motorola Defy
