I had a Universal until recently (too bulky, buggy, and Wizard is so much nicer!) so I now have the Wizard/O2 Xda Mini S.
On the Uni there was an icon on the Today page for changing orientation of the screen with 1-click. On the Wizard there is none, and I have to navigate through several menus in Settings to change it.
Any way to add the Universal's Today icon to the Wizard?
Or failing that, how can I add Start Menu shortcut to the 'Screen' option in Settings?
Check out phm tools keys. They have a screen rotation shortcut.
I think there are registry hacks to show the screen rotation UI icon though (WM2003 at least)

Thanks, would really like that reg hack if anyone can find it?
EDIT: I found this for the Universal but it has no effect on my Wizard:
To change the display of the screen rotation icon in the system tray
The setting is at 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\ROTATION'
The 'HideOrientationUI' DWORD value can be set to '1' to hide the icon or '0' to show the icon
For example, to hide the screen rotation icon
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\ROTATION\HideOrientationUI = 1

CRAP! I opened this thread for the sole purpose of making that exact smart-ass response. You suck.
:? Just to clarify for those of you who don't credit me with a milligram of intellect, I wish to orientate the screen when not using the keyboard. This is a feature of WM5 and the Universal allows you to do it from the home screen, but not the Wizard.
I have however solved it by using Spb PocketPlus

Anyway to do it without installing pocket plus ?
Why not hook it up to one of the hardware buttons ? If you're worried about running out of buttons, you can probably install one of the button managers?
I've got '<Rotate Screen>' (built-in option in Buttons) under the 'voice call' button, and Magic ScreenShot under the same button+hold (normally 'voice memo'); I highly doubt I'll use either of those voice functions, so they fit nicely there
I just added it to mort button, but its still a key press and then a tap of the screen, would much prefer a today icon just to be tapped.
Well, maybe time for a developer to step in and make a tiny application that rotates the screen
http://www.devx.com/wireless/Article/21590/1954?pf=true
and
http://www.pocketpcdn.com/articles/rotatese.html
have code examples, but no compiles (boo, hiss - why is that?)
ZeBoxx: I've done it, but PHM tools already contains very effective screen rotation icons. Find PHM Keys... assign to hardware key or shortcut or whatever. Use his or my VJTrayLaunch and stick it in the tray as well if you want... oh, mort script does this as well I think.

Well, there we go
And for more light-weight (are they, really? I have no idea);
270-degrees (for Wizard):
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=15527
90-degrees (exact opposite side :x):
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=15011
180-degrees:
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=15332
PHM Keys seems to have some other neat things that I might download it for, but personally I'm happy with just having <Rotate Screen> under the 1 button (no special button managers)
off-topic: is the PHM website ever going to be back?
I have pocket plus 3 installed, so i just added 'Rotate screen left' onto the close button context menu.
Now its just a click-hold and click away - even from within a program (comes in handy when using internet explorer).
I am using the smartkey program to hold the softkeys to enter startscreen.
Now I am looking for an option or a program to copy/paste and to put it under the message button.
Or does anybody knows a program that only gives the option to cut/copy/paste.
With this my phone would be perfectly tunned.

If the context menu of the program contains copy and paste, you can hold the center key of the 5-ways navigator to popup the context menu.
water
Hi Water,
Thanks, but not all programs have that option. That's why I like to have a program like that.
Right now i'm using Magicbutton but that doesn't have that function. GSMagic had it but I like Magicbutton better. So now I need the copy/past function.
You can try Xbar which is under the D-Pad. It opens up a screen in which you can select the running task but also shortcuts to programs of your liking and there are shortcuts ready for copy and paste and cut.

You can use PQz to map a hardware key (I use the Windows-key) to CTRL, so that you can use ctrl-c, ctrl-v etc.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33343&highlight=ctrl
I think... just speculating here.. that they are more looking for...
press button - it copies whatever is the active selection
press button again - it pastes whatever is on the clipboard
Not sure, though... ctrl+c / ctrl+v works with the SIP, with that tool it works with the hardware keyboard, and if you're working with the sip - and thus a stylus - you can often just tap-and-hold and choose copy from the context menu.
PHM Keys comes with cut copy paste.
Use a button mapper to do as ZeBoxx says, if it's what you need, and you'll have quick access to said functions.
V
Thanks,
I'm using PQZ now. With TAB as CTRL. WIN would not work together with smartkey, because hold button 1 is the same hex number as WIN.
But this program is realy good.
My Solution to this...
I have a slightly hacked up copy of PHM Keys (couldn't get it to install on my 8125, so I hacked it off of a WM2003 device) that I'm using to solve this problem.
In my Start Menu I have three icons - "Object Copy", "Object Cut", and "Object Paste" (PHM Keys) so whenever I have something highlighted I click my (smartskey modified) Start Menu soft button, scroll down a slot or three with the 5-way, and select the copy/cut/paste operation I need.
When the KB is open it's even quicker Start-o Start-b Start-j respectively. Another plus is this works in nearly EVERY situation where you can highlight something. Sometimes the other options (context menus, SIP kbds, etc.) don't work everywhere.
Now some may not want to waste three Start Menu slots, but I have Tray launch filled with my apps, still have 4 Start Menu slots available, and all my non-soft buttons are mapped to one app or another, so I'm cool with them.
Plus I have my SIP pop-up KB completely disabled (I hate it's "intrusiveness" and only use the HW KB in landscape mode) so in portrait mode I had *NO* way to copy/cut/paste and had to devise something.
Good Luck
-JMS
I've updated VJKeyPress to add -cut, -copy, -paste.
On my website.

I want to use my left softkey to cascade my wisbar start menu..I have tried the following registry settings HKCU\software\microsoft\today\keys\112
Name:start
String: "\program files\lakeridge\wisbar advance\wisbaradv2.exe" 2
I got the above link by going to start menu\programs\wisbar advance\casc start menu and checking its target...
Now when i click the left softkey it is executing only
"\program files\lakeridge\wisbar advance\wisbaradv2.exe"
rather than
"\program files\lakeridge\wisbar advance\wisbaradv2.exe" 2
which is for cascading start menu...
can somebody give me a solution for this...
Try this:
Create a shortcut to
"\program files\lakeridge\wisbar advance\wisbaradv2.exe" 2
and assign the shortcut to your left softkey.
Maybe you can place the shortcut anywhere, or maybe it has to be placed in \Windows\Startmenu.
Good luck.
done
I had done that before...but i had forgotton to reboot :? ..its working great now...Thanx anyways for the help...I have now mapped my leftsoftkey to the start menu and right softkey to file explorer...no need of smartskey!!
An even better solution (IMHO) is to use Water's Smartskey. Smartskey allows you to use left soft button press-and-hold to activate any 3rd party menu (even standard window menu). In this way you don't lose the original press function for the softkeys and can still easily open any cascading menu.
I use it to activate GsPocketMagic, a cascading menu.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41060
hmm..
Well smartskey is still in its developing stage..once water completes it without any bugs i will be the first one to use it..its a very gud app
I use the comm manager button on the left of my 8125.. I just went into buttons in settings, and chose "casc start menu" and it worked fine...I like having start menu access from that key because its natural for one hand operation.

I have been using it for several months now (and my version is behind at least one-two revisions), I have had absolutely no problems with it. It works as advertised.
There's no harm in trying it.
Hi there,
I have a big problem with my Softkeys on the X1. By default left and right softkeys are assigned to calendar and contacts... but this does not match with my interests
By changing "left softkey" to "Start Menu" in "buttons" (or "keys", don't know exactly, because I use a german firmware), it opens the start menu... so far so good, but: It always opens the start menu. No matter what a menu says. "Close" e.g. does not close the screen, it opens the start menu
Now I'm useing a tool (called "remap softkeys") and changed the right softkey to comm manager, which works pretty well. Unfortunately I don't know, which command opens the start menu.
My target configuration opens the Comm Manager with the right softkey and the start menu with the left softkey in the homescreen. All options in all other screens which are dedicated to the left and right softkey should be kept.
I hope you can help me
Action_Heinz
Ok here's the file you need. Unzip and Map the softkey with the prog you have to Startmenu.exe. I am using this as well. The EXE is NOT made by me, unfortunately I can't find the site where I downloaded it anymore... Anyway it's freeware. Enjoy.
Thanks
Works perfectly! This is exactly what i've been looking for.
Thank you very much
You could have a look at X1BC or my X1ButtonMapper. These programs give you a lot more options regarding button remapping and they are small and for free.
ASUS P835 can use "X" to stop program ,but buy HD mini and try install "HTC task manager v2.1 " or other "task manager cab ", cannot show "X" in top task bar ,why?
please help me !!!
* buying & using in Hong Kong .
thank you
yep, me too.
I'm used to close program tapping 'x' button in elfin. Now, mini hasn't 'x' and it's not comfortable to manage program that i'm running. everytime run task manager and close it.
there some1 know how to restore 'x' function in mini pls.,,,,
missing x
Install the Advanced_Configuration_Tool_v3.3, this contains a tweak that enables taskmanager to exit progs automaticly to save memory.
Works great for me.

Which setting (in advanced config. tool) does that?
missing x
- htc task manager -> auto kill
maybe use arkswicht.
What I do if I want to see the X button?
I think it correct with a change in registry.
I also installed a task manager program that controled from X button position, but it does not work.
I have a serious problem with it.
Hi all,
I had same behaviour, and usually use the x button. But in HD mini all this things changed and I has been disapointed for a while, but...
For office and other applications, you use the back <- hardware key instaed of "x" ou "ok" button. The only difference is that the application is not taken away of memory, it remains minimized.
If you want close one or more apps, knowing the fact you have a lot more RAM than on Diamond for example and you do not have to close every time the applications, you can yuse the integrated Task Manager tapping on top bar and then Task Manager button.
I found a solution to bring back the missing X button
With a registry editor got to HKLM->Software->Microsoft->Shell->BubbleTiles and set HardwareDoneKeyEnabled to 0 and HardwareStartKeyEnabled to 0. You will have
the X/Ok button back but also the win key on the bottom left will be back too. If you won't enable the winkey, the softkeys won't be centered and it looks ugly.
Also set TextModeEnabled to 0 in order to have icons instead of text in softkeys. The hardware buttons work normally like before. Hope i helped
Thanks, I've done that but doesn't seem to work. When I press X it minimizes the program instead of closing it. I check the task manager and is still running
this is standard for x, "x" never exit programs for real, was just a new function later on TD or newer to close programs with the x button....so I think "exit programs by pressing x" is another regkey you need to enable, without this, it´s standard "x" function, and that was always "minimize"
Thanks for the explanation
No there is no reg key to change the function of the X key. The only way to change the function of the X key (to really close apps instead of minimise them) is via a program such as xtask, wktask, ameba ect. In these programs there is an option to make X button close apps. Ameba is the most simple app to use. Just search for it
Doesn't the "end call"-button exit apps on the mini?
unfortunately no...
did anyone notice when you go phone. the icon is like mess up.. how to solve

No problem here with any of the icons I can see. Which one did you mean?
whn u put the "phone" button. you can see that there is one keypad button at the centre, then on the left and right.. there seem to be 2 icon. being overlap..
No overlap here; I do see the text of 'people' slightly cut off due to the narrower button next to the Start button
