Hi.
I would appreciate it if some one could make a bluetooth hack that can make G1 share files between mobile phones i am even willing to pay for it.
It is very annoying that i can't share stuff between friends.
If it is impossible then please let me know.
Thanks.
It will be part of the upcoming update, so doubt anyone is going to try and write software to do it.

Hell, just having all the BT functionality of almost any phone on the market would be great!
My Motorola BT earphones are getting dusty and it makes me sad
I messed with the cupcake add to the sdk emulator and I didn't see any changes to BT......

I had tried the cupcake not the JF but the 1.5 firmware cupcake i had got from somewhere on my G1 still dint find any video recording and bluetooth functionality also it had no telephony stuff but the browser had touch keypad + no multi touch, no auto-rotate...
just it has touch keypad improvement if this is what they have made still now they have to work a lot n it would delay the cupcake update...

Well the so called cupcake Update with the features u r on about has not been released yet so the only question to be asked is "why would u install some thing u don't know where came from"?
But most likely it's proberly just a minor update from cupcake and has nothing to do with the one every one is talking about "i doubt u would be the only one to have the real update".
And what goes for the touchpad is proberly just one of the many apps from the market with touchpad funktion.
But then again i could be wrong.
i have actually given up on google/T-mob ever releasing cupcake- i am now relying on independant developers to enhance this phone. too many rumours and too many disappointments..... same with paid apps from the market....
Without A2DP it will never be my one and only phone- i use A2DP in the gym and hate wired headphones..... until then my trinity will not be retired.....

For what it's worth, google delivered on their cupcake promise. They said they would merge their internal development branch into the public git by mid-January. They actually did it at the end of December. That's pretty good if you ask me.
The whole "t-mobile will release a cupcake update" thing is just rumor and speculation.
As to the paid apps in the market, I'm confident it will be coming out soon, possibly very soon, for better or for worse.
I wouldn't expect anything from the cupcake branch for a few months at least (although that's purely speculation on my part )

A2DP is my biggest issue. I listen to music while I work. replaced my 2 year old phone that had A2DP capability for the G1 not knowing it didn't support this. Don't get me wrong I LOVE this phone and with my new extended battery this thing does it all....well everything but my beautiful music while I work....Sobs!

Where did the speculation that cupcake would be released Q1 2009 come from? Did someone make this up?
Q1 is what google has been saying or rather the developers that work at google have been saying. Q1 would be sometime from Jan 1 - March 31.

I have a perfectly good keyboard on my G1.
I would say video recording and stereo bluetooth are 'needed' before an onscreen keyboard..

@nolageek, the hardware keyboard i really great and beats all kinds of software keyboards for long texting, but sometimes a on-screen keyboard could be much more practical. I hate it to open the keyboard to enter 2 or 3 letters!

Woot!
finally the update we've been looking for !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wonder how behind the UK update will be! lol
Sounds good though! Can't wait.
The magic gets released by vodafone in the UK in April, so if there isn't a release for the G1 by then someone will be able to make one since all the regional changes will have been made.
cupcake coming in avril huh? how about me coming in avril.
haha back to the point....i agree with MoridinBG, too much effort to open keyboard just to type a few letters. shows how lazy we are haha
Exactly how will this work if Im an AT&T Customer? Will google send the OTA Update to my phone??? I've always kind of wondered about that.
I have an ADP
Ehh, your provider does not matter..
i'm using a german blau.de karte (eplus, not t-mobile) and i've got the OTA update!
but the cupcake from t-mobile won't be send to yours, cuz it's an ADP phone! u will have to wait for a new adp firmware i think..
T-Mobile confirmed that it will release its firmware “Cupcake” update

Is it possible to set-up proxy for wifi? at school we are using proxy to use the internet. i'm not a iphone fan but its really easy on the iphone and would like to know if it was possible with hero/android
if this is not possible will it come later to android?
Check this out:
http://code.google.com/p/proxysetting/
It appears to be an app that will do it for you. It might be on the market too, I haven't checked. Just did a quick google search and it was the first thing that came up.
Why isnt it build in? Will it be build in with later releases of android?
I will look at the link maybe i will find something great
That should do the trick, that is exactly what I'm searching for!!
I'll test it at work tomorrow and let you know if it worked, I allready set the proxy, really simple prog to work with. I REALLY hope it works.
Hmm, the programme doesnt do anything. Still cant connect to the internet. Anybody got other suggestions..?

Your phone may need to be rooted for this to work... that's just a shot in the dark. As soon as I get my Hero (yeah, I'm trolling the forums before Telus even has them in stock) that's the first thing I'm gonna do, but some people are more cautious, so it's up to you if you wanna bother rooting your phone on the off chance that it'll get the app I linked to work.
EDIT: My bad, if you check the "issues" page on the site, you'll see that it hasn't been updated to work on cupcake. :/

It's hard to say. I found this "complete" list of donut features:
http://www.betanews.com/article/Android-Donut-SDK-released-Whats-new-inside/1253057624
I wouldn't be surprised if the inclusion of full VPN support also brought proxy settings with it, but it's hard to say.
Thnx for the article, its great.
Is the new version (donut) already released? Or when will that be?
Oh yeah, how will Hero users be able to work with the new version of android?
Because we got htc 'sense' above android, so I guess HTC also has to release a new version of the 'sense'??

Yes, donut was released on September 15th, but there are no phones that come with 1.6 on them. The CLIQ is supposed to be the first one, I think. Cupcake applications are expected to run on Donut, so I see no reason why a Hero update (both official and non-official) wouldn't be too far down the road.
I don't have a Hero yet, but I've been running Android on my Vogue for over a year now, and last week I actually ran a Donut build. It's very nice, although the vogue build is missing a lot of apps, like GMail, and contacts don't sync, so it's not really feasible for us to use until more development is done on it.
donut wasn't released but the SDK. with SDK can developers edit(if its needed) their programs to make it work in donut or just test it before the donut comes out. htc will make there sensui work in donut because it would be there shell for android and wanna us it with new htc android phones. but if it comes to hero i don't know i hope so or i will feel like i left behind.
sensui is nice but i think it slows down the phone but thats what i think. i would prefer the speed above sensui.

Yes and no... the SDK is what was officially released on the 15th yes, but google has been adding donut into the android source tree for a while now. The SDK includes a donut system image to run in the emulator, and which can also run on phones (as this is what I've run on my vogue) but of course is missing several google apps. The market and youtube are included though. The source for donut is all in the git tree along with cupcake and... 1.0, whatever its codename is. It's just up to phone manufacturers to take the source and build specific images for their devices at this point, although I'm sure google still has updates to add to it as well.
Lucky Nexus One bustards
As owners for X10, are we eligible for this update??
-----------------------------
Google is also celebrating today - Android 2.2 Froyo has reached two important milestones. Google open sourced the latest version and they are pushing out the final Froyo update to Nexus One users. And we're sure the timing has nothing to do with the launch of the iPhone 4.
Sure, Froyo has been available to Nexus One users for a while (mostly on dev phones and through manual updates), but this seems to be the final, official version of Android 2.2. You could manually download the update from here (it works only if you're running FRF50 firmware), though if you don't know what you're doing, you should wait for the OTA update.
Your Nexus One should automatically check for updates or you could force a check (go to Settings -> About phone -> System updates), so one way or another you should be getting a notification that a new version is available and download it Over-the-Air.
Some people are reporting that the update is not available for them yet, so it might not work right away - rolling out updates is a gradual process and it varies by location too.
The other important milestone for Android 2.2 Froyo is that Google open-sourced the code to their partners and manufacturers and everyone else too. This means that they can start working on Froyo firmwares for the non-Google phones.
------------------------------------------
Can we have official feedback from SE guys?

The way I see it with Android devices is that you buy the hardware and then hack the software to hell and back. Just didn't count on the X10 being so hard to mod when I got it, guess I'm too used to HTC phones.

Thought as much. From the posts on other threads it seems as though posters think root and ROM will appear simultaneously.
I can imagine that the first ROMs we'll get our hands on will have all sorts of bugs, and we'll have to compromise on things like WiFi, Bluetooth e.t.c. Maybe due to lack of drivers available.
I'm going on past experience from The G1 and old WinMo devices.
Oh well.......
Remember to be realistic, guys. The devs can't just copy and paste Froyo onto our X10s without a hitch. It will take some time. I'm not even anticipating a stable version of Froyo on the X10 because it is a huge task.
What I'd like to see is the latest FW but stripped down with no branding or operator software (and no Moxier crap!!!). And if it's possible, for Flash to be released on the X10. That may not be feasible but I certainly hope it's available. SE takes forever!!

Already hoping and praying to Gods which I don't even worship! LOL
I came from using G1 but now bricked due to deathspl... and actually waited for this phone to come. Ran into several problems I picked up on over the months since launch..
Bluetooth seems to be configured depending on headset. For example, using my motorola s9 hd works perfect.. but my jawbone only picks up calls no media support. Where as on G1 it will have full support.. I have another stereo bluetooth but only plays media and no phone support.
Majority of the time I download from youtube.. tubedroid favorite. But I found the hardware plays downloaded videos off sync.. the visual plays then sound comes on half sec or so later. I tested this on other youtube apps and found similar results. Yxplayer seems to play the videos correctly however.
One thing I notice is multi touch seems to support no more than 2 spots.. zoom on browser works but I noticed problems when playing megaman zero on gameboid. Cannot charge shot/jump/dash at same time. I already informed the dev but they say its the hardware..
My 2 questions are. Will future custom roms. Be able to fix these problems. And if so, will I be flamed for posting this in the android development section?
I have had my g1 from before it offically came out and man this phone is 20x better then the g1. Do u know how buggy the g1 was when it first came out especially with the bluetooth. I have no problems using icon bluetooth headset or my moto h690

Most of the problems you list, multi touch and bluetooth, could have probably been improved by developers and included into the rom you used. As for tubedroid, if it is an app that doesn't have anymore updates, it's likely that the application was made for use on a G1 and the development was stopped, so of course it would be perfectly compatible for the G1. You have to take in consideration that the G1 has a big group of developers improving it where the slide was released just a bit over a month ago.
Ok lemmie give you a low down :l have you noticed android has been shipping out new phones like its a christmas sale well they dont have time to fix all the kinks so they fix what they seem like is what most people would use and update the frameware later to fix the other problems. And many slide roms improve on the MTS

You're an idiot, Android is the product of the Android Open Source Project. They do not make the phones. Legally any manufacturer can ship an Android non-Google branded device without Google's consent (albeit, lack of gapps).
Froyo, as every Android release, is coming with updated Bluetooth drivers and will fix many bugs found in Eclair and Donut. Gingerbread most likely will as well.

I came in late with the G1 so i was able to pick up on roms that fixed much of the problems. I remember I flashed a rom and was upset the bluetooth wasn't working properly. Stupid me didn't realize the rom was still in beta. I just find it so weird all 3 of my bluetooths have different support for this phone.

I understand this, i just thought it was a good time to point out these flaws for devs to be aware of.... i contacted sirius via email and they told me they'd get on to fixing it... i have no idea if it was automated or something.

seriously though, our taste in women must differ greatly. Marilyn had a nice shapely butt, imo.
I guess I have a thing for the old school women. Anyways... when we get an update for the MTS... the kernel can be hacked and the CPU can be amped up more like it should be. My old G1 is dead even in linpack scores at 3.5 MF with my MTS running slide Mr1 v4. I'm sure the froyo beta would put it ahead at around 4.5-6 MF. I heard of some folks getting like 7-8mf but I'm not sure if I believe that...

I tried the old libdvm.so file but just bootloops, lol! That's what's making froyo so damn fast. Plus, built in a2sd isn't working on froyo yet nor camera/camcorder right? I really need stability and the froyo tease won't do anything but make me angry, lol! I know folks are saying it's stable for everyday use but I don't know...

Yeah, the camera drivers definatly are perfected yet. I tried it last night and wow its fast! Even with lwp running with all my widgets. Yep, its twice as fast as slidemr1 v4.... the only bummer is that I couldn't get a2sd to work. I formatted the whole SD to fat32 and still nothing. No partitions either. I guess I could play with it more... flashed back last night because I ran out of time. I might just wait a bit longer for a more stable Rom. But it was fun for sure...
Roman I was talkin about android phones and you don't have to critisize every person in here dude.

I would say if you are here then you most likely bypassed your home network's settings, and have something custom installed at this point.
Whenever I meet someone using a 1.6 version, I ask to meet them later, and at the very least update them to 2.1.
Though now I am going to be recommending Z's 2.2 rom as it is mostly complete , and it is stable.
Though I am excited as to what our devs here are going to be doing with the 2.3 kernal
Why should i change ? And to which? They only good reason to switch a phone would be a better camera, HMDI out or 3D or Games! cuz Ardeno 200 realy is lame ^^
A Dual core Phone would be nice, But i'm not sure how good its gonn be used, by 2 or 3 games... or in mutli tasking ( and 3D Foto /Video).
I'll hope my X10 will last until i can get a Quad core phone
Oh, there might be ONE other reason to get a new phone! INFRARED! Can't you imagine how comfortable it would be, to come home, start Radio with your phone, change clothes, sit on the couch, and just press one button on your phone and radio mutes, TV put to on, switch to favortie channel.
And it would work on most radios/TV's/whatever! not like Wireless remote just on some brand new machines!
I had infrared command working on my ooold P910i

I thought gingerbread uses multiple core effectively or I'm confusing it with Honycomb?
I had a remote control app that used infrared on P910 also but I rarely used it.
The thing I miss most is voice dialing which a lot better on P910 and P990 although it was using tagging but dammit worked at least(direct and with bluetooth devices), now no matter whatever say x10 it show me four number start with 9999
yeah i really miss infrared on the new phones..android and infrared would make an unbeatable duo! used ir remote on p900, 910
Can't wait to install the official 2.3, congratz to devs
the only problem is that in most cases IR built in the phones is not the same frequency in the remote of your tv.tried at least 20 phones in the past years only p910 seemed to work fine.but it would be nice though then I can dump all of my 7 remotes at home
My 003SH has infrared
Does the x10 get the update to 2.3 through SEUS for AT&T?? this I would be surprised about.......and if not wont the Devs just port it over for anyone to use?

No, AT&T and most of the branded X10's will not get the official update. However, all you need to do is unbrand your AT&T X10a to global generic and you will be certain to get the official 2.3.3 Gingerbread update directly from PC Companion or SEUS when available.
If you haven't already unbranded to global generic and updated to 2.1, here's a step by step guide....

My old nokia from way back had ir.
I used to transfer wav files from my comp to it. Lol.
Ah the good ol days. Lol.
When you could drop your phone and not even sweat it.
I can't wait to see how the camera works on 2.3.3.
I know a bunch of services will be disabled.

I had infared in my old SE mobiles, like T-300,t-610,W300a. That,I believe is old school. Bluetooth wouls be a better solution to use the mobile as tv remote,or a remote in general.

I don't think so. They are not sure if we'll get a standard android camera interface but I don't think we'll get the stupid ugly standard interface.
