Hello,
actually I´m trying to install all programs and data which may be helpful for me on my new Vodafone compact s.
But very fast I run into data memory limitations.
I´m using a SD card and the installers give me the choice to install the programs either in the device or in the storage card.
What is your advice:
which type of programs or data should be stored inside the device or on the storage card (compatibility of programs with operation from SD card..., any differences in access speed..., what happens when I change the SD card and the installed programs are missing ...)???
Cheers, Gerd
Almost all my programs are running from my 4GB SD, no problems so far….
But what I do have on main memory (because they’ll slow down the device otherwise) are
1.Resco Explorer
2.Photo Contacts Pro
3.PocketPlus
4.PocketBreeze
5.TCMP
Hope this’ll help
All the programs that I use on my Today, I used to put on my device memory. The rest on the SD. Be sure you read the programs, they used to tell us where is the place to save it.
Hello and Thank You for your answers!
The actual state of my investigations is also that almost programs can be installed on the SD card.
One exception: the .NET 2.0 from Micro$oft, which I need for WifiFoFum doesn´t run from the card
Cheers, Gerd
I installed NET framework 2.0 on my SD card, no problems there.
no matter where you instal cf .net it goes to main memory like voice command. safe bet is today plug in's in main everything storage, because crucial updates won't really let you choose. it just appears that way.
Problem: Voice Files for TomTom Nav. 5 on SD
With the voice files for TomTom Navigator 5 I had a problem with installing on SD card:
I installed all (program, maps etc.) on SD card and it worked well, beside that it was not possible to select the stored voices. After installing the voice files in internal memory (doing this, TomTom insisted, that the files allready are installed ...) the voices could be selected in the settings menue of TomTom.
Cheers, Gerd
P.S.: with the largest map (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland and Czechia, more than 400MB) TT needs about 1 minute tu start up.
Just got my new white Trinity w/ GPS & Tom Tom. When I try to install it, I get a low memory error and install aborts. I have 41Mb storage and 21Mb program mem free.
Anyone else have trouble? Can it be installed to card?
It can be installed to the card, yes, but I never had that problem, altough I have installed TomTom many times.
I got a lot of problems but not this one !
Is this the HTC version that is downloaded on their web site ?
CD that was in the box. They have a cab file to dnload?
Tomtom refused to install on SD
I had the same problem - and the option "install into default installation folder" was checked and grayed out, so I could not tell Tomtom to install onto SD.
I backuped my Trinity, cleared the internal storage, connected to Activesync as "Guest", installed Tomtom to the internal storage, then moved the folder \Program Files\Navigator to a folder \Program Files\Navigator I created on my SD card.
After that, I restored my device. All I had to do after that was to manually add a shortcut to the Tomtom application in my Start Menu folder.
This worked for me.
Cheers Stefan
(I installed Tomtom from CAB available on the European HTC web site: http://www.europe.htc.com/support/software/htcp3600.html)
No cab file there. It is a exe that loads via Activesync. I get the same low mem error as with the CD. I have 62 Mb free. This is rediculous.
Gave up. The installer creates a temp cab in
program files/activesync/HTC apps
If you can't find it, search the C drive for *.cab and sort by date.
Copy that file while the installer is still open. Run it from the storage card. Worked fine.
Hi people,
Since I started to use my HTC X7500, I have TomTom Navigator 6, including all the needed stuff like maps and voices installed on the MicroDrive.
No problems there, but I now wanted to move the entire TomTom Navigator 6 from the MicroDrive to a 4GH MiniSDHC card.
I moved everything and TomTom starts and works, except for the voices. There are no voices!! The "VOICES" folder which was previously in the root of the MicroDrive, now is in the root of the MiniSDHC card, as it should.
Yet TomTom won't find any of the voices, so I can't access/use them.
When I place a copy of the "VOICES" folder to the MicroDrive again, TomTom WILL find the voices and can use them.
Now the question is, how can I get TomTom to use the voices from the "VOICES" folder on the MiniSDHC?
It obviously keeps looking for them on the MicroDrive.
I already uninstalled TomTom with removing all remaining .cfg and .ini files I could find, but after reinstalling the situation still was the same.
Thanks for the tips!!
try:
just copy data05 (for english) these two files. put them in the same foder where u have navigator.exe.
Thanks for the tip.
But what if I want to keep the entire (50MB or so) "VOICES" folder?
There should be a way to have TomTom forget about the MicroDrive and to use the Storage Card?
i believe u need registry editing.

Put them on the SD card, and delete the ini file in the voices folder before starting tomtom.

Unfortunately that didn't work..... still no voices when I try that.
The strange thing is that a new "voices" folder containing the "collected.ini" file appears on the MicroDrive when I've started TomTom.
I guess it @#@$! keeps looking on the MicroDrive.
More tips?
I'm using an ETEN X500, but I think the answer may be the same.
The collected.ini file, together with whichever DATA*.CHK file you choose, is by default placed on Main memory - in my case \Program Files\Navigator\voices
If you delete the collected.ini file, you can choose a new voice (the 50Mb file for which can be on your card) but TomTom will again by default store the new collected.ini + *.CHK files on Main Memory.
I've never found a way to change this behaviour, but the "voices" folder on Main Memory is about 650kb, so I live with it.
Ok, but why is it possible to use the voices folder on the MicroDrive then??
That was my situation at first. Since I figured everything works faster when stored on the Storage Card, I decided to move everything.
The thing is that TomTom works, but that the voices are the only thing he keeps looking for on the MicroDrive....
Even after the official WM6 ROM upgrade, the voices will only work when the folder is present on the MicroDrive.
Come on, there must be a way...... or not?
I think you should search for any folder names "voices" (usually in \Microdrive\voices, \storage card\voices, \program files\navigator\voices). Remove all of them, only keep the one you want to use (i.e. on the SD card). also make sure there is no "collected.ini" file left. This file will be re-creteated at the next Tomtom startup.
I believe Tomtom looks in the root folder of all memory devices (main memory, microdrive, sd card, etc.) for a folder called "voices".
Anyway, it does work for me (I have moved all tomtom stuff from the microdrive on the SD card too and it works).
S.
Why not try a regular (non-Athena specific) install (like 6.030 from TT direct, or 6.032 from the Kaiser)?

Thanks for the tip.
Tried that, ending up with the "voices" folder without collected.ini only in the root of the Storage Card.
I even deleted the navigator.cfg file from program files\navigator\ and guess what..... it didn't work!!
While running TomTom there are no voices available and when I close it again, a voices folder containing collected.ini have been created in the root of the MicroDrive and in program files\navigator again......
Then where on earth does it get its instructions from to look on the MicroDrive?? Need to kill that!!
Waht version of Tomtom are you using? I have 6.030.

6.00. Is it a version issue?
Might be, my "old" version 6.xxx (before 6.030) couldn't event find the maps when they were elsewhere than \My documents (which caused some problems as the maps are often >150 MB). You should try to upgrade to 6.030 (besides they say that the internal GPS is managed better after tghe upgrade even though I didn't notice any improvement on this topic).
I had a similar problem, it didnt matter how many files i deleted or even uninstalled, it still couldnt find my post codes or voices, but after I did the upgrade to wm6, I then reinstalled tomtom direct to sd card, and now the voices are working again, I wonder if there is a hidden file somewhere that needs to be deleted.
SOLVED!!
Well folks,
I got my hands on the latest TomTom Navigator 6.03 and the problem has been solved. I uninstalled Navigator 6.00, moved the entire "voices" folder to the Storage Card and then installed 6.03. Works a charm!! The voices are useable on the Storage Card now.
It seems to be a real "6.00 problem", since a lot of people I know have had the same problem, as well on the HP iPAQ hx4700, which has both a SD and CF slot.
Another great thing in 6.03 is the new "Internal GPS" GPS selection feature. Just select "Internal GPS" as your GPS device and the fix and accuracy is better than ever. No trouble like COM-port or baudrate, just the setting.
Happy now!!
hi everyone!
i'm havin some problems with installint tomtom on my trinity. i downloaded the trial verison from tomtom, where you can choose one free map from a city and use it. when i start the .exe from the pc it just starts installing tomtom on my device and my device won't even ask me where i want to install it. then when the install is almost complete the installer tells me that my memory is critically low and the installation fails. no matter how many programs i have running in the background or if i close everything else or deinstall everything, it doesn't want to install iteself. i've alrdy looked through the forums here but i couldn't find a solution to the problem. is there anyone who could help me plz?
The memory problem warning is about storage memory and nor program memory.
The installation pack is copied to internal memory and it's also installed in internal memory. So, for the installation to succeed, you must have at least the double of installation package free.
One can also extract the needed cab and run it from memory card. As for this I can't remember how to do it but has something to do with the temporary extracted files by the installer.
thx very much! i'll clear the storage space as soon as i have time and i'll try it out.
Hi,
While using internet explorer on my HTC P3300, message appears that I am running out of storage memory. I am trying to find junk files or unused files, but without success. Is there any application for cleaning storage memory, or I have to do it manually. The problem is I can't find where the files are stored.
Thanks
hello,I think your solution would be a hard reset, although you will lose many unwanted.
you can save on SD card and reinstall all lose.but I got that maybe?
you have deleted browshing history?from IE Tools
