Many times I get an error message which telle me there was a sync-error and I have to re-sync (delete-reload) my device.
this is frustrating cos all my quiick-Contacts are lost and I have to setup the Outlook folder sync again all the time.
ANyone experiencing the same ?

server re-sync
Hi
We had the same in our cie with the central exchange server and it was happening for all mobile users.
Our central team did something on the exchange server but I don't know what, but for sure it's coming from exchange because it was solved centrally.
If you manage you exchange server I can find out what was done exactly by our support team.

same happens to me with normal outlook (no exchange)
is there any fix?

actice synck error
me as well, i have no exchange server and i face this problem every other day.
hope to find a solution for this...

One solution is to keep your Windows XP/Vista always updated, with the latest sercurity patches.

no, my vista is always up to date.
That's not the solution

I had problems with AS any time ago, and disabling Tasks syncing solved problem....

ok, I'll un-check TASK sync and see if it helps.
You run a different ROM though. Maybe it's ROM related.
I'll keep ya posted

Hi, am Santo, you mast going to controlpanell, sistem, hardware, device manager, end go to portable device, and uninstall windows mobil with-the cable mini usb to device, when is finisch uninstal end reinstall the cable mini usb to device, then gest a moment to install the driver. install activesync when is necessari. ex for the write. Ciao alla prossima spero di esserti stato utile. Venite a trovarci su: http://www.batista70phone.net

whatwhat??
ok my friend, I understand that you want me to de/install the ActivSync Program? I use VISTA, I havn't installed activesync at all. It was build in, I suppose.
Well, the tip with deactivating TASK-sync helps for now

So far, so good...
Okay, so I did not read everyone's response here, because I have been staring at forums for days to try and find the answer to this very same question and I am starting to go cross-eyed. I found two things that have worked for me, one is guaranteed and the other has worked thus far...will update if it fails.
First, and I read this on another forum and got this answer directly from HTC's customer service. It is not the ideal solution, but it does work guaranteed. If you go into your settings for the sync program on your phone, or on the computer, and tell it to "NOT" sync your desktop email this problem will disappear. Now, what I did last time was change that setting so I could back up everything else and not lose any appointments and phone numbers I put in, then I went back and reversed it so that I could get my desktop email on my phone too. This is something I like to have so it is not ideal, having to do this every few days or so is a pain.
The second solution is one I stumbled upon. I went into the settings for syncing and changed it from, if conflict change on my device - to if conflict change on my computer. The problem, I believe is when there is a change on the desktop email everything gets all screwy. So I did that and haven't had the problem since then. I should note however, that I am not keeping the phone plugged in for long periods of time. I do one of two things, either I plug it in and let it sync then disconnect usb connections allowed (this lets my phone charge but doesn't let it sync repeatedly) or I just unplug after it has synched up.
I don't know if this will work for everyone, but I hope it helps. Good luck and God bless!

O2 Exec and Activesync 4

Just about to open Windows (on the top floor) and throw this thing through it!
Been waiting for months to upgrade to exec from xda2s, and 18hours after opening the box i'm ready to junk it. Cannot get it to sync at all. Read all the forums, zone alarm off, norton off, tried running as4.1, and still i'm getting dizzy watching this little green wheel going round and round and round and round and round..... 'connecting'
Does anybody have a work around or managed to get it to work. Without this facility the units useless to me, apart from maybe a quick £300 quick profit on ebay.
Help please.
I had a simlar problem, until I reluctantly ditched all my other Active sync partnerships (like my xda2 PPc partnership). then created a new partnership and it worked fine.
Good luck
Hi, Stupid question, but where do the older profiles live on my pc? I've looked in the activesync folder but no clues.
Open Avtivesync, go to file, click on mobile device, check and see what devices you have listed. then go to Delete mobile device.
This realy was a quick fix for me , you should be able to have multiple patnerships, perhaps some one else could suggest a better solution.
Thanks for your advice, but it looks as though I had deleted all previous profiles when I did a clean install of as4.1, and still getting dizzy!
Thought about calling O2, but quickly realised I would have better luck just ringing a random number out of the phone book.
I've tried every combination in the connection settings box, still no joy.
Need a solution soon before I reach for the Scotch and Razor Blades.
I've completely given up with this thing. Managed to get it back in the box (which was a minor challenge compared to getting Activesync to work), somebody please save me from ebay.
Do you have you Exec running in Corporate mode? I found that in this mode it won't sync; you just get "Connecting"...and nothing.
I switch to basic or personal and it syncs with no problem. Myabe this will help.
If the machine you are trying to sync with is connecting to an Exchange Server then you will have difficulties.
Try syncing the calendar, contacts and tasks direct with the exchange server and do the rest (notes etc) with the laptop.
Activesync 4 is so rubbish I have resorted to wirelessly syncing direct to my exchange server.
For a while I was cursing the Exec as I had just got my 2s just how I wanted it when I up(?)graded but I remembered that half the fun of these things is solving the problems, even if it doesn't seem like it at the time!
The main thing that you need to remember with ActiveSync 4.x is that you must install this before connecting your EXEC.
If you don't the microsoft driver gets installed instead (and in my case) no amount of deleting/reinstalling was able to recover the situation.
Whilst I was in the middle of that crisis I did some basic PD to try and rectify. Including
a) Installing AS 4.1 build 4807 on another system (preferably clean installed say XP SP2)
b) trying another cable
c) Doing a hard reset of your device and then repeating above steps
d) (obviously!) removing all previous versions of ActiveSync (also afterwards using regedit to remove any final traces and erasing C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync) and then re-installing
I have tried to include some Device Manager pictures of a working system for reference purposes
Throught trial, and very much swearing at the walls, I've discovered the following:
1. If I have the XDA Exec switched on and connect the USB cable, then I can guarantee a 95% failure to connect.
2. If I turn off the Exec, by the power-switch on side, then connect the USB cable and just leave ActiveSync to power everything up, then I have a 95% success connection rate.
On very odd occasions, I've had to disconnect the Exec, turn it off, then plug the USB in again. And once I restarted the workstation first - probably didn't have to, but was going for a coffee anyway.
AGHHH
I had a failure with Active Sync and established that it still worked with my 2 C500's so I phoned orange.
Eventually made my way to level 3 (highest) tech support to be told that its microsofts problem and that they have withdrawn Active Sync 4 until they can fix it.
I can connect to my M5000, move files via explore but as for the necessity of syncing itand my contacts..............forget it

Interaction with Outlook
My sync problems went away when I configured Zonealarm to allow it to connect.
I also had to install Outlook, which I don't like as I use Thunderbird for Email. Sync would still not work untill I allowed Outlook to be the default email client. However, I have not defined any accounts on Outlook and Thunderbird does not seem to mind.

Solution for Activesync crash/freezing Wizard after re-Sync!

Hi. This has worked for me, and solved a massive problem. Hope it helps someone else too.
Step 1:
Ensure you are trying to fix the same problem as I was by looking at the symptoms, which were:
- HTC Wizard synchronizes OK when you plug it in the first time
- It stays in sync if you leave it plugged in
- If you unplug it and then plug it back in at any time later, XDA goes s-l-o-o-o-w and then freezes and will NOT re-sync
- If you unplug it and soft reset before reconnecting then it's fine
Essentially, the Wizard was requiring a soft reset between every connection to the USB cable, or it would crash and require a reset anyway!
These issues have been discussed in about 10 threads on this board, and on pretty much every other resource for Wizards and Pocket PC devices on the net. I was, however, totally unable to find something like this which directly addressed the problem.
Step 2:
Download a program called Dr. TCP from here: http://www.dslreports.com/drtcp
Run it to open a dialog box with loads of fields with strange techy names... no, i didn't understand it either. However, I've been searching the net for days and I found an article here: http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/index.php/id;504222574;fp;2;fpid;1277378924 which told me how to work the numbers out...
In the bottom drop-down box, select "Windows Mobile-based Device" and enter 1492 in the box next to that. That's your maximum "MTU".
Here are the settings which work for me (from the top). If i don't mention a setting, I didn't change it!
Tcp Recieve Window: 261360
Dial Up (RAS) MTU: 1492
Path MTU Discovery: Yes
Save and Exit Dr. Tcp.
Step 3:
You need to open "Network Connections"... in XP, that's Start > Connect To > Show All Connections. I'm sure you can find it yourself. Anyway there should be an icon called "Local Area Connection (x)" with "Wireless Mobile-based Device" written in grey underneath.
Right click on that and select DISABLE. This will close your USB connection to your Wizard so those MTU settings can be applied.
Now unplug your Wizard from its cable. Here, I tried right clicking on the connection and selecting "Enable", but it just errored. So you need to unplug it.
Step 4:
Reconnect and see what happens. I am now happily disconnecting and reconnecting as many times as i like and it just keeps on synchronising itself. MAMMA MIA!
If this solves your nasty "i need to reset every time I disconnect" problems then please post here to say so. If it doesn't work then post here also, I guess. If this is a solution for you then credit for this is not mine - it's just the sum total of a lot of searching across this and other forums, websites and message boards. THANKS!
not working
These steps did not work for me.
I still have to reset the device otherwise I get this message after about 5 minutes.
"Synchronization cannot be completed successfully. Reconnect your device and try again. If the problem persists, see the Microsoft ActiveSync Troubleshooter in Microsoft ActiveSync Help on your desktop computer."
It appears to be only a problem syncing as I can still explore the device.
well...
...that's depressing. I genuinely thought that would work for other people too.
Did you read that PCWorld article I linked to? it explains how I got those numbers... they could be different for you, perhaps?
I'll keep thinking...
I did not look at the article. I'm having other issues trying to get my 2 computers synced with my mobile device http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=234189. Once I get those resolved I can try some different things.
On my home computer I am only synchronizing favorites and files and it doesn't appear to be a problem.[/url]
Oh right ok. I read your other post too, but I only have 1 PC for home and work so i can't help with that.
Has anyone else tried this?
I am no longer having the problem since I fixed my other sync issue (multiple computers issue). I had reinstalled activesync and did a hard reset on my device so maybe something else got cleared up. I am also having much better luck with the way my device is running. Before I was getting frequent slowdowns and lockups. I am a much happier customer and will be sticking with my cingular 8125. I just love all the features, but the activesync issues and slowness was starting to get to me. I'm so glad it is all behind me now and I can start to really enjoy the thing. Although I have yet to connect my bluetooth headset, that may have caused me issues too. Sorry I couldn't be more help testing this out.
I and a work college have had this problem on both our systems and found that it was being caused by Avantgo.
It would work fine and sync every time for days until we installed Avantgo.
After these we both had the symptoms you describe in the first post until we did a hard reset and re installed everything except Avantgo, it was then fine again. As a test I then reinstalled it and it started not syncing again, my college who has not reinstalled it has had no further problems.
I have now been running for 3 weeks with no problems and no Avantgo.
If you have it installed it may be worth trying it without for a wile and see if it helps.
Didn't work for me. Still no connection when plugging in for the 2nd time. MTU value changes back to blank when opening the Dr.TCP again, the other values are ok though. But thanks anyway for the hints!
Greetings,
Andreas
Didn't work for me neither...
just to check (i know this sounds daft) but you did DEFINITELY press the SAVE button in Dr TCP before you pressed the EXIT button? can't imagine why it wouldn't store the data.
aaaaaaaaanyway i guess it's not the ubersolution i thought it was
Now I thought I had this working 100% using this hack (It was on a clean install of WM5 however so this may have been why it worked). Anyhow, it stopped working again after I installed PocketWeather ... now locks up whenever I connect....
I wonder if it is 3rd part s/w causing some of the problems with AS? Is it down to the scheduled update in PocketWeather or simply hooks into the ConnectionManager / ActiveSync from apps looking to see if a network connection exists....
I think some more investigation is required ... or perhaps I will flood MS with 1000's of emails telling them how flakey their software is *(Though I think they already know that)*
Any updated? I'm having this same problem, except my device won't connect at all! Even after a reset. It connected once and that was it.
Hi Silentz,
sure, I saved the settings. I'll try the ActiveSync clean install-method and report the results. 'Hope that MS will put out an update or better version soon! Rumours out there?
Greetings,
Andreas
tried and failed...
tried the above TCP solution- Not working for me either...
Found best solution. Go try the latest imate rom. You can then plug out/in the cable as many times as you want & it'll just work fine.

It seems to be as soon as you access the internet through the passthru connection on Activesync. So installing AvantGo/PocketWeather might explain this to a certain degree as they may be accessing the internet.
Incidentally, how could Microsoft have stuffed up so badly with Activesync? It's a tiny program but works so badly - Couldn't a third party come up with a different version of Activesync or something? I'd pay for it if it worked better than this crock!
Just for info, the latest iMate ROM (With Push Email) does indeed seem to fix this issue. Obviously it was with the WM5 side rather than anything that could be fixed on the PC side.
My Active-sink probelms disappeared since upgrade to the latest iMate ROM. Has been working like a charm with all apps and utilities installed, Tweaks2k2, Spb Pocket Plus, Pocket Informant, Worldmate Pro, etc...
told you it works
cheers
I am running the 2.08 (Qtek test) rom and have this issue since last friday. before that never had it!!
What I changed on thursday was: enable exchange server sync and use it. because push-email si no solution for me I just disabled it and dropped the association.
Then (on friday) the trouble started.
I tried DrTCP...and ended up with a broken netlogon (secure client) service on the pc. The IS solution for that was a new image . . thank you very much.
I am back on track with the pc now, but AS still slows down my device.
Are any of you having this trouble using or have used:
-Push email
-Blackberry
What is the amount of free program memory on your device? Mine is around 6MB (probably caused by Blackberry install which I cant remove). . . .

Activesync doesnt sync via USB, works great wth Bluetooth ?

Hi,
today i found a new problem which alarmed me a bit. For all these days, I have been syncing my qtek9100 with my laptop using activesync bluetooth partnership. Everything worked great all the time - no issues.
today i just tried using the usb cable to sync. I can see that the moment I connect the cable to the phone, activesync recognises the phone and presents the authentication window and then later connects me to the phone. Great till here. But then, the pc activesync window shows "Looking for changes.." for a brief moment and then shows "Syncronizing.." and gets stuckup. On the qtek side, all I see is "Connecting" and thats it. I tried to be patient but nothing happens at all.
Interesting thing is that, with this USB cable connection the Tools->Add Remove programs and Tools->Explore Pocket PC work absolutely fine. I could install a software too, successfully.
Can someone tell me if I am missing some steps coz of which it doesnt sync when on usb connection ?
Very important concern is that, if I want to upgrade the ROM I need to establish PC<->qtek connection via usb. Since I am able to explore or install software when on usb, is it safe to go ahead with upgrading process ? (the fact that i am not able to sync using usb makes me feel my partnership is not setup properly enough for me to start the upgrade)
Can anybody guide me through this ?

I have the same problem with my brand new Qtek9100 (I received it just today). I think it's just a bug in the ROM (I am using the latest stable from the XDA FTP). I don't think there is much we can do, to be honest. My ActiveSync doesn't have such problems with any of my other 6 PDAs.
Firewalls?
Guys, are you sure it's not a software firewall ? I had the same problem. Even opened up the firewall completely and it wouldn't work. If I exit the SW firewall, it works perfectly.
Hope that helps, DBo.

Oh !!, well thats something I need to check out. When I go bck home today, let me check it. I dont have any other firewall software installed other then the one which came with windows xp sp2.
By the way, I just let the activesync run the whole night just see what happens, and in the morning, I was presented with this error.
0x80072ee2
The server could not be reached. This can be caused by temporary network conditions. This condition is generally temporary. Try to sync again later.

Let me see what more I can dig into. But with this situation, is it safe to upgrade the ROM ? I mean can I assume that my activesync partnership via usb is working properly and its just a sync issue ?

How to stop random activesync action ????

Pleased with my Orange M3100 so far, about 3 weeks of use...
Just have one problem, activesync randomly starts up and I'm bothered that I may accidently start a phone call if it fires up whilst in the case and I don't know about it...
I have the WiFi turned off unless I need it and also have data disabled using
the util off MODACO... so it shouldn't be seeing any thing to sync to, the only thing active is the Bluetooth which I leave on all the time for headset or GPS use with TOMTOM...
Any thoughts please....

You need to use the 'Fake Server Trick'. I can't find links to it on this forum, but if you spend a bit of time searching you'll find it on the board somewhere. I saw it mentioned recently.
It was a must-do on my old Dell Axim x51v because it would stop the PDA starting and lose the compactflash card amongst other problems, requiring a soft reset to start the PDA. Not so much a necessity on the Vario II thankfully. If you can't find it here I posted a thread on Aximsite a while ago giving the procedure step by step:
http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=112638
@ Gooners
Is this gonna stop the WSOD and the "not coming back from standby mode"? Cause I've got these problems in daily basis and I have to reset all the time
I have a question about the fake server trick. Will it stop direct push? Also, will it stop updates to my calendar and contacts from syncing?

I can't really answer your question with absolute certainty because I don't use the Direct Push service on my Vario II.
However, I would guess if you already have an Exchange server mapped for Direct Push, then you need to have Activesync running for it to work properly and sync with the Exchange server regularly, so the F.S.T. is probably not for you.
That said - if you are getting problems which *may* have something to do with Activesync launching itself while on standby and causing WSOD etc, you could apply the F.S.T. then just load Activesync manually, start a manual sync, then close Activesync down afterwards. This would completely defeat the object of Direct Push though!

Give it a whirl... it can't do any harm.
I didn't realise the Hermes/TyTN/VarioII sufferred from these problems... maybe because I did the F.S.T. on my VarioII the moment I received it.
I did the fake server trick, seemed to work, but after a while ActiveSync is back in my runinng programs list. Is that normal or should the program be gone?
Every time you dock and sync with your PC, Activesync will load on your TyTN no matter what. When you undock you'll need to manually close Activesync otherwise it will stay running in the background.
I'm assuming you docked at some point?

No, I didn't. I did the server trick 4 times now, but every few hours when I look at my open programs ActiveSync is there again. I don't know if ActiveSync still tries to sync automatically or does nothing, but is is there...
Killsync - Stop ActiveSync!
So you have ActiveSync and you want to stop it from running. Well with Killsync, it stops ActiveSync so you can release the ram and increase the speed of your PC. This application does the same thing as the user switching to the task manager and killing the wcescomm task. When you need ActiveSync you can click on the ActiveSync icon. You can try putting Killsync in your startup to close ActiveSync if it starts first.

Just got around to trying the fake server trick yesterday, it appears to have worked on my M3100.. May it continue...
Thanks for help
Phil
Hi all yes I tried the Fake server trick 2 weeks ago before going To Germany on Business. I have not had the problem in the two weeks away. seems to have worked though I was not syncing quite as much or to same office PC. I will see home it goes now I am back in the office.

ActiveSync/PCtoUSB Problems

Hey guys,
i've got a very big problem.
I dont know why but every time i connect my Blackstone to the Computer it always open the "Internet Sharing" thing. Ive changed it over "Settings" back to Sync (and in settings/connections/USB to PC, check "Ask me first about USB connection type when I connect the device to the PC" also), but no change.
Then i canged in the registry the following key "HKLM\Software\HTC\USBToPCPopUP\" DWORD: OnlyTwoChoice=1
now the HTC Popup with the option "Sync" and "HDD" show up, but when i choose Sync it doesent connect and sync.
I want my three Options back and want the option that i can choose out of "Sync" "HDD" and "Internet Sharing"
Thank you
greetz
I started getting this problem when I used the Internet Sharing option for the first time. From then on it would automatically try IS instead of Activesysnc, no matter what I did.
I solved it by unticking the Enable faster data syncronization box in USB to PC tab, but this results in a clunky pile of tabs that come up when connecting to the PC.
Unticking the "Enable faster data syncronization" box in USB to PC tab, doesent solve the problem
Hello
I got the same problem where I did not get the "3 choices" screen while connecting to usb, and IS by default...
I just deleted all keys in the registry under //HKLM\Software\HTC\USBToPCPopUP\
and it went back to normal....
Hope it will the same for you..
I have the same problem since a while, but haven't found a solution yet... starting to get a little desperate...

in fact, i'm facing the exact same problem as described in this htcforum.com post:
"http://www.htcforums.com/post5958.html#p5958" (yes, i posted there too )
i'm pretty sure the problem is NOT pc-related, the data-connection fails at every possible system i tested it with (ranging from xp to vista to ubuntu to osX), at least the usb-diskmode worked before on all these systems before... not anymore...
the answer of HTC support wasn't of much help either:
Dear valued HTC customer, Thank you for contacting our Customer Support Center. We are dedicated to providing you with the best quality service and answering all of your questions and concerns. You recently wrote us about an issue that you have encountered with your device. To clarify your issue, you stated that you were unable to connect your device to the PC. . For this you will need a full version of Microsoft Outlook 2003 or newer and Microsoft Activesync for Windows XP or Windows Mobile Device Centre for Vista. Once these are installed simply connect your device to your PC and it will transfer your details to your PC. I hope this is of help to you. If you need any further help we recommend calling for a direct guidance on these steps for synchronising. If the above steps do not resolve your issue, we invite you to visit the support area on our Web site.

i suspect them of not even reading about my problem, and just firing some default answer back... not really helpfull.
so i keep looking around for possible solutions for now.
I'm seriously thinking to make use of the warranty, but hate to lose the device for a long periode... anybody has experience with that?
another PCtoUSB problem, i get all 3 options, HDD and Internet Work perfectly, ActiveSync however doesn't. Vista recognizes it as a USB Pocket PC, but Vista Sync Center and WMDC do not, nothing. On HTC i get the charging icon, but not the Sync icon. Also in the ActiveSync --> Connections menu i have "Sync all PCs using this connection:" ticked, however the drop down menu is empty, nothing to select.
in the ActiveSync start screen there's just the fake Microsoft Exchange account, nothing else
Everything was working fine till few days ago :/

I tried this but still get ICS opening when I connect my device up. It is driving me mad now trying to sort this - I may even resort to a hard reset before the end of the weekend.
The only way I can get sync to work is to disable the faster data sync option.
hmm, every system i test with gives the same result:
the htc device does charge, but the usb data-connection never works...
could it be a faulty connector?
