Cell Broadcast messages in WM6+ - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 ROM Development

Is it possible to show them?
I've tried http://community.softteq.com/blogs/nick/archive/2006/03.aspx this but nothing happens... I also don't recall ever being able to use it in WM2003 either...

I have tried that too but it did not work at all. As far as I can remember, way way way way back...LOL...when I used to have a pager, even I already terminated my subscription to my provider I can still receive news, infos, etc on my pager. I think it works the same way as cell broadcast right? It's cool if we can make this cell broadcasting whatever work on our PPC.

Why incoming call is blocked while GPRS is in transmission?

hi all,
i got a very annoying "feature" in the O2 Cosmo(T-Mobile Dash). The incoming call will be blocked(heard busy tone) if the GPRS is in transmission. I was complained by many friends.
To my understanding, there's a setting in some phones to enable both GSM/GPRS concurrent connections. Is there such setting in Windows Mobile?
My ROM is 1.13.207.2, RADIO is 4.1.13.28_02.63.90
i tried to refersh its ROM, but don't know how to CID unlock. the "RUU_Excalibur_SPL-1.11_UpgradeOnly.exe" on the server has no luck for me, still "Invalid model ID".
can anythone show light on me?
thank you
reply
I think microsoft released a patch for that: i'll try find it on google for you. can you explain what configuration you used?
I think the 'patch' you need is called 3G.
I have the exact same problem and I opened a thread on it as well.
Read here.
The conclusion we reached was that this is a network, not phone dependent problem.
yeah never happent to me ever
thanks for all the replies.
My previous phone is O2 XDA Mini S(Wizard). I used that one to receive push mail provided by GoodLink, which requires GPRS always on. I didn't have such issue with that, at least no complain from my friends.
That's why i am wondering something wrong with the RADIO configuration. I didn't make any specific change to my new O2 XDA Cosmo(Excalibur).
best regards
And back to my memory.
I used to have the classical Ericsson T39. There was a setting to enable GSM incoming call during GPRS transmission(cannot remember the exact name). By enable that, i can still receive incoming call, and the GPRS connection will auto resume after the call.
Is there similar setting for Windows Mobile?
There is not as far as I've ever known. I've used smartphones that determined which was blocked and which was not based on which application was in use at the time. That is, if you were actively using IE or some other network app, phone calls would go straight to voice mail. If a non-network app was front and center at the time, the network would be disconnected and the phone would ring. That (and the SE settings mentioned above which I saw on my SE phones too) showed that it was a phone setting made by the carrier. I'd hope there's a little more intelligence behind it than just "voice trumps network" but if there is, I couldn't tell you what determines which gets through and when.
I've found that it's based on the amount of data being transmitted at the time of the (attempted) call. For example, high-bandwith usage such as media streaming will lead to the incoming phone call being blocked/diverted most of the time, whereas sporadic usage (eg. PING, or loading a very simple web page) has allowed a call to come in, temporarily disabling GPRS. GPRS can never be used during a phone call.

UMTS and phonecalls together

I searched this forum, but found no answer to my following question:
I have a Hermes with WM6.
A coworker also wants to buy this device (or similar), but had one question I couldn't answer::
Is it possible to use a WM6 device as a modem for my laptop to use UMTS (3G) or GPRS and still be able to receice phonecalls?
I never used this sollution, so I wasn't sure.
He needs to use the device as a wireless modem very often, but is afraid that he loses phonecalls during this time.
Has anyone an answer to this?
thanks
Martijn
hi.... depending on the network. say, some networks setup by ericcson have a bug, as i am told.
You can connect to 3g/gprs. However, if you make a call or receive a call, if you have a data transfer happening simultaneously, it will stop. Your connection will not break. But whatever you were doing will sieze. You can resume your internet activity once the phonecall ends.
If you have a network setup by one of the other players like nokia siemens, then you will not have this problem
@mirage22
I don't realy follow you. You say that it depens on the network, but speak of Nokia, Ericson and Siemens. Do you mean this will work with Nokia,..etc phones and not with the hermes (TyTN)? Or is it dependent of the network provider (Like T-Mobile/Vodaphone)?
It seems to me that if you have a 3G connection, it's still possible to place and receive phonecalls. Just like receiving an sms. That's also possible when in a phonecall..
Isn't this something a lot of people do every day?

ms voip support working?

hi,
i can't seem to get it working. people can hear me, but i can't hear them
Anyone got this working?
Thx
it should work, i have not tested it but it should work, the files and registry entryes are taken from a hermes rom for which i am sure that it work and it is the same core and build as ours
i was able to launch the setup earlier... and decided to do it later on..
but when i tried after 2 days ... it just crashed...
did uninstall... softrest... install.. routine few times... and gave up.
I successfully connected to my Hungarian Voip provider (megafone) but no sound at all. Dialing is okay, but I cannot hear it ringing out, cannot hear the other party, they can't hear me. However the connection is there and the connected seconds are charged.
GSM phone, Skype and Fring are working well, only the Ms Voip has problems.
My settings look like this. The 'Dial plan' tab is empty. Is this normal?
Also noted that it didn't terminate the call normally as I pressed the red button, it kept charging on for 15 minutes of talk...
well now i think that something is missing, maybe audio encoders and decoders on which VoIP is dependant, i will look into this and will keep you posted
My tip is also codec-related.
Is it normal that via ActiveSync the voip says No Service? With WiFi it says Available, I think it should also with ActiveSync.
are there any news?
I don't have an issue with VOIP working on my SX66. In fact, I was surprised by how easy it was to get going.
-Chris
You were lucky that your provider uses the same codec as this WM6 build does.
Since I don't use something like Vonage, or Comcast VOIP, I just went out and found a VOIP provider online. VOIPCheap.com works great with this build.
-Chris
Many of us prefer a local VoIP provider though.
VoIP Incoming RTP
Some additional info on the problem with receiving audio. (same is on my phone). I checked which codec this SIP stack negotiates.
Apparently, out of all available, MS VoIP settles either on PCMA or PCMU depending on the other end availability, and refuses other most common ones.
Well, it encodes and sends RTP which I receive on other non wm6 phones and I am sure it receives RTP, and may even decode it, but by the look of it, not a squick is sent to the hardware/speaker.
Cheers
===
Sorted by installing Voip support from (ftp://xda:[email protected]/WM6VoIP.CAB)
and installing on top of the existing (from voip.cab - can't remember the source).
Although the dialplan tab is still blank (requires ipdialplan.xml, I guess) but the SIP settings are remain intact after this 'patch'.
====
I've just tested the MS voip with 3 different VOIP providers, and I also have the "sound" problem with it.
When I use an other VOIP application (like SJphone) all is working fine, so it must be a codec problem that is missing.
I just looked at VOIPCheap.com website. It's sounds interesting. Never tried VOIP from BA. Can someone tell me what i need to do to use VOIPCheap.com on BA to make VOID calls apart from creating an account with VOIPCheap.com? Thanks guys.
Never Mind. Please ignore my last msg. I think i got the answer on there website in FAqs. I'll create the account and see how good it is.
Anyone have any good/bad feedback for VOIPCheap.com service?
Thanks.
There are a lot of threads for VoIP problems in the forums many issues are solved there, i suggest al of the VoIP users to search and read there. Also i understood that difrend providers use difrend encoding-decoding so thats why it works for some and not for everybody
did someone find a fix for the muted audio issue?
i've read many threads about many voip issues on the other forums available here, but it seems like the small amount of ppl who had this problem was left quite alone..
I'm trying to place calls via my asterisk 1.4 box.
thanks

What about implementing a CAPI server?

Hi,
when thinking about connecting my phone to asterisk (consider being home and you want to use one hand set for all calls - your DECT device), it came to my mind, that a PPC CAPI server would be neat.
Having that, I could connect my phone via WLAN, Bluetooth, USB etc. to my asterisk box which routes all other landline calls yet. The PPC would act as a GSM gateway.
What are your opinions?
Depends on which direction you want to arhieve.
If you just want to route call from your land line to your mobile via asterisk, that should be easy. You only need a standard SIP client.
But the other way round is somewhat difficult if not entirely impossible. Almost all WM devices doesn't allow any user programs to access the GSM voice channels during call. (That's why there's no proper software for builtin answering machine or even phone recording software available.) Not to mention your would be PPC CAPI server.
I'd almost believe if it were not for GSM beam: transfer data over voice calls thus accessing both voice streams.
It seems that you have some confusions over GSM Voice and GSM Data.
What you have shown is GSM Data <-> GSM Data via GSM modem. It's doable. There's a commercial program available called SecureGSM.
What I said in my last response is that when GSM Voice is active, you can do absolutely nothing at the voice channels - at least for all those HTC devices.
If I understand your problem correctly, when there's a ring at your mobile, your program would supposedly pick it up and route all in/out bound voice to/from asterisk. Remember that the incoming phone would be in GSM Voice call, not a data called at the other end.
That means once your OS takes over the "ring", (more specifically the cprog.exe) it takes over the voice channels and you just can't sniff the mic or loudspeaker, etc., and hence you won't be able to bridge those voice to your asterisk.
Hope this makes things clear.
Hi all,
do I understand it wrong, or is what Chatty is trying to achieve something close to:
http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-Asterisk+Bluetooth+channels
It allows to use any cellphone with bluetooth as an FXO, and it uses the standard bluetooth devices, henche no WM* needed. Just an old spare GSM phone you have lying around
Regards,
DAniele
Yes, sorry I did not clarify that in the pm. GSMbeam is purely data that gets transfered over the csd line.
SecureGSM was mentioned above, but don't forget that www.scrambit.com also dose securely encrypted calls over csd lines.
also, from my experience moving audio data around, these devices have a hard time keeping up with the processing demands of a real time two way conversation. I have spent many hours agonizing over cutting code down to be faster. Add the processing cost of maintaining a connection to another device (bt etc) and its a recipe for failure.

This should work on ordinary non-WM phones with BT with normal AT command set. But I think it's quite tricky to get it working on WM since cprog.exe could be trapping the modem interface via TAPI when it started. Probably it needs to be killed.
This is a possible way to achieve what Chatty mentioned. Love to hear if it really works.
I cannot read italian either.
The reason tapi exists is to allow multiple apps equal access to the modem. cprog.exe running does not stop any other programs from doing what it needs to. It does prevent the other programs using the ui while the phone is ringing but that's it.

This Wiki page deals with different (successful) ways of BT streaming to asterisk. Only project still in active development is chan_mobile I think.
How do you know that the GSM voice lines cannot be accessed? The non-existance of a call recorder is not sufficient, is it? It'd be interesting to chat with some linux guys coz with supported devices they usually got full hw access unlike Win Mobile users.

Hello,
I'm one of Scrambit developers; I want to advertise that our crypto phone application is freely downloadable from here or from this page and you can freely test it making crypto-calls.
Scrambit is available in many languages, English, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Dutch and obviously in Italian, and the website also will be available in English within few time.
If somebody is interested to Scrambit this page is available to contact us.

Tracking a lost phone by gps

I have read there are programs for getting a stolen phone to send you a secret text with coordinates.
I would like to know if it is possible track a handset from a pc through software.
(i don't know much about gps but im guessing each one has its own address or id of some sort)
also I would like to know if this is possible when the handset is off?
There is commercial Sprite Terminator which has GPS coordinates message option built in. However I do not know whether it can satisfy all your needs. You can check it here.
a GPS is a passive device. It means that the satellites don't read informations from the GPS device, it's the contrary.
So in my opinion there is no way to "track" the GPS chip if there isn't a started program to do that on the phone.
However, tracking a cellular should be possible if you have "access" to the GSM antenae informations.
There is a program I use thats aimed towards devices with built-in GPS like my X7500 but can also work with bluetooth GPS but obviously they both need to be together and connected. One is what im using is MobileJustice http://sourceforge.net/projects/mjustice ,this one is free .The other one which is about the same but has a few extra features is w.i.m.p http://www.wimp-software.co.uk/ , this one is a commercial product. With both you set a password that you can send to your lost/stolen phone in a special format then silently one of those programs picks it up (txt msg doesnt even show) then it fires up GPS to get the phones position then sends it back to msg sender. Also with both if the sim card is changed it sends a txt msg to a number you configure to send it to in the program with the new number and sim id i believe.I recommend MJustice even tho it takes a bit of configuration, but also you can cook it in a rom in case anyone figures out how to hard reset it will be already installed with the config you cook it with.I can tell you MJustice saved me from a stroke when i lost my phone, i used my friends phone at work to send that special txt to my phone got the coordinates a few min later then used a gps to find it.
as stated one can never get gps to send any info to anything
so if it should send anything to anywhere it would be using
gsm/umts or the likes to send it's gps pos to somewhere
and if one reports ones phone stolen all gsm/umts stops working
to saves ones bill
cheers all. think i'll give Mjustice a look.
There's one I tried, and it works great: vito findme. Give it a try.

Hi D1ab70, I have a cdma phone. Do you know any software works for this. The phone is Samsung Rant. I lost it and I want to use a software similar to the one mentioned above to track the phone.
TIA,
usually, you need to install the software BEFORE you lose it.
then you send a specially worked txt to your phone and it sends you its GPS co-ordinates back.
if you could do it without installing software first it would be a massive privacy issue because i could track you or anyone else
I lost it already and don't have any control of it. I want to make some effort to locate it before I terminate my services. Thanks for your reply d-signet.
dial 911 and tell them that you lost your phone and they will call your phone and if somebody picks it up they will know the exact location where your phone is..personally i know somebody that works for the sheriff..it is just a matter of having connections..good luck.

I did talk to them and they will track it once I file a report. The problem is I can not file any report for a few more days due to some other reason.
Sprint's feature of family: locatr also gives the info, if activated. Again, Sprint will need the confirmation from the phone needs to be tracked, which doesn't help the situation here.
I wish there would be some other way,
Thanks for all the replies.
