Dumb questions regarding putting games onto the diamond - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV Themes and Apps

I apologise for posting such a topic, but could anybody help me with the putting any emulators and more games onto the phone. Its my 1st windows mobile device and this site is completely confusing for me since this is the first time ive been on it. Also any sites which explain how to put them on or have a nice range would be helpful.
Thanks

Just use ActiveSync to send the file from your PC to your phone. Remember where you've stored it, because when you open File Explorer (on your phone) you'll need to go straight to that same location. Open the .cab and the file should install on your phone. Reboot.

o2 XDA Mini S:Complete Newbie Help Required!(firmware,tones)

I just got my XDA Mini S two days ago. I've searched several forums looking for help, and I can't understand a lot of what's being said. That said, I would be extremely grateful if someone could help me out.
1) Is there firmware or something equivalent that I should get? If so, where and how do I install it (if it doesn't come with instructions)?
2) People have complained that the o2 service thing slows down their mini S, and I've read how to do it, but am not clear how. Can someone give me a step-by-step? Also will I lose all my contacs doing this?
3) I've copied lots of midis over to my Sounds folder, but I'm not allowed to set any of them as ringtones. Is there a way round this?
4) What programs can you recommend that I should use to get the most out of my unit?

1-Why do you wnat some software, firmware? If you mean unlocking your phone it is here under unlock tool.
2-Sync your contacts on to your pc, then hard reset your phone. then after set up it will say about to customise hit the rest that will stop alll o2 stuff loading.
3- Ringtoones you need to drop in the rings folder under your window directoty in your phone.
4. Really depending what your uses are, what you want your phone to do?
Please do serach and read some threads. I am patient, other forum users can be a bit savage. I have been there a long time ago. Welcome to the forum. I reccommend reading some threads and see differnt peoples views of flashing etc.
I have honestly looked around and read a lot of the mini S threads, but there's a lot of terminology I don't understand. It took me ages to find this thread, as it's called Wizard!
1) Firmware as in upgrades? I don't know if any exists and I can't find an official website. It's already unlocked so I'm not worried about that.
2) Hard reset? As in the button? And what do you mean by "hit the rest"?
3) Thanks!
4) I was hoping there'd be a list of software specifically for the phone and I 'd pick and choose.
Thanks for your help and patience!
Ok,
I know what you mean about terminology?
It was once upon a time jargon to me. Apologies ok
To hard rest press the top two buttons on the let and right hand sie of your phones. On the left the one above the volume slider. On the rigt the one next along from the on off button.
Whilst pressing these two use your stylus to press in the dip switch nera teh infared port. Then hold on to the buttons. You wil then get a message asking you to do a format. press the green key. This will wipe all your data.
Once you go through the aligining screen and cut and paste section. it will tell you to tap your screen.
After this you get a message saying customization is about to begin.
At this point useing the tip of your stylus stick in to the hole by the infared port. This will reset the phone and none of the o2 stuff will load up.

OK, a few problems.
1) When I connect the mini to my PC, it won't let me synchronise my contacts, calander etc. only my files. What's going on?
2) When I explore my PocketPC, there is no Windows folder to speak of, only the My Documents folders. There's an Explore Pocket PC, but that only leads to Program Files, Windows Media Player etc.
Are you with o2? I found another thread with alleged settings for mms and the sort, so I'll try that if I can get these contacts saved.

Simple issue with this have you set your mini up as a guest active sync account?
If not once it does sync then go to tools options, you will find contacts not selected. I found this on mine also the other settings you will have to adapt to your needs.
As for the windows folder if you fo to view options within the folder and enable hidden files. Your windows folder will appear. werid never have this with my windows 2003 devices.
I am not with o2 but I have all the settings. If you still have an issue, pm me and I will try and help you over the phone if you'd like.

you need to install Windows XP SP2 on yr desktop/laptop, and set the firewall to OFF, at least this is working for me.
I think there is some thread discussing about synchronizing WM5

Warning and Notice of destructive file on xda ftp site (atom upload area)

This is a evil tiny program, I guess it is malware, in the form of a trojan. I downloaded it from
ftp://xdaupload:[email protected]/Atom/Unlocker/
HTC Atom Unlocker.exe
I was and aware of all of the warning about it being a global public site, and anyone can upload to it. 1000 downloads later, all of which worked, or didnt work but never had a negative effect, I was caught feeling stupid when I seen what this little pointless program did to my computer.
Defender didn't detect it, Mcafee 8.0i enterprize (4909 dat 5100engine) didn't detect it.
When I executed this file it popped up a notepad window with
"Hello! Upon reading this message your computer is starting to shut down. Your Data Link Library is going to destroy, all your files say goddbye... Did you know that some programs are cute and stealth like this, amagin isn't it...
ARE YOU READY TO THIS DISASTER!!!
Very Importain Reason Unless Shutdown"
Mean while my computer was running with CPU 100% and the hard drive chugging away. It seems that it deleted what was in my root directory (c:\) most of the contents of c:\windows and c:\windows\system32.
Before submitting this I verified this file does what I'm explaining by duplicating it on a old beatup xp laptop I use for testing stuff. the program seems to run some command in a hidden cmd window. I was able to kinda stop the program the second time around cause I was prepared for it.
I was not sure where to post this sorry if I picked a bad place, but I feel it is importain for the whole xda community that we eradicate this file and any ones like it from the ftp site..
Only good that seemed to come from this is, I dont have time to worry about fixing the Ipaq 6515a that been driving me nuts for last 5 weeks casue I cant seem to get a radio stack to flash back to the unit, cause I get rebuild one of my systems again... anyways this site and community of modivated good thinkers has to be one of the best groups of people I've seen work together on the net... .. (everyone very helpfull as long as you not have a HP IPAQ 6515a phone needing a gsm stack flash) ..
All the information on all the other HTC phones that I have has been very accurate and plentiful! Thank you all!! (not the person who uploaded HTC Atom Unlocker.exe to the ftp site..)lol
Mb
Thanks for info.
I confirm this. very nasty little proggie.
I did a look inside this file, it said
Demo Version. This application created with Unregistered version of Quick Batch File Compiler. Visit http://www.abyssmedia.com for more info.
So, I guess itself is just a nasty batch file. Can't get details of the code though.
I've renamed the file with a .DANGER.DONOTUSE at the end.

About to Get a Mogul...What Programs Should I Get?

There seems to be a ton of posters here who know a lot about the Mogul and phones/PDAs in general...so I figured I'd pose the question to you all.
I'd love suggestions for what I should download...so if possible, could you respond with answers to the following questions:
1) What program?
2) What does it do? Please state the purpose/usefulness.
3) How do I download and install it? Link to find the download?
4) What, if any, existing program will be unnecessary once I download it? And can that unnecessary program be deleted?
I've never had a PDA, so any and all suggestions are welcome. I'll be using the PDA predominantly for calls, web-surfing, and messaging.
Also keep in mind that I'm new to all of this, and I'm a complete moron...I don't understand a damned thing. So talk to me like I'm a 5-year-old. I don't know abbreviations like SMS or MMS, or whatever.
Thanks in advance, I appreciate you taking time out to help me.
Well one of the programs I use the most on my phone is The Core Media Player (TCPMP) it is by far the best media player for Pocket PC's and can play most file types. you can get more information from here, and if you want to download it just respond saying yes and ill post a link. Don't download it from the site as I have a newer version than on that site.
http://www.freewareppc.com/multimedia/tcpmp.shtml
i hate to be the one to say it, but after seeing the views on this go up and no replies i'm just going to say what everyones been thinking. look around? theres hundreds of threads with stuff to download for your phone, you just have to look a little
Most of our WM devices are very similar. As such, pretty much everything that's been said before still applies, so check the wiki, where you should find many articles related to this conundrum.

Yeah, can you post a link? Thanks, I appreciate it.
And to you other two, I understand that...like I said, though, I'm a beginner and a lot of stuff goes over my head. So I figured I'd create a thread and can ask questions and whatnot.
It's fine if people don't want to respond, though. Life will go on. And some people have been nice enough to take time to explain stuff to me, so it's ok.

Have you got .8?
I've heard rumors of its existance, but can't find it yet. Still running 0.72... If that's the newer version that you've got, would you mind sharing it?
Here it is v.81, sorry it wouldn't let me upload to the site like normal so i put it on megaupload, to install it just download the file and copy it to your memory card or phone memory, then open it with file explorer on your phone and install it to either the device or memory card. Then open it from start/programs/media player

Sprite Backup
Sprite Backup is a must! Even if you keep it connected to your ActivSync PC daily, it is good to have a baseline you can always restore to, and I'd suggest having it backup to your SD card, and rename one of them every few weeks so you have something to restore from in case it gets completely fragg'd.
Another one is Skyfire (Beta) mobile internet browser.
I'd also suggest you get Microsoft Reader or EReader so you can have pocket novels on your phone (it's a nice thing to have when you're waiting for something). Also, rip your DVD's to your PC and encode them to WMV format and your ActivSync can put them on your SD card...
All of these tricks are discussed here in the forum. Hope this helps.
I will just give titles of some of the apps that I use. Google them to find where and what they do.
PIM: PocketInformant
Wallet: CodeWalletPro 6
Geocaching: GeoScout
maps: Google Maps, Live Search
Bible: Bible Reader
Today Plugin: HHC Home Customizer (will download HTC home plugin)
Shell: SBP Mobile Shell v.2
Browser: Opera Mini
Regedit: PHM RegEdit
File: Resco File Explorer
Video: TCPMP
Navigation: TomTom7
There are a bunch of other little apps that just make life easy, go to Handango.com and find what you need your phone to do for you.

Need a HTC mentor...

Hi,
I just bought a HTC HD2 (Leo). I've looked around in all the forums and can't find the info I'm looking for plus all the answers to all the other questions I have.
My first question is, how can I save directly to the SD card instead of the phone memory? I've looked everywhere to find an answer to that and I've even contacted the HTC support (in Sweden) but no luck. Does anybody know? Is it possible? I have a ton more questions, but I can only ask one at a time, if i understood the rules correctly.....
Sorry, but what are you trying to save, an example may help. Usually you are asked where you want to save something. Also treat yourself to Resco Explorer at some point. Makes working with files so much easier.
For example, when I send files from my old phone (photos, music etc.) it just saves it on the phone memory. It fills up my phone completely and at once. I had to move the files to the SD memory but everything didn't fit on the phonememory. I don't get any question where I want to save my files. Is there any way (that someone knows about) where I can change that? And thanks for the tip about the download, I will check that out! And I can't whatch divx movies on my phone - any tips?
Hmmm, see I used Windows Media Player to sync music and photos and it gave me the option where to sync to. I guess the problem is if you are going direct from Phone to phone you aren't getting the same level of configuration.
I believe Coreplayer is for DivX.
Free DivX layer here
Thank you for the link!! Been looking for that one. Since I'm new to windowsphones, do you know of any link (tutorial) where I can learn how to install coreplayer (and other apps - like flash and others)?
Things will either come as Install packages that are run from your PC while the device is connected via Activesync or WMDC. Alternatively applications are downloaded as .cab files which you stick somewhere on your storage card and run them from within File Explorer.
Thank you for helping a novice out! I'm gonna try it out!

Need help loading new programs

I'm new here so please bare with me. I just bought a used Sprint Mogul and I'm looking to "play" with it a bit. Nothing real crazy as I've been scanning this forum over the last few days waiting for my phone to come in the mail and I just want to keep it simple. I have the programs that I want to load on the phone and I don't need to flash the ROM or anything like that to use these. My question is this. Do I need to unlock my phone to add these programs and how do I load them to my phone ? Do I need a special program to do this or can I just use active sync ? The instructions I have to load the programs are pretty simple but they do not tell me how to install them. Just the order to install them and soft reset etc. I have found some really cool things on this forum about my phone but as much as I have learned I also have alot of unanswered questions as well.
Thanks in advance.
Fairly simple....
If the program you want to install is an .exe file, then you will hook your phone up with the usb cable and let active sync do its thing. Then double click the file to install. Active sync will prompt you with the rest.
If the file is a .cab file, then transfer the file the way it is to your microsd card using the active sync browse. Browse to the folder you want to put it then drag and drop or copy/paste. Then on the phone, tap start/programs/ file explorer. Go to where the .cab file is and tap it! Thats all!
If you install a program you dont want installed anymore you can un-install it through start/settings/system remove programs.
Remember... the programs you use every time your phone is on... like dialer skins, today screen themes, rintones, etc install to device memory! Other programs like games, mp3 songs, videos, ebooks, etc can go to the microsd card!!
Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. Sounds pretty simple. I have another question. This is going to sound pretty dumb I'm sure but I'll ask anyway. The programs I'm going to load...will they over write the programs already on the phone ? I understand there is internal memory and this phone seems to be just like a pc. And I know that when memory gets low or used then things tend to slow down and run bad. BTW the programs I'm going to install are Manila2D and a few others. Don't know much about them but a friend of mine had them put on his Mogul and I like the way it looks and runs compared to the "stock" setup.
Thanks again.
I have another question to ask. Is there a way to back up your contacts list ? If I understand it right.....a "hard reset" will wipe your contacts list along with everything else you have put on the phone and not the sd card. Right ?
