I just received a Samsung branded battery for my Kaiser.
It does not have the metal plate that the OEM battery has.
I am planning on cutting a piece of foil the same size and inserting it under the battery.
Anyone try this?

I would not do this. I do see some contacts on the back of the phone. I do not know what they do. Putting foil down there by a bunch of other battery contacts is just asking for trouble!!

It's a Samusung battery no need to modify anything...
There must have been a reason that the OEM battery had this metal insert which presses up against the earthing contacts in the battery compartment. It could be for RF shielding or for a ground plane for the phone, GPS or WiFi antennas.
Cutting a piece of foil exactly the same dimensions as the OEM battery metal plate and sticking it onto the Samsung battery should effectively put you in the same position as the OEM battery.
I have just neatly cut a sheet of aluminium foil and stuck it on the the replacement battery. All seems to be working fine.

I'm listening to shoutcast a lot by using HSDPA (though not actually using HSDPA speeds) with Pocket player but I'm having power problems. The battery usually only lasts the trip to work (1hour) and then maybe 2 hours more. I'm very mobile in my work (furnishing carpenter) and I want my phone on me while I work. That's why I can't let it be connected to the power outlet while at work. I currently have the Seidio 1600mAh battery and the PDAir hardcase.
That's why I've been looking at the Mugen 3000mAh battery and rubberized case which let's you slide the phone without removing, from a store on eBay.
Case: http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-BLACK-HARD-...photoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262
Battery: http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-EXTENDED-BA...photoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262
Will this work?
Thanks.
The 3000mAh battery requires an extended battery cover, which makes the phone thicker. So that case will not work with the rubberized battery; at least the back of it won't. The front probably would still fit.
Yes I was expecting that but I thought that at lower part of the case would cover half of the lower part of the phone. In that case at least most of the phone is covered. But is there no case that will perfectly fit together with the 3000mAh battery with a belt clip preferably a hard or rubberized case?
edit: What are my options really for a better battery life? Portable charger?
i've got the seidio and unfortunately it seems these type of cases 'snap on' to the phone through tabs. so they must be deep enough or it just won't stay on.
i also have a capdase leather case, which has some sort of shallow tray that fits tightly around the bottom of the stock phone (no plastic). i had hoped to use this with the mugen, but the mugen's replacement case tapers in so it won't fit in the capdase case.... so right now if i use the mugen 3000mah, i just take the phone around 'naked'.
i've been pondering the possibility of one of those cases with the half plastic thing that goes over the keyboard will work... the mugen case makes the phone about 1-2mm thicker. but then again, i'm not keen to buy yet another case for the thing.
That's interesting. 1-2mm thicker isn't that much really. But looking at the Capdase leather and the Nakedcellphone's plastic case pictures it seems It was specially made for the standard hatch+battery. I guess the same applies for the Seidio one.
I have an old Axim X50V with an extended battery and a PDAir alu hard case so it shouldn't be impossible to make one for the Kaiser.
Have you checked if the phone with the Mugen battery works with the OEM leather case?
Thanks.
edit: I think I meant the standard leather case.
so far ??? only one will do with the Mugen 3000mAh ...

Unfortunately, the at&t version doesn't come with a case at all. Where can I find the Kaiser stock case? I couldn't find anything on HTC's website.
Thanks,

If we are thinking about the same Kaiser stock case (the horizontal one in leather) then I have tried this one and it isn't optimal. The phone is simply to tightly squeezed inside the case.
Actually I bought a case from the same shop on Ebay that sold the Mugen battery (Nakedcellphone) and it fits perfectly with enough room for ventilation but the sides of the clip are starting to fall off for some reason so I've put that one away. The best option for me would be a hard case probably by PDAir but I can't find one. The problem with these belt cases is that whenever you want to use your phone It's unprotected.
At the moment I'm simply using a thick textile bag for it. I also have the phone around the neck with a necklace. It works ok but I would really like a rubberized or a hard case.

I seem to remember seeing it on bestbuy business. Otherwise try ebay.
I think this is one actually. Looks like this but with HTC logo on the front.

Mine does all the time. Its a major week point of the phone. Apart from that and the delete key in Opera (will install the beta of 9.5 to resolve this) the phone is near perfect.
It literally jumps off the phone in my pocket, I put it really nicely on the desk and when I pick it up, it has jumped off again. Hold the 4 corners and move one really (i mean really) slightly and the cover pops off.
The plastic clips where I have put the back on continuously are starting to wear down!
Anyone else get this or is it just me?
Yes mine did when I first got it. Easy fix though.
Take the back cover off, where the two interior clips are housed in the cover ( bottom part of cover lined up with the indents on the phone to allow removal of the cover) give it a good squeeze to bend the metal cover in by pushing both sides.
Worked a treat for me.
Thanks, you have made me look stupid
Works a treat!!
While we're on the subject of battery covers, do you guys have any idea what's up with the metal contacts making connections to the battery cover? Is it some kind of grounding thing? maybe an extensible connection of the antenna, or using the batt cover as wifi antenna or something? Hah, but really, it seems odd.
Good tip though, this thing is stuck on there now!
Nope, but the tip is good.
Jump? Mine has a little 'bump' in the middle, a slight outward curve. Took it to 2 service centres and they said it's normal.

Sorry could you explain a little more...i'm a bit blonde haha. The clips on the actual battery cover? where do u bend the metal...like forward, inwards? etc thanks
edit: Nevermind, after taking it off a few times it fits fine now

upside down, your battery cover looks, in profile, roughly like this:
|____|
You want to bend the sides in, on the end where it says SONY ERICSSON, in this manner:
--> /____\ <--
(Don't bend it to such an extreme degree as depicted though, of course! Just an indication of what direction you're bending in...)

I had the same problem. This is how you solve it.
Dont just bend it in the MIDDLE or else you'll deform the entire cover.

Ever notice how there are two metal pins on the back that make contact with the metal cover? Why did HTC put them in there?
Also would one be able to hardwire the antenna too these points so that the metal battery cover can be used as an extended antenna?

They are probably there to cushion the force of the back place being clicked on.

Not a chance, have you ever pulled a HD2 apart? I severely doubt it is a wise idea. Hardware modding of a phone is a fools game.
Is it to dissipate heat?
It's for the car GPS kit.

Not the 3 pins, the 2 balls on either side of the phone.
Is it really for a GPS kit? Maybe that concept kit that HTC never came out with? But what would they do it can't be for power.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
This comes up every month or so, and i agree with Kalavere in that they are there to keep the back plate snug. They are spring loaded, so the plate wont get wobbly with extended clicking on/off. Since the reset button is under the back panel, it seems reasonable that HTC would expect the plate to be removed fairly often.
I also think it plausible that they are earthing points for the antenna, but i think that a little less unlikely.
Not sure exactly what they are for but I am positive they are not there to keep the backplate snug.
They are some kind of a contact point. The metal cover bridges the connection. You will notice that the cover is clean where the points contact.
Never seen the car kit but that is a possibility. I doubt very much that they have anything to do with the antenna. My guess is that they might simply be a ground shield.
I had the same question, I rung up the HTC support here and they told me that even they are not sure, but they did mention that on the inside, it's linked to the antenna for the GPS. Don't know what they mean by that but I guess, it's either an earth (since, if you notice, the area where the nobs rest has the paint scrapped off), or the whole back plate is an antenna. I tried to insulate it, no diff to operations of the GPS or Phone.. *shrug*

Anyone tried these batterys?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-GOLD-2430mAH-BUSINESS-BATTERY-HTC-T8585-LEO-HD2-/320643980080
2430mAh the dame size as the standard battery seems too good to be true....
Had one of the large batterys with the plastic cover and stand, and because of this, I broke my LCD screen.... the plastic cover for them is too flexible, so my phone bent when it was in my hip pocket .... ouch
With the battery I linked, the phone would keep the rigidity given by the metal battery cover and not have a large bump to flex around......
It's a cheap and nasty fake, which is probably weaker than the standard battery. Things which are too good to be true usually are, if it were possible to get that much power into that package then HTC would make one.
Im planning to replace my battery because its 2 years old by now.
Last week my display was replaced under warranty by Samsung, and a new back-cover (with adhesive i guess) was also placed.
Samsung did not replaced my battery, but im planning to do this by myself. Repair guides are easy to follow, so that wont be the problem.
However, in these guides i cannot find anything about adhesive. So my question is, if the backcover and battery comes off, do i need to replace both adhesive layers (backpanel and battery) if i reassemble the phone?
Hi,
This is highly probable. I know some people are extremely careful while removing the back piece and the adhesive stays intact. As for me, I had adhesive tape glued to new backplate I have ordered so all I had to do was to remove any residue left on the frame and put everything back together. The phone is still waterproof.

Well for me its just the battery i need to get replaced. I ordered a battery, but no adhesive. So if i remove carefully, is it mandatory to also replace the adhesive?
If the backplate survives and you ARE careful you should be good. Warm the sides with hair dryer and push it hard back so it won't separate. Not sure about the waterproofing though.

Don't really care about waterproofing. However, What do you mean with "push hard back"? Just like hair waxing and then pulling?
So the used adhesive sticks back
Does anyone knows if the battery cycle count using this method resets with every rom install (clean flash), or is the state of the battery itself?
