I was looking at the Samsung Behold II and noticed the TouchWiz UI.
Any chance someone has heard of this and whether or not it will make it into one of our builds?
So far I only see one possible phone on the horizon that I would "possibly" trade up to from the G1, but it looks like the OS is going to stay android and that would be the "Dragon" if it ever makes it to Tmobile.
In all honesty, you're better off staying put with the G1 for now. The Behold is pretty ugly in my opinion, and after playing with it I found the TouchWiz UI to be gimmicky. After awhile, I found it annoying and shut it off and just used the regular android set-up

ya the dragon is the better .i would wait for it ,t ,mobile will be getting it soon !
Just say no to Touch Wiz
Go read a review for the Behold II and then see if you still want to use the Touch Wix UI. I say stay away from Samsung until they can hire some good software designers and not make something that works against the operating system.
Here's a good one.

Any chance of you posting this in the right forum?
Any chance of you ^ not being a [email protected]%?
I asked the question in the developers forum because its development.
I swear, drama police everywhere.
As Android User who is waiting Samsung Galaxy S, this is horrible BS to customer. Behold ii can run even Froyo
Their software support is horrible. I tried to think Galaxy S will be different, but I cannot stop to think Froyo would be last update for Galaxy S.
That IS bad news. Please do as I do and email Samsung too tell them that this is just bad for them self. I have already seen a lot of comments about that this will keep people from buying the Galaxy S. People does not want too buy a expensive phone that risks too be outdated in a year or so.
Behold 2 have poor qualcomm processor(not like Spica and Moment, which have samsung cpu)
Samsung don´t have drivers for it
Agreed... the Behold II does not offer the same kind of upgrade potential as the i9000.
It should be easier to see Froyo at the very least.
Not the best news, but I can only hope Samsung realizes that if it really wants a big piece of the android market is MUST show a better track record on updates. I'm giving them my money this time, but I'll have no qualms about switching to someone else next time if they dont do their bit.
Hopefully taking Qualcomm out of the picture will make them better placed to issue updates.

yeah, they should not have promised updates when they will selling the units
that is just so wrong..
well this is way I'm waiting with buying untill the galaxy s is hacked or samsung changes its updating policy radical (or htc launches a better phone )
Will they dare to say that the 1-hummingbird-1GHz.ed and 512MB Ram.ed dosen't go behind 2.1 ? Hell No ! the MAGIC HAS IT , WHAT THE HELL ! and i BET it's gonna take on gingerbread clean as a whistle ! , just a thought , it's better than to get acer stream while they are about to release acer stream e
'Well .. atleast we get super cool hardware. On HTC you get less powerfull hardware plus poor to N/A support. HTC promised an update to HTC Hero since december 2009.
Let's hope that Galaxy S gains a lot of atention here

Wowsers! They certainly were ahead of their time!
Let us just face it. The Galaxy S will get an update to 2.2, that much is pretty clear even in face of the Behold 2 incident. Beyond that, there are no promises, though I wouldn't rule out gingerbread just yet.
It probably depends on the sales, and Samsung is putting a lot more effort into the Galaxy S than its two brethren. Not just in terms of hardware, but also in software and marketing.
If it gets gingerbread, no doubt I would be happy. If it doesn't, I would still be disappointed, but I wouldn't pick up torch and pitchfork. Instead, I'd just take a look if e.g. Leshak was busy on this device...

Where Can I Update mY sAMSUNG bEHOLD 2 FROM 1.5 TO 1.6?
Where Can I Update mY sAMSUNG bEHOLD 2 FROM 1.5 TO 1.6? plz help
Hey guys, apologies in advance if I'm in the wrong place.
My gf is just about to upgrade her device and wants to go to a droid phone but doesn't want the extra cost to get a galaxy S, but she's determined to stay with a samsung device.
So, we checked out her options, and one offered by t-mo uk is the galaxy apollo. Now, I've never heard of that device, and its not listed here or wikipedia, but there are some reviews that say its running eclair and the model number i5801, which led me to this forum, thinking its a spicia variant(like how the galaxy s has the fascinate and so on)
So yeah, is the apollo an updated spicia or a cut down galaxy S or what ? And how comes no-one seems to be talking about the device. The reviews seem to indicate that it would have launched in the past couple of months but apparently to no great interest.
So yes... I figure that someone here will know what this device actually is and if there is anyone developing for it, or if its just a flash in the pan that isn't worth investing in.
Cheers guys, sorry for rambling!

well it's better than the spica that it has a radio,
and lesser than the spica that it has a very less resolution, and the processor is slower.
a friend of mine just bought it and after using the spica i was not impressed with the screen clarity when compared to the spica, but a good value for money phone, considering it costs around 12,000 INR.
also it has the samsung's touchwiz which i personally hate ...
I would suggest the Acer Liquid, one hell of a phone if the budget permits, with a lot of devs working on the liquid.

Ah, so its definitely not actually a Spicia device then... Anyone know if it is developed for at all ?
Don't get me started on exactly why she HAS to stay with a samsung device and HAS to stay on her current network. If I could get her a Spicia (i think they call it Portal here) then I would, but alas the choice is between Jet, Wave and Apollo. Since Jet and Wave are basically feature phones with pretensions, at least the Apollo gives her the app store, proper email and internet and well... all the reasons why droid is a good thing .
^ As of now I have not seen any development on the Apollo.
i have Sony X10, Galaxy S, and I5700
Please get Galaxy S, you won't regret it.
it's got one of the best touch screen (sesitivity and accuracy)
I got i5700 as a backup android for my GalaxyS and I can't stand the small screen and screen inacuracy,
worst is Sonyericsson X10.
it's a total garbage.
...or you would never be able to go back to "normal" smartphones!!!!
Seriously now: I am old enough to remember a world without cell phones so I have seen them appear, take hold and change our life. I have been an user almost from the beginning.
My cell phone "history" is: Motorola can't-remember-its-name, Ericsson T-10s, Ericsson T39m, Sony-Ericsson P800, HP iPaq rw6815, Samsung Omnia i9000, Samsung Galaxy S i9000, Samsung Galaxy SII, Samsung Galaxy Note.
I have never bought any one of them for any other reason than I thought them to be the overall best of their time, I am a very heavy poweruser, I DO use the FULL spectrum of the capabilities of these smartphones.
The Note? It's the smartphone I have always wanted, the one I was forever waiting for, the one I would have designed for myself.
I realize it's a niche phone but I do hope its is a niche that's gonna take hold and stay because I can't see myself EVER going back to "normal" smartphones.
Yes, I am that happy with the Note.
I will add to the thread as I keep on using it, meanwhile feel free to ask anything.
Some other background infos so you know where I am coming from: besides the ones listed above I have seen/tested many many other ones from friends/relatives/stores between and before purchases. I have also some background in IT.
I am from Italy and bought the phone from Germany.

It really is an awesome pice of kit, im 3 days in now, and find myself just starring at it in awe of its beauty

Some people are going deaf and they are blaming the Note. No offence meant
I can't agree more man..
This phone is frigging perfect.. When i had the galaxy s2 the ONLY thing that was laking was screen size..
When i saw the note announced basicaly a galaxy s2 with a 5.3inch super omled screen.. It was a no brainer...
Can't go back.. Now lets start a thread.. Offering a bounty for a O/C kernel..

Yes, there is so much I simply love about the phone.
Apart from the size I seriously did not think the Note could topple my SGSII.
I purchased the Note part being inquisitive and part because I love to have the latest tech.
Having now tried the Note for the past few days it just gets better and better.
Obviously size is it's biggest draw but I was pleasantly surprised at just how good the Camera is.
I love the Camera on my SGSII but the Note's Camera knocks the spots off of it, which is weird as both the SGSII & Note share the same Lens.
Just goes to show what happens when you have different software to drive the hardware.
Next up we have what I would consider as a 'major' improvement on GPS.
Again the SGSII is no slouch at getting a fix and maintaining your position but the Note just blows the SGSII out of the water.
Okay, this is helped by the fact it uses both the American and now Russian satellites and now we also have a barometer to aid in keeping the accuracy down to a pinpoint.
I'm looking forward to when the Developers Kit for the Barometer gets handed out in December. We should then start to see some Apps that utilize the Barometer to full use.
Nice one Samsung.... The Boy did good.
Totally agree! Best smartphone ever! Got it yesterday from CU.
+1!!!

Would really be interesting in hearing a comparison to the Dell Streak. I bought the Dell Streak 5 from someone selling their Give-Away phone and eventually bought the UNLOCKED to T-Mobile (with 3G) and was never happy with the Streak. I didn't mind the size at all. In fact I bought the Mugen Extended battery and that somehow felt better in my hand than without the battery. (Girl Hand) what I didn't like was the DELL .. Maybe what I didn't like about the Dell will be what I don't like about the Note .. PHONE CALLS. Not it being to big, but getting to the dialer to hang up always gave me fits .. It isn't easy to use like the iPhone. I like the iPhone for calls and the other for everything else. Always struggled with phone calls on the Dell Streak. I will carry both with me .. my iPhone and my Note. If I am just running out to the store I will bring my iPhone .. I use Google Voice I think it is called, it rings all my phones when I have a call. I wish it worked for texting also. (ramble-ramble)
I have my alarm on my note set to I'm sexy and I know by LMFAO and its so fitting.

Have you tried calling with a headset? That seems to be where the reports of sound quality are coming from. Would love some confirmation of this...
Well, might not seem very legit, to post here about that matter, but after like 3 years with my Hero, and since second one part of this community, i feel the need to say goodbye to all loyal Hero owners. The reason i say goodbye, is because i upgraded to Galaxy SII , but i will keep my hero as exhibit in my room!
Cheers guys!
So long friend, I had my hero tucked away, have since used an iphone, galaxy s2 as well, I only left my galaxy s2 last week for the nexus, so lost ability, to move around with my 25gig plus music collection, as sadly the nexus only has 16gig, so hv had to come back to my hero, and it still breathes.
Thanks and Hello
I have had my Hero since the week it was launched in the NL great phone was looking to replace it but can not find anything as small, neat and well built.
Was running a MoDaCo ROM for almost 2 years just updated to EleLinux 7.2 thanks guys it is like have a whole new phone.
So sorted for another couple of years.
I am still hanging on with my hero.
I will also say goodbye to my Hero
I am thinking of "upgrading" my Hero for a Samsung Galaxy S II, as well.
I am tired of missing calls event with stock ROMs. Besides, I need for CPU power than the Hero has to offer.
This doesn't mean I am disappointed with my Hero. It's a great phone, but it already past its time...
Here in Australia a retailer is offering the Galaxy S2 for under $400 and I must admit, I've been interested.
I just installed the Hero ICS 4.0.3 ROM today and I'm pleasantly surprised with what the phone is still capable of, despite it being terribly 'old hat' now.
Does the Galaxy S2 have any shortcomings? Still very much considering it for the money.
