My TyTN arrived on 8/9. I have a 2GB microSD card.
General
It's serial number is HT628.
The kbd backlight timeout on this device is 30 seconds . This one only has a detent on the right side. The caps lock mode is different: you now have to hit <alt>CAPS to lock caps mode. In fact, this is graphically displayed by showing the "Caps" function in blue on the Shift key. Doing another <alt>CAPS disables. Locking Alt mode still requires a double press on the blue dot key, but now its disabled by pressing the blue dot again once.
I have not tested UMTS since its not available in my area yet.
Processor Speed-wise, it feels about the same as my 8125 overclocked to 240mhz
I set up exchange direct push with no problems. Vibrate on new mail alert works just fine when the device is in powersave mode.
I have not been successful at enabling the Edge Icon using the known reghack. I also tried installing the Cingular EdgeIconEnable cab from the extrom and this had no effect either. However, speed comparisons between the TyTN and my 8125 produced startling results. Using www.2wire.com, my 8125 turned in 50-70 KB/sec. The TyTN never dropped below 100KB/sec in 5 successive tests. In fact, one test ran 294KB/sec  I didn't think edge ran that fast.... Nevertheless, the Edge issue is icon only. The performance of this device on Edge networks is better than my wizard by about 2X.
WiFi connects well and switches smoothly from GPRS.
Bluetooth
This device set up perfectly with my BMW bluetooth handsfree system. All contacts were downloaded correctly and connect time is very fast
This device set up perfectly with my ThinkOutside bluetooth keyboard. I used the latest kbd driver available on think outside's website. However, if my TyTN is in landscape mode and it enters powersave mode, portrait mode is re-selected when I exit powersave mode. This is a bit of a PITA if I've got the TyTN on the keyboard stand....
A2DP
I'm testing with the HP iPAQ Bluetooth stereo headphones, also sold by Logitech. This device was one of the best of all devices tested on the HTC Wizard btw.
Where do I start.... My current impression is: not ready for prime time. I'm thinking of installing the A2DP cab from the Torando hack as it loads different versions that may have a positive effect on functionality.
I applied all the reghacks suggested and still get breakups.
A2DP stops working if you place the TyTN in powersave mode by tapping the power button
After playing for a while, I actually lose my ability to use the digizer. Taps aren't recognized. Fixing this is touch and go without resetting. I am generally able to go into powersave mode then return. However, the audio stream becomes so distorted when I do this that I have to kill TCPMP then shut off/turn on my headset again.... Major PITA!
WMP doesn't even recognize the headset and still plays through the speakers. It will completely lock up my TyTN if I pair my headset while its playing music.
Everything eventually slows to a crawl when A2DP is active. Something is using up more and more of the processor and this may have some bearing on the breakup issue because interestingly, when you first start using A2DP, everything is fine; it just degrades slowly over time and eventually even trashes the digitizer.
edit: I installed the dll's and associated cert from the Tornado A2DP project and these had no impact on performance. In fact they may have made performance a little worse. I also tweaked the registry settings to match the Tornado project and these had no effect either. What seems to have worked the best so far is tweaking the Priority256 settings of the bluetooth and WAVE processes to lower values (somewhat counter intuitive). More on this later if I find these settings are significant to a successful tweak. My gut feeling is that they are not and that the real issue lies elsewhere.
Applications
Spb Pocket plus installed with no issues
Spb Backup installed with no issues
Sbp Time throws a SpbTimeNotify.exe execution error on startup. Usually auto-timezones is the culprit here. However, the timezone page reghack didn't enable the timezone page in phone settings.
Novii Remote appears to work just fine (although, with IR on the bottom instead of the side I'll need to re-work all my setups). IR range is dismal though, about 1 meter max vs. my 8125 which easily did 4-5 meters. Bummer here
My SipChange app works just fine (naturally)
Initial Conclusions
As a business device, this thing is rock solid. Push email works great and the jog dial makes one-handed use much more possible. The faster Edge processing makes data retrieval better even if you don't have a UMTS signal.
The good stuff isn't working though. There's a major bug in the A2DP implementation. Some process slowly eats up processor cycles when its running until the entire device slows to a crawl. I'll keep working on this.
It took all day to wear down the battery. On GSM, at least, this device seems to have the same battery life as my 8125. I'm also thinking this might use the same battery as the CDMA Apache. If so, there's drop in replacements that add more capacity. I'll be checking into this too...
More posts to follow....
sleuth,
Thanks for the post. I'm using the 8125 currently on T-mobiles network. I consistently get Edge speeds of 70 to 124 kpbs using www.dslreports.com. I tried the www.2wire.com and it was even faster (134 kbs). Though I have measured speeds with other services, it is unusual. Please try the speed test on dslreports.
I also find it odd that the A2dp isn't working. Have you tried the I-Phono, Motorola, or Jabra stereo headsets. I thought they had better reviews?
Thanks again for the heads up. I may wait a bit before getting the TyTN. I've also considered getting an Apache which I've tested between 300 and 700 kpbs on the Verizon network.
Keep in mind how I did the Edge test: I put my SIM in my TyTN and did 5 successive tests. Then I put the SIM in my 8125 and did 5 tests. Thus I compared the performance of the two devices with the exact same tower layout/signal strength. My TyTN operated, on average, about twice as fast in this test. Now I know that in the Chicago area, I consistantly got better than 100KB/sec out of my 8125 too so this test indicates the TyTN's ability to achieve the same high thruput in conditions where my 8125 (running AKU2.3 and the 02.25.11 Radio ROM) didn't.
DSLReports tests with Cingular 3G
All of these were at 9:20 PM EDT and using the wireless.cingular.com proxy server.
Test 1: 839 kb/s
Test 2: 915 kb/s
Test 3: 929 kb/s
Test 4: 900 kb/s
Test 5: 894 kb/s
Avg for Test: 895.4 kb/s
At other times, I have seen as high as 1.2 Mb/s.
hjkl;' why no delete?
Update:
I have bad "." and uparrow keys. They only work if I press them really hard. I am exchanging this TyTN for a new one because of this.
In general, UMTS/HSDPA speeds and the ability to simultaneously handle voice/data is the only reason to upgrade from a Wizard IMHO. I believe that the A2DP issue will eventually be fixed, but for now you must be prepared to trade A2DP for high speed data.

I've got to say this: lowering the priority256 value of the WAVE process sure does improve things. I made it 255 and the btaudio driver 254 and its the best I've had it. Damn near usable. There may be other issues with the WAVE driver priority being so low though like stuttering notifications.
However, after 5 minutes or so, the problem slowley builds up until its bad again. This leads me to believe that there are two problems. One having to do with processor slowly being eaten up by an unknown process and the other having to do with priority interactions between the wave and bt audio drivers. If you want to play with the relevant priority256 values yourself, here's the values:
HKLM/Drivers/BuiltIn/BtA2dpSnd/Priority256 = 254
HKLM/Drivers/Builtin/WaveDev/Priority256 = 255
The system seems to work best if the btaudio driver has a higher priority than the wave driver. Priorities are higher if their Priority256 values are lower btw.
I'm still working to understand what is slowley eating the processor. Has anybody here seen a task manager that shows %proc utilization by process like the Windows Taskmanager does?

goestoeleven,
Thanks for the report. Those speeds are amazing. They are similar to the EVDO speeds of the Apche on the Sprint and Verizon networks.
I may just have to give my son the wizard and go for this phone.
sleuth,
Have you tried the zokie a2dp .cab? It worked well adding a2dp to wizards which had ROMs without a2dp.
I'm sure a future ROM will cure any a2dp or other software problem I'd the phone is adopted widely which it will be.
Sleuth255, have you tried this Taskmanager from buzzdev http://buzzdev.net/component/option...view/id,18571/catid,27/limit,15/limitstart,0/
looks perfect. Tks!
Hey Sleuth you made any progress with the A2DP yet?
Great notes btw!
Can someone try these reg settings and report what they find? I applied them and did a quick test and didnt have any skips. But i'm at work and my battery is in the red (charged 2 days ago) so i cant test it extensively and be without a phone till i get to a charger.

I'm waiting for my replacement TyTN. s/b late next week I'm hoping, then I can get back on it.
Great! Out of curiosity I didnt see you mention anywhere that you had to send it back... what for?
The period and uparrow keys wouldn't work with normal pressure and the camera flash was inoperative: turning on the flash instead seemed to just short out the screen backlight.
Regarding the replacement of my TyTN...
My online supplier, www.phonesource-usa.com hasn't yet responded to any of my emails and phone calls into the status of my replacement. The device was returned within their 3 day exchange policy period and they received it on the morning of 8/18. I'm not concerned about this yet, however I will carefully document my ongoing experience, either good or bad here with regards to this online seller as well as with the replacement process here in the US for the TyTN itself.
Interestingly, phonesource-usa also no longer offers the TyTN on their website. This may be because they are out of stock and may very likely be having some impact on my replacement.
edit:
Christian from phonesource-usa got back to me today and they are indeed waiting on their next shipment of TyTNs. Apparantly there's also some issues with email correspondance and his earlier replies didn't reach me. At any rate, he's hoping that my replacement TyTN will be in my hands next week. Then I can start playing around again. I live for this btw.
Sleuth255 I also bought from phonesource and sent him an email on Saturday and havent heard anything back. Others though seem to have had good results with him so keep trying to contact him. Keep us updated on how things work out.
@efjay: see the edit to my post above yours. Christian at phonesource seems to be having issues with email deliveries. I did an explicit accept to my Spam filter on him and his reply got right through. Maybe a spam filter has locked into his address for some reason.
Thanks Sleuth255 for the info. I will probably try again later today.
Hi guys,
is possible that the shift wifi is power-less than others notebooks?
i explain, i've a 20mb connection at home and a wi-fi zyxel router, i connect to it my shift and also my asus g1s. when i download something from internet my asus download approximately from 1,5mb to 1,8 per second. and is a good thing. If i download the same thing from shift it don't go beyond 800kb. i've never seen a download like on asus.
This have sense? don't know why.. is not a big problem, but is courios.
have same here,
At home my con.speed is 1Mbit. Slow!
At work is normal 54...
I guess it's wireless router that is the problem. (Mine USR, has more problems...)
I get this too.
I can get 17m/bit on my PC which uses a wireless card, 8-10m/bit on my daughters HP laptop and 4-5m/bit on the Shift.
You have to remeber the specification of the device can also have a bearing on the results. My Core2duo 3.6ghz, with 2gb of highly overclocked RAM, RAID0 Raptors and IP35 Motherboard, will ultimately process download speed faster than the Shift would. Plug a P2 450mhz based machine with a 8gb hard drive and 128mb RAM into a wireless network, believe me, you won't get tremendously fast downloads!!!
Performance issue here too :
Using a Netgear WNR854T and I can see the Wi-Fi connection switching constantly from 54 Mbits/s to 11 Mbits/s. Getting really low data rates...
Yep, on the Shift I'm on about half to a third of what I get on my Presario (true d/l speed vs connection speed). In fact depending on 3G performance I can get better d/l speeds that way...
I find in general wireless strength to be sub par on the Shift. My HX4700 PPC has better range and speed than the Shift. Because I use the shift to mainly just surf pages it isn't an issue...but d/l'ing large files in emails is a pain.
While we're discussing wireless on the Shift, is getting it to work under SnapVue a priority in the project? I see that and the SD card as the 2 key issues (for me anyhow)...another donation coming to help with these elements and as thanks for work to date.
my wifi works fine, seems to work better than on some other devices i have

wifi isn't a priority because the driver doesn't even exist for WM6. will have to recompile CE5 one if that one is working at all.
so that'll be a big pita
also, wifi will only work if SD works.

Thanks- SD card working would be a big bonus indeed...I got about 7 meg left on Snap Vue...and with no calendar sync'd...
I guess the only reason why I mentioned WiFi (apart from my naivety about drivers etc) was the duopoly we exist in here in NEw Zealand means 3g/HSDPA data costs are horrific. Try $40 for 200meg (yes, meg) a month! Vodafone have been known to say that New Zealand is their most profitable country on the planet (read "most ripped off"). And if fact the news today talked about our commerce commision bashing them around for lying about their cheap rates to an audit group...it p!sses me off to no end, but what am I gonna do?
Anyway's look forward to further Shift developments.
I have to review my initial comments. Last night I had very fast speeds in spite of the less than stellar reception showing for the strength...so I suspect the wireless strength shows as being less but actual impact on speed might be minimal....
First I apologize if this has been covered in another post - I searched but couldn't find and if so a redirect would be appreciated.
I'm trying to determine just how fast data can be pushed through the phone and I've run into some problems.
I'm trying to use speedtest.net to do this and it was working with the stock ROM but since I've been trying different ROMs (3 of them in fact) I always get the error "Missing License Key" in he Speedtest.net window.
Anyone have any idea how to fix this?
Since that one doesn't work I've been using the Speedtest.net mini. That at least gives me up and download speeds.
But I've also found that whne I connect to the internet with WiFi the speeds are almost slower than a decent H connection.
It's rare that I get over 3 down /1.5 up on a WiFi N connection that has 20+Mbit Comcast connection behind it.
Here I'd just like to confirm if everybody else is seeing the same thing:
What dl/ul speeds are your seeing with your HD2 connected to a fast wireless router?
On the stock ROM it wasn't much higher than the 3G.
Not for me, I usually get 13-14 Mbps down/ 50 kBps (stupid cable upload speeds) up on wifi and around 1.8 Mbps down/ 1.5 Mbps up on HSXPA/UMTS.
I personally have very little faith in the reliability of numbers from speedtest.net
Try testing this way...use IE instead of opera, and go to www.speakeasy.net/speedtest (it wont run in opera but will in IE). When I use that method while connected to my home wifi, I get the exact same speed my desktop gets using the same dsl source (just a hair over 5MB down), which my 3g connection here has yet to match...usually caps out at around 3MB or so.
I've seen the same behaviour as the OP.
My Wi-fi speeds are slower than my HSPA speeds.
I had same issue as well. I had bsb tweaks installed. I disabled the wifi n tweak. after that both my 3g and wifi speeds went up. Re-enabled the tweak to see if speeds would be reduced and this time only the wifi speeds increased again. tweak must of been causing some sort of issue with the 3g and wifi speeds. Try disabling it, soft reset and than re-enable the tweak. Hopefully it works for you as it did for me.

Which ROM are you using and how much faster is it? Do you see a large speed difference with a different ROM between a fast WiFi and 3g/h?
The only real difference I noticed between the stock and 3 other ROMS I've installed so far is that I wasted a long time trying to get WiFi working in KAOS but never could. I was able to get a connection but the client never reported an IP address. Turns out the ROM I was using was not specifically for the TMOUS HD2 so maybe that was the cause.

My situation is reversed; the cable manages 3mb up on the PC but the 3G/H is almost always much slower on upload than download.

Thanks, that was an excellent suggestion; I hadn't tried this particular site before and while it uses the same data as speedtest.net it also allows a specific destination and works with IE.
In random testing on WiFi I got around 7-8Mb down, 3 Mb up. While driving around the local area I got 5 bars from two different towers and found an average 1.0Mb dl, 0.8Mb up, and that was pretty constant whether moving or stopped.
I've also noticed in general that the "H" only appears whenever data is actually being transferred (sounds like our back-end hasn't been upgraded). Right now I can get neither the speedtest.net nor the mini version to work - the windows just stay white.
I'll keep trying both of them to compare over the next few weeks but I think the biggest part of the problem is Adobe Flash. There is a reason why Apple doesn't support them and I don't think it's all political like Adobe would have us believe.
I've also done some more experimenting with mobilespeedtest.com as well as general testing over the past few days.
Mobile speed test shows that IE seems to be faster/more stable than Opera - by probably 5 to 20%. While the absolute numbers had alot of variability, Opera was unable to complete the 5 MB and 7 MB tests at all; the browser window just remained blank.
The other thing to throw in here while trying to clean up the phone I found the post about doing a hard reset and that also seemed to help. I don't have any solid data but I would certainly hard reset it again and recommend it to anyone that has changed ROMS much or done a lot of installing/deinstalling of cabs.

That certainly jibes with what I found on the stock ROM using speedtest.net.

I don't have BSB tweaks installed currently but I performed the WirelessN tweak in the registry. Based on what you've said here I went back and switched it off, did a soft reset, tested and then back on and retested, and found no dramatic difference between any of them. What I found was a lot of variability between the tests in the same setting - even one right after the other. (I would probably do well to review the wireless router settings to see if I can up the data throughput rate.)
To compare I checked a notebook using N located at about the same distance from the router and got speeds a little (5-10%) faster than on the phone (-hardwired into the router I get 25Mbps down). This tells me the phone is as optimized as it's going to be going through my router.
So on the phone I see final scores of about 7-8Mbps down, 2-3 up, with spikes over 10 Mbps down and 4 up during the tests.
Deeted - error post
I tried "mobilespeedtest.com" and get around 1100-1300 kbps on wifi and the same or more when wifi off and using t-mobile (with "H" showing, not 3g).
speakeasy/speedtest on wifi 3421 kbps, off wifi , 3569 kbps (3.57mbps)

No, Not on the Stock ROM.
Like Opera Mini and Skyfire, I think Opera Mobile 10 goes through an external server. One cannot get an accurate speed test that way. Use Opera 9, or better IE, as it works with flash speed tests as well, not only the mobile ones.
I am kinda having some crazy stuff going on. First does anyone have a good website to check download speeds? I am using I.dslr.net/tinyspeedtest.HTML.
I pick the 3G test I get about 300-600 Kbps for a download speed. The crazy thing is if I turn on my wifi, but DO NOT CONNECT to a network I get 1600-1800 Kbps. I have tested and retested many times no matter what if I have the wifi turned on I always get a faster speed. I know I am not connected to a network because A. When I do connect to my home wireless I get about 4000 Kbps. B. I have tested this when there are no networks around.
I guess cool if I am really getting those speeds which it looks like I am because even the latency probes are fast, my concern is having the wifi on all the time will eat up my battery even more.
So I would like some feed back on what others are using to do speed tests and also does this happen to anyone else?
I am on joshes fast and stable rom.

Thanks
I use www.speakeasy.net/speedtest for that...it only works in IE (not opera, haven't tested it in skyfire), but does a great job.
I personally dont know how, i cam across a post saying how to, ill look it up. Recently ive been busy running android on the hd2
Hello. First, great forum- I can feel the love, as well as the collective genius at work here. It's refreshing to find a forum where people actually know their sh*t on a real, technologically advanced level. It's relieving as well, considering the headache that my new G2 is causing... as follows:
This is a Sprint device and I am still within the time frame to return if a resolution is not found.
Issue:
1.) While wi-fi remains connected (doesn't drop), it is terribly slow, averaging .8 - 3 mbps. Whereas, other Samsung android devices are averaging 15-20 mbps. Internet is cable, and I have reset the modem without experiencing any performance increase. (technicolor TC8305C, bgn)
2.) 4g is no better, averaging a mind boggling .5 mbps. (Don't even get me started on 3g- .1-.3 mbps)
3.) If 4g is even able to connect, which is rare... it disappears and and is nowhere to be found, or be (re) enabled.
Attempted (unsuccessful resolutions):
1.) Performed Sprint recommended troubleshooting techniques:
a.) updated profile
b.) soft reset(s)
c.) hard resets- multiple
2.) contacted customer care: received "refreshers," and was walked through numerous settings and performed various resets.
Recommended CC resolution: return device for exchange.
3.) Sprint store attempted to identify problem, and in the process found that their demo, along with employee handsets (G2) as well as new unboxed versions had the same problem. They offered to switch to an S4 or Nexus5 for free, or wait a couple days to see if the LG rep could offer a fix.
(further) Resolution: pending
Here's the deal- I think we can all agree that this phone is kick ass. Therefore, I would rather not switch, as I enjoy the experience it provides, as well as the satisfaction of getting to really bond with a device when troubleshooting them. Though, this phone seems to be pretty 'buggy,' and while I don't mind tinkering with computing devices (been seeing the blue screen since win '95), I'm not sure I want to be dealing with the potential hassle with a device we all rely on day in and day out to be our life blood... plus, just because I don't see/haven't experienced the other issues others have, doesn't mean they won't potentially manifest down the road. :/ Maybe the Nexus 5 is the better choice... but it seems like cost cutting has taken place in a couple areas- battery (2300), and the camera. Almost like the G2 is the flagship and the other is mildly scaled down in certain aspects even though the end result is compelling for both.
Please know that I am scouring middle earth low and wide for resolutions, and have not composed this post without first looking and becoming familiar with other peoples similiar experiences. I will continue to fact find, and I apologize for not reading all related threads before posting, but time is of the nigh, as I am still within a time frame to return in case the problem is inherent to this specific device (a lemon). Plus, I don't quite understand everything you're talking about, as I've never had/chosen to dig that deep into the obscure settings and techniques I've seen listed (and also because I JUST got it) Hence, the user name- g2 n00b.
So thank you in advance for your time in helping with this. It is both greatly appreciated, and not without gratitude on my part. Also, I hope I displayed proper educate by formating this post in a manner which is easy to sort through. K. let the trouble shooting begin.
also, to the mods- sorry if this is thread/issue has already been covered elsewhere. I also posted this issue on another board and nobody had heard of this problem, so I am fairly confident that i may be justified in having poted this. However, feel free to delete/lock/merge/ if I just didn't see it.. but please provide the link so I can further fact find, because I'm stumped. Thanks.
I just did a speedtest on mine (Also on Sprint) using Wifi.
Same speeds I get on my PC.
It's an oddball suggestion but did you disable the Sprint connection optimizer?
Optimizer enabled. Though, I have tried disabling it and running diagnostics to no effect- doesn't matter what I do, it still won't exceed 3mbps, unless I am lucky enough to receive 4g in certain areas.. then it's a 'blazing' 3.5mbps, but usually .8. I have msl code and have adjusted band priorities and still no difference there, including ##72786 to reset default connections to make sure nothing was adversely affected after investigating the issue.
I'm really bummed. I love this phone. I feel like everything I felt I was missing in the S3/S4 are present here. Love the interface, form factor and all of the settings. Maybe I should take Sprint up on there offer to get an S4 a Nexus 5, but I REALLY don't want to go back to caveman battery hog status on the S4 and have to purchase a backup. I imagine the N5 is more efficient in this area, but it still has a 2300 battery vs 3000 in the G2. Needless to say, I'm frustrated and confused.. but often times, such is life.
Any thoughts on the N5, or suggestions to further trouble shoot are greatly appreciated and welcome?
I have disable the connection optimizer and have done this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47423537&postcount=1
The only other idea I have is hit up a coffee shop and due a speed test on their wifi.
The sprint stores by me have crappy wifi speed hence the coffee shop.
I seem to have mostly resolved the issue. I switched channels and encryption protocol. Apparently, my g2 didn't appreciate AES very much. Has anyone else seen performance differences with their device when comparing AES to TKIP? If so, are they drastic? I would think AES would be fine with the g2, considering how advanced it is. I consider it to be somewhat unfortunate if I am forced to select TKIP just so I can get a decent connection. That is, unless of course there are settings I can alter in the ##data# screen that can make better use of this encryption. Is there anything I can do now that I have narrowed down the culprit?

I seem to have mostly resolved the issue. I switched channels and encryption protocol. Apparently, my g2 didn't appreciate AES very much. What wireless router are you using? I use a D-Link at home and my G2 kept connecting and disconnecting repeatedly. I was able to fix the problem by updating the router's firmware to the latest version. We've never had any problems with other wifi devices on our router, so it seems the G2 has some unique peculiarities WRT wifi.
I'm running AES with no issues, but noticed following.
LG (Sprint) connects first with a slow 72mbps and switches after a while to a faster speed of 433mbps
I have an Asus Router RT-AC66R, if I play around on the router with Frequencies or the wireless mode, LG would go down to a slow speed.
Don't have Optimizer enabled.
I suspect your problem is a router problem and not the phone.
