TouchScene Wallpapers, Nothing yet - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV Themes and Apps

So VGA screen, high resolution clear crisp graphics, is that all
I hope not, of course i changed the name around but i got the idea from vista dreamscene which has the animated wallpaper. Not sure if it is or will ever be implemented but i thought the idea would be of some discussion. Or even a wallpaper that when our phone is tilted in a certain direction the image sort of shifts. Basically we would view the same image but from a different angle by taking use of the sensors.
OF COURSE it would be a battery hog, so we dont need posts about that

That sound like a great idea, hope someone can do it

I hope so too

yeah.. a great idea... But for me is enough an animated gif as background
sigh...

How cool would it be to have an invisible phone?

I was playing with my phone today and was thinking. Bad. Bad things happen when I think.
How hard would it be to create a program that uses the phone's camera as the background? In essence, making the phone "invisible" in that you can see things behind it while still staring intently at the screen.
Just wondering. It's useless, and probably will kill the battery faster than streaming youtube at full brightness while using the phone to calculate the cure for cancer. But I think it would be a great conversation piece.
it sounds like a cool idea... have the background of the today screen as the camera and over that icons... drains battery but could use it for a few min /day just for the heck of it
Eh?
I may be missing something here, but how would that work? Most of the time I use my phone it is either in my hand or flat on a desk - either way the very best you would see is a blurry mass and most of the time you would see only black.
Besides, how is this making the phone 'invisible'?
Have I lost my child-like sense of wonder...??
It'd be a show piece. Not for full-time use.
And it would be "invisible" because it would display whatever is on the other side, giving the illusion of nothing being in the middle.
iphone people had a competition to see who would have the best hidden iphone. Very fun.
like this, but with 100% less blue screen editing, and 100% more on-the-fly image placement.

why not just start your camera and hide OSD infos
Please don't do anything with this idea. People all over the world will lose their phones and never find them again!
Well, we would have several problems :
- first the camera is not really displaying what we want. It's zoomed, just because the camera is not where we are. This means there is an "offset" between what we would see if it was really invisible, and what the camera shows.
- second, we would need some kind of head tracking. Because we would need the pocket pc to display what's around it according to our "angle of view". To do so, we would also need a camera able to move. And then, we would need a program that distorts the image according to our position.
So, it sounds to me like it's not impossible, but quite hard, especially to have it working "on the fly".
I hope you understand what I mean.
Anyway, I would love to have such a feature on my phone !

As for hiding osd in the camera... would be alright, but I want be able to click things in my spb today plugin.
this is kind of on the same lines as that internet fad years ago where people would take a picture of the background behind their laptop and put it as their desktop background on the laptop.. then take a picture of the whole effect.. in essence, a see through desktop

Wow nice application man... i would love to hav it too but i see taht nobody posted any reponse to your request Hope we both have mor luck son.
Its fake sorry guys! he "made" it look like that with some type of photoshop program
I manage to get my phone to do something a little like that once.
I tried to take a photo with the sportsfunction and the cameraapplication shutted down, but the camera was still on.
So some colors where turned in to what the camera sees.
Its like in windows, if you try to take a screenshot of a movie, you'll only get a specific color, and thats the color windows use for mapping videos over.
I did'nt manage to find out what color that reacted as the camera mapping on the phone, but i know that it should be possible to find out.

[TIP]Manilla 2D and Homescreen Images lose quality?

Ok, I'm sure others have noticed this, but I just want to try and get to the bottom of this because I don't think anyone has gotten it right (Or so I think).
I know my way around Photoshop and all, so I figured I'd make my own home screens for my WM6 HTC Touch. What I found out is that normal images lose quality when I put them on the device. This has been the same with all the skins being made for Manilla 2D. I know because I compared a bunch of the images to the original skin images extracted from the Opal. So, what it comes down to is: How do these guys at Windows/HTC save their images, that's different from the way we're doing it? Anyone know? I'm sure SOMEone has figured this out.
You probably can't notice the difference in the green image, which was apparently taken from the Diamond and downsized; however, when it is on the device, it looks worse:
EDIT: Ok, so the issue HAS been resolved!
Here's what's up:
1. When you save images for your pocket PC, they DO have to be in a loss less format, such as .png or .bmp... This goes for Homescreen backgrounds as well, so when you save a picture off your phone camera, it'll be pixelation by default because they're usually in .jpeg format.
2. When you save images in Photoshop, in a format like .png. Save them as Interlaced images, or they'll come out crappy on the device.
3. If you are using the color overlay feature in Photoshop to, say, change the color of the image, There will be pixelation if there are any gradients in the picture. Most of the images in the Manilla 2D theme files have gradients, so almost all of them result in pixelation. What you have to do for those is: Zoom in and use the Blur tool (Smart Blur filter on larger images.) to smooth out the pixelation!
4. When you make Themes for Manilla 2D Customizer, and zip the file for the .m2dct format. Don't make the compression higher that normal. This MIGHT also cause some changes. Though, I haven't tested this.
Hope this works for other people, and if someone can contribute anything else, it would also be appreciated.
What do you mean?
If you are setting it as the wallpaper, make sure it is all the way transparent (not opaque).
And remember that the HTC Touch is QVGA, not VGA as the Diamond.
Haha, you misunderstood me. I know that the image is QVGA and I know how to set the wallpaper. This isn't about the opacity of the wallpaper. It's about the quality of the image. The image seems to become lower quality when it is set as a wallpaper. Heck, it becomes lower quality before even transferring it, I think. The same happens when you save it in a theme file for Manila 2d customizer. I'll give you an example of what I'm talking about:
When I simply open the above blue image in Photoshop and, without doing anything, just save it. The original size of the image is 23.9KB, but after resaving it, it is 17.8KB. Something was lost, don't you think?

Don't forget that .jpg isn't a lossless format like .png or .bmp. EVERYtime you save a .jpg the quality will drop UNLESS you specifically tell Photoshop to keep it at 100% quality. Also you have to realize that the hardware on your phone isn't as powerful as the hardware on your pc so it makes sence that it wouldn't look exactly how it does on the pc.

Well, the images are in .png format. : D
And it's not a matter of the pc having better hardware here, because the images from the original skin view just fine on the device.
The images seem fine on PC, but I noticed that Windows Vista's Image Viewer(Photo Gallery) views the image as our devices would view it. There's certain type of information in the image that our devices can't read, so the image quality is worse when you view them on there.
No ideas, eh?

Yup, i think it IS some sort of compression by Photoshop, but which software doesn't do this compression? THAT's what I'm trying to figure out here. I think this would help a bunch of us make better homescreens and skins. : D

I thought you were possibly having a problem rendering gradients in 24 bit images on the 16 bit display. This appears to be a different issue, though. Are you sure that interlacing the images helps?
well, i tried it myself by making a theme out of it, and it worked.

Touchflo Wallpaper Comes Out Blurry

Hi all,
I decided to set a custom wallpaper today on my HTC Touch HD and found one
that was 800x480 so it would fit perfectly on the screen. When I look at the
picture through the file explorer, it looks sharp and exactly what it looked like
on my PC, but when I set it as a wallpaper using the Settings tab
in Touchflo3D, it comes out very blurry. It's almost a low-res version of the
original image.
Is there any way to fix this problem.
Thank you
EDIT:
I opend another thread in the HD Touch sesction of the forum as I thought
I'd get more replies here. Could a moderator please remove my other thread

Not sure if this is related. I had a similar problem with my contacts images.
If I assigned contact photos in Outlook and then sync, the contact photos on my phone were low-res.
But if I assigned contact photos on your SD card directly to specific contacts they became hi-res thumbnails.
Were do you have your wallpaper saved?
I have my pictures saved in the Pictures Folders in the My Documents folder.
I don't understand why this would happen, just because it's stored in
internal memory.
Never-the-less I shall try what you said and see whether it works.
Just to make sure 800x480 is the correct resolution for wallpapers on the
HTC Touch HD isn't it?

Your problem is slightly different Spartan, If you synch with Outlook it will always down res your contact images. The trick is to add them via the people tab in manila. That keeps them high res.

Unfortunately Da11y, yours is a known issue right now where background images are converted to a lower resolution, allegedly to save on processing power! So a large image doesn't have to be rendered every time. I could see they woul;d put a cap on the image size, but not limiting it to less than the screens resolution! There is a thread about this somewhere. I'll try to dig it out.
Cheers ClownShoes
I find it kinda of silly that this restriction is in place. The Touch HD has got an
amazing screen and not being able to set wallpapers in the normal high-res
defies the point.
I hate having low-res wallpapers so at the time being have no option but to use
the default wallpaper

To be honest I sort of thought this and I had corrected my problem beforehand. Just wasn't sure if Da11y's problem was related and I knew someone like yourself would correct me anyhow
Im confused about this very same thing, it somehow converts the image to lower resolution (dpi). Isnt there some registry entry that can be manipulated to disable this "feature"?
The phone has more then enough power to render a wallpaper, why else call it HD if it isnt even able to render a simple wallpaper properly...
I know what you mean 0verseer. This problem is very annoying as all my
high-res wallpapers are coming out proper sh*t on my Touch HD when set

I tried what you said as well Fallen Spartan but it made no difference.
You would think HTC would provide an option to enable/disable high-res

As much as I love my Touch HD, there's so many little things that really
p*ss me off with it.
This is just one of the few. Hopefully someone comes up with a reg hack

I found that link guys http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=447785&highlight=wallpaper+lo+res
It appears it's a touchflo issue and a limitation of the way the graphics engine works.

[Wallpapers] Custom (480x800) Lock Screen Wallpapers!

If you're anything like me, you're able to appreciate precision...
Such as alignment, things being linear... or perhaps something just fitting on-screen, rather than causing obscure transparent affects on what is (by default) an otherwise beautifully designed, perfectly matched lock screen.
Now, after having said all of that... I'm sure most of you are wondering what I was just rambling about. Well, if you haven't discovered this already... then I suppose I'll elaborate. Once you have applied a lock screen wallpaper, it is then automatically rendered to fit the screen resolution of, "480x800"... which in turn causes your wallpaper quality to typically be compromised if the resolution isn't already EXACTLY that!
Also, you'll noticed that your "curtains" become faded and transparent. Which again, for someone like myself... I do NOT enjoy looking at my wallpapers through "curtains" or "slivers of glass".
DOWNLOAD LINKS:
1.) MegaUpload
2.) RapidShare
Here are a few examples of wallpapers I've adjusted to fit within the TOP AND BOTTOM CURTAINS... which have been fashioned with "black bars" to overlay the coverage areas of your curtains... SEE BELOW! MORE THAN 15 WALLPAPERS ARE INCLUDED!

Awesome, thanks man!! I'm still trying to learn why this is an issue on the HD2 as opposed to other 480x800 hardware, like my TP2, but it's great to see that people are finding ways around it
I noticed that at least one of the wallpapers you found and modified there (color flames) is one that I'd also stumbled across and cabbed up for the TP2 using HDWalls. I came across eseth.net they have a lot of high quality wallpapers customly designed for the HD2. I even used one of the ones I downloaded to make my girl some tigger walls for her phone. Good looking out guys!
I'll be making more if people are willing to put in requests for LOCK SCREEN "FITTED" wallpapers.
Better yet, if they provide the 480x800 .JPEG file they wish to shrink down, and have adjusted to fit in between the lock screen curtains... I'll post those as well.
I'll do some more wallpaper hunting tonight though...

Whoopsie, sorry 'bout the 'dis' Reign!
I did download yours too, I just happened to reply to phunkee's reply is all!
I am a glutton for pixel precision. For example, I play FFXI on PC. I play on a window, not full screen, so, accounting for the task bar, the title bar, and the window borders (2 px on either side when maximized) I take all that into consideration and modify the game's registry entries so that when the window is maximized, the screen is drawn to 1:1 ratio. I then set my fake AA (the game doesn't support AA, but you can set the 3D render independent from the window size, so I super-sample) to exactly twice the resolution of my window resolution.
Anyway, that long winded paragraph was to say that yeah, I appreciate pixel perfection and I love what you're doing here.
A little off topic, do you guys know what do do about Opera Mobile (both or either the installed version 9.7 and the downloadable 10.0). Neither draws the web-page to 1:1 on the 480x800 screen. With 9.7, you can pinch-zoom in very minuscule decrements/increments to get the page to be 1:1, but it clears as soon as you leave the page. On 10.0 there's absolutely nothing that can be done because pinch-to-zoom doesn't work and the preset percentage values are atrociously off.
Strangely, Opera Mini doesn't suffer this problem, so I find myself using it often as my main browser, but there are times when I need to use a "real" browser, for example, when a page has dynamic content.
Has anybody noticed this?
Ok, so I'm using HD Walls now, and i've done every step right, my only uncertainty is, in teh config file Im not sure which to select.
I know it's Sense 2.5. I'm using Energy's 21898 rom with co0kie's 1.7 apr 14th.
I get the wallpapers to show up in my HDwalls on my phone, and when i set wallpaper nothing changes, even after clearing out said registries.
i was wondering if any one here knows, i have asked in other threads, how i can get this image to be my background for my home screen and all other tabs. my lock screen/start menu background is fine. i also have a cab. file for this image but when i install it just the top and bottom task bars change to the pic. any help/ideas? i have US TMO HD2 stock. someone else had this issue, and tried to install the hdwallpaper patch but it didnt help. i myself have not tried the patch. thanks in advance.

Here are a few examples of wallpapers I've adjusted to fit within the TOP AND BOTTOM CURTAINS... which have been fashioned with "black bars" to overlay the coverage areas of your curtains... SEE BELOW! MORE THAN 15 WALLPAPERS ARE INCLUDED!

these look awesome. thanks for your contributions. two weeks ago, i thought about selling my hd2 to get a nexus one due to my love for android os. i'm actually liking win mo more and more. it can be just as customizable as the android OS as i'm slowly finding out.
Thanks for the praise folks...
However, I believe some of you are misunderstanding WHY exactly I created these wallpapers.
They are "curtain friendly" designs, referring to the wallpapers fitting within the physical curtain boundaries. NOT to be some kind of "background for all tabs", meaning that the wallpaper graphics I post are NOT even going to touch your task bar or soft key bar.
These are only created to fit within the boundaries of an unmodified lock screen.
Again, just a bump for those who sent me a PM.
Thanks for your interest.
Sorry for the spam though folks...
