Hi Michael, well obviously the 1gb is better than the 512mb I have both & as they are very new to the market, you gotta pay the price or wait & get them cheaper, but then there will be a 2gb, 5gb ................ :?:
I have just seen that there is the new 2GB MMC card now... it's ment to be the fastest Flash card in the world... faster then Compact flash and all the others...
Writes at about 18MB/s
Reads at about 22.5MB/s
does any one know if our XDA II's will beable to take advantage of the high speeds?

XDA IIi SD Card problems - is this true?

This site claims that there are problems with the sd card slot in the 2i - and the symptoms that they give seem very similar to the ones I am experiencing. Can anyone confirm or deny this? And if its true is there anyway of getting around it?
Thanks

as i long user of the 2i I can say without a doubt there is a problem with the sd cards as i suffered for over 3 months or more of pure frustration and almost throwing the thing away .
but in the end it was down to the sd card speed ,it doesn't really matter what size you have but it's the speed of the card at the moment i am using a 512 transcend 80X card and it has been running perfectly for the past 4 months or so without any problems .there have been plenty people who have now tried the transcend card and found it to be well 1 of the best so i would recomend you buying 1 of these asap ,if you do a google you should find a place selling 1 of these but just make sure it's has a speed of 80x or else you will have the same problems ..also if you wish to get a bigger card the 1meg works okas well
Hmm, I can't say I'm at all happy with that. I have now borrowed a 512mb card and magically all my problems disappear. its the same make and model as my 1gb card so I can't see its a brand issue.
Are o2 aware of the problem? If they are then I think they're breaking the law by continuing to sell the thing.
Does the problem exist with the 2s as well? If not I might go back to o2 and insist they swap it over...
Thanks for your reply
Hi.
I've had an XDA IIi for a few months and had lots of problems with the phone freezing (especially with tomtom 5). The problems got noticeably worse when using "turbo" mode too.
I emailed tomtom for help with navigator and the strange locking up. After a month, they replied to me and said that the pda must use 80x cards or faster... i bought an 150x 2Gb card and haven't looked back...
The phone can now do it all... i use ttn5 with traffic addon whilst driving and use pocket music to play mp3s at the same time and i'm still able to answer the phone to accept calls...
the only problem i've had with a 2Gb SD-Card is that i can ONLY read/write it in the XDA IIi - no other PDA will touch it and no card reader will recognise it.

What brand is your card?
Having already sprung for a 1Gb card I'd hate to have to spend out again becasue of inadequacies in the xda hardware... however if it was an upgrade to 2Gb I might be able to better justify it.
Perhaps this info about card speeds should be posted in the FAQ so that new users have at least some warning of the 2i's problems with SD...
mine is an "a-data" myflash 2gb from here: www.emartbuy.com
£91.65 inc VAT
hope this helps you!
Dan
I would just like to say thanks for this topic, the two problems i've had with the PDA2 (XDAIIi) since i got it earlier this year have been fixed by taking out my 60 speed 1gb sd card.

Maximum SD Card Size?

I am shopping for big SD Card with Xmas Bonus
I have searched but can't find any info on the maximum adressable memory for storage card slot or advanced specs to match cards, can anyone shed some light?
I had been using a 2gb card since I got my Universal in October and just today received my 4gb card in the mail. I transfered everything over (plus a lot more) including several programs that are installed to the storage card and it's been fine so far.
I have a 1GB card now, 4gb is the largest available at the moment, but we should be seeing 16 and 32 GB cards next year , look here:
http://www.sdcard.com/europe/TextPage.asp?Page=2
The universal must have a limit on adressable memory and I wondered where we would have to stop? Also what is the card speed, there are 133x and 150x around, is it worth getting the faster cards or what?

Dont bother, doesnt make a blind bit of difference to your PPC... only when transferring data to your desk/lap top... high speed cards are for high end digicams
philtech44 - now i understand why transfer takes longer through activesync to device than card reader many thanks
my 1GB card is an integral, cost £40 from local indie phone shop

4 GB Micro SD...Possible to use??

I use an 8525. Just noticed that a 4 GB Micro SD is now coming out. Before I buy one, does anyone know if it is possible to use these in the 8525, or will I need 3rd party software, or is there an update I can make??
I got a SanDisk 4Gb Micro SDHC card and it works fine in my SPV M3100 (HERM100) with Schaps 3.60a
Formatted capacity is about 3.8gb
Yes it will work as long as you are runing winmo 6. Next time do a quick google search for it (site:xda-developers.com what you are looking for goes here), this question comes up about once a month.

Bro I'm about to get one and just wanted to check,
did you have another memory stick before it?
does the phone slow down dramatically when you use it or is it only a slight slowdown ?
thanks in advance
works also fine with HERM300 and TNT 2.0 I'd say buy it
XDA Trion?
Hi, I went and purchased a Sandisk 4gb micro SD for my new 02 XDA Trion. Sadly the card will not show up on the phone.
The card works as I have tested it on my computer.
Do I have to install Winmo6 to get the card to work on this phone? Help please?

In short - yes.

6 GB
I 've just seen a 6 gb micro sd card advertised. Would this work too?
6GB should work with WM6. Looks like ship date is 10/06/2007 in the US
Some cooked ROMs might not have the sdhc support cuz it wasnt cooked in, but that would be stupid and it will usually be listed in the specs of the ROMs if it is or isnt.
If there is sdhc (hc = high capacity btw) then anything above 2 gb should work.

I have a Tmobile Vario 2, Tytn, flashed to the htc tytn wm6 rom...found it here and seemed the most official so i went for that one...so my question is, does any version of wm6 support the 4gb or is it specific cooked versions? thanks
