Hey all,
I recently backed up my G1 using Nandroid and wiped my phone clear. I don't want to restore to my backup, but I was curious how to open the files it creates on the SD card.
Basically, what I want to do is nab some data that Shazam saved (some song IDs) but I don't want to restore to the image. Any ideas?
Nevermind Just created a new backup of the fresh install and swapped over to the old one, got the info I needed and flashed back.

Perhaps a silly question, but are the nandroid files that are stored in the nandroid folder on the SD-card, the only files that nandroid needs to put back a back up?
I want to perform a second backup without loosing my first backup (taken just after rooting).

You can perform as many backups as you like
Each backup has a different name, do not overwrite the previous

Hello,
nandroid is a backup tool. It is run from recovery mode, and makes a copy of the internal memory of the phone and saves it on the SD-card. It can also backup the apps installed on the SD-card in the same manner. It is often used when flashing new roms to the phone, since it provides a means to fully restore the phone to the previous state.

So if i did a nandroid back up on my phone it would back up everything onto my sd card and then restore it to its original state (ie nothing).

Yes, the nandroid image on the SD card is an exact copy of the relevant parts of the phones internal storage, so when doing a restore everything will be back as it were before. If, however, you have apps installed on the SD card using Froyos apps2sd (which stores the applications on the ordinary fat32 partition of the SD card) those applications is not backed up. Nandroid includes functionality for backing up apps installed on a ext partition, though.
Personally I use Titanium backup to backup applications when I'm changing ROMs.

Does Nandroid overwite previously made backups, or will it make a new backup every time? In case of the latter, can you choose from recovery wich backup you want to restore?
(Before I flashed my Hero, I made a Nandroidbackup of the original ROM. I don't want risk loosing this backup when I make another Nandroidbackup.)

No, it doesn't overwrite the old backups. You can choose which image to restore.

This is probably a really dumb question but how do I use the backups I've created?
When I flash a ROM that I don't like and I try to restore to an earlier backup I've created it is not working. It either says something about the MD5sum or just aborts in general...
What process do I take in order to restore the phone to an earlier backup?
And better yet, if I install a new ROM and don't want to go through the process of installing all my apps again is there a way to just restore my files from a backup?
You can do an advanced restore and restore only data to get your apps, etc. back. There is also titanium backup that is great for backing up and restoring between roms (the only way to restore apps when using a different rom... restore data from one rom onto another can cause serious issues).
If you're getting MD5 sum errors, the backups are being corrupted. So unless your messing with them on your sdcard, then there may be some bad areas on that sdcard and it might be time for a new one.

Wait so in order to keep my apps I can go to advanced restore and restore only data but it could cause serious issues? So basically it is possible but risky?
and normally should my restore points flash just like a rom when I go to "Restore"? do I need to wipe everything before I restore?
I did copy and paste them onto my computer so I had them in two places... maybe that corrupted them. Anyways a new, bigger, faster SD card is in the mail so that's kind of a coincidence.
a restore in clockwork is an image restore, so everything in that partition will be wiped anyways.
hey guys so i just lost all my data in final fantasy iv because i did a series of reformats on my phone. however when i restored using titanium backup. it only gave me a restored file from an ooold backup eventho i clicked on backup ALL data.
do you think it is because when i factory reset to prepare for a new rom, it deletes my final fantasy data?
help please cuz i switch roms frequently but i hate the fact i lost my data

Did you have backup App Cache and backup External Data enabled with TiBu?

A week ago, I was flashing through different roms, and I decided to do a data reset through the stock recovery. What a mistake I had made. I lost ALL data on my internal SDCard. *facepalm* (thankfully, I had most of it backed up elsewhere, so it was really just a massive inconvenience).
Do you have an external SDcard inserted? I'm curious: It's possible that you were storing backups on your external for some time, and then somehow switch to internal storage for backups... and then the internal got wiped (reverting back to external)?

Is there a way to undo an overwrite on a file? I've overwritten a file on my sdcard in my S5 but realized I shouldn't have.....
It all started when my game data (Google Play game data) wasn't showing up properly....I selected the save location to be the device but when I started playing this afternoon all data was gone. Now in my game I was on level 10 with 2 cars and a nice amount of cash but after this afternoon I was still on level 10 but my cars were gone and my cash....AND I had to start over (but my level was still 10). How is that possible?
Ok fortunately this morning I had made a Titanium Backup of the game and data so I should be able to restore that to this morning's status.....wrong! THAT's the backup I've overwritten with a new Titanium backup. I actually made a backup of the first Titanium backup on my SD card but with the whole confusion I copied over the new backup to my SD card, overwriting this morning's good backup......
Anyone know how to recover my good backup files??
