The excellent http://www.cyrket.com shows a couple of applications that i can't see on Market on the phone.
Could this be because i live in Sweden? I have unlocked the phone and am using a Swedish telco.
Those are the apps in the Market. I just checked it, I guess it's because you aren't in the. U. S.
Developers have the option of selecting what regions can and can't access their apps via Market.
in Vietnam,im using my unlocked G1 with Viet telco, and I can see and install all of those apps.
Is it true that developers can select where they want their apps appear?

On this note, if anyone manages to find an application that is only accessible from outside of the US, please tell me (preferably with as much information as you can about it). I want to make Cyrket support changing your active country, but until I have a good test case it's difficult to work on.

Please do not type somthinf that you don't know. You will not find iskoot, or awesome app as linda file browser. It's because your sim card region is Vietnam. I think we can change com.android.vending odex or apk file to fake region of sim card.
All I know is I can't get the official Last.FM client in The Netherlands on the G1 NL.
It would be a nice feature of a rooted phone that you could select which market to view and download from.
Is someone looking at this does anyone know?
i believe it's sim-card based, so unless someone developes a universal sim card i don't think it's gonna happen

No, search next time please =)
Short answer is no with an adp build but if you really want paid apps you can install JFRC33 to get access to them.
I don't know where these guys are coming up with their info. You most definitely CAN access paid market with ADP, IF you have installed the update available at www.htc.com in the support section.
The only requirement is that you have a US or UK sim card installed, I don't think that it is necessary for the card to be active.
not so short answer
Well, people are kind of right about not being able to download paid apps. I have an ADP1 1.1 phone using Three as my provider here in the UK and I see SOME charged apps. BUT apps that the developer 'copy protects' arel not available. (see below for the unfiltered version)
This is a load of cr4p on Google's part because the 'copy protection' is simply installing the app to a protected directory (no encryption, no validation, nothing). As the ADP1 phone has root, we can get easy access to the apk file, and since we are all criminals we will post them to warz sites. Of course the reality is that there are far more rooted G1s out there (that CAN get all forms of paid apps) then there are ADP1s.
But, of course, Google has plausible denyability when it comes to hacked G1s. This is not the case with ADP1s. I suspect that this was a decision from the law department in Google.
The only sure way to get ALL the apps on an ADP1 is to install one of the hacked JesusFreek ROMS or flash it to a stock G1
Here is the official word from the android developers (http://android-developers.blogspot.com/)
"Some developers have asked about the support for copy-protected apps on developer devices, and indeed there is a limitation you should be aware of. Many developers are concerned about the unauthorized redistribution of their applications, so they make use of the copy-protection feature (known as "forward locking") which prevents applications from being copied off devices. However, developer phones like the ADP1 allow for unrestricted access to the device's contents, making it impossible to enforce copy protection. As a result, the Market application on such devices is not able to access copy protected apps, whether they are free or paid. If you choose to add copy protection when you upload your application to the Android Market, then you won't be able to test it on the ADP1's Android Market client. Your application will always be accessible to users who have standard configurations though, and if your application (whether it is free or paid) is not copy-protected it will appear on all devices, including developer configurations."

What update????
Try clicking on the link and going to the support section as I said. THAT update.
I don't see any updates for the G1 under the support section, only FAQ, User Guides, and Tips & Tricks. Do you have a direct link?
http://www.htc.com/www/support/android/adp.html
Thanks for the direct link. I was looking under G1... opps. I want to try and switch over to adp, but wont flashing the updates from the link mean I cant flash to a modded build? Even if I can see protected apps with this update, if I chose to use a Modded image, then I will lose the ability once again right?
Im sorry if im not getting this, but I just want to be on an ADP1.1 build that allows me to see AND purchase all apps... Even protected ones, while still being able to run the scripts and other developments that this community has brought. Will this help me accomplish that???
Sorry in advance
I just purchased a unlocked rogers magic for use on att. The phone and data work great on att. The market place shows free and some paid apps, but I dont see all paid apps. For example I do not see documents to go or the new copilot live gps software. Does my unlocked phone (not rooted) only show non copyright protected apps? I can see shazam which people say is copy protected. Can I do anything about this? Is my phone somehow linked to the canada marketplace store? Can I link to the US store?

The ROM is customized for Rogers, and Rogers deemed it necessary to lock down the market a bit. Going to have to wait until a cooked ROM becomes available or make your own.
This is a problem with the scandinavian HTC Magic phones aswell (maybe it is for all HTC-branded/PVT32A Magic phones?). No protected apps will show in the market on the phone. Paid apps are not available yet here in Sweden though, but there are also many free apps that are protected and not visible on Android Market on the HTC Magic phones here. If you root the phone with daldroids image and use market enabler, the problem still exists, although you can see some paid apps, most of them are protected and will not show.
A solution seems to be to flash the new NK02 ION rom, users of the scandinavian Magic has reported that they got full access to market when using that image. But there are probably many who don't want to flash a custom rom onto the phone.
This limitation seems to be gone now, at least on my swedish HTC Magic. I can now find all the apps that I couldn't find earlier since they were protected. Hopefully this is a permanent fix and not just a temporary glitch in Android Market.

you are right, as of today I can see the copy protected apps on my unlocked rogers htc magic which I use in the states. I'm buying my documents to go before it disappears.

If you purchased the apps using your android account and they show up in the tablet market, you can download them.
I've purchased quite a few and I can download them all. Some may not be fully compatible (fit into a tiny area of your screen) but will generally work if they show up in the tablet market.
I purchased the History Channel game straight from the market on the device even. Not worth $7 necessarily, but proof you can pay and play nonetheless.
The problem is that paid apps (along with some others - Google Earth for example) do not show at all in my market. When I try to install them through market.android.com I get a ""this item cannot be installed in your device's country". I am located in Greece. I had the same problem with Samsung Galaxy S, but it was solved using Market Enabler to change the carrier. The Iconia I have does not have 3G, so there is no carrier involved (tried Market Enabled and it does not work). What does it use to check your location. IP?
Most likely, which is very ****ty. As an American living in Mexico I get screwed constantly. It's tempted me to move back many times. Only $6 per pound filet mignon keeps me here.
It might use your address and credit card on file too though, I'm not sure. My account was made in the US, funded by US bank etc. I have access to all apps the USA does, but my prices are shown in pesos. Which in itself I find insulting.
Maybe try setting up a USA vpn on your router if it's available as an option to you.
It is very simple question and will be valid for many apps that are not available in certain regions.
I know I can still use netflix vis web browser but it would be cool to use their app as well.
Problem is, it will not be available in my region for a long, long time - can anything be done?
What region is that? If Netflix is available in your region and you can use their website it should be available in the Windows Store for you as well.
If you would look on the left, under my nick you would know that the region in question is Poland.
And if Netflix would be available in Poland I would not ask how can I get the Moder UI app + I would not say that it is not (service itself) available here

Right, didn't think to look at the left for region...
Since you said you could still use Netflix in the browser I assumed it was available in your region. The only way I can see to get the app if Netflix isnt available in your region would be to get a copy of the app from someone who has it installed and somehow make it work on your computer (I haven't tested but I doubt transferring even a free app in to the right folder would be enough for it to work) and that's not something I think anyone here will help you with due to illicit redistribution of their app and breaking of their license agreement and so on.
Tried the Netflix app with the ELO touch screen we have and must say the kids love it.

I dont think it is that easy. Apps for Modern UI can be downloaded only from Windows Stoder - unless you guys plan to jailbrake the system.
And I am not sure if argument you use "not something I think anyone here will help you with due to illicit redistribution of their app and breaking of their license agreement and so on." considering everything that is done here for Android devices.
I am more interested if there will be a way to unlock Windows Store like now we can unlock Google Play via Market Enabler. I understand that with GSM modem it is much easier... but...
So far I can only use Hulu and Netflix (on Windows) via web browser. I got to say that getting stuff like Netflix app is much easier on iOS...

Windows 8 store regionalisation is based on the honour system. All you have to do is change your location to the USA and Bob's your uncle.
In the start screen, search for 'Change Location'
change the windows region to USA,
install netflix, and any other apps you want
change back to your local region
You will probably need to change your region to the USA again if you need to update the apps.
I have tried this with Netflix and it worked for me in NZ. I still needed a vpn to run netflix though.
The web browser works better though

I know I will (still) have to use VPN as app and service are two different thing but still - AWESOME NEWS.
This means that will be able to get other apps (if already available) like BBC iPlayer, 4oD, Hulu, etc....
BTW: Do you know if they did it the same thing with Windows Phone 8? And if WP8 has (finally) VPN support?
Thanks for the info anyway!

Do you know about Windows RT? Perhaps instead of tablet/hybrid with Windows 8 Pro I could get a cheaper device with Windows RT on it...
If there is VPN support (as far as I know there is) and change os store location is as easy as in full Windows it would do me just fine.
I could do all the things I do toady on my iPad (netflix, hulu, web, email, etc...) + some more - at last comfortable typing.... I do write a lot and iPad is terrible if you work with Windows and text...
A friend of mine has found that on Play Store there are some apps that aren't "compatible" with the S10+. I too myself have checked and yes, it appears like it isn't compatible.
Can anyone else on other Regions check if this apps appear too like that? I am from Puerto Rico

If it's any consolation, the applications install just fine if you download the APK directly (e.g., APKPure).
The best thing to do is to reach to the Developers and inquire when your device will be 'officially' supported. They hold the key.
I'll explain why this happens:
When an application is built, a unique file called a 'Manifest' is created alongside it.
The 'Manifest' lists what the application CAN and CANNOT do when used with a specific device.
When the application is searched via Google Play and the result loaded, the 'Manifest' determines whether or not the device IS or ISN'T compatible.
If the Application is, it will install.
And if it isn't, it won't.
Given the popular of Samsung as a whole, you'll likely see availability soon but given the amount of devices released every month, one can only imagine how many updates a Developer must have to prepare.
If you'd like to learn more, take a look at this:

The thing is that not each device is manually included in the manifest. New devices are released all the time and unless you exclude something specifically, apps are always made available for distribution. This happens with one of the apps my company runs as well. Whenever a new Galaxy device comes out, its always incompatible with the app and its not because of anything we have done with it.
@Blaaargh
'The thing is that not each device is manually included in the manifest.'
No one said every device is included in the manifest. In fact no devices are listed in the manifest; only declarations.
'New devices are released all the time and unless you exclude something specifically, apps are always made available for distribution. Whenever a new Galaxy device comes out, its always incompatible with the app and its not because of anything we have done with it.'
OP wanted to know why APK X and Y weren't working. I provided him with a generalized explanation of why it MAY happen. It could very well be a Samsung issue but without breaking down the APKs in question, there's no way to be certain.
