Push to talk for Winhose Mobile.
What is Loudtalks?
Loudtalks brings voice back to the internet communications. It's a little application, which allows you to talk to your friends or colleagues instantly with a single touch of a button. Think walkie talkie. It's faster than text chat and more convenient than calls. Loudtalks is available for Windows right now, but we are working hard to bring it to other platforms soon, including your mobile phone. Loudtalks is free and will always be free.

This could be used with any device that runs Windows, can connect to the internet, and has a microphone and speaker
sounds tight hope to try
Palringo currently does this as well. Not sure which is better though...
I have installed it and it works good. Doesn't use your minutes when talking. It could be kind of like Mobile to Mobile for WinMo users and can cross carriers. Anyways, does anyone know how to enable a sound/alert when initiating or receiving PTT transmission like the infamous Nextel chirp? I noticed that on the PC version it has a chirp.
yeah that would be great. i need the beep too.
This would be so cool!
Hope you manage to port it without problems,
cheers!

Version 2.2 (beta) of Skype for Pocket PC is now available. Here.
Does it resolve the stupid, playing the audio through the speakerphone instead of the handset?
and, does it let us use the video camera to make viedo calls on skype?
From Skype forums! said:
On 12th December we have launched Skype 2.2 Beta for Windows Mobile devices. It support now Smartphone’s and has enhanced support for Pocket PC devices.
Now available for Smartphone’s powered by Windows Mobile software, as well as Pocket PCs, including those using lower-power processors, the latest incarnation of Skype software further extends Skype use beyond desktop or notebook computers.
Key features and benefits in Skype 2.2 for Windows Mobile beta include:
* NEW: Support for Windows Mobile smartphones and more Pocket PC devices;
* NEW: Enhanced today/home screen: presence status, event notification (missed calls, new chat messages and voicemails);
* NEW: Proxy support: Supports regular HTTP or HTTPS proxies, and authenticating HTTPS/SSL and SOCKS5 proxies
* Skype calling features: Free Skype-to-Skype calls, support for SkypeOut, SkypeIn™, voicemail and call forwarding;
* User-friendly look and feel: As easy and familiar as using Skype on a computer;
* One-click Skype access: A Skype icon on the home screen lets users view and call contacts easily;
* Multi-person chat: Users can have multichat sessions using animated emoticons. When mobile users are offline, chat messages will automatically update the next time user logs in;
* Enhanced contact list: Users can see their contacts avatars and mood messages;
* Profile personalization: Users can take a picture with the camera on their mobile device and immediately update their profile.
You can download it here, browse release notes and give us feedback on Developer Zone or browse our Windows Mobile 2.2 Beta forum.

Skype for windows Mobile 2.2.0.18 known issues:
* If your device is connected to internet via Activesync, Skype may not login. Workaround is that you first open Internet Explorer in your Windows mobile device and then run Skype. Althought you will be connected to Skype network, it is not possible to place calls via ActiveSync.
* On PocketPC phone editions audio comes out from loudspeaker, it is not transferred to phone speaker. To avoid using loudspeaker, we suggest you to use wired headset. This will also give you better overall sound quality in Skype calls.
* In many cases if you have bluetooth headset connected to Windows mobile device, it is not possible to use it for Skype calls. In most cases you will not hear anything, or most of the text is cut off.
* In case you participate in many multichats and you log into Skype on mobile devices, multichat synchronization might freeze your device for several minutes. Similar freeze might also occur when you have lot of Contacts in your Contacts list (more than 50). To avoid this we suggest you to have separate Skype account for mobile devices where you have only most important contacts.
* On some occasions SkypeIn calls doesn't get through to Windows mobile devices. In most cases it helps if you quit Skype and start it again. If it is continuous problem for you, please report it to our customer support.
* When you are logged into Skype with same username on different platforms, some users in your Contacts list might have different statuses displayed on different platforms. Usually PC has correct information in these cases.
* Chat privacy settings are not working on some cases. If you do not allow chats from non-contacts or from users who are not authorized, their chats might still get through to you.

sadly, it's still doing this stupid thing.... and my skype out credit does not show up correctly with this beta version....
I just downloaded skype and installed it, but it seems to crash if I try to make voice calls over the HDSPA network.
I can't find any info on this, does voice have to go over WiFi?

Does anyone know if it's even possible for an app to take control of the phone speaker? In other words, is the phone speaker somehow dedicated to the phone components of the device?
I find the speaker thing extremely ridiculous
try using the bundled headset... else there is a way to patch the voice to a bluetooth headset by changing a reg key. Note that doing this will prevent the headset button to initiate voice calls (it will be used to turn Bluetooth on the headset on/off). You can still pickup and hangup calls using it.

I believe the reason for this is because you can still actively recieve normal calls whilst using skype. What would happen if both the phone and skype are fighting for that speaker??? I think you would have a soft reset on your hands.
When using skype i use the bundled headset that was mentioned in an earlier post.
S.K.
Skype is nice when you have a flat fee/Wifi connections.. else, I tried 1 minute once, 800KB traffic :|
Skypeout Dialling
Hi,
Is anyone else aware of a solution for the lack of a "+" key on the Skypeout dialling skin?
For those that have not tried it, you can call non-skype numbers using Skype, and pay either a flat annual fee or pay as you go credits. Anyhow, Skype requires a "+" entered in front of the phone number. However, there is no "+" key on the dialling skin; you have to access your device keyboard for that. This is inconvenient and seems to me to be a very easy fix - get rid of the need for the "+" or add the key to the dialler...
Thanks,
MM

Well I have to say it's not that obvious. I remember spending a while working that one out sometime back as like you it seemed crazy that there was no obvious key.

I have a new found interest in Skype. I'm currently with T-Mobile and I have been thinking of switching to Cingular/ATT for the 3G data. I was wondering if Skype works flawlessly with Cingular's 3G HSDPA network, or if it works only over WiFi? If it does, I'll head over to cingular right now and sign up. I was going to wait until they get the replacement for the 8525, but that doesn't seem like it'll happen anytime soon. Any help on this is greatly appreciated.
Hi Kman79,
I can't answer specifically about Cingular At&T, but I can tell you that the Roger's AT&T network in Canada uses the same GSM 3G protocol and frequency range. I have used an 8525 with WM5 and WM6 and used Skype with no problems where I had a moderate or better 3G signal. I tried it with and EDGE signal and it was too choppy to make it usable IMHO.

I appreciate the reply. I was just in Edmonton, Canada about a month ago, and I was using Roger's network with no problem with my Softbank phone. I had no issues in terms of making or receiving calls, I would assume it would be the same with their 3G data, I appreciate the response. I'll most likely be switching to Cingular soon, I'm out of contract with Tmobile and I was already considering the switch anyways.
Edmonton was a nice change of pace from Houston, I had a great time and people were very friendly. Beautiful country by the way, it was the first time I actually seen snow, yes I was bread in the Houston heat for most of my life.
It's good to hear my western friends were hospitable. Ottawa and Washington have had a few differences over the past decade, so it's always good to hear that it hasn't affected the general public's sence of decency and good-will. Glad you had the chance to see the snow too, although, most of us are usually happy to see it go in March... I've had the pleasure of visiting a number of the States, including some in the south, but haven't had the pleasure of visiting the Lone Star State as yet but hopefully I'll get there someday to see y'all.
Almost forgot. Take care, eh...

if someone finds out how to make phone calls on the Shift, there will be a big sticky...so...not yet
Isn't the Shift too small for a phone?
try to imagine it in windows mobile mode, in a bag near yr documents with a bluetooth headset connected and voice dialing enabled..
it'd be perfect for me, and when i need it i could turn vista on and use autocad or office, or outlook for a better email experience..
too bad that the phone capability is not enabled..yet.

I agree. It would be a great to have the phone enabled. Would make my life easier....
I am not sure if the capability is there but if it can be enabled, someone here will find a way.
Personally, I prefer to use my phone for calls, and use this device for its intended purpose of a fully data enabled UMPC, WiFi and 3G/HSDPA. I use this and phone together to get maximum bandwidth out of the network.
My online TV would slow down too much if it had to take a phone call at the same time on one device!!

I installed skype mobile on my titan, and I can't get it to work properly. When I try to make a skype call, everything goes through, it dials the #, the phone i'm calling rings and picks up, but they can't hear me, and I can't hear them. Does anyone have any ideas? Is there something i'm missing?
Thanks,

I've heard an older version of Skype works to an extent.
Do you know what version? Worth a try i guess.
Thanks
I hate to be the bearer of Bad news, but this is my story.
I had a Sprint Mogul (Qwest), I put on the skype Beta version 2.0 which worked and woked well!! but then I went on to verizon, I got a migration to the xv6800 and jumped on it
unfortunately I upgraded the ROM to windows mobile 6.1, and any version of skype from the earliest beta up to 3.8 won't even run the only version that would run is the lates one from the skype website, but just like you, I cannot hear anyone and no one can hear me, I tried everything, scoured every website, Fringe barely worked, but not the way I wanted it to, Skooter worked great but then thats because it actually calls a number that goes through Skype to where ever you want it.. Handy to call abroad, it only uses your minutes from your cell phone plan.
I'm still searching for anything that will work on my phone,, but at the very least, I have a Qwest Mogul that works quite well as a Skype phone so not all is lost.
If anyine knows of a VOIP prgram that can be used by the Mogul with WM 6.1 I would love to hear about it
Thanks
im using skype 2.2.0.20 on a sprint mogul with wm6.1, it works for the most part, although i have to use my BT headset to make calls

Hi. I've tried several versions, but none of them can use the standard mike. BTW, Default, can you post a link to the cab for your working version, please?
The only way I've had some success is using fring, which will let you access the Skype network and use Skypeout credits too, but my problem is it has no softphone numeric pad, so it's useless for calls for automated services which require any menu navigation.
A new alternative came out last week, called Nimbuzz, but it can't connect to Skype on my Mogul.
I'm using dcd 3.3.4 and radio 3.42.50. If any of you get any of these working, please share...

This story is of particular interest to me as I think UMA is a kickass feature. Does anybody know anything about how this is going to work on the charm? Does anyone have a system dump of the charm rom yet? I'd love to poke around and see what's in there.

Not really; it's not a replacement for UMA. You can't be in a dead zone and be making/receiving calls and texts over WiFi only.

I guess you can hack a solution if you give everyone your Google Voice number (or forward all calls to it), and have it forwarded to a DID or other number, having that number expose SIP credentials (or use in conjunction with Gizmo/PBXes/Sip Sorcery), and finally use Sipdroid to register and receive calls and dial out. Whew.
Not that I haven't done it before , but that is hardly what UMA can do for you; a seamless connection to the provider without the need of any of that mumbo jumbo (not to mention reliance on everything in your VoIP chain working smoothly all the time)
just out of curiosity though; do you have your setup such that all of your calls/texts are sent/received through the same number so that it's all transparent to everyone else?

I would have to admit, it was a bit of pain(time) to setup. It does fine as an UMA replacement until T-Mobile decide that their coverage is not perfect enough yet and work with google to implement.
As for my setup. Well once I go underground, anyone with my regular mobile number can call and reach me as if I was on T-Mobile same way. As for texts, nope, not yet at least, they would have to text my google number. The only bad side about this setup is that sipdroid does not keep the call going over wifi with the screen off. So your phone gets rather hot after 30mins. Go figure.
Also thanks to this setup, I also take calls on my laptop with both linux and Windows..
One last thing to note since the Charm has UMALite. A user commented on that TmoNews link and said this:
Only calls can be made via UMA. Text/VM notification/MMS will not go work. So like on a TMO Blackberry, UMA gives you full functionality via UMA. UMALite does not. Oh and one more thing,if you originate a call via UMALite, it will not hand it over to gsm or vice versa.

+ 1 on this.i have heard the vibrant has this feature but i cannot verify.i have sent the developer of the vibrant for cm several messages regarding this issue and cannot get a response.ive even offered a reward to someone that can successfully port it to my nexus.i had a bberry with this feature and its awesome when you are in a building most of the day and have no signal.all of these other features mentioned in this thread,while excellent in their own way,are no comparison to UMA.

I have also posted this on VF forums but hoped someone here on might have some experience of this:
Anyone out there using Skype on their DHD yet? I use skype for my business and have a skype incoming number too so it is great that I will no longer have to divert skype calls to my mobile at cost. I can now just pick them up directly from my mobile for free. I can even make free outgoing UK landline calls from the mobile via skype as part of my skype subscription, although this isn't as big a deal due to the VF contract I have.
I may be wrong, and I will be testing this out very soon, but when abroad and assuming you buy a local SIM with some data allowance, I think I should be able to receive calls to my skype number and make calls (via my skype subscription) to UK landlines all from my mobile for free! Can anyone with similar experience confirm this to be the case?
Also, the skype app for android isn't the most intuitive regarding changing the settings etc and you can't use the back button once logged in, only the home button to hide the app. Hopefully that will be addressed in the next release. My main issue however is that I cannot change the ringing volume for skype which is currently set very low. I have found an option to change the ring tone but it only offers either the default or something from the music stored on the handset, no mention of volume though. I have also set all the volumes of the handset (Calls, notifications, etc) to full but skype still rings very quietly. Anyone have any ideas on this?
For anyone interested, Skype just released an update for this app. It now allows you to use the back button to hide the app. However there is now a more annoying problem of the missed call page showing up everytime you go to the app (assuming you have a missed call) and won't go away until you clear the whole history.
I have read on other forums the only solution to the low ringing volume is to change the default to a music file of your choice which is of a decent volume.

Yes, tried Skype on my DHD today for the first time. Signal was quite good to start with but then the sound started breaking up a little. Then I took an incoming Skype call which didn't have such good sound quality.
It clearly works, but I think the sound quality, like on another other computer, depends on the quality of your data internet connection. Also, it is annoying about the back button, I agree. Looks like its just the first version for Android, so hopefully Skype will improve it soon.
So the BIG ?
Is there a front facing camera on the DHD?
No, the DHD hasnt got a front facing camera.
Any idea if the back camera can be used for a video call?

NO I did not, because all the crappy reviews do NOT mention that, most of them tend to be C&P from some bad stock handout, same as a few 'older' reviews of the DHD mention that the FFC may only work when 2.2 comes out.
As we can see plenty of bull**** on the internet
