timezone cannot be set correctly - Touch HD General

Hi all,
I have at last found a deception point with my blackstone
I have a problem with the timezone. I set it to (+1) Paris, Madrid. All is well, and my appointments after the 29th of March (summertime date) are OK.
If I reset my blackstone, or simply wait for the next day, then the time zone is back to (+1) Prague (first zone for +1 zone), and then all my appointments after the 29th of March are not correct (one hour before). I think that Prague does not include summmertime...
I have tried several tips (including trying to use "Other town" in alarm&Clock setting), but no result.
any idea ?
thanks in advance !

Are you sure that this is happening automatically? As far as I know it is iGo8 (R1), which is responsible for that, so just disable the automatic time zone correction in iGo8 (if it is the case for you).

Thanks for your answer.
well, it seems it is automatic, I have not used Igo8 for a long time :-(
The evening, I set (+1) Paris, and the next morning, (+1) Prague is back !
I have just disable Igo automatic zone correction in Igo, and it does not correct the problem : after a reset, Prague is back again :-((((
And Igo does not seem to stay on the timezone I have set : it returns on the first +1 timezone (Amsterdam).

If you are starting Igo, this is an issue with Igo - one of the versions changed the timezones even if you asked it not to. Update to the most recent version.

"Autocorrectie" & "Tijdzone automatisch inst." disabled.
After a restart of IGO the 'prague' settings are back.
Tought I have the latest version of Igo....

I have seen that this seems to take place in the registry :
The HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Time\TimeZoneInformation is resetted (almost all bytes to 0).
Even Prague is no more in this key (there is a difference in this key if you set Prague or if you reset the HD and Prague is set automatically).
very strange.....

Could be Activesync fudging around with the settings when you connect to the PC? I had this problem on my Elf for a while but for some reason it suddenly started working OK again.

timezone cannot be set correctly. solution?
Changing the timezone settings through the IGo GUI won't work, dunno why. But , fooling around some other forums, i found this other solution that seems to work, at least for me (igo 8.3.2.1).
You just have to add these following 3 lines to the "sys.txt" configuration file that is in the application directory under the programs folder on your device (es. /Program Files/iGO8/). Hope this works for you too.
------------------------------------ cut here-----------------
[timezone]
sync_os_timezone=0
reset_os_timezone=0
------------------------------------ cut here-----------------

I do not use Igo, so this will not work for me.

I have same problem. I set GMT+2 Helsinki Riga and when I made softreset, there's GMT+2 Windhoek. Windhoek isn't first on list so no just exactly same problem, but it keeps changing whatever I do.

it seems that a hard reset has resolved the problem on my Touch HD.
I am going to re-install the softwares one by one and check each time, in case of...

Hi,
Seems to be fixed now.
I don't think it has anything to do with IGO.
Touch the clock -> settings screen opens.
Select/enable the 'visiting' mode/selection.
Set the proper GMT value within the visiting mode.
Close the 'settings' screen by selecting 'ok' in top right corner.
Touch the clock -> settings screen opens.
Select/enable the 'Home' mode/selection.
Set the proper GMT value within the visiting mode if needed.
Close the 'settings' screen by selecting 'ok' in top right corner.
That did the trick for me.
Still wondering if it's running on the visiting mode in the background, or what the heck caused this... but it's working oke now.

you're right, this procedure works for me... during some time...
The next day, the problem was there again...
No more problem since the hard reset.

I have exactly same problem what you have. No matter which rom i use, every time I got this same result that HD is swiching this time zone from GMT+2 Helsinki Riga to GMT+2 Windhoek.

Try disabling 'Automatic change time zone and clock' under 'Settings' 'Phone' to see if that works. Sometimes Networks give out incorrect timzone data and it corrupts the reg key.

Hi,
I have a similar problem, but this doesn't solve my problem.
The only difference is that I installed iGo on my SD card, and I don't have any iGo folder in Program files.

Same thing happens with GMT+8. I select Perth (GMT+8) then ActiveSync decides that it should be reset to the first timezone in the list (Beijing, HK).
I have disabled 'Automatically set Timezone' in the Phone settings and the Timezone is correct on the PC.
Something must have changed because it used to select GMT+8 Ulaanbaatar before (which is last in the GMT+8 list)

Sync date and time to cell phone tower?

I'm trying TNT ROM and it keeps locking up, so I remove the battery to reset the phone. Unfortunately, this resets the clock and date to 2006, which screws up call logs, appointments, etc. when I forget to fix the date/time.
My old phone would sync the time/date every time I turned it on, getting the info from the cell phone tower/network (when I went to California, for instance, the phone was automatically on local time). Is there a program to do this for the Wizard/PocketPC? I know of programs that sync to NTP (TNT comes with one that doesn't work), but that's no help when I'm not connected to Wi-Fi.
At the very least, could it save the time to the memory card so that it doesn't revert all the way back to 2006 when the battery is removed? The time would be wrong, but at least it wouldn't go back in time compare to when I turned it off.
No, the Wizard does not feature either flash memory nor a battery back up for the date and time. Newer HTC devices do, but the Wizard for whatever reason doesnt.
Is there a way to sync the phone's clock to the cell phone network?
No. I've found that the easiest way to sync the time is with active sync. I use a atimic clock sync on my computer and then sync my phone to my computer... I do hate that also with the not syncing with the towers, but this is an acceptable replacement for me. This was always the way that I did it with my iPaq 1715 also.
Is there a way to display a very obvious reminder message when the date is obviously wrong? (It always thinks the date is 2006.)

Hi endolith,
what ROM version are you at? I'm running a Win Mobile 6.1 ROM version and my Wizard is adjusting the time after a hard reste to the appropriate time and date automatically....
So maybe an update to a 6.1 ROM could help...
BTW: I'm using XIONS 0.7 ROM (but it is in German)
huibuh_1
Look in a registry editor for nitz
There should be two locations
HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting ShowNitzPage = 1 in DWord
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL NITZEnable = 1 in DWord
Those are the settings in my phone's registry.
Then start menu\settings\personal\phone you will now see a tab called Time Zones
Check the box to allow it to update the clock.
You may have to do the turn off phone wait 30 seconds and reset with pushpin routine.

Mine says:
HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting ShowTimeZonesPage = 1
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL NITZEnable = 0
Changed NITZEnable to 1 and it seems to work. I wonder if that does the same thing as the check box under Time Zones?

Duh. Just set an appointment for the day it resets itself to, so it will pop up a reminder.
Also, I confirmed that NITZEnable toggles along with the UI checkbox, so you don't need to go into the registry at all.
Just go to Start > Settings > Personal > Phone > Time Zones and enable Automatic change time zone and clock. I mean, that's totally obvious, right? (I need to find a new phone that doesn't have any relationship with Microsoft...)
Just load TimeSync to your phone. It will require a data connection when used, but you can just run it manually. No need for all of this exotic flim-flammery...

Or just go to Start > Settings > Personal > Phone > Time Zones and enable Automatic change time zone and clock. No need to install anything, and no need for a data connection.

Clock changes time

Hmmm I don't knoe how to explain that (lack of words)
Sometimes when I check the time clock shows me proper time. A while later it showes that is for example 3 hours later It looks like clock changes the time by itself and without any reason.
Any1 noticed something like that ? It;s really annoying
I had the same problem. I have dutch language selected, but it should be something like this:
In Settings -> Phone -> Timezones unselect 'Change timezone and clock automatically'. I synchronize the clock on my phone using activesync.
Changed.
I will observe and let You know Thx
have same problem here!!!
It started happening recently and I can't find why. I will try your solution now.
I woke up in the morningn. The clock was 9:00 am , I sent a sms to a contact (using normal application) and then when I return to TF3D the clock was showing 18:00 !!!!
The only modification I do recently was setting Activesync to not start automatically . Have you played with that setting too?
hy!
it's Igo chenges the clock i had a same problem disable clock changing in igo navigation software.

Help.. the location in the time settings always change!

Hi,
I have a strange problem... everytime I set the "location" in the time settings of my Blackstone to my home country/city (GMT +2), it automatically changes itself to "GMT Casaplanca" after few days...
I checked the regional settings (Settings>System>Regional Settings), but this seems irrelevant (it is set to English(Canada), which is neither my home country nor Casaplanca).
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Have you tried the following thread?

well, this thread focuses on a different problem (which is the fact that the time zones are incorrect for some cities). the time zones in my device are correct.but the city which I choose as my home city changes after few days

I had that problem when I had iGo installed and set to automatically sync with gps time &zone which was London.I just unchecked that and it's gone.So if you have iGo 8 check time&zone setting.

Time Zone Mess

Hi,
maybe I am the only one - but I have a HUGE issue with which I never had to deal previously!
I am living on Bali/Indonesia = GMT +8.
Indonesia has 2 time Zones GMT +7 and +8
In prev version of Leo Roms (non-offocial ones like Dutty's) I could also set "My Location" and the responding time zone (= +8 for Bali).
Now I got the HD2..with "My Location" enabled it picks up weather for either "Kuta" or "Denpasar".
If it takes "Denpasar" all is fine as that obv is linked in the Manila Database to GMT +8..HOWEVER if "My Location" updates to "Kuta" Weather than the Clock jumps one hour back (as "Kuta" seems to be linked to GMT +7).
Totally frustrating....
Any idea what could be done?
I already set value "0" under /Time/for automatic updating....still....this bloody clock keeps flipping backward...
If I disable "My Location" in weather than I can select only "Kediri" - and that is linked as well to GMT +7 = all clocks are set wrong if I amend that manually to GMT +8....plus: under Clock Settings "My Location" is also still shown...grrrr
So...guess it would coming down to amending the Manila Database - but: how can that be done?
Any Input would be highly appreciated..as I never experienced such an issue with any Phone..weather WM or Apple or Symbian
I am in england and sometimes the 'my location' location for some reason thinks in in new dehli or a couple of other citys ive nevr heard of!
You could try tapping on the clock itself (world clock), adding the city manually, and then selecting it (radio button). Then it'll show that time instead of your "my location".

True, but after each soft reset it seems to go back to My Location.
Happy (well...kind off) to see that I am not the only one.....
I mean..what kind of a mess is this if a Phone like this doesnt even show the correct time??!!
Plssss......someone must be able to come up with a solution to this crap!
Thanks Guys!

You're not alone. I'm in the UK and my location correctly reports my position, but it thinks it's in GMT-5 Eastern US timezone. What's that all about?

Calendar - Daylight Savings and Snooze

I have migrated my data from my old PDA to the HD2 - and -
I have several "appointements" that are daily and were set to a certain time.
On the HTC calendar they now show one hour prior to the time I set
(On the older PDA) - What's more - If I run the calendar forward -
to June - these "Appointements" get back to their original time.
My conclusion from that is - that it has to do with the daylight savings calculations.
**Edit: when the reminder pops up (An hour early) it does display the CORRECT appointement time
**Edit2: if you want to test it - create a daily appointement at a certain time, and in the calendar - go to June -
open one of the days - and see that the apointement has moved to an hour later
Another thing is - an appointement reminder pops up -
I only have a button to dismiss and a button to snooze.
The problem is - I cannot choose how long to snooze (neither by tapping the button, nor by holding the button down for a few seconds).
Has anyone else experienced these problems ?
Another question I have is :
Is there a way to make the reminder sound repeat ?
On the old PDA, i could check the check-box in "Sound and notifications" settings -
and that made the Reminder sound repeat every 30-60 seconds -
On the HD2 this check-box is disabled.
(Y would I need it to repeat - well, if I left it on te table and went away for a few moments,
and I missed the notification - I wolu want it to sond again)
(ROM ver: 1.43.405.1 (70124)
Manila: 2.5.19202525)
Ok, two of the problems I resolved
(
Notification Snooze:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5032530
Notification Sound Repeat:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=460368
)
Now - Im only left with the daylight savings issue.
Is there a way to disable automatic DST ? - I dont mind setting it manually
Is there a way to fix the calendar ?
Anyone ?
Hmmm

I would also appreciate it if people who tried it, and saw a correct behavior
(An appointment that was set to repeat daily, using the "repeat"/recurring option, appeared at the same time all year long)
coult specify that -
So I would check how/why Im the only one with the problem
Thanks In Advance.
Anyone got a fix for the Daylight saving issue???? is there a registry tweak??
Im Having problems with DST too, is there a way to disable it, HTC support is useless (beening talking to them for 1 week and none of the "solutions"they give me work) and there is no MS support for win mo 6.5 at all.
They set Buenos Aires where I live as if we use DST which we don't and every appointment is 1 hr ahead, and every time I sync the HD2 with outlook or any time service the clock goes 1 hour ahead and have to change it manually again.
Thanks!
As much as I hate to pull this thread from the "dead"
Sadly - The problem with daylight savings had returned.
I will describe it again -
if you have an appointment that was set to - lets say - 18:00,
and you are in a timezone with daylight savings enabled (in my case - GMT+2 = Jerusalem),
When the system thinks you are in daylight savings period, it moves the appointment according to the daylight savings difference - meaning - it will set it to be on 19:00.
I thought the last (official) ROM upgrade had solved this problem, since It did not occur this time,
that it until yesterday.
Yesterday, my device stopped responding, and I had to pull out the battery.
When I returned the battery to the device and turned it on - the Date-Time-Timezone got "Resetted".
When I set them back - and set Timezone to GMT+2=Jerusalem - the phenomenon re-appeared.
(another thing I discovered (by mistake) is that - If I set it to GMT+2=pretoria the appointments stay at their original time)
Had anyone else encountered this ?
Was anyone else able to resolve this ?
Thanks

Sure, but - how do I do that ?
It automatically sets the clock by itself according to the current date, and according to the date it "knows" summer time starts and ends . . .
