something wrong when installed tf3d and panel system crash UPDATED - XPERIA X1 General

this is my 1 thread in this forum, so thanks for letting me join.
i got the x1 for christmas, and i like it a lot. i want to make the most of it, and starting with tf and the panel. something went wrong when i installed it.
1 installed manill full hd 32mb
2 unchecke all in wtoday
3 soft reset
4 installed yf3d panel
5 soft reset
6 made the panel show in panels
7 selected the panel
two words. loading tf and there it stops.
have looked for reasons, and when i go to wtoday i cant find it in the list for pograms. but when i go to uinstall pograms i find it there.
i installed it on the memory card, maybe that is the reason?
tried to uinstal, and the device just stopped. used soft reebot and needed to reinstall it self to how it was when i got it.

A beauty but what a quality beast

G'day all
I recently got myself a lovely HTC wizard (branded O2 XDA Mini S, ). It's a device I've been researching for a while so I was very much excited to try out my first WM product when it arrived this morning.
However, for all it's beautiful design, it's really been a bit of a big pain on several ways. Most significantly and immediately noticable is the very sluggish interface. Some things, like notifications, I can dismiss fine, but the majority of actions, such as starting a program, opening one of the left-hand buttons or switching to landscape mode, take several (maybe 10) seconds to happen and even then the screen will only be partially and very slowly redrawn. This seems to only occur at the 'today' screen (other programs are pleasantly snappy). Anyway, it's rendering the today screen pretty useless and since it's the starting screen it means everything is taking much longer to do. Is this just my device or is this a recurring issue?
Cheers
Have you reinstalled without the o2 Active stuff (basic mode option I think). It the real hog.
Other than tat have a look around the messages is the forum for various registry hacks to speed this baby up.
It does work well, you just have to tweak the heck out of it.
So it's a matter of going around deleting stuff that 02 put on?
Basic install plus something like SPB or Magic button to close apps properly (apart from the ones you regularly use, such as phone/messaging/IE) makes the device at least twice as quick.

This is exactly what I've done on my mini S...O2 Active is really doggy, the interface looks fine, but mini S can't affort....
Basic intall with SPD Plus work fine for me....I can now play mp3 & mp4 files smoothly with beta player, connect BT GPS receiver with TT5...
To really clear all the clutter, perform a hard reset and when you get to the 'about to customise' step (short countdown) perform a soft reset.
This results in a completely clean OS thats much more responsive. SPB pocket plus is a good app to install next.
There are other registry tweaks such as disabling menu animation that make an additional improvement to the responsiveness
There are plenty of discussions about this in the other threads - have a search around.
Dunno if this works on the Wizard but on the magician, if you map one of your buttons to the "Start" menu, then you can do a lot of program switching without going via today page - and the whole re-draw of it.
Particlulrly if you chose wisely the 5 programs that you can specify for the start menu.

The soft reset method is OK if you don't use MMS as the MMS app will not be installed, if you want to use MMS though the Basic install is better
I cleaned my mini-s the hard way
Hard reset, soft reset, then installed some of the extROM cab files manually and setup the GPRS manually too. Wizard now runs ok, its not fantasticly fast, TTN5 still takes time to load, and incoming calls while it loads cause problems (but thats only 15 secs!). Magic button is great, pick the apps you need to keep open (phone, text messages, etc) and "keep alive" and "hide when inactive" then just use close all to keep the RAM free.
Alright - I'll try one of these hard/soft reset cleans. But...
Another problem I've been having is that ActiveSync refuses to detect my device over USB. The USB connection seems fine (Windows XP detects new but unkown hardware - seems to lack an RNDIS driver or something), but a sync I can't make work.
So I can't install anything again. After a hard reset will applications such as phone and messaging be restored or will the require a reinstall (that I can't do)?
Also, remapping the buttons sounds like a brilliant idea. I'm not so big on IE so if I made that my start menu toggle I could reach a whole load of things one-handed. One thing that oft annoys me is when you have to close a program or dialogue box with the cross in the top-right. Can that be remapped to, say, the voice recorder button so I don't have to keep awkwardly touching the screen?
That Magic Button sounds handy also - freeware by any chance? I'll google it in a sec. It's annoying (well, peculiar, coming from a PalmOS background) to have several applications running at once - all that's needed is the phone/messager apps and perhaps the music player.
Thanks for all yer replies!

unhandled error in the shell?

Every so often I get this message:
"An unhandled error has occurred in the shell. Attempting to restart the shell."
The only thing I can do is hit OK and it restarts. This is my second wizard and the first had this problem as well. I thought that it might be the registry edit that I made to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:WMPLAYER
I changed string 1 to replace wmplayer.exe to another program but changed it back in an attempt to fix the problem but I still get the same error.
Any ideas?
Any chance you're trying to close the programs app or the control panel (proper close, not OS minimise). This also causes such a crash.

Hi Vijay,
I am also gettign this error, except mine only seems to happen EVERYTIME I close the Program Folder.
i am runing a Vodafone VPA Compact III (TYTN)
Any Ideas on how to fix this?
Thanks.
Yes, don't close the programs folder. VJOkButt has exceptions for the Programs Folders and Control Panel and other system folders, because closing them crashes the OS.
So as Beverly Crusher would say, "don't move your arm".
V
i g3t this also
i also get this.. not all the time but when closing file explorer i dont kno what it could b?
i started getting this a few weeks back. after readuing this post i can confirm it happens when i close my "Programs" folder. what gives???
any help is appreciated
thanks
This recently started happening to me too. Until 2 weeks ago i had never seen tis, not it happens every day.
It seems to happen under different circumstances, but often when i am using Opera.
The odd thing is that i have not changed and settings or installed any new apps...
...however, i did start happening around about the time it started experimenting with over clocking. I have since stopped overclocking, but still get this.
It damn annoying, i really do not want to do a hard reset.
the hard reset will not help. I also re installed the rom and still got the same message. this is really weird.
i guess there is some file somewhere corrupted.
as I played with the phone, I realized that the HTC X button, when set to close the apps, it causes this issue. so I uninstalled it. and I get no more popups.
It has started happening to me too and I have pinpointed it to trying to close the programs folder before the icons load. Any fix available yet?

Latest, greatest Manilla2D?

OK, I loaded no2chem nueROM3 so that I can finally have enough memory to run larger items. I want to try Manilla2D again; however, after doing a lot of searching I seem to find lots of versions, etc.
So my question is: Where can I find the latest, newest version of Manilla 2D?
Chimp (Tom)
Buuuuummmmmpppp....
probably here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398173
Here is the rapidshare link to it http://rapidshare.com/files/149899392/manila.zip.html
Its in big letters in the hacking/development forum. First post has all the links to the packages and fixes in the second or third post.
I finally hard reset to get rid of M2D, I like it but every time I would flash it, randomly one tab would reset TF. I used the same files on my SD card, set it up again and it would randomly switch what tab shut TF down.
I was using updates 14 and 16 the last few times I set it up. Let us know what you think of a fresh install of update 18.
Ok, I'll try update 18. I assume that, once I get that 18 update file, I just unzip it, and install the Manilla2d cab, correct? And what is the 'patch' file about?
Chimp (Tom)
Unzip it and thereshould be an instructions.txt file. Read it to see the order of installation, as just installing the M2D cab will make nothing work
There were several patches, from making the weather display custom cities to making the album art show in audio manager. Just unzip and read the instructions.
It has been a while since I read that thread so I may be a little out of the loop. Best to read some of the newer entries dated around 9-30, when the update came out.
Good luck
FWIW, I used the version that is in buildos with nueROM, and it rocks! I then used the M2D customizer found in the hackanddev forum to turn off some of the tabs (internet, mms, and a few others i would never use). In high memory mode, even after a full day's use, I still idle with about 18mb ram. Not to bad! Even in low mem mode, still have around 16-17 ram, but it does fade to around 12-13 after some useage.
Gudy
Ok, I tried it but I was not impressed. No, not with the content (it looked really cool) but with it working.
First of all there wasn't any instructions anywhere - just .cab files. So I installed what I assumed I needed to install. Ran Ok after resetting; however, none of the grid items worked. By that I mean that I couldn't add (or use) anything on the contacts or programs menu - Although the app was active, licking (touching) would do nothing. Even trying to click the internet icon would do nothing.
Finally I gave up on that one, uninstalled it, then installed the one I found here (the xda version). Now that one worked, and I could set up contacts and programs. However, the internet would never work, and it was mighty flakey to use. There was some other major problem with that version, although now I can't remember what it was.
Anyway, I went ahead and uninstalled that one also. So at this time I guess it is just not ready for prime time. Anyone have any other ideas to get it running right (if I am even running the correct one), or a better choice? I have tried the new Wisbar Desktop Advance, but it has a major memory leak in it. PointUI was OK but just not what I was looking for (had problems also).
Chimp (Tom)
So you went HERE and downloaded a zip file from one of the updates, and it did not come with instructions? That would make all the difference in anything working. I will post the last instruction set I have, it may not be for 18 but it is the most recent I have. And remember, this is an example from an older update!
first of all im a total noob to this(1 day's worth of experience)...so take that as it is...
HOWEVER...just messing around today with 18 i ended up getting everything working. I DL'd the zip, and installed EVERYTHING in the logical order that made sense in my head. (main before patches, etc.) It looks to me that all those files are the actual working pieces of Manilla(correct me if im wrong)...
A few things that are bothering me...Anyone have this working on landscape? It cuts off 1/4 of the screen on the right hand side and just says "sprint" in a black box????
it is well known that there is no native landscape support. I find it hard to believe the newest version did not come with an instruction set. I may have to attempt 18 tomorrow just to see. I apologize as I am not with my laptop to help out here.
And yes, the .cab's are the backbone for manilla.
kdj67f,
Yep, that is where I went and I got the Rel 18 download... All it had was a folder in it with the CABs - I didn't see anything in there that had instructions.
I'll check out the ones you downloaded though. Thanks!
Chimp (Tom)
I think there should be an instruction set in a folder called "necessary files".
Like I said, I haven't downloaded 18 yet, so I might be wrong.
14 works best for me but it comes in the diamond black/green colors which i'm not too fond of so I reverted back to the blue. It also doesn't include the N2A weather patch in order to add custom cities so I had to install that. Kind of a PIA but EVERYTHING works perfectly.
I had tried 15 and I think 16 on Nuerom but kept getting validation or permission errors when trying to install the actuall Manilla exe file at the end. So I went back to 14 which seemed to work fine.
Does 18 come with the weather patch included, and what color theme does it have? Is it the blue? Might have to try that one out.

Messed up Opera

Ok I fiddeled around too much and end of story deleted the settings file in the opera folder Settings.
Well I'd really love to get that file back, or even better the standard shipped opera touch hd version.
Can someone upload or tell me where to get it? Would be awesome.
Buttons are too small and the zoom levels are wrong.
Thanks.

I seem to be getting a messed up opera.
Everytime I open opera, it loads the page correctly in potrait, but then rotate the HD to get a fuller view of the web page that I am browsing, but all the sudden my phone pad opens. It seems that everytime that I am in opera and then I turn the phone sideways, the phone pad opens. How can I stop that? Its so annoying!!!
Previously, I had installed gyrator 2, but this app completely messed up everything, so I've decided uninstalled gyrator 2. Afterwards, I hard reset to make sure I got rid of gyrator 2 and did the usual of sync with my pc, etc.
I have also uninstalled HDtweaks, not sure what good would that be (maybe someone could clarify).
I have installed and customised my HD with:
S2U2-1.35-VGA.cab
1SdkCerts.cab
Colored Top bar WWE.cab
TFL3DIconsV3.cab
CorePlayer. V1.2.5 Build 4506
I noticed S2U2 on your software list... All I know is that S2U2 has Always, on Every phone I have tried it on, screwed something up. Don't get me wrong it is great software and probably not even the cause of your particular problem, but S2U2 has given me very strange and too much annoying problems to rule it out of anything.
The worst thing was lately when I decided to try it on the HD... I just hard reset my HD after having tried a million applications, tweaks, driver changes etc. So a clean start, and since S2U2 was so buggy for me in the past I decided to install it first, to completely rule out that it would perform crap because of any other aftermarket software.
For a little while it worked. Changed some settings, the thing always tended to get confused... so changed the settings to default. Couple of unlocks later... Nice, now I only see the background when I am trying to unlock my phone to make a friggin phone call... The program is called Slide To Unlock and ironically the slider is missing meaning I cannot access my phone. Not a single area on the screen responds, of course. Pressed home key, showing TouchFLO for 100ms before S2U2 takes over again. So in a window of 100ms, I had to press the tasks button on the top right to invoke the close all apps button... crap.
So I decided I'd wait for a more stable version, and tried to uninstall it, lol yes I said tried... On the Diamond, and also on the HD, somehow this has to take like 5 or 10 minutes, for a friggin tiny itsy bitsy <1mb installer package. It just hangs and hangs and you wonder has my phone crashed. Nice. This is just a small pick from the problems I had with the software.
Edit: This is probably not the fault of S2U2, but rather my phone not wanting any iPhone-lookalike software on it
problems still persist with opera. everytime i rotate the HD, it switches to phone pad.
i think as you said it may be a bug with S2U2, im gonna uninstall S2U2.
So far so good....

PointSense Suite V2

Is anyone else here thinking of trying this on their TP2 when it's released in a few days time? Looks good. IMHO.
http://community.pointui.com/topic/suite-video-preview-pointsense-suite-v2-make-it-mine
I'm going to try it, it looks awesome!
Well, I'm just trying this and it seems very good! The only problems I have/had are the time being and hour wrong (corrected) and a problem with the Bluetooth Widget showing on when it's not.
Here's a look:
I read in the forum that this is extremely slow?
It's certainly not extremely slow - it's smooth!
I had the issue with time being wrong (GMT not BTS), and when I installed it the bottom bar was like the default Home2 one. When didn't uninstall properly.
Overall, it looks very promising if it works well, but I'll wait till the issues are ironed out, then once it's working great may by Home2 Pro to fully benefit from this.
Lets hope others innovate as much as this with Home2!
I have tried to install it and managed to get point UI working but when I installed the pointsense theme it crashed and wouldn't complete the install, now it won't uninstall because not all the files are there, and it can't be deleted, i've tried total commander and memaid to get rid of it and the theme folders just won't budge, it stops any reinstall and then stops the pointUI program working, i've tried to clean out related registry files using memaid but and i can't find any reference to the files using file explorer or total commander but when I search for installed apps using memaid once again the "blueOcean" theme folder is there, the folders inside are ALL empty but I can't delete them.
it's basically left a bunch of locked dead folders on my phone that mean point UI won't work properly again. I don't want to hard reset so I'm not very happy about the screw up, i'm not getting anywhere on the pointui forum with this either.
I'm sorry, but I can't help other than to say backup all your contacts etc. do a hard reset and reinstall it.
It's working ok on my TP2 and is very smooth. The only problems I have is that Bluetooth shows that it's on all the time, the vibrate widget doesn't work and 1 or 2 random crashes - but I'm sure these will be fixed soon enough.
Hope you sort yours out.
thanks mate, i'm going to wait to see how they develop it over the next week or so, i think the bugs and crashes are more the theme than the point Ui app. it's been designed very quickly and released quick too.
I will continue to try to delete the BlueOcean folders, I don't want to hard reset yet as it's taken a while to get HTC's TF2 to look how I like it and to get rid of the annoying Vodafone look.
It's my work phone too and I don't want to spend loads of time messing with it.....got work to do
