Yes, the site is currently "unavailable". Since the tiff amongst the powers that be, there is currently no dcd downloads available.

This really seems like a shame. I am new to this forum site (as should be evident by my number of posts). I have done a ton of reading here and learned quite a bit. It seems like the activity in the TITAN threads has diminished since dcd was banned (and unbanned?). It would seem he has helped an awful lot of people in the past. I hope he comes back and is shown the appreciation he deserves. I have seen many ROMs and kitchens forked off of his work so it must be top notch stuff.
If for no other reason, I hope he comes back so I have someone to chat about Da Wings with.

this is being sorted
please bear with us.
thank you.

ur asking an awful lot from people. i can see however that you havent got the latest o2 update. go to http://www.my-xda.com/xdaexec_soft.html to update!
there is so much of this information on this forum that it isnt funny asking for it again.
I can see that you have only ever made 2 posts, so it would seem that your first forum is out of naivety rather than stupidity.
As such, here are some hints and a starting point for you. Please be aware, that there is quite a good search function if you take the time to look and can use the multiple fields to narrow down your search function.
You can also try the wiki ftp site if you just want some software and utilities to use. In the end though, you will find the best outcome and most stable device if you go and buy it.

Agreed, this has been posted a great many times, each trying to be the definitive post on all aspects of the Universal - something which I think is frankly impossible as no single post can cater for everything.
In the defence of somewhat overwhelmed newcomers, however, I do think it's time for x-d to be reorganised (how many times have we said this??) and broken down more specifically than just General, Upgrading and Accessories. There should also be beginners guides, for just this kind of thing.
@ brightming: the links provided above are a good starting point, read them all thoroughly!
Cheers
Ant
I've been (mostly) lurking here for a few months and I'd agree - it'd be fantastic to have 1) more specific/detailed forums under the Universal heading and 2) some well-written, clear guides for newcomers - particularly given the repetition and duplication of many subjects in different posts. An alternative place to have some good how-to type guides might be the wiki, especially considering that it appears to be underused at the moment. Any mods fancy tackling this?...

thx very much. it is so much help for me.

Can the abuse be toned down please?

Dunno what people's beef is on here ?
Yes there are new members and so on, but some of the foul mouthed attacks I have seen here is disgraceful.
If your mother/wife/daughter or whatever logged on here would you want her to be subjected to such abuse ? No? Thought so!
Tone it down please - if you don't have anything constructive to add to a post, don't bother.
If it makes you feel better about yourself because you feel superior as you know more about HTC/Windows mobile etc. than other people - go back to your ZX81 or whatever but please stop the swearing and nastiness.
Sorry, just never seen such animosity on a forum in my life!
I wish I could say I feel your pain man, but I am a noob as well however I feel the more seasoned vets on here are just tired of the same stupid repetitive questions typically posted by none other than us new guys. I am not saying its right but the way I see it, its kinda like having a little brother or sister that keeps asking the same question over and over and over again while your trying to get something done. My occupation is sales and has been for almost a decade and the first thing I always try and do is look at something from all sides. In doing this it A) Makes me do a search before asking and B) Not feel as bad if I get checked by someone. Just my .42. Additionally I have found if I really cannot find something then I will pm someone I feel is approachable and let them educate me.
From what I have seen lately, the "abuse" has toned down big time around here, were you recently flamed or something, that made you think this?

I agree. The replies on this site have become MUCH more mature, helpful, and professional in the last few weeks.
I hope you're not referring to 'now' ... or maybe you're reading through the historical posts to avoid getting flamed.
This is another reason why, no matter how many times a question's been asked, the old-timers should carefully think about the legacy their words will leave behind on these forums.
I find the repeated questions unbearable sometimes, too. But the historical traces of the blatant abusive and immature replies will live with these boards for a very long time, making it unlikely that anyone will like to search for an answer before posting the same question over and over and over and....

They make the choice to read the questions then respond in an abusive manor. Its not like a brother or sister who hunt you down to annoy you. I have tried searching for a good tutorial on how to build packages and what not to build my own ROM but the usual thread I see is, "Google It and learn it the way I did." It almost like no one really wants to share their knowledge on certain areas of ROM building. I've tried googling etc. But I have still not run across a decent tutorial. I'd be willing to help make a tutorial if I knew the complete process. I've seen others claim this forum is for XDA "developers" and if you are not a developer you should look elsewhere for "help." The only way to become a developer is to learn. Most people learn by reading and asking questions. I just don't understand why people insist on berating others for asking innocent questions. I have searched for answers before and not found it. Then later I am reading a thread and I do see the answer to my question but it was not worded the way I say things possible because of language differences. So it slipped throught the cracks of the search. Should I be verbally abused for asking my question? Probably not, especially seeing as how the diversity on this forum is great. Many different primary languages and knowledge levels. It seems like before ROM cooking for Hermes was possible people were all fine and cordial with each other. Then boom, cooked ROMs became possible and it turned into if you cant help me finish my ROM and let me put the donte link in my signature I don't want to help you.
Well thats my take.
PS- if someone helps me grasp the art of ROM building I will make a tutorial and do my best to make it simple to understand for everybody.

By the way, they do hunt people down with PM, e-mail, IM, etc...
Here my take
The Art of ROM building does not happen overnight and it is not for everyone. You are also correct there are no A-Z tutorials on how to do it. Nonetheless, there is a lot of information on how to get your feet wet. It requires certain skill set in order to develop good cooked ROM.
Skill set: Search and Read both threads and wiki, Development (someone with a development background is preferred), Cab (building and extracting) PPC registry, Windows Mobile OS (understanding how things work), device infrastructure (understanding how things work with that particular device, because they are not all made equal), understanding you could brick your expensive device with the one wrong turn. Most important patience and keep you changes to a minimum until you get the hang of it.
The list of requirements can go on but I figure with the above information you should have an idea. It takes months of reading, searching, and trying things out in order to understand how to cook. While you are researching you also want to keep with new findings, that means you have to stay on top of up coming new threads. It is a crazy cycle and some of us can keep up with it but I assure you it is not for a lot PPL.
Oh, I forgot one more thing, you also have keep up with your full time job (you know, the one you get paid for).
Thank You
lpsi2000: Thank you. I almost have it down. The only issue I had was one of my apps did not make the start menu icon and I posted it in a thread directed towards one of the kitchens and thus far has been ignored for a week or so. I posted what I put in the initflashfiles.dat etc. It makes a shortcut but appears as a folder link to the /Windows directory and not a shortcut to the EXE. I will get it eventually though.
DAFTEK: I totally agree. Why say use search or the wiki when you could post a link to the search results or the exact thread.
mrvanx: Yes, you are always very helpful.
Thank You all.

The way I get around some of the issues with applications not working properly, I flashed the ROM, take a copy of device registry and files then install the app on the device and then compare it to see what was changed. From there I normally address it with my cooked ROM.
I must disagree with this comment " DAFTEK: I totally agree. Why say use search or the wiki when you could post a link to the search results or the exact thread." although I have done it at time when the search is not obvious.
If you spoon feed the search every time, then the person will never learn how to search. I have seen PPL on this board expecting other people to do search for them and also provide the answers. Trust me there are a lot of lazy people on this forum.

You know I would go easy just everytime my faith is restored in the people here the stupid bug seems to bite again. like asking questions that where answerd in a post right above or someone wanting to be spoon fed its almost to the point where no one wants to do anything for themselves. that's pretty sad if you ask me im sure most of the cooks here did not receive the amount of help that has been given in just the past month. I understand helping people but I also understand earning respect and until that's done give me a reason why I should spoon feed when there is a search button and google.

why create another thread in 'Hermes Mobile 6', this should be put in the 'General Section'
and as far as i have seen it the abuse has been dramatically in the past few weeks
Sometimes the abuse is (IMHO) justified.
This post generally makes my blood boil http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311698 - the asshole keeps appearing in many guises, doesn't want to help but only make money. If this is the first post you see when you log on you get pissed off, then get carried away with the 'Flashing LSVW bricked my V3' type of threads.
In my opinion, ronfin44 was perfectly justified in (mildly) flaming this guy.

Maybe we need a place where someone can ask a question without worrying about being called an idiot. Good information on this forum, but not very inviting. If the x7501 blows up someday, I can't see this forum helping all the people who will have the same questions we had a couple months back. -- "Search, moron!" is not so helpful. The Wizard XDA forum was a nice place to visit, but the Athena forum not so much.
But answering the same questions is even more annoying if you have to do that on many boards. If we limits the number of sites, we limit the number of "stupid question".
And you can't get people to behave even if you use more sites. I agree that "search, stupid" is not a good answer at all.

If people are told to search, it is so as to not waste everyone else's time when the exact same question has been answered before and there is a very powerful search engine (whether the vbulletin engine or Google) and where there is a growing wiki and where there is a sticky on each thread which asks you to do so. Is that unreasonable?

I wonder about that myself. But I guess that site would be for the regular users that want to ask the same questions over and over. The site does look interesting, but I would not want to deal with the same questions over and over. I guess we will see how it turns out.

I have no comment on the new site. It may be a good thing, time will tell.
* "Some threads have many pages..."...this will happen to your forum as time goes on, it's a forum.
* Good point on the Wiki. I think it stalled because there wasn't progress or development going on with the device. Now that we have devices in the hands of the developers the Wiki should come to life. Why not post this significant concern as a topic? Mackaby posted his concern about stalls in development for the Athena. He started a movement and reinforced the foundation in place thus making it stronger for the community, sparking more interest and accomplishing a goal that only a few believed in. The Wiki does need work, let's start a movement and get it fixed. As a group we accomplished the feat of getting TWO very expensive devices for developers to spark development. Getting the Wiki going is free and I'm sure we can get the ball rolling on this once we bring attention to it. I'm glad you mentioned this bro!
* Maybe your site will be a good entry point for newbies. When they graduate they come to xda-developers.com and play with the big boys.

Ah, I thought it was your site. LOL, sorry.
I like the way the colors are easy on the eyes and how the threads are seperated with dividers. Made my eyes feel better
Let's get all the senior people involved and developers and get the Wiki updated. Right now my time is VERY limited because I'm slammed at work but if we work in shifts, i'm sure we can pull it off. Let's get Midget involved and others. The Wiki is where we should be referring all newbies to if it were updated. It should be the repository of knowledge which excludes all the BS in the looooooooooooong threads you mentioned. If we update the Wiki and do our job as a community, maybe it'll cut down on the crap being posted. Furthermore, we can reply with please read the Wiki first (which should be easy), second search and third come back and we'll be glad to help you out, that's what this forum is all about.

Nice approach. This is reasonable.

ROM-Dev madness!

Foreword: I mean this in the most constructive way possible. While I'm not a <android> developer, it occurs to me that with the wealth of Android ROM-devs and an excellent base of testers (like myself, an unexcellent but present tester), there has to be a better way.
I love XDA-Dev as a resource, and it's been a godsend since I got my MT3G. I've had the opportunity to use some very well done builds which have been time-invested by their developers. I've learned a lot about my device, and am beginning to understand Android as a platform. Here's the beef:
Some ROM-posts are 1000+ pages long. While I could read all 1000+ pages if warranted, it's simply inefficient. What information am I after? I want to know:
Does it work on my phone?
What's the latest version?
Where's it at?
Are there any specific bugs on my phone with this build?
Who else is using this build, and what hardware are they using?
What bugs are being worked on?
What workarounds are applicable to this build?
What bugs are open and need community feedback?
etc...
Is there some sort of bug-tracking setup that could be used to facilitate this? I don't mean or intend to steer *anything* away from XDA-Developers, per se, but this current forum method doesn't seem very conducive to making forward progress.
<shrug> I know, I know, I'm a noob around here and should just work with the herd. I've seen other comments touching on some of these issues, so I thought I'd throw it out there. I apologize if it's been brought up before and shot down.
Hey, what about this? I was looking for a semi-authoritative list of Android ROMs that matched what I outlined above and came across it.
If I had the resources I'd volunteer time/materials to help the cause in that light, but being the schmuck I am (ya' know, working full time and school part time), I can't offer anything substantive. So while this might sound like a gripe, maybe it will compel someone else to make some magic happen. That, or have my account disabled
Any thoughts?
I understand where you are coming from.. but I don't find it that hard to find the rom and information I am after.. all it takes is a little time..
Why not help out by adding to the wiki?
I dont see how this has to do with development, you are just as guilty as the people you speak of.

I think it has everything to do with development, advancement of the builds flying around here, and support of the folks that put their time into it.
Maybe you misinterpreted what I was saying, but I surely wasn't trying to assign guilt to anyone. Things are the way they are because they got that way - doesn't make it right, 'doesn't make it wrong. I just thought maybe there's a better way to support the community.
It's all good.

I dont see how this has to do with development, you are just as guilty as the people you speak of.

It's this kind of attitude that is putting a lot of people off. The OP has made some very good and valid points and deserves at least a response to the points he has made, not just a one sentence put down.

if there is Confusion about information regarding development, please read this.

I know alot of people are looking around wondering if there are roms, hacks, etc. well the people over at www.thriveforums.org have all of the latest intel on all of that. Customs roms, hacks, apps and anything about the thrive in general. we need to convince them to move their efforts to XDA. that way, everyone will have all of the same information all at once.
Be careful about posting links to other sites that require registration. Even if there is no info on this site to be had. Only say because I got a very stern warning when I tried to help someone out by directing them elsewhere.
Same here. I also got a warning. I only come here to help people with answers, but I do all my development at ThrivesForum.org. No links here, just the site name. So far, I have not gotten amonished for that.

oh, i actually didnt know that. just trying to help out my fellow XDA guys. Paul i would really like to help out with whatever needs helping with. Beta testing, fixes, ideas, brainstorming, PM me if you are interested and ill give you a little bit of my background.
Back in late September I felt bad for buying a tablet that had little development, but then I realised that it was all done on thrive forums lol. It's actually really nice having a dedicated website with people like Dalepl.
