Verizon X1: Unlocked? - XPERIA X1 General

Hi. I finally bought the Xperia x1i a few days ago. But i noticed it said "Verizon" on the back. Also, there are a few Verizon apps like "Verizon Live", which seems i cant remove.
Right now im not in my country so X1 couldnt fully recognize my network, but it did answer to my Minutes Credit request properly.
Im not sure if this is fully unlocked, and if it is, if there could be any problems with my cellphone using ANY of its respective functions. Would it??
Please answer i would thank you a lot!!!

If the phone is accepting your non-verizon sim then it isn't locked.
However your ROM may have some custom verizon settings which you don't like, most can be removed via registery editing.
Another option is to head over to the ROM section of this forum, you find ways to install the generic ROM, or even custom made versions.

Oh well i thought of that! But how risky is it to install roms for someone who simply has no idea of that or programing? Im not stupid, but i would be good if there was a step by step tutorial. Are there any?

HTC Hero Telus - BASICS

Ok, got my HTC Hero Telus, but am kind of overwhelmed by the root and terms used.
Can somenoe just briefly fill me in, what does ROM actually mean and do?
I've been searcing the forums, and found a bunch of updates for RADIO on the Hero, what is this for? What are these updates for?
What's best way to start rooting, and how to learn all these ROMs, Radio, and other terms?
THANKS!
Welcome to XDA!
A ROM is the operating system on the phone. It's called ROM because it gets installed to the phone's "Read Only Memory." There are custom ROMs to replace the stock one, you'll find those in the Hero Android Development forum. This forum also has plenty of posts about how to root/flash your phone.
The radio is the firmware that goes into the phone's radio device. Generally it's best to have the latest radio version installed, currently it's the JU version found in the Official Radio ROMs link in the Hero Android Development forum.
As far as the Telus Hero itself is concerned, there are a couple threads about it in the "Hero General" and "Hero Q&A" forums. Any common problem should be tackled in one of those threads. I think I was the first one to root a Telus Hero (unless someone kept quiet about it) so I've been through just about every Telus-specific issue that has arisen. If you go through those threads and still have questions, I'll be happy to help... but please look through the forums first.
EDIT: Start on page 2 of this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=576826
Thanks for the response Craig, you definitely cleared it up for me.
I'm using the TELUS hero on AT&T, so is there anything different regards the root and radio update process because I'm on AT&T?

That shouldn't make a difference to the radio/root flashing process... However, I have no idea what it'll take to put an AT&T SIM card in a Telus Hero. I know it can be done, I just don't know the steps since I'm using mine on Telus.
Also, a lot of the issues that show up in that thread I linked you to are Telus-specific, so that might not help you as much as I originally hoped.
Good luck!

Using the phone on AT&T is really simple. Nothing like the complicated steps you have to do to goldcard/downgrade/root the phone. I'm using a white Telus Hero on AT&T, and didn't have any problems.
One question, though. How'd you buy it? If you bought it "unlocked" from a website like ImportGSM, then all you have to do is open the back of your old phone, take out the SIM card, and put it in the Hero. If you bought it on eBay, had somebody in Canada ship it to you, or bought it yourself from a Telus store/Best Buy/etc., then you need to unlock it first. You can get the unlock code from a number of websites, thought you'll have to pay for it. Then put your SIM card in as above and the phone will prompt you for it. After you put in the code, you're good to go!
If you want to use the internet or MMS, then there's actually one more step. You have to put in the APN settings, which tell the phone how to access the network. They can be found in the forum somewhere or by Googling for "AT&T APN".
Ya I'm using it on AT&T works fine, but I'm trying to root it but not having any luck!

Oh, ok! Sorry, I can't help you there. I'm waiting till I've got some sort of backup of the firmware that came on the phone (Or some other official upgrade meant for the North American model) before going through the process to root the phone & load a custom ROM. Just a personal preference

Confused with phone unlocking

Ok, so I've been trying to examine what I've done but i don't know. The problem is, I unlocked my phone to all networks for free, how, I don't know, I only rooted it and installed/restored 3-4 ROM's. I didn't mess with digging on system files etc. I tryed to do this on the same friend's X8 and it didn't work. So, have I burned something or what? Very interesting, huh..
P.S. I buyed it new and it wasn't unlocked.
Are your phone and your friend's phone the same model? If not, that's the answer. Not all phones can be unlocked by flashing a new ROM. For example, my dad's phone worked for that effect. (A ZTE Blade) But my phone (A Sony Ericsson Xperia X8) doesn't work for that effect.
If I helped you, press the "THANKS" button!
Quite interesting.
Gonna try this with my x8.
Well according to other user, the SIM lock is included in the bootloader or the kernel I don't know exactly so something must have happend to them.
Also are you 100% sure that your phone was locked to a single carrier?
i dont think that its possible to unlock a phone through installing custom roms, unless the phone that the custom rom was developed on was unlocked? :S

SIM-lock info is stored in TA. It's hashed.
Baseband/radio reads this info. Radio handles SIM-card. It's hashed too (amss.sin/fota.sin).
Nothing can be done from within Android system to bypass this.
Yes, my friend's phone & mine are exactly the same. We even buyed it in the same store. One guy told me that unlocking with ROM is imposible and that's truth but in the other way he said that I burned radio controller or something like that.
@pandza94 Yes, I'm 100% sure, I tried with another SIM card and it didn't work (when i buyed the phone)

It's bought not buyed.
And this is impossible. You cant burn anything when flashing rom.

You are not the only one that unlocked x8 on that way.
I bought xperia x8 in tele2 and it was locked. I tryed other operators sim card but it didnt work.
But after flashing rom (instaling custom rom) I got my phone unlocked. Dont know how I do it but I do it ( I didnt know that I can do that, I just wanted to install custom rom)
@r4z0ry I bought it in bonbon option, but they have same delivery as tele2. I'm not so smart about android developing etc. but maybe ROM can acces those amss.sin/fota.sin files and unlock them? Sorry if I asked a stupid question
I dont know
I just bought form tele2 and I tryed to insert bonbon (tmobile) sim card but it wasnt accepted, but after rooting (or rooting and flashing) I tryed to insert bonbon sim and it worked, so I know that I unlocked x8 but dont know how

I have been searching everywhere, NO RECOVERIES?

I have been all over xda, google, & youtube and I cannot find any working recoveries for AT&T Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N899A). Am I missing it somewhere? Am I blind or something? I really apologize for asking cause I figure it's an easy answer but, does anybody know how to download and set up a recovery on a rooted SM-N900A?
Anything will help,
Thank you,

1. Wrong forum.
2. My condolences, your bootloader is locked. However, give a goddamn HUGE thanks to @Hashcode - he made this lil' thing - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2572978 . I used a Galaxy S4 (the AT&T variety) with a locked bootloader, Safestrap was the only thing that saved us.

That is not actually such a bad idea, most best hackers end up working for companies they hacked and make pretty good salaries. The latest one is the guy who came out with towellroot, I hear he is working for Google now.

Cant unlock

Total noob, so any and all help very much appreciated. I had an issue with my phone not booting, so after lots of tricks and tips I was still stuck in a bootloop. I ended up finding an image and followed the instructions and voila my phone boots, all be it wiped and needing all apps and such installed. However I soon realized my phone is no longer unlocked. so now I cant use my Straight talk sim card. I need help ASAP if possible and more than willing to compensate anyone who can help me get my phone and txt messaging working again. Im pretty versed in PC stuff, as I work in IT, but I have never done any phone moding or flashing until now, so detailed explanations would be great, or if needed we can link up using a remote software program or FB. Thanks!

Meabrams, thanks for your reply but I am not sure what I need at this point. Not sure by what you mean by "big red", is that another site? I wish I could explain to somone over the phone what is going on, but have no resources to contact for this kind of help. I did to the process listed in the link: Tutorial] Unlock ALL bands on xt907 (moto_msm8960) with no success. I will check out the other post and see if I get any further. Any assistance or help you may know of is much appreciated. Im hoping to transfer my phone to temporary straight talk phone until this is fixed, just hope I dont have to send it off to someone.
Edit....Ok my device is rooted (dont know for sure but I have super user installed (full version of SU)) and I can play apps that are not Google approved. I tried the Motopocalypse and cant get any further. Does it matter what version of Android i have? currently this phone is on 4.4.2 BUT I dont really care if it stays on that version...Do I /Can I go back to the 4.1 version I had before? I believe it was the stock version of the phone's android system by not positive as i bought this phone unlocked. I would contact the seller but they have disappeared from ebay.

Flashing Firmware via Fastboot
You mentioned you are stucked at the initial setup screen. This implies that you need to reflash the stock ROM. Please visit this link to read my post containing instructables to successfully flash stock ROM.
Q. Can I unlock bootloader?
No. As of KDA 20.62 15.1 update, the Trust Zone vulnerability has been fixed which allowed exploit to work.
Q. Can I root?
Yes! Head to this thread to root (install SU) on your RAZR.
Q. Can I downgrade?
Unfortunately no! You are stucked permanently with the Kitkat flavour.
US GSM Carrier Unlock
The method is fairly long but easy. Head to the thread here to unlock US GSM carriers which will allow you use Straight Talk.

Dude, if you can't do a little research, then i strongly suggest you avoid attempting to modify your phone. Sorry to sound rude, im having a bit of a face palm moment from your question.
You're not sounding rude. A lot of people on this forum wants to be spoon-fed, and that's not going to help them in the long run. They need a smack on the head and get taught how to search.
If you can find a way of unlocking the bootloader you could give it a try. Probably brick you phone yes.

I think he was trying to point out that it should go without saying that you shouldn't even think about flashing other firmware than the one designed for your actual model. It never ends well.
I think he just wants to root his phone, and thinks that somehow this process involves getting the single sim firmware.
To be able to root you first need to unlock the bootloader. Currently only allowed by LG on the unbranded US and EU versions. NOT possible on any other version, unless someone finds an unofficial way around it in the future.
I haven't tried it, but I doubt you will brick it, most likely it will just reject it, but I agree it's not a good idea to try it without knowing.
All those guys talking about spoon feeding people... if you know the answer to the question just answer it, if you don't know the answer shut up.
I reached this thread doing research and rather than finding information I find your rant.
