G1 Stuck At SPL - G1 General

So my buddie got some grape drank in his brand new g1.
Cleaned out all residue and sticky stuff. Powered up and i all i get is the SPL Screen? (the Tricolor Screen).
Tried all kinds of flashes and rom upgrades.
Any Ideas?
I think she's toast but I'd like to resurrect this beezy phone

Probably the camera button is stuck, or the microswitch under it is short circuited. Check to see if that button is stuck against the chassis. If it's not, grab the service manual, disassemble the phone and use iso alcohol to clean the microswitch.

I Checked the camera button. i even took out the dome that makes the connection and still goes to SPL Tricolor Screen.
I think something has gone bad because of the liquid damage but could it be just a software thing?

Did you ever fix this
What was the outcome? Because I have the same problem, and never got my phone wet. After an OTA update to donut, it just got stuck at SPL

just do goldcard update

what is a goldcard update?

Go back to the old SPL?

Do I loose my warranty if i change my SPL? My screen stopped working now, and I do not have my original SPL on my TyTN. I am a little bit afraid that I will not get a new one on the warranty. The thing that happened is that it rained on my Tytn.

Unfortunately, you may be out of luck anyway. Water damage is usually not covered (I think there is a way for the repair center to verify water intrusion with an indicator decal inside the phone that changes color or simething similar.)
But, if the screen does not come on at all they may not be able to verify your SPL anyway so you might as well try sending it in. All they can do is reject your claim and give you a repair estimate.
My phone works again !
But i still want to send it in the repair. The qwerty keyboard has always been bad and i have to allign the screen all the time.
So.. How to go back to the old SPL? (do I have to btw?)
What the person above said still rings true if your screen works again -- they're going to see that the phone has had water damage.
If you want to proceed with changing the SPL, you'll find everything you need to know about this in the Wiki.
mrvanx.org has a great how-to for this. and yes, you should put it back. they *may+* not notice, but if they do, they will probably not honor the warranty. same with rom, radio and ipl.
regarding water, the indicator is usually in the battery compartment. looks like a small foam rubber square - very small. probably less than a centimeter square. what color is yours? they *will* check that.

Hermes Brick Due to Coca Cola

My friends Hermes took a Coke bath and the screen isn't working right. You can power up the phone, Keyboard lights up, the screen has a backlight but no Images. It reacts to the keyboard opening and tapping on the screen but no images. Tried a hard reset and a soft reset but no change. It "seems like it is going through the whole boot process by the indicators and it vibrates when it should be at the point of starting WM. Dont know exactly how to open the screen up to see if it is just a connector clogged up with coke. Any help is greatly appreciated
Heres the disassembly instructions. It fairly easy. Next time try the search function...

Cheers...
I had found the disassembly procedure after I posted. Opened it up today and there was zero evidence of any liquid ever being in the phone. I cleaned each of the connectors, the boards, and case, but there was no change when I reassembled the phone. I thing the board that runs the screen is fried or the screen itself. Is there any way of testing these theories without new replacement parts?
I would take it apart clean all he connections on the LCD ribbon cable. Using denatured alcohol. If you have anymore questions let me know.

Suggestion for a fix..

So my Titan has been on the fritz for some time. It started with the front keypad " up " button becoming hard to register. My screen, upon startup goes white, phone is responsive however. So the rom does boot up. this problem was sporadic, until one day powering on an off did not fix the problem. Before the screen stayed white, I lost the ability to open the keypad without the phone's screen freezing. I could slide the keypad maybe a quarter of an inch open, any further an it froze. So, my question is, What could be causing this problem, an, what could be a possible fix? I have already loaded up a rom on it hoping this would remedy the problem, no joy. It is a sprint titan, flashed to cricket, currently loaded is dcd 3.3.4 with a hardspl I believe. Open to any an all fix's. I will try an post back. Would like to get it fixed so I can sell it.thank you all for your time.
Time for a new phone sounds like a hardware failure when roms don't fix the problem
It sounds like it is your ribbon cable... you can get them online, and they aren;t overly expensive if yo ucan replace it yourself...
ok, the ribbon cable. I'm somewhat handy with things. does anyone know of a guide for opening up this phone?
there are a couple of good ones on youtube
but you will need a small torx and small philips screw drivers. Like ones that work on glasses

HD2 Screen Backlight Problem?

Hey guys! I have searched the forums and haven't found a problem quite like this yet. Recently, I got some water on my phone, but was able to wipe it off, and it worked fine, and the water damage indicators on the phone are still white. During that day though, after rebooting the phone, the screen appeared to not turn on, so i thought it WAS water related damage, of course.
I put the phone in rice for a few days, and NOTHING, till one day i looked at the phones screen under intense light.
The phone vibrates after you power it on, but then that's all you get, but upon further inspection under a bright light you can see the MAGLDR boot screen come up, and load all the way to the GO GO GO part, then it freezes and stops.
The screen is still black, and there's no light at all, you have to hold it DIRECTLY under bright light to see it.
I am ..or was...running the android NexusHD2 gingerbread 2.2 NAND (2.3.2) rom with MAGLDR 1.12 installed.
I can get into the boot menu, and all the hard buttons work. I can even play tetris, when i can see it. >.>
The MAGLDR seems to work fine, the android doesnt work, or load anyway.. I an go into USB flasher, option 5 on the boot menu, and reload android, but it does not resolve the problem.
Any suggestions oh wise XDA members?
I am not an expert when it comes to the hardware side of tbe HD2, bjt I am learning. It kinda sounds like you may have got some water inside the unit either through the speaker opening t the top of the front of the phone or in around the small openimgs around the buttons at the bottom of the front of the phone. My bet is it was the buttons cuase this is close to the digitizer. And it sort of sounds like the digitizer is malfuncting.
Seeing as you have tried reflashing the ROM the only real sugestion I got is maybe get you a small hex head screwdriver and open up your HD2. Take the mainboard out and the digitizer out and very lightly use a hair dryer on the low setting to try and dry them out. make sure to bold the dryer a good distance from them cause you do not want to get them hot just dry them out.
Now you still have a waranty I would just do a warranty exchange or have them repair it. If you don't have a warranty and don't want to try this I do not blame you. It is just the only idea I have. You can always find a cell phone repair shop and have them do it.
Best of luck.
This happened to me too. My HD2 was completely submerged, but luckily for me I had the torx needed to immediately open it up. I didn't use a dryer, but I did towel it off. Then I just left it off and apart for 5 days before I actually put in the battery and turned it on. I did have to replace the screen because it cracked to hell, but my main concern was knowing that it would still function. Good Luck.
Okay, I contacted HTC today after reinstalling winmo 6.5 stock for the HD2, A guy named bob told me I could send it in and have it repaired covered by HTC. My guess is that because the water damage indicators are white, they shouldn't void me, right?
I am guessing it IS the digitizer because of the following reasons.
Winmo works fine, though the sim card will need to be replaced, which is no problem. the touch screen does not function and the screen is still black and wont light up, but winmo boots successfully, like I said, viewing under bright light.
I think I am going to try and send it to HTC, if they say its void, then I am going to try repairing the digitizer, as the tmo digitizers are readily available now. Before that though, I will try your suggestion T-Macgnolia.
I'll post my results soon!

HTC HD2 Not Working!!

I bought the HTC HD2 when it first came out and i absolutely loved it!! however I had to get rid of it because I needed the money for an emergency. however I just came upon someone who was selling the HTC HD2 for a reasonable price. and I bought it in a rush because I have missed the phone and wanted to get started playing on it right away!!
BUTT
It doesnt work.. im guessing its water damaged because whoever sold it to me took out all the water damage stickers. So.. heres what happens. When i plug it into the charger. The Flash comes on for about 5 seconds and either the buttons light up or the phone vibrates until i take out the battery.
I know I was stupid for buying the phone without checking it. So flame flame flame ALL you want. I just want this fixed!!
btw. The guy i bought it for wont answer his phone so just screw it.
thanks
Oh wow. im noob.. I havent been on here for so long that i forgot the rules of the forum!! could someone help me re-title or just delete post? once again. i apologize.
Ok first just click on the edit button at the bottom of any post of yours to edit it. To edit the title just click edit on your first post and then click advanced and then you can edit the title.
As for your problem can you get to the red, blue, green, and white booloader screen by holding the volume down button down and while you power your HD2 on?
If you can get to bootloader then flashing might help buit it really sounds more like a hardware problem.
Check your battery pins and make sure none of them are slightly bent. Also very very lightly wiggle each pin just a little then try to boot the phone.
If you can not get to the bootloader or even get it to the first splash screen, and by that I pretty much mean get it to even light up the sceen showing it did turn on then it is bricked.
Post back with the results as I can put you in touch with someone to JTAG it if it is bricked.
Thank you so much!!
No.. the screen actually doesnt not light on or anything.
I have noticed the the battery pins were slightly bent and when i wiggled it a little and then put the battery back on Its started vibrating but the screen still doesnt light up
I sent you a PM with info on who to talk to about JTAG. Soprry someone sold you a bricked HD2.
if it's really water damage, then i don't think it's jtag fixable.
jtag is being used when you have a corrupt bootloader that cannot start the phone. The bootloader resides at the beginning of the nand memory, after something called steppingstone (a small - about 4kb portion of memory that is loaded into ram memory and then executes the bootloader program).
So when you use jtag, you invoke another thing, called watchdog, a CPU function, that once invoked, will halt loading the steppingstone into ram memory. Once this is done, the phone will remain in "service mode" until the next restart. With jtag, you can load the bootloader back into nand memory at it's corresponding address and then normally flash the phone.
But, jtag requires you have a working cpu, ram and nand memory because basically jtag does at a more "lower level" what you do when you flash the phone. If your hd2 suffered some water damage, i doubt (based on what you say it's been doing since you tried to start it) that it can simply be restored by jtag.
The phone should first be disassembled and it's motherboard be cleaned by a powerful solvent in a ultrasonic cleaner. If the phone was dropped in a salty or sugary kind of liquid, although the water in it will evaporate, the salt/sugar will dry up and remain in crystal state among the pins or connectors of the motherboard. Both salt/sugar are electrically conductors so the phone's normal operations will be affected by various short circuits between pins or such stuff. If you're lucky, cleaning will solve the problem, if not.. the motherboard could be damaged physically because of those short circuits.

Thanks for that great explanation facdemol! I have never JTAGed a device before so I did not know about the Watchdog fuction. I also did not know about the Steppingstone I thought the IPL loaded the SPL which is pretty much the what bootloader is, I know it is more to it then that but that is just to generalize it. Or is the IPL what you are callin g Steppingstone?
Anywqay you are probably right about if it is truly from water or some other liquid damage. But since the OP is not 100% sure that is the cause I would suggest trying JTAG first and if that does not work then just replace the the main board cause not everybody is as good at DIY as you are man.
