Hi Folks,
The bottom red/green phone buttons and the ones next to them have suddenly stopped working, together with the top browser and email buttons. The central pad and the side buttons still work fine.
I have tried a soft reset and also pulling out the battery fo a few minutes to no avail.
I think one of the keys may be stuck down as now the backlight also stays on all the time while on battery and it's set to turn off after 10 secs.
I can report the phone as faulty (had it about 60 days) and get a replacement but just wondered 2 things:
1) Anyone else had this (and managed to fix it)?
2) Is there a diagnostics mode I can invoke that will do a manual or automatic button/stuck button test?
Thanks.
I now have this same issue- and after a hard reset am looking to send my device back to HTC... unless anyone else has has this issue and found a solution???
Here's hoping someone has....!
Edit: Looks like this is not so much of an uncommon problem- 3 or 4 other people in this forum have had the same issues. Any solutions anyone?
Update- despite having had no effect with a hard reset, ROM re-install, battery removal etc, my buttons have now suddenly decided to work again (????)
My hypothesis- it's something to do with my 2GB Sandisk card- when I'm using the card, I have occaisonal lockups, programs starting by themselves etc. However, this might be a tenuous link, as the buttons did not come back to life when I removed the card...
I guess I'll just have to keep an eye on the workings of them over the next few days. But if anyone else suffers from this issue, do a hard reset, take your battery out for ~6 hours, and then try again. I can't say it "worked" for me, but that's what I did, and they now work again.
Apologies that I seem to be writing this thread all on my own ;-)
I have had something similar happen. And my keyboard locks up.
Not sure what is causing it, but I am pretty sure it is something I installed that messed with the reg conflicting with something else.
Odd thing on mine is the phone key opens up the cammera... and I can reset it by hitting OK after closing the camera.
But a hard reset solves it so I just have to be methodical to figure out what is causing it.
EDIT: Turned out it was my case causing my problems. To much preasure was being applied to buttons during a soft reset causing all sorts of problems. Sorry I could not help.
Hello
my KJam started having a strange behaviour so I hard reset it
Now when I wake it up from stand by it opens me pocket outlook.
After it the cursor buttons are dead. If I click the central button I get the align screen program
If I click the communication wizard button and then close the communication screen everything seems normal again until I put it in stand by and wake up it
I've been using it for months installing nothing so I don't understand what happen
Thanks
i don't know what to say, you have a very unusual problem, try taking the battery out for about half n hour 2 an hour, then retry. if that doesn't work, i'd suggest update your rom.
hope u get it sorted

Anyone else have this problem? Sometimes, if the screen goes to sleep, when I wake it back up, the touchscreen is unresponsive. I have to soft reset to get it to start up again. Any ideas on how to fix it?
I had the same problem, and flashed another rom, and problem gone.
Hello guys,
I was just searching through the forum with this exact problem and found this thread.
If the phone wakes up from sleep the touchscreen is unresponsive for a few seconds. If I insist to press it it only takes longer for it to respond. This is a very big problem because I sometimes miss calls because I can't answer them. Not even the for hard buttons don't work (maybe because they are also touchscreen).
I've tried flashing different ROM's (Miri, Dutty, NRG) even flashed back to the standard one and again back to a 6.5 one (as I saw this step fixes a lot of problems for some people) but the result is the same. I'm running out of ideas.
I don't think it's a hardware issue because if i leave the phone until the backlight dims and touch it, it goes back on, so it registers the press but doesn't act on it.
It's a very serious and I'm hoping someone here has a solution.
Nobody else is having this issue? Is there no hint on what is going wrong with our phones?
It appears it's happening more and more often and the screen is dead for more and more time.
Hi
I have had the same problem but solved tonight
There are many threads about this but no real solution I tried them all.
My first HD lasted till last week when I had to replace it because of a "Newton Ring" problem. In 10 months of ownership I got a screen freeze maybe 5 times.
My new replacement arrived last Saturday - same original Orange Rom and radio.
I have loaded exactly the same programs from the old phone and have found that when I put it in sleep mode via the power button its a 50/50 chance of it waking up. Receiving a text message does not wake it up either.
I can hear the volume control working and the haptic buttons provide feedback - but black screen. If I hold the power button down I get the bleep to ask if I want to power the device off - then all goes dead. If I wait 5 minutes the haptic buttons/volume buttons work again and the screen comes alive revealing the yes/no option to power off.
Also strange whilst in this locked state the orange charging light comes on - when it goes off I know i can wake the screen up !
I tried :
Enabling and disabling the Today Screen timeout
Auto adjust backlight off and on
Different screen brightness
Manual/default operator selection
Checked HD Tweaks settings were correct in registry and things I can't remember.
What has worked :
Start - Settings - System - Power - Advanced and unchecked the box "turn off device if not used for 5 minutes"
The daft thing is this was enabled on my old phone and would always wake up with a text/call or power button push !
What has changed ?

Update - Found the problem
Whilst the above fixed my freeze problem it has been bugging me why - as the advanced power features are useful and I don't always remember to hit the power button to sleep the device.
I have now realized what was not set up the same as my old phone.
No start up password !
To enable this I found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5004821 and changed my registry setting to 0.
This immediately takes you to the lock screen where you can now enter your password details and make them stick.
I now have a start up password and can set the timeout to 24hrs.
All the power settings now work correctly - and no screen freeze

Spoke too soon
3 hours ago went to use my phone - black screen
Connected via activesync and MyMobileR.
Rebooted and got the "Microp Version Mismatch 0" message.
Checked out threads about this error on the mainly Diamond forum and can confirm my screen is well and truly dead.
Contacted Orange and they are sending another replacement tomorrow.
What p*sses me off is the number of hours I have spent to get one normal days use.

Sorry to keep posting to this thread - but I am hoping that my experiences may help somebody
As said I am getting a replacement tomorrow and in one of the threads a guy said put it in the fridge for 20 minutes !
Well I thought what the h*ll and did.
Wrapped it in some tissues to absorb the condensation when I took it out - replaced the battery and it works - no Microp message and has behaved ok for 6 hours.
Got to be a hardware issue ?
Your thoughts.............

Hi Bigfish,
please let me know the phone is still ok after more hours out of the fridge. i have similar problem on my HTC touch- ELF and i have been searching for solution, and i found this
http://www.fixya.com/support/t982721...not_responding .
i do not have tools to open it myself and would like to try it.
if you r familiar with it please let me know.
cheers
M.
Hi
Sorry your link is not working.
As to the phone it was still ok 26 hours later when I had to exchange it for my replacement.
Weird !

Hi Andrew,
the fridge trick did not work for me. i kept searching for solutions and i found out that the problem is the digitizer (the touch screen). it might have received a shock (dropped on the ground) or other unusual pressure (in the pocket), and the digitizer gets out of initial position. the digitizer takes that contact as a tap -a continious tap- and does not respond to other taps. you might have to open the device and reposition the digitizer or replace it is there is some damage.
cheers
mumur
Sorry to hear that.
My replacement phone - so far has behaved perfectly.

it strikes me that if I shake the phone that the phone jamming. I get no response. Even when I tap my finger hard against the rear top I get a crash. The only solution is to take out the battery and reboot. I think it has to do with a hardware problem.
there are others who also suffer from it?
I have been having some problems with my leo where i cannot unlock it after coming out of standby. The screen just freezes.
And sometimes when i press the END button to get it out of standby, the key lights come on, but nothing else happens.
Apparently others have this issue too! - check out u-tube video:

Has anyone else had this or still having this? Do i have to return my phone for another one?
Have you tried a hard reset?

Haven't had the issue. Vaguely read about this somewhere else, might be related to the default WM 6.5 lockscreen. Disable it and try something like S2U2 and see if u still have the same issue.
I have same problem with my device. Is this software or hardware problem? I have to do hard reset, and after that display can be stack. So I have to do soft reset, and phone working. It happens to me 2 times in one day, both times after I have been in room with very bad signal. Maybe that can produce problem. Symptoms are same as on YouTube video.
Does anybody know how to solve this?
i face this b4, it happend few times a day. but after i do hard reset the problem is solved. i think should be installed something conflict with the phone or inproper amended some registry
i used to have this but now it is less common after I have installed WMTask to Close applications when I hit "X" (instead of WM just minimizing the app). In effect it frees up memory and hopefully does cause your HD to struggle for memory when waking up?
guys,
for your info, I installed a new ROM and this didnt help. So it is NOT a SOFTWARE issue. I returned my phone for a new replacement unit and no more issues.
Sorry to say but if u have this problem u need to send your phone back.
I now have no more issues!
Mine has been doing this a lot. Turning it back on just results in the keys lighting up and nothing more.
Work around is to turn on so keys light up, hold down power key until lights all go off, then press power key again ... it will come back to the lock screen.
Thanks for your prompt answer.
It is not seems as memory problem, because if I remove and return battery problem stay. Maybe it can be problem with display driver. Also it is a little strange that after hard reset, I have to do soft reset to get it work again. I not like to change rom version, because it can void my guaranty, and maybe it is hardware problem.
Mine does exactly the same thing once it gets warm. Decided to return it after trying multiple hard resets. ROM changes and S2U2. Made no difference.
As I've joked on this forum before (although it's true), I had to put mine in the freezer to get the screen to work again so it sounds to me like a hardware issue.
Mine's going back for a replacement next week...
HTC HD2 freezes quite often Solution

Well thanks for the solution so if we get that bug , just put your brand new HTC HD2 on the freeser lol
I had similar problem four mornings in a row. Hardware keys would light up but screen dead. Soft reset got it going again, and a hard reset made no difference, even without reinstalling my softwares (I had a clock alarm set for each morning, maybe this is just coincidence). Someone on another forum with a similar issue suggested installing MemMaid, and for me this has worked. Running a regular 'clean' has meant that the problem has not returned, for three days now. So far! I notice that every clean finds many duplicate or invalid 'notifications', not sure if these somehow accumulate and cause the device to crash? Maybe worth trying? So problem for me at least is software related. HTC need to sort this as it is really annoying, and MemMaid is only free as a trial.

I am not quite sure that is software problem, if you done hard reset, and display still not respond on touch.
Soft or hard reset could clear the problem, I just mean that a hard reset didn't avoid the problem coming back. My current ROM is the official 1.48, didn't have this issue on the previous official ROM.
I got confirmation from service today, that it is hardware issue with phone display.

How do you know if youre phone should be replaced? Does it happen every time?
This happens to me every so often.
ya, I'm experiencing this as well. real drag!
The same thing happened to me aswell.
I recieved a message and when I tried to unlock the screen, nothing happened. The hardware keys worked but the screen didn't register my touches.
Tried soft reset, didn't work. Removed battery for a while, didn't work. Hard reset, didn't work. Flashed official ROM from HTC, didn't work.
It's been sent for repair. Hope I get it back quickly
I actually don't. But I insist to get phone replaced. I wrote appeal to company where I buy phone. Also I wrote down S/N and IME so I can check if I get new one.
Got the exact same problem, have been complaining about this in different topic here.
Sometimes couldn't unlock screen for many hours... then suddenly works again.
I've tried everything : decreasing/inscreasing screen sensitivity with reg, removing the screen lock, stopping the weather animation as suggested, putting a second finger in a corner while touching the screen : NOTHING WORKS
The only thing i'm convinced : it IS a hardware problem.
When the screen didn't react at all for some hours, sometimes playing with its humidity could help for a few minutes only ( by cleaning the screen with some special wet lcd cleaner or cleaning the screen with some humidity from my breath).
Also i'm travelling a lot (several countries a week)... and noticed THE PROBLEM APPEARS IN COUNTRY WHERE HUMIDITY IS HIGH. (that's also the reason why freezer could help. in a freezer, it's so cold, that the humidity is not in the air anymore, but is in ice state).
MAYBE SOME GOOD NEWS:
I recently bought the HTC screen protection for the HD2 (5 days ago).
Thanks to it, Air humidity doesn't touch the screen directly anymore.
And the problem hasn't appeared, not even once!
I just arrived a few hours ago in the country where i always had the problem (cause of its high humidity), and guess what ? Screen is still working great
I'll keep u up to date if problems come back.... but for now, i really think this is the solution (with logical explanation).
Kaemon.

Looks like power button problem. Happens when humidity is very high.
You need to free the button contacts of moisture as advised by me here: Faulty Power Button. Phone can't turn off. (Resolved)
