Hardware differences betwenn Touch Pro and HD? - Touch HD General

Hi Folks,
as we all know the Touch HD hasn´t any Video Output. But the Touch Pro has one, and the Chipset should be the same. So is there anybody who has ever looked inside the two devices to find out what are the hardware-differences especially in graphic chipsets and peripherical parts? Are there Photos of the PCB´s to compare?
I really don´t think that its a Software issue to get Video-Output...

This is the answer! forget messing about with drivers and reg entries, we dont even know it had the ability to do it!
we need chipset pictures of both devices, id actually suggest comparing the Diamond and the Pro rather than the HD since it is almost identical in many more ways with the same question regarding its TV out abilites.
My thoughts are that there is going to be a nice wee bit of silicon sitting there doing the hard work for the PRO and it will be missing on the Diamond and HD.

compare HD vs Touch Pro

Hi all,
I know these 2 models are quite different. What I would like to discuss is how good or bad the Touch HD is, because I've been quite disappointed with my Touch Pro that I just sold.
This time, I want to evaluate properly before deciding for a new PDA.
So, the guys who have a Touch HD, or better: who know the Touch Pro, please express your views and feedbacks (honest ones) on this device.
Thanks.

Maybe you could list what you are not happy with on your Touch Pro.
Having dedicated problem areas to work on makes it easier for a reply and quite often gives quicker results too.
Beards.

[Q]

Would it be possible to make panels that are dedicated to certain apps like core player or morphgear which could then take advantage of the graphics via the new sdk? Would be a lot better if we could get some use out of the ati graphics...or would it not work like that. I tried searching on google but couldnt find much.
http://developer.sonyericsson.com/site/global/newsandevents/latestnews/newsfeb09/p_xperia_sdk_opengles_update.jsp
Afaik, hardware acceleration can only be achieved if the software developer gets the info they need from Qualcomm. Coreplayer is still working on it and morphgear.. don't count on it.
The panels won't be able to help here, you can have the panel itself accelerated, but not the app running inside.
hey Angelusz, sorry about not replying sooner mate!
This driver thing is a serious problem...if I knew how crippled the x1 was...I dont think i would have purchased it.
The new 3d game by sony is, lets be honset, ****e. I have more fun playing emulated games and these fancy 3d ones with zero playability. I just wish that we could make the x1 as good as it should be.
Is there word/hope that this could be fixed? Are there guys in other parts of xda working on a fix...which could also help us x1 users?
Some 3d performance increased can be achieved through installing other drivers (for instance the omnia's, diamond's, or better yet the Rhodium's.
2d.. I have no idea how to work that out though. It's a problem all MSMxxxx CPU's from Qualcomm have, including the diamond, touch pro and touch HD. I'm not sure about the Rhodium and Blue Topaz, but I'm guessing they're using the same chip as the X1 and touch HD.
Would it be possible for some clever guys(s) to make a driver from scratch? I noticed a post in offering a bounty for the first person to achieve the goal would get all the $$$. Cause I know that a lot of x1 owners (and prob other htc users) would all chip in for such a worthy cause.
...or should I just face facts that its never gonna happen
Thanks for replying to all my questions, im new to the ppc thing and still cant get my head round the fact that they have crippled our phone. Games on the iphone look upto psp standards!

HD or Diamond2?

Would any of you change your HD for the new Diamond2? I can't decide which to purchase. I like the idea of HD's larger screen and 3.5mm headset port but concerned about all of the postings re audio and video stuttering. I look forward to your opinions.
I like the Diamond 2 but I would never have one as I love the HD mainly for it's bigger screen and 3.5mm jack, plus I think it looks nicer.
I have never had any stuttering on my HD or my older Diamond, but even if you get the Diamond 2 it has practically the same specs as the HD but in a smaller package.
I have never had any audio problems but have noticed a small amount of video shuttering but after a while i didn't even notice it unless I was thinking about it. When the video shuttered the audio was rock solid, in some wierd way that lessened the problem considerably. Also, I would not give up the headphone jack and small screen. I still am wondering why anyone would buy a TD2 over a THD.
touch HD is the one...the bigger screen makes all the difference.

Totally agree on that...
I got a Diamond2 for testing purpose, and it's just a GREAT piece of hardware ! I know the hardware is exactly the same as the HD, but its speed and responsiveness is far above the HD's. I'll not change my HD for a Diamond2, but I must admit that it's just faster in every way.
Since the bigger screen was the reason to buy the HD, i dont see the reason why should i get the diamond 2.... as for ui responsiveness i think if you use another rom on the hd, would make it same as the diamond 2 (maybe a bit slower, since the HD uses higher resolution)!!
Guys,
Does the TD2 have an actual GPS antenna or is it a aGPS system? I ask because if I'm not mistaken, the THD uses an aGPS. In my opinion, that's the only difference between the two phones besides the screen size, the actual GPS antenna versus aGPS system.
Cheers.

I already use different roms, and it's not even near the same responsiveness as the Diamond2 (and for info. the Diamond2 has exactly the same resolution : 800*480).
why would any of us think the touch diamond 2 would perform any better? The problem isnt the hardware that the HD has, its the drivers that HTC refuses to improve. I imagine that the diamond2 will have the same issues. The HD screen beats everything out there and should be your choice unless you are in the US and need 35. Then you can get the aussie version of the HD but you will pay much more for it
Both HD and Diamond 2 looks great! But I'll still choose HD.

The touch HD has a GPS receiver, aGPS is assisted GPS which is an extension to the GPS chipset, that help get a faster fix through distance between cells(triangulations of ones positions is measured in the same way).
Lets just keep our beautiful 3.8 HD and put the Topaz/Diamond 2 Rom on it and have the best of both worlds. I have.

Had X1 for few months and bothered by lack of G-sensor. Should i change for touch HD?

I have owned my X1 for a few months now and on the whole i am really happy with it. Its a nightmare to keep clean and the sliding screen doesn't seem to be the most solid i have come across, but nevertheless this device has served me well.
However, i do have one concern and that is the lack of the G-Sensor. It seems a lot of games and apps are starting to make use of this feature, and i do enjoy the odd game on my phone. But do you think this is reason enough to think of changing the phone.
I want something that will be windows mobile 7 capable, and the touch HD seems to be on a par with the X1 spec for spec. A 3.5 mil headphone jack is also important to me hence the reason for not really considering other HTC Phones. I also enjoy the opportunity to flash, which is why i am not really considering anything other than HTC models.
Question is, should i think about swapping it for a touch HD? I can probably live without the hardware keyboard, but how good is the HD for games, not having any real hardware keys or D pad? I am guessing everything else will be ok, i would just have to get round the screen keyboard instead. Is the G-sensor really that useful when it comes to gaming?
On a slightly cheeky note, and assuming i am convinced by a HD instead does anyone have a HD they would want to swap for an X1?
Looking forward to your opinions......
I guess the HD's batt life will be worse than the X1, with no physical buttons and a resistive touchscreen, how are you gonna play games that require 2 buttons at the same time?
If you want something WM7 capable, I'd wait for the next generation Xperias. They'll most likely have a G-Sensor installed plus a more powerful CPU.
If not, I'd go for the Touch Pro 2 instead of the HD (all of Xperia's advantages and no HD drawbacks)
It's HTC's Xperia in my opinion...

I like the touch pro 2, but its still a bit of a problem with the 3.5 mil headphone jack. I dont have a huge problem with the adapters, though it does do my head in carrying one around. But can you charge and plug the thing into an audio line at the same time? I use it as sat nav / music player on the move and it helps to be able to run off the cigarette socket. I must admit waiting for a windows 7 device is probably preferable, but i think like all gadget freaks, i am an impatient man and when 7 devices are around, there'll always be another gadget to crave so i'm thinking current gen for the minute. I think i read windows 7 will fit into a 512mb rom image, and the x1 is pretty much maxed spec wise. The touch pro 2 is pretty much blow for blow spec as the x1 apart from the g sensor and shape. (slightly worse in fact because its made of plastic......

True......but could you not use the g sensor for movement, and the touch buttons for everything else. Is pressing 2 buttons at the same time not possible on the hd? Or are they just extensions of the touch screen? I like a few games, but i'm not expecting a dedicated machine replacement.
I don't see the point of asking for a solution that is down to personal preference and to do it at the Xperia board lol.
Anyways...... I would wait for the X2 if I were you. The G-sensor is under utilizied and probably will be for the time being. Maybe by the time X2 gets around there willl be enough games and apps to justify buying a phone for the G-sensor only.
The HD underperforms badly compared to the X1. I had it, so I know what I'm talking about. Plus, you can play touch only games on the X1, but you cannot play games that require a keyboard or a D-pad on the HD. 90% of games need physical keys or a D-pad. 10% use touch only or a G-sensor. You do the math .

True. But someone in the HD forum probably would have said something similar!
Though someone who has owned both is just the advice i'm looking for, in which case either forum is probably inappropriate.
Not that i dont believe its possible but I do fail to understand how a device that is virtually idential inside (apart from battery), so significantly underperforms. Especially where the ability to flash custom roms utilises similar drivers and software anyway.....
Though off to computex tomorrow where there are bound to be a hundered other devices that could make that perfect "Do everything" phone, so this could be a mute point.....
I totally know how you feel! But if I were you, I wait for next generation of Xperia. I do feel that HD and X1 do share similar specification; so I won't have to change anything indeed.
i have been thinking of the same but
- the touch hd has less buttons that can help u if a program locks up
- hw keyboard
-looks better (+leds on side)
- video record : 320*240!!!!
1 step dorward 2 step back ? dont do it bro

Touch Pro 2 ROM on Xperia X1?

Will it be possible? As it is said, that the new touch pro 2 rom is alot more responding than any other before.. The hardware is the same, so the only difference can be the software right?
I like the touch flo but I want a keyboard and the touch pro 2 will be way to expensive when it's out.
Well, hardware IS NOT the same!
Different keyboard, different hardware controls!
Different camera and different apps like a dialer, media panel...
there are a lot of differences in hardware between the two. i just see no reason why our xperia is a lot less responsive than HD td2 or tp2 even cpu intensive things like video playing is about 17%-20% slower. just look at any video review of the tp2 or td2 in youtube to see what i mean
some are saying that the x1 only runs at 400mhz but im not sure about that. i tried an application called nuecpl and it reports that my x1 is already running at 528mkz like the tp2
some genius really need to get to the bottom of this serious problem especially thoes that cook for many platforms like itje,udk,NRG...etc
the good news though is that the chefs over here have done a great job in improving the speed of the default stock roms.
So what about extract software for X1?
