This is not the Sharp version that has to be patched with a modified .dll to work, this is the real thing. Unfortunately, only a beta so far, and only a 45 Day Testversion at that, but very nice to look at nontheless, and it natively starts in VGA Mode.
http://www.opera.com/download/mobil... Pocket PC phones running Windows Mobile 5.0.
Thanks Rapax,
Just downloaded it and will soon install.
Thanks once again for sharing this vital information
Kind Regards
After a brief trial:
Page rendering is probably the best (better than PIE and Netfront 3.3)
Does not handle mail attachments in web based e-mail accounts such as Gmail. Both PIE and Netfront 3.3 do support file attachments.
Does not support flash sites though I have Macromedia flash player 6.0 on my Jasjar and PIE uses it. Netfront will take advantage of flash sites once the commercial version is available.
In terms of speed Opera appears to be the fastest compared to PIE and Netfront 3.3
Don't know if there is a way to define a user-agent because in its current form it forces us to mobile versions of web sites. I could not visit my hotmail site and it forces me to the mobile msn site. Likewise for www.handango.com
So all in all I have mixed feelings regarding this browser. Good in some areas but not the best. For my needs Netfront is still the overall winner. (However these are just my views)
Again may be it is only me but after I have used and closed opera (really closed) it prevents Planmaker to start up. I have to reset the Jasjar to be able to use planmaker again.
Regards
Sweet Lord, it's gorgeous. Simply gorgeous.
THIS is the browser that should be included with WM5.0.
EDIT: TAB doesn't work to move between fields...minor point.
Sharp version - new version
What's the difference compared to the Sharp-hacked one?
Do you see any improvement?
I have that, and it's working well.
The major problem I have is in using java applets. Unfortunately it seems a problem only Nefront 3.3 will be able to solve.
Opera looks good on initial usage.
Seems very kind to the RAM, did not see any leakage unlike with PIE
I ve tried it but it doesnt start. I ve installed in sd and ram but doesnt start. Any idea?
No errors. the clock spin 4 times and nothing hapens.....
Is there a way to import my PIE bookmarks?
Has this version fixed the double-space bug when entering stuff into text fields?
I am using it too. I think this browser looks especially nice on these model of phones because of the landscape screen orientation, and VGA.
it seems to work very quickly, as well and I did not have a problem with java applets. in fact I went to my bank site and alot of other sites that used java with no problem. Not sure how they manage to fit everything and resize everything to that small screen but for right now it will be my browser of choice.
It handles new windows very well and like other said doesn't take alot of ram. i do find it runs better when installed on storage memory as oppose to memory card storage.
i am going to continue to test it though. I have not played with netfront 3.3 as much.. but i like opera alot better.so far.
those that have not tried it I highly recommend it.
I didn't like Opera 8.5. Personally, I prefer PIE with Multi IE... can't find any better!
Opera updated today their open beta in http://www.opera.com/products/mobile/download/ . Now it seems they have an Symbian UIQ version too.
This version also includes the Opera widgets plataform. I dont tested yet and dont know the core build number.

If I look at the Known Issues then nothing works
ActiveX is disabled - Flash plugins and embedded video streaming do not work.
Custom software keyboards (IME) will be buggy at best, not working at worst.
No multilingual build - Only English is supported. Problems with other languages (and input methods) are not unexpected.
Installation on memory cards may cause problems.
Text wraps in overview mode.
Main testing has been done on English HTC devices (Touch Diamond, Touch Pro, Touch, Touch Dual, Touch Cruise, TyTN and Wizard) and Samsung i900.
Landscape mode does not take keyboard position into consideration.
Devices with low memory might get Out Of Memory (OOM) messages.
Opera is always running when the Widgets Manager is running.
On devices with hight DPI some of the pre-installed widgets look small.
When an URL is opened from a widget, there will be an extra browser window opened in the background that's not working properly.
Ok I installed it in my Diamond.
Its build 2723 and seems to be really fast. I installed into device and it doesn't messed up with my ROM's Opera.
The navigation is really fine but the whole widget thing is very buggy. Once you run Widgets the browser doesn't run anymore. You need to kill Opera and OperaL process or softreset. Avoiding widgets you will have a great experience.
Ok, some minutes later and I've got another impression.
Beta 2 is fast and render better some pages (gmail in normal view for example) but its unusable. The shortcut calls sometimes default Opera, sometimes the beta version. Always when I close beta version it displays widgets and i cant open the browser again. Download only for testing purposes.

You have two versions of Opera installed on your device simultaneously... expect problems!
Doesn't seem to take advantage of the accelerometer in the Diamond.
Wow, sad to see that Opera still sucks so much.
Also their forums are full of rants and the mods over there keep censoring and deleting forum postings and even whole threads.
Don't know what's going on, but commercial WM development is getting worse with every day. Just look at CorePlayer, STILL no fixed build for the Diamond, they even don't manage to put a build out which at least fixes the every now and then hickup while playing music.
On the other hand underground development is going higher every day, as seen in this forum.

Installed the build 2723 and removed the previous Opera9 and OperaL. Indeed, the speed is impressive! Opera Browser is now automatically loaded after each soft rest, however. Is there any way to avoid the auto-load after soft rest? As in the precious setting, I prefer to open/load the Opera Browser when needed in order to save memory.
Also, if Opera Browser is closed after being loaded into the memory (at the soft reset), it can't be re-opened without another soft rest. Any one encounters the same and may have solutions?
Can anyone please make the Beta 2 as an vga SD version...
I have read somewhere that there is a newer build of Opera Mobile than the one included with the Touch HD. This can be downloaded somewhere and is supposed to work with Flash Lite 3 for support of playing Youtube videos within the browser and so on.
Does anybody have experience with this? Does it support the WVGA-resolution on the Touch HD? Where can it be dowloaded?

Thanx Dodger for the link !
Installed the hacked VGA version of newest Opera with flash
But to be honest... i still use NetFront... i dont like this zooming all the time and Opera is not fast enough... i hope Microsoft will invent a good (!!!) web browser like Safari on the Apple. The newest Internet Explorer works like %!§/ , even slower than version 5!
I don't like the 15233 Build from the Omnia. The 15202 works better, because it still stores the settings into \windows\opera9 and not within the application data and the vibration for buttons still work with that build.
Is that "Flash" version of Opera really only for flash video pages like youtube, google video etc.? Or can it be used to view regular websites requiring a flash plugin?
We have a new build of Opera 9.5 : 15894.
Known issues :
- ActiveX is disabled — Flash plugins and embedded video streaming do not work.
- Custom software keyboards (IME) will be buggy at best, not working at worst.
- No multilingual build — Only English is supported. Problems with other languages (and input methods) are not unexpected.
- Installation on memory cards may cause problems.
- Text wraps in overview mode.
- Main testing has been done on English HTC devices (Touch Diamond, Touch Pro, Touch, Touch Dual, Touch Cruise, TyTN and Wizard) and Samsung i900.
- Landscape mode does not take keyboard position into consideration.
- Devices with low memory might get Out Of Memory (OOM) messages.
- Opera is always running when the Widgets Manager is running.
On devices with hight DPI some of the pre-installed widgets look small.
- When an URL is opened from a widget, there will be an extra browser window opened in the background that’s not working properly.
Enjoy !!!
The cabs is for QVGA and VGA versions ! No reboot needed

Gears-enabled technical preview (Visit http://gears.google.com to download the Gears plugin for Opera Mobile)
LINKS : Mediafire RapidShare
Oke this is the update for the official beta2, to include "gears" functionality. Available from the official opera mobile site.
I tried it about a week ago, and my guess is that while it may be build 15894, it is just the beta 2 with gears functionality. That is, they did NOT create a new build from all the newest updates they made to the code.
They took the OLD code from beta2, added gears functionality, and made a new build. Of course in that case it is numbered as build 15894, but it is built actually using very old code.
Wait for a new build folks, the one that uses the most recent code Build 15592 is still the best and newest

isn't this the same build with soft keyboard problems?

I heard this build is pretty good. Sadly there is no QVGA version I can use on the Omnia.
Yes, I tried it and it's a very good build (15613)! Opera starts in about 1 second, much faster than any other builds. Apart from that, no weird bugs or limitations
Only thing is that it flips the screen orientation when it looses focus or is exited...
You can use it on qvga too, just replace it with a qvga skin. And change the zoom settings in opera:config. If you need help, ask me... but it's pretty easy and straightforward
actually the newest sprint diamond rom has opera 9.5 build 15954 in it, but I haven't seen it anywhere other than in that rom. (official Sprint Diamond ROM v2.00.651.6 CE OS 5.2.20764)
can someone bring that build on the thread please? right now I'm with build 15613 and it's working out so far but there's always updated code with better usability and stability...
Opera 9.5 versions thread
Hi to all Opera users
Please visit this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=486502
The idea is to have in one thread all the different versions of Opera 9.5 circulating all over the forum, to get easy acces to them.
Please feel free to share about this and hope all can contribute
Thanks,
I made a cab of the newest version, build 15954: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=486799
thanks to xtep for the latest Omnia Opera (build 15746). there are other higher version of opera from htc, but i've found the omnia builds are always much faster than the htc versions of opera.
here is the vga version that i've put together (installed into internal device):
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=X4ERZ025
for QVGA and other installation options, go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=475986
i dont use flash, but others reported that flash work with this build.
Is it uninstallable? I'd like to compare it with build 15954, but I'd also like to revert it if anything.
how can i get flash working?
this doesn't seem to work, loads up opera, all my bookmarks are missing and it doesn't let me go to a web page?
skyfire is batter than opera
