so my tmobile wing is like a week old, i just put some simple java games on there last night and it's sooooooooooo slow. this is the slowest phone i've owned. i loaded the same games i loaded on my previous phones (cause i like them) and it takes an incredibly long time to long. on my previous phones (w850, v635, v3) the game takes about 1-2 seconds to load. on my wing, it takes at least 30 seconds. i'm looking at my system info (with no apps running in the background) and currently am using 71% program memory and 81% storage memory. is this normal? already tried freeing up ram with sktools and a reboot, but still slow. also, SNES also runs so incredbily slow...is it just me? please help!

search for battery status and overclock to 247(at your own risk)
goto modaco.com,l search for wing page pooling and do it at 6mb(again at your own risk)
from there your wing will fly...
i am considering it but i rather not. i don't know why the wing is so slow at just simple java games. is this only me? and is it normal for that much mem to be taken up without anything running?
Well, it IS a windows phone...
wouldnt expect it to be fast and memory-friendly thats why you tweak em..
but I do agree with you, I'm not a huge fan of overclocking
well a lot of pple are saying they can run SNES fine...lags so much on mine...i don't know if it's just me or what
See my reply to your identical question at howardforums.
didn't help much. is there a way to see ALL processes running and what is taking up what?
just changed the page pooling to 4mb...doesn't help still slow i don't want to overclock but it's sloooooooooow
I overclocked mine to 260Mhz, runs like the wind so fast.
The app that runs the Java games is a virtual machine, so most of the system resources go into running the app, not the actual game. You might also want to try another app like IBM's j9 jvm. I have used it and have had good results with some games. I would like to know who is running SNES at full speed and how. Probably without sound, though.

If you read all the similar threads on xda, you will found out that someone explained how to enable sound playing snes games.

is it just me or is the RAM management (where WM closes idle apps to free up RAM) a lot touchier in the new rom than before? it seems like i just minimize opera to check my email and within 20 seconds its been closed, i cant even run IM+ in the background like i used to because it gets closed
is there any way to turn this off? or at least exclude some programs or lower the threshold? its really annoying
instead of pushing the "x" button on the touch screen, i would just push the hardware "ok" button and it minimizes just fine for a long time. im using dcd's rom btw
nope, still kills it within a minute, maybe i shoudl just stop running it at 13mb of ram free
im actually having the same problem with DCDs rom. i run wisbar desktop and it will shut off after 10 minutes. its very very annoying.
well i was runnign DCD 2.3.2 and it was fine, now im on 3.0.0 (built from kitchen) and its doing it again
any ideas?
That is strange indeed. We all know how bad windows is with RAM (not excluding vista/xp/mobile, etc). I was running wisbar advance to give me the "linux" look/feel, but i found that i would have to soft reset every day to keep the ram up. I used SKtools FreeUpRam to keep me going throughout the day, but it'd still be pretty low most of the time.
I stopped using wisbar and i have better ram management, but still not very good (though much better than WM6.0). I have HTC Home, metrix, and an rss, feeder, s2u2, narglz iphone dialpad running and my ram is at 15 MB. I did my last soft reset over 24 hours ago. So, 6.1 does have ****ty RAM management, but running the same thing on 6.0 i HAD to softreset usually every several hours (and that would be without the rss feeder running).
So while this post isn't necessarily helping, it's just a "this is my experience". After I flash to newest ROM (probably some point tonight), I'm going to run some tests as far as memory management is concerned. If I find anything, I"ll post it up, if i dont, then i dont.
On a side note, i switched to the simply everything plan, unlimted everything woot!
i havent had much issues with memory leaks/losing ram, whats annoying me is how fast windows closes programs that are minimized
2 experiences i just had recently, in opera mobile, browsing a website, i get an email, switch to messenger to read it, then switch back to opera, couldnt have been more than 20 seconds but windows killed opera in that time
just now before typing this, had IM+ open, was sending an IM to my buddy and i accidently hit the phone send button (which birngs up the phone) i close out (literally 3-4 seconds) and windows had killed IM+
now opera i can understand, it uses 6-7mb ram (i have 20 free on boot) but IM+ only uses like 700k, why cant windows just leave the little guy alone?
another thing i noticed is that it seems fine with leaving apps running, until i try to run something else, so IM+ stays in the background until S2U2 loads, then it kills IM+
Just a guess here as I can't flash roms until the weekend (I need the phone)
But Sprint included HTC_Task Manager and maybe it has been updated to shut down programs after a certain time limit.
Has anyone checked the HTC Task Manager settings to see if there is an option on timeout and closing?
well im guessing there is some sort of learning feature to the ram management, as IM+ and resco explorer (another app i use frequently) no longer get killed no matter how long they run or what other apps i run with those 2 in the background
so kudos to windows mobile
have you tried going to settings>system>task manager>button> and made sure you dont have "Enable the X button to end running programs" checked??
gah, i spoke too soon, its doing it again, its gotten worse in fact, WM has taken to closing IM+ when its the active window
That sounds like a problem with IM+ I was having earlier, it turned out to be a corrupted file in the install, doing a hard reset of the phone and reinstalling IM+ fixed it, but that obviously wouldn't fix your RAM troubles, but it might not be windows closing IM+.
Just out of curiosity, how do you get IM+ to eat so little ram for you? it's generally 1.3mb-4mb, which is fairly ludicrous (helps if I keep closing my extended conversations)

well as the title said i was having this issue on the leaked 3.16 rom (using IM+ 3.53) and now im having it with DCD 3.0.0 using IM+ 3.53, then updating to 3.55, so at least part of it is windows
i have noticed since upgrading to 3.55 though that it is very slow accessing anything else with IM+ running (like its spiking the CPU or something) so maybe this is an IM+ problem too

probably because i just have AIM and gTalk connected, and usually only have 1 or 2 convos open
sorry to bump this thread (again) but i think i may have some useful info on why this seems to happen sporatically
currently im using a custom rom built in DCDs 3.0.1 kitchen and what ive found is that if i load a bunch of programs immediately after a soft reset (eat up a bunch of ram) then those (and other) programs will stay open until i close them manually
if i let it sit with nothing running then it will only let me have one program open at a time
my conclusion is that in the minute or so following boot it establishes a "baseline" for how much ram it wants to keep open, and closes programs when it gets below that, having programs open seems to force that baseline lower, thus allowing you have more apps in the background, ive been opeing skype and opera mobile to eat up about 10mb
im not sure if this is windows mobile standard behavior or if its the result of some other app i have installed (SPB pocketplus is the most likely suspect) i might make a backup and hard reset to tonight to see what happens with nothing else installed
Well after 5 days of having this phone, it seems to have got very slow...
Going into messages and then opening the keyboard, the screen can just sometimes freeze.
When typing a message there is a good second lag from when I type it to it appearing on screen.
Also, ive noticed that pictures I take with the phone seem to be very pixelated on the phone.
Ive had 2 taskbars at once from opening and closing the keyboard.
Just in general the phones seems to going extremly slow. Panels take ages to open up when the panel button is pressed and take a good 3-5secs to load.
It seems like this phone/OS has a stupid amount of bugs that need to be sorted asap.
Anyone else got these problems?
guess it's a matter of expectations
or you experience issues I don't
I'm in no hurry to update to a newer rom myself
well it was fairly quick and i was impressed at first.
but now this has just turned into the slowest and buggiest phone ive had
do you exit programs or do you just put them in the background?

Disable threaded SMS view, it *should* get rid of the lag you speak about.
Have you tried a soft reset? Leaving the phone running non stop for 5 days will slow it down.

yep done. still seems slow...
is it because of some programs ive installed?
uh is this your first pda? I mean I asked because you said your x1 is slow. may we know its slow compared to what? if it is just slow. then I guess wm6.1 is just slow. Ialso have sim-free one. And have a few pda's from wm2003 to 5, 6 and 6.1 and yep the 6.1 is a bit slow.
Its slow compared to how it was when I got it 5 days ago.
However, i have just uninstalled:
Spore
2 tweak programs
Windows Live Panel
The phone is a lot faster now.
Before I was waiting at least 3-4seconds for messages to loads, the screen to rotate etc...
which tweaks were slowing you down?
yeah which one? might help us make ours faster too.
Have you installed touch flo? that screws up the X1's speed
Ok heres what in uninstalled. This has made the device a lot quicker (well, only as quick as default speed - as it was when the device was first used)
Windows Live Panel
Spore
XperiaTweak 2.0
Some other tweak program, allowed you to change what animations ran etc. Can't remember its name. AdvanceTweak or something
After uninstalling these, it made the device as quick as it was when I first got it.
I haven't got any random roms or anything like that. Everything on the device is official.
No TouchFlo
Standard O2 Rom
Ive editied the registry to remove the O2 Panel but this hasn't made a speed difference.
is it possible that spore run on background, developing it's creature.
I too occasionally get 2 seconds freezes. Could it be some cache setting in Xperia Tweak ? Since I don't understand them much.
You can use task manager (I mean real task manager which show processes, it's in phone:\windows) to check what eats CPU and RAM.
I loaded my X1 full with apps and tweaked a little but it's as fast as after a hard reset
got a hd2, stock rom, latest, all patches,
and its doing my head in!
runs so slow, messages are so slow to load, and the phone sometimes doesnt come out of standby!
i love the size of the phone etc, but its tempting to sell it now
any suggestions?
same deal here, any help would be great!

sorry for off topic, does Android w/ Snapdragon or Android in general have the same problem/s like Windows Mobile does?
All this stuff should be as quick as speeding bullet.
and another question,
what kind of processor do we need to get what we want out of WinMo?
From what I gather it would have to be atleast 2 to 3 ghz. (for it to never stutter.)

im using a hero and an hd2 both freeze up from time to time. if you use Google apps a lot stick with android. if your lazy stick with android. if you have time to always tweak your phone go with winmo. and despite what you read windows has way more apps than android the only problem is most of the apps are 3 or more years old and not being updated anymore so not too finger friendly.
My HD2 (U.S. Tmobile - Stock Rom) runs like lightning, but not for lack of effort (well, not too much effort). I installed BsB Tweaks and Clean Ram, applied the performance tweaks in BsB (there's even one messaging that allows for "classic" style), and make sure to run Clean Ram (level two) once or twice a day. I also make liberal use of the task manager after opening any apps that fail to close with the press of an X (most?). Occasionally I'll notice a bit of slowdown, but Clean Ram will usually cure what ails it. Worst case scenario is I'll need to do a soft reset (which I always do after installing/uninstalling any apps), but, with BsB, it's a breeze as there's a command for it in the menu, so no need to wrangle with the battery cover and poke the red button!
As far as Android goes, I've no clue how it will run on HD2 level hardware, but, seeing as much of the issues with the HD2 seem to revolve around the Sense UI and HTC in particular, I would imagine some of the same issues will crop up. I'm coming over from Android (G1) to WinMo. My G1 had the same issues with messaging (HTC!!!) but, otherwise, didn't require much by way of maintenance. It was just slow and there was nothing I could do about it!
Play around with some of these tools on here. I'm a total WinMo noob, but I gotta say I'm loving the tweakability of the OS, and I'm especially enjoying learning about all of the cool stuff XDA has available for it.
No Lag here
Hey guys, I'm not sure if you guys are managing your opened applications properly... HD2 will keep all the apps you opened in the background running unless you actually closed them... and for most of the apps the only way to close them is to go to taskmanager (start>taskmanager>endtask, see a quicker way to do this below)....
Solution: you need to close the applications that are open!!!!
some tweaks that make this easier
- BsB Tweaks (solves many problems)
- Dutty's Taskmanager (allows you to switch between currently opened apps and also allows you to close them, it puts an icon on the top right corner in the taskbar) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
Hi all!
I currently have elelinux 2.1 ROM, but I think that's not the problem, because with others rom is very slow too.
For example, when I'm writing a text message, on twitter or whatever, sometimes it has a delay of 1 second more or less, activating 3G/wifi is slow as **** too. Even turning screen on and navigating through desktops or apps is slow. When I call, it has a delay of 3 seconds before it appears on the screen. I can't even listen to music because the phone get stucks... I could give you more examples, but I think is enough to know that my hero works to slow.
But I don't know if this is normal or not, I don't know other people who own a Hero.
Thanks in advance
Yeah it's an outdated slow phone really. I would consider it normal.
Maybe you have some apps installed and running in background? Try to install fresh ROM or uninstall all applications and try then.
are you using an thirth party keyboard like better keyboard?
those are a bit laggy somethimes and that can cause your 1 or 2 seconds lag
and maybe try to flash a new kernel (like this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730471) or start again from scratch

Hi!
Recently I've installed Thumb Keyboard, but the keyboard was laggy before that, so that's not the main problem I think...
I know it's an old phone, but this slowness, it's unbearable... and my contract doesn't end until october >_<
instal a task manager maybe?
or delete your phones cache (can be done by apps in the market)
otherwise.. i dont know whats the problem
i recomend a radio and kernel update (can be found here on the forums)
Yes, try a task killer to find out what processes use phone memory the most.
Kill them periodically, or just uninstall them if it's not necessary.
hi everyone
i think that's the steps of solving the problem try it
1- if your memory card is full try to delete anything you not use in it.
2- make a Swap partition and that's the link > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6907762&postcount=47
3- install fresh rom for my advise (VillainROM-v13)
4- install task killer that's help phone to be faster
now your phone is fast!! enjoy
You may wanna consider overclocking a bit. That's helps my phone quite a bit.
may be you've to reflash ROM
i usually flash ROM every 3 months
Solution without Sense:
go and get elelinux 2.8 ROM
OC your cpu (needs root and care not every phone can handle the highest values, ele has included oc app in his rom)
find the lowest working freq without the phone always restarting itself
find the highest freq without stability issues or overheat
after done this, check "set on boot"
switch all animations off
install just the apps you really need
remove all that unnessecary junk from your homescreen, a clock widget (example beautiful widgets lite, weather animations off, free from market) and some shortcuts are enough, if u want u can keep search widget
play around with cyano settings so you get optimum results
then your phone should not show too many lags, at least mine does not.
Solution with Sense:
Go and get a fresh rom,
example
elelinux repacked 2.1 rom,
VR 13 (also 2.1),
SalsaSense (2.3.3, not as fast as RUU 2.1 though, and use Las Venturas 0.4.7 kernel)
Same procedure as above: OC, for me i use 264-768.8MHz and ondemand gov
Remove all that unnessecary htc homescreen junk like music widget , peoples widget, weather.....
if u want you can keep htc clock widget, but do animations off
Phone should be FAST!
greets, S.O.D.
id recommend updating from 2.1 to the 2.8 version. the set the cpu to 176/652.
then install task manager. this should sort all your problems out
try overclocking the phone, i use floyo rom and it run so fast for me
was using villainrom 12 and recently shifted to villainrom 13. trust me it is the best rom i have ever had. i use taskiller with it and my phone simply flies. though battery remains an issue. i am using the stock keyboard and also the stock sms app. would suggest all to give it a try (those who haven't)
I too have had a slow hero and it is definately not rom.
I actually had 2 heroes , One got rooted on day and has been ok .
The other ( nephew was using it) was slow and I always assumed it was his stock system, unrooted setup.
When I got the phone back last week, I rooted it , put a few roms on , wiped everything that looked wipable in recovery , put in a new sd card , setup a app2sd partition ( using rom manager ) .
and still its deadly slow.
If it was a PC I would think its faulty memory so only the good portion is working but I have no way of checking. ( unless you tell me)
also the apps2sd might not have taken as i tried to format the partition after creating it and it couldn't find it.
any ideas?
try to flash new roms .....
