Pros and Cons - XPERIA X1 General

Hey everyone, I am planning to get the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1.
I would like to know everyone views on how horrible or Great this phone is.
My current phone atm is the HTC Diamond, i regret getting it because i could of got the HTC touch PRO instead.
Is this phone worth getting?
Better or worse than HTC Diamond?
Thanks, i await your replies.

I can't compare it with HTC Diamond or other Windows-Phone as I never had any WindowsMobile-driven device. Xperia is my first and surely the last one. I have already ordered a replacement. There will be no Microsoft soon in my pocket

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=459406&highlight=x1+touch+pro

xperia is nice and all but i dont think it was worth 800 bucks that i paid.
pros: small phone, nice screen and resolution
cons: price, screen too small if your going to use it as primary browser.
its a good phone if your on the go and you want something that you can pocket.

What to do as a US AT&T customer? X1 vs Touch Pro

I have an AT&T account through my work so I'm a bit limited in options. I currently have the AT&T 8525 (Hermes) and was planning to upgrade to the Sony X1 or X1a.
However, it seems that the Touch Pro (Fuse) will shortly be available for arround $300US via AT&T vs the X1 at $675 US from the UK or the X1a at $799 in the near future from Sony (unlocked).
I like the X1/X1a... but is it really work ~$400US extra?
Thoughts?
I've owned the Touch pro under Att (NO 3G in my area) and it was great to have the xperia just seems to be on a whole other level. The keyboard on the touch pro is magnificient and i truly hate the xperia keyboard. Everything else about the xperia is just perfect. I paid like 920 for mine with a 16GB card and if they said it would cost 300 bucks more i would've still bought it.
I believe u can get the fuze right now from att's website. So i guess the choice is yours. I would say get the xperia. No doubt about it
I ran your response by my wife... afraid it didn't pass the wife test :-(! I've never paid more than $300US for a phone.... so it's really hard to justify. I wonder if the X1 will be like the Touch HD and never sold by AT&T?
Its possible, maybe wait ill january and if theres no xperia announcement then go with the touch pro. Also places like expansys and other handset sellers offer discounts on the xperia if you buy a att contract through them
I just upgraded from the 8525 too and no matter which one you pick its gonna be soo much better. =)
I agree with Bxsteez, the xperia is on a whole other level. If you want a phone capable of being your phone, pda, and music/video player then the x1 is your choice. But if money is an issue then the Touch Pro makes as an awesome choice as well, especially with the phone price of AT&T brand compared to the x1 being almost a $600 difference its very hard to justify getting the x1 over the fuze now.
The X1a has already been announced. You can order starting today, shipping starts on the 28th. It will be $800 unlocked. check infosyncworld.com for more info. It was announced yesterday

That's another issue... The 2 US places I've seen it offered (Sony Store and J&R) are only listing the silver version. I'd really wanted the black :-(!

You should read what people are saying about the blk one on howardforums. They say their paint is chipping or something like that.
You know what, if you have to create a new contract w/ AT&T anyway, buy the Touch Pro and sell it on eBay. Then the cost to own this eye catching baby is not that much.
Don't see how this deserves a poll, but I found this --> Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1i Silver + AT&T Unlimited Plan ($129.99/Month, 24 Months, Unlimited Voice & Data), #X1iSLV-ATTUNLTD - eXpansys Inc
They might make another deal for the X1a too after release, but I'm an Australian so I don't know too much about it.

They want $589US for the phone and then $129US/mo (2 year commitment) for unlimited voice and data.
I pay about $35US/month for unlimited data and $0.06US/min for voice (via my company plan), so this doesn't seem like a good deal for me. But thanks for pointing out another option.

Now that's creative ! Thanks for the suggestion!
Yea that's probably best. Get the Fuze on a new number from letstalk.com for free, unlock it and sell it on ebay or something to offset the price of the X1a =)
Dunno why people say the X1's keyboard is abysmal compared to the touch pro. I actually thought quite the opposite... the touch pro's keys were so small and so close together where as the X1's is nice and spaced out I don't make any errors. Plus the angled screen helps too.
Don't even get me started on that cluster of buttons they call a d-pad.
X1 is worth it...
I owned the TP (European model) and other than the 3G that I now get on U.S. ATT with the Xperia, there are other reasons I'm happy with the X1.
These all have been mentioned before but there is no GPS lag, I get 30fps video at 640x480 (record and playback) and the finger prints aren't nearly as bad.
None of these things are fixed with the ATT FUZE. The things I miss from the TP is the 5 row keyboard and the excellerometer (G-sensor). For me, the other X1 advantages outweigh those two things though.
This thread is very helpful since I'm also seriously considering these 2 devices. I'm leaning toward the xperia, but I'm concerned about a few things.
1) Exactly how bad is the xperia keyboard? Every review says it's horrible compared to the Fuze. I had a chance to play around with the fuze keyboard only. It felt OK but my experience is limited with any type of keyboards, but would like to use more on my next phone, so this is important for me. Is it just a matter of getting used to on the xperia keyboard, or is it just unusable, as some reviews had indicated.
2) Next question is what is it that the xperia has over the fuze? Other than 3.5 jack and panels (which some people don't even like), is there anything that the xperia has over the fuze hands down? Does the 0.2 cm screen make it worth it? It seems like, on the other hand, the fuze has some important hardware advantage, including the g-sensor.
3) Build-wise, is xperia that much better? The fuze seems to be fairly solid, but I haven't had a chance to touch the xperia, so can't compare.
4) Is there any gps lag on the xperia similar to that experienced by fuze users?
The bottom line is $500 difference is a lot (hopefully, the difference won't be as much once it's more mainstream). I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth the money, and for now, worth the wait.

the difference between the keyboards is like apples and chicken lol.. I mean u can use the xperia keyboard but the keys are very flat and its kinda difficult to press the keys. I don't think its as bad as the HTC Wizard. I'd say its about equivalent to the TYTN II with the TYTN II being a tad better.

When you hold the xperia it just feels so much more solid everything moves smoother. I personally believe the xperia is some how drastically faster. The xperia can run tfl3d and the panels but from what i've been seeing they are trying to port the panels to htc devices. The screen on the xperia is much more sensitive and ur less likely to scratch the xperia's screen since its recessed. Lets see. I hate the xperia's tiny call and end buttons but i love the little optical pad. I hated the touch pro's surface buttons because they just felt cheap. hmmm i think that is about it

The feel of the xperia is just amazing i don't even know how to describe it. I've held a ton of full qwerty smartphones all HTC phones and this is by far the best one. How the keyboard comes out how its curved everything is just so perfect.

I experience gps lag on every device if its the first time ur running gps from a cold start. I think the xperia's has the least lag but its still pretty bad at first.

I can't really make the decision for you but i would say i'd pay an extra 500 dollars on top of what i paid for this phone and i paid 920 dollars for it with a 16GB card. I don't think i even want to switch to a different phone. I've never said that when i bought a phone and i've had the wizard, tytn, tytn II, touch pro, and a bunch of other smartphones like the s710, qtek 8310(don't know what this in htc lingo), mpx 200, and mpx220
Hope this helps

thanks for that i'm a fellow wizard user also this is my current device and it's a toss up between the x1 and the touch pro the touch pro (fuze) seems to be the more economical choice given the pricing but i just like the overall of the x1 but the price for one of those things is outrageous a person on boygeniusreport made a good point it should be no reason why cell phones cost more then laptops either the phones should be cheaper or the voice and data plans should be cheaper
I dunno about that. The smaller ur laptop gets the more expensive it gets. Once u step away from the average user things get expensive. A regular 15.4 inch laptop will cost u nothing but if u get an ultraportable they start getting pretty expensive and extremely weak in power, with the exception of those new badass atom processors. U kinda have to keep in mind this is also a phone. Most laptops aren't walking around with internet connections all the time although u could ;-)
I truly hate the fuze. I'm quite upset they got rid of the ctrl key so i assume u can't do the shortcuts anymore but i will see. I'll be using my upgrade to get a fuze pretty soon just to have it as a back up and i'll write up a comparison to that too.
I currently own both the FUZE and X1i...
Guess what? I'm a HUGE X1 fanboy. Love it...
But, also LOVE the FUZE. And, for me, it might actually be a better all around phone.. Sure the screen isnt as large, the pixels are smaller, and it's a tad slower, but, I love the iphone-like (capacitative) touchscreen. It rocks.
I really like not having edges on my screen. One of the best things about the iphone IMHO. This is a huge selling point on the FUZE
Both phones are similar in call quality- excellent. So far I like the FUZE keyboard a tad better... Haven't really tested all the features, but, as far as the video recording on the X1, I've found it does not live up to the hype... I get HSDPA on both, so they browse the web uber fast....
Anyways, both phones rock. I think this thread is a little biased. The FUZE really has a ton of great qualitites, and, it comes down to a matter of personal preference and needs..
Like I said, both phones are fantastic (I've owned every high end WM phone in the last 3 years) and these 2 are by far the best (have not yet tried Touch HD, but really need physical qwerty anyways)
All in all, you can't go wrong with either one..
Feel free to ask any more questions..

I must say i have to agree with the flush screen in the sense that i have fat fingers and its much easier to close apps on the fuze/touch pro. Now that i think about it i never used the stylus on the touch pro but i do find myself using it on the xperia.

HD2 (leo) or TD2 (Topaz)? I need your opinon!

My Touch Pro is nearing it's 1.5 year birthday, and although it has served me well I feel it it is time to retire it. I am in the market for a new phone, and two phones have caught my eye. I wanted to get the opinon of current TD2 owners and see what you thought on the matter
Now I am fully aware people would be sat there saying "why would you get the TD2 over the HD2?!", but the TD2 has a few redeaming features that make me think it would like it better. For my money, the TD2 has the following reedeaming features:
Sits better in palm (due to smaller form factor)
Looks much better
£200 cheaper (!)
Bigger battery
It also shares many features, like the ability to run WinMo 6.5 and HTC Sense, same resolution, 5mp camera, SD slot... e.t.c.
I know the HD2 has a much faster 1GHz processor, and the huge screen would be great for GPS. but I am not sure it would be comfertable to use (I think my iPod touch is quite large). That said the screen would be alot nicer to use, and the HD2 will probably run WinMo7 when it finally surfaces (since I will have the phone for at least 12 months, probably 18)...
You can see why I'm stuck right?
What would you do? If you had the oppertunity, would stay with what you have, or upgrade to the latest and greatest?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the TD2 battery 1100 mAh while the HD2 is 1350?
EDIT: To give my opinion, I'm totally satisfied with my TD2 at the moment but I wouldn't mind getting the HD2 instead of it. I watch ALOT of movies on my TD2 and the screen is really good (16:9 in CorePlayer looks beautiful, widescreen ftw!). But I just bought it so I will have to wait some months and see what's coming.
ooops... I actually wanted to vote for the Leo - sorry
Take the HD2 - it has the dual LED flash, 3.5mm headphone jack and capacitive touchscreen - and, most importantly, it's incredibly fast!
I would say get neither if you plan on having them for 12months+
But really I love My TD2. Had it since release day in April. So like 6 months now. If it weren't for the price I'd get an HD2. But then again it's nearly the same phone I have minus the Flash, Big Screen, and SnapDragon. I upgraded from a touch and skipped out on the Original Diamond. And thank god I did, cause a few months later the announcement of the TD2 came.
Wait till Feb for the World Mobile Congress (or Mobile World Congress) I'm sure there will be smaller sized devices than the HD2 that have the same specs. I mean look what happend last year. The HD was announced then along cam the TD2 which is the same yet different. Plus the TD2 was like $200 USD less.
If you can wait wait. If not get the TD2. It looks nicer. and say in6 Months when the D3 is out you can trade up. Cut that 12month wait in half.
I like the HD2.. it's looks good and has a nice big capacitive screen..
If i didn't have the TD2 i would buy the HD2.
But the TD2 is a nice phone, not too big and it's fast enough for me.
The thinks i hate off the TD2:
Bad camera and no flash
My wifi sucks (broken) and HTC won't repair it They tried to repair it 2 times but they failed
But i can't say what phone you should buy, it depends on what you want to do with it..
Fast, big screen, camera flash, good for movies? then go for the HD2
not too big, easy too use with one thumb, cool design? then go for the TD2
I was goign to get the HD1 over the TD2, but as soon as i held the TD2, i love it. Feels better in my hand than somthign the size of an ipod touch.
Go to the store and try both out. You can't beat first-hand experience. Personally, I think the HD2 is too big to carry in your pocket and uncomfortable to use with one hand. HD was already just short of too big for me.
I really hope HTC puts these snapdragons into something smaller than the HD2 eventually. I'd love something the size of TD2 yet with bigger screen. Who decided to sacrifice screen estate to have a frickin' "zoombar" anyway?
I was at a carphone warehouse earlier, and the TD2 dos feel really nice sitting in the hand. How does HTC sense perform on the older hardware?
The leo will be the first of the snapdragon processors things will only get better from there. I'd save the money and go with the TD2/TP2
thsnx for the opinions...very helpful......I am in the same predicament...I've been in the market for a phone for almost a 9 months. I was gonna settle on the TD2, then came the Magic, then the Hero, and I fell out of love with the magic pretty fast. I still like the Hero but Im not sure about the NO BT transfer and poor cam. I am not sure about Android either. But I handled the Hero @ a HTC Store and I have to say that I was impressed by the build quality....the fone is firm..feels like luxury. (at least the brown one)
The Leo will not be in my price range once it comes out. I could buy a whole new laptop once the price it.
Anyways.....I like the HD2..Seems like the safe choice now...The moto STD is making want to be a bit more patient....need to get a phone now...cant wait till the mobile congress....So many choices ...what to do.... Hero, TD2,HD2 ??,STD by Moto,...uhm.....a little still after all......
I have the Topaz running a Leo based ROM (currently from Dutty) and it (Topaz) is an awesome phone, but the Leo has got me drooling- I gotta have one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111
as much as i would love the 1ghz cpu of the leo it just too big for me, thus i vote topaz.
Size does matter
Its way too big, i gave up on the TP2 due to its sheer size and bulk, yes the bigger screen was awesome, but back to the TD2, its the best balance.
Thanks for the oversight guys, it's mbeen really helpful. I will take a look at the HD2, but I think I will end up with a TD2 and get a new phone 10 months down the line. The hero is pretty nice, but I'm worried the novelty of android will wear off. I does feel really good in the hand, and the build quality is damn good.
Decisions, decisions...
Leo is very big in size, small battery, no 3g calling.
the only thing it has better then the TD2 is the processor.
i agree about the leo being to big. i just got the htc pure yesterday and starting to really love it. feels great in hand. its taking a little to get used to it coming from the fuze. the leo is just the first step. there will be more like it im pretty sure in the future. hopefully with a smaller screen.
Just buy your TD2 with a 1-year contract, by end of next year there will likely be a few snapdragon based phones to choose from. I'm sure you'll have different screen sizes to choose from at that point. Personally I would have gone that way but my company buys my phone so I got stuck with a 2 year on my new Imagio.

Legend compared to x10?

Hello guys,
There might be many other threads with the same topic, anyway In my area Legends go for the same price as an x10, which is 350 Canadian. so, I'm trying to make my mind which to get. I know legend is Htc and has multi touch, and x10 has an 4 display with better display.
so, I wanted to know your opinion on which is great for the buck?
Go for the Legend. Software can look outdated in a few years but with a phone design like that it will still look good and you will still be able to take it out in public.
If you don't play too much games go for the legend. It sure is thing of beauty. But performancewise, it would be hard to beat x10 after they get updated to 2.1 or 2.2 its just that no one knows when that will happen =P
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
As for me the x10 look much sexy to me, and its better on performance.
One drawback is the updates which is so late to this point.
But in terms of hardware the x10 rulez.
sent from my x10i that is banging for a 2.1 upgrade. ...
I had x10i before HTC Legend.... X10 is a very interesting device, what's better in x10 is a larger display.... I don't play games so X10's cpu doesn't matter for me. Display in legend is much more better, finnally it's amoled. Legend's camera in spite of lower resolution takes better photos for me. in X10 I had problems with auto focus, photos haven't good contrast. I also didn't like x10's speaker. the music was very poor both in speaker and headphones.... What's much better in the legend is the cover, it looks very solid in difference to X10... After a month of using X10 in the leather case I ve noticed that there swabs on the back of phone because of taking out of the case..... I also hate X10 's call speaker... I simply couldn't hear my calls, for example during driving a car.. The voice was extremally quiet. Finally, the Legend is handier than X10, now I can write messages using one hand I don't say that x10 is a bad phone because I was excited by it but I prefer Legend
Between Legend and X10, I would definitely pick X10. It just needs an OS update. In my place, X10 costs 5k rupees more than Legend and for X10 price, one can get Samsung Galaxy S or Milestone.
Also, look for phones like Galaxy S, Desire. These are better than Legend and X10.
from my pov x10 just have better camera with bigger screen , but everything elese is better on the legend the quality of the amoled screen , faster , newer software , the htc sense is really cool , the buildquality and the price the cpu is better on the x10 but i tried it and i really don't know how it;s better in this sluggish phone ( compared to the legend ) and finally rumors says that legend will get the 2.2 which will make it superfast .. and the x10 just will get the 2.1 maybe in the next year
I tried the x10 out, and it's too plasticly also the No search button, also 1.6 is not awesome at all. I guess I'm just going pay 400 bucks and buy it brand new from Virgin mobile. Do there sell the phone without contact? Because Bell is selling it for like 450.. and virgin has it for 350( sweet deal lol)

i work for virgin mobile in canada, and have the legend. i say wait a bit longer as i just found out today that we will be releasing the galaxy S "vibrant" within a week or 2 and i would strongly recommend getting that instead. it will beat out both the legend and x10 with a better screen and processor.
like i said, i have to legend right now and love it, i played with the x10 a few times but once you have multitouch its tough to live without, even knowing your device doesn't support it sucks. sadly the x10 will never support true multitouch as the screen doesn't allow it. 2.2 or not.
i will be swapping my legend in for the galaxy s when we get it in. so i'll be able to let you know which one i like more, spec and performance wise if your willing to wait.
--edit-
and yes we sell phones without a contract. you have to go on whats called a 30 day plan just to get it started, but you can cancel out of it after the month

Should I upgrade?..

Hi everyone..
I'm thinking of upgrading from my old htc vogue to something newer.. and faster, maybe with a keyboard as well?
What I had in mind was a htc touch pro or htc touch pro 2 maybe even the diamond (which I heard was laggy)
My current phone works fine but runs android slowly and also crashes.
I have the boost mobile service right now and is what I wish to stick with..
Is it worth the upgrade or should I stick with the vogue?
And are these phones any good or are there others that you'd like to recommend to me.
I'd appreciate all the advice you give me just place me in the right path.
What I really want is
Good graphics
Better speed
Good camera 3 mp and up (I must say the htc vogue camera sucks big time..)
Something easier to text on
Larger screen
Thanks a bunch!
And sorry if its in the wrong area I've been searching around trying to figure out where to place this.
The HTC Dream is a pretty nice phone! Also Xperia phones are really good for the camera, speed and usability. The slide out keyboard is slick on those phones. If you really want a HTC phone with a keyboard, I'd recommend an HTC Dream or Touch Pro2. If you're open to other brands, take a look at Sony's phones.
Yeah but I have sprint/boostmobile.. So sticking with a cdma phone I love the tp2 but hate the price I kind of like the tp1 but its kind of thick.. and the price isnt amazing either.. But I really need a new phone..
I heard pros and cons for the tp2 too.

[Q] What is the best WinMo6.5.x phone w/ keyboard?

I know at one point, it was the HTC Touch Pro 2...is that still the consensus, or has something else come out to knock it off the pedestal?
TP2 still rulez!
I have it and i'm so happy with it.....
I'd have to agree... I've got a Tilt 2 with Energy ROM and it does everything I want it to and just works. The AT&T ROM is well bloated though, as everyone knows.
I haven't used it, but Samsung B7610 OmniaPRO has pretty nice specs, probably the fastest WM6.x phone with a keyboard.
And the winner is... ** HTC Universal **
Absolutely no contest!
The Uni was an awesome device, I still have mine. It originally come with WM5 but could be upgraded to 6.1 ad 6.5 no problem and was a very much loved device on XDA.
Cant beat a Wizard or a Kaiser! They are the best...
Hi!
I'm with TheATHEiST the JasJar or Universal was the best for me... but now I have a HD2 T-mobile dual sim with an BT keyboard... the camera 8.1mp it's little bit better than HD2 and it comes with internal 8GB works awesome!!!
Im going to say the Sony Ericsson Xperia X2, i just picked one up from ebay for $150 and its actually a really nice little phone. I have a HTC Desire Z (very similar to a touch pro2 but newer with andriod) as my non work phone and the xperia is smaller and has a nicer keyboard then the HTC shame win6.5 takes a bit of getting used to and can be quite sluggish compared to andriod. The hardware of the Xperia is much nicer though, solid metal housing and the slide mech is perfect.
