[Q] What is the best WinMo6.5.x phone w/ keyboard? - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

I know at one point, it was the HTC Touch Pro 2...is that still the consensus, or has something else come out to knock it off the pedestal?

TP2 still rulez!
I have it and i'm so happy with it.....

I'd have to agree... I've got a Tilt 2 with Energy ROM and it does everything I want it to and just works. The AT&T ROM is well bloated though, as everyone knows.

I haven't used it, but Samsung B7610 OmniaPRO has pretty nice specs, probably the fastest WM6.x phone with a keyboard.

And the winner is... ** HTC Universal **
Absolutely no contest!
The Uni was an awesome device, I still have mine. It originally come with WM5 but could be upgraded to 6.1 ad 6.5 no problem and was a very much loved device on XDA.

Cant beat a Wizard or a Kaiser! They are the best...

Hi!
I'm with TheATHEiST the JasJar or Universal was the best for me... but now I have a HD2 T-mobile dual sim with an BT keyboard... the camera 8.1mp it's little bit better than HD2 and it comes with internal 8GB works awesome!!!

Im going to say the Sony Ericsson Xperia X2, i just picked one up from ebay for $150 and its actually a really nice little phone. I have a HTC Desire Z (very similar to a touch pro2 but newer with andriod) as my non work phone and the xperia is smaller and has a nicer keyboard then the HTC shame win6.5 takes a bit of getting used to and can be quite sluggish compared to andriod. The hardware of the Xperia is much nicer though, solid metal housing and the slide mech is perfect.

Pros and Cons

Hey everyone, I am planning to get the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1.
I would like to know everyone views on how horrible or Great this phone is.
My current phone atm is the HTC Diamond, i regret getting it because i could of got the HTC touch PRO instead.
Is this phone worth getting?
Better or worse than HTC Diamond?
Thanks, i await your replies.
I can't compare it with HTC Diamond or other Windows-Phone as I never had any WindowsMobile-driven device. Xperia is my first and surely the last one. I have already ordered a replacement. There will be no Microsoft soon in my pocket
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=459406&highlight=x1+touch+pro
xperia is nice and all but i dont think it was worth 800 bucks that i paid.
pros: small phone, nice screen and resolution
cons: price, screen too small if your going to use it as primary browser.
its a good phone if your on the go and you want something that you can pocket.

comparison between diamond and diamond2

first of all, sorry if i'm posting something that has been discussed before. the search function didn't prop anything useful, and as you can see i am a user of this forum.
if this has already been discussed, please give me a link of the topic.
my obvious question is if it is worth it to buy the diamond2 instead of putting its software on the original diamond. besides that, how is the better hardware working ? especially the gps chip ? same problems ?
any thoughts are much appreciated. thanks
What can I say... Diamond 2 is better on every aspect compared to the Diamond. I still got my old Diamond and I just started it up and it felt so bad using it if I compare to the D2.
To sum up everything: D2 is BETTER.
it would be strange to be otherwise. I mean, it's Diamond 2 sooo, tehnically, it comes as an upgrade. It would be strange to be a worse phone. Diamond 2 comes with some solutions to problems in D1.
The GPS is okay, after you have downloaded quickGPS, the connection is within seconds (4-5). I'd use iGo with GPS, it's great. Audio is good, many features. Any more questions? Cheers!!!
I had the Diamond for some days and I hated it. The screen is to small for such a device for my POW. The design is also ugly compared to TD2 (my pow again). I actually only got the TD2 because it was cheap and my plan was to sell it again. But I ended up keeping it. I think it's a great phone but battery life could be better.. GPS is working flawlessly tomtom with no probs what so ever
I used the Diamond for over a year.. it was a great phone however it always felt slightly slow, now on the diamond 2 (which i have now) the specs are very similar however the phone feels much much better!
On the diamond I was flashing roms every couple of days, never satisfied.
On the diamond 2 im sitting on the stock rom!!! ..go figure! Fantastic phone.
There was a dust under the screen issue with D2. Any of you owners still experience it or did HTC correct the problem?

I have not experienced any dust under my screen yet.
u can find pretty nice overview of both over here: http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=2368&idPhone2=2689
btw d2 ownz))im just so happy for it...
Diamond 2 is much better than Diamond in every aspect. But HTC has announced lots of new phones, Touch Pro 2, HD 2. These are all the nice device comparing with Diamond 2. And the HTC LEO will be announced soon. I believe it'll be a great device.
HTC LEO is one gigantic device. I love what it can do but you need a breefcase to carry it around....might as well just carry a netbook.

Yeah, HTC announces phones larger and larger. At first HD is large enough and a little bit larger for porket. Now they announced LEO.....Anyway if the phone is really top device, the size doesn't matter.
I switched from the diamond to the diamond2, and until now i regret it!
Maybe technically the d2's pecs are far more better than the original, but i've had a lot of problems with it. Freezes a lot of times (T-mobile stock rom), and the promised improved battery life is still bad (charge every 3 days, with normal use).
The worst part are the look and feel of the td2. Compared to the original i now have a brick in my pocket, the original was so much slimmer than this one! The t-mobile design is that bad that i can't use any car kit because t-moile decided to use a cap in front of the usb-port.
thanks for the replies guys. especially yours hellboy1970. it was clear that the d2 would be better than the d1 in the usual aspects - hardware, battery life, minor fixes, etc. but what i was asking was if it is actually worth it switching .. i mean, the differences between a customized diamond with all the apps and roms and all that and a, so far, stock d2.
of course the d2 will eventually receive more interest than the d1, and i'll switch too by that time, but right now, money wise and all that.
anyway, thanks. i'm thinking of keeping my d1 until d2 lowers its price a bit
Diamond 1 it's a joke compared to D2...
I just flashed the D2 ROM (AZTOR) to my D1 and i'm really fascinated about what a software can do with a device. First i had O2 SW, then some custom ROMs, then original HTC and now this D2 Rom. It's ingenious.
I see the only real disadvantage of the D1 in the "small" display.
I don't care about my GPS taking 3 mins to find a satellite - i usually know at least the direction where i want to go.
So in my eyes, the D2 is a good and certainly better device, but if you own a D1 it's just not worth switching.

No problem. With frequent use, I am sure it will break off and the T-Mobile will be just like the HTC

Htc hd2 pro?

Guess What Comes After the HTC HD2? The HD2 Pro
Hmmmm... Now I want the PRO version..
I guess I will sell my unit when the PRO is available.
more info @ http://pocketnow.com/rumor/guess-what-comes-after-the-htc-hd2-the-hd2-pro
I might be wrong, but I don't think it will happen. The same question was asked when the Touch HD was launched but nothing appeared. First was the Diamond/Pro, then Diamond2/Pro, but no HD/HD pro...
I have serious doubts over the claim too.
HTC are probably quite happy with the staggered releases at the high end with the trio of compact (Diamond), media (HD) and professional w/ keyboard (Pro). I just don't see the demand there for a 2nd line of high end keyboard devices. I doubt HTC do, either.
The article the original poster linked to is pure speculation, but sensible speculation; it's suggesting simply that in 6 months or so there will probably be a replacement model for the Touch Pro2, which will have the same relationship to the HD2 as the Touch Pro2 had to the Touch HD. This seems like a fairly safe bet.
3 months since the original post, has anybody heard anything further on a HD2 Pro or TP3?
This does not likely happen. HTC is developing in a way without qwerty keyboard. Legend, HD Mini, Desire, Incredible. No phone with a physics keyboard at all
This is great news! two power buttons? one at the top, and one at the end call key?
HD2 with twice the thickness? No thanks!
It's obviously fake... +I don't like it..
may be it will be like the new toshiba ko1 4.1 inch screen with snapdragon processor and capastive screen but little more thicker than hd2

all this talk of new phones has made me kind of nolstagic..so I went hunting last night and found my very first XDA....an O2 Orbit.
That was (and perhaps still is) my greatest phone. It never let me down, it had lots of fantastic features (LED indicators you could actually see, a hardware camera button, a battery that lasted 3 days +, great build quality, hardware buttons, plus a trackball and a track 'ring'), it fitted my hand perfectly. Ok, compared to phones nowadays it would be slow...but it sure was a good one when it was released....which is why I've never sold it like I have all my other phones.
now I seem to be going backwards and wanting the old phones to make a comback..if only my next phone was as good to me as the Orbit was....

Upgrading to a Pure?

So its my time to upgrade with AT&T, and I was dead set on getting a new Android phone from them. They currently only have the Moto back-flip, which I will pass on. Instead of waiting to see what HTC will announce what Android phone they will release, (not counting the Nexus One, too expensive!) I noticed that they have the Pure for only a $.01 to upgrade. Now I will be up grading from a Samsung Blackjack II, so I am used to Windows mobile (stuck at 6.1), I was just hoping for some pros or cons about the phone. Thx
My Pure has been a pleasant surprise..I previously have had 3 HTC wm devices. I found I do not miss the slideout keyboard. Personally, I like both wm 6.5 and the Pure. Device has been very stable, only one Hard Reset, but that was due to a crappy download that locked my device. GO FOR IT.
I think you should depending on what you want or used to. The pure is a well built phone with a very responsive screen, i moved from a AT&T FUZE recently. I can tell you that the phone has all the features you are used to as a winmo user but other than that not much new. You will definitely will want to update the OS and new manilla sense with custom roms to make it more usable.
cons like-
Housing makes phone a finger print magnet- wish at&t would have used metal housing of touch diamond 2 instead.
No flash for camera
Even though zoom bar seems ideal, it inst implemented good enough and used alot by me.
Still no 3.5 audio jack
No physical keyboard-though makes phone thiner-makes typing a hassle at times
Pros-
Keyboard/can be cuztomized by other keyboards like Sw*pe, and ect.
Nice 3.2 inch display
5 mega pixel camera
Gps works better than expected
Quick charging times
Side speaker- since the rear speaker is placed on the side-works much nicer and clearer this way
this are just a few things that i have noticed. Hope it helps.
Thank you jdwilson and alexisprz for you advise. I ordered the phones this morning and I'm sure I'll be pleased. From what you both told me and the reviews, comments I've read, the pro's out-way the con's (ie. no flash, no 3.5mm jack) are not a huge deal too me. Once again thx, I look forward to playing around with my new toy soon!

Should I upgrade?..

Hi everyone..
I'm thinking of upgrading from my old htc vogue to something newer.. and faster, maybe with a keyboard as well?
What I had in mind was a htc touch pro or htc touch pro 2 maybe even the diamond (which I heard was laggy)
My current phone works fine but runs android slowly and also crashes.
I have the boost mobile service right now and is what I wish to stick with..
Is it worth the upgrade or should I stick with the vogue?
And are these phones any good or are there others that you'd like to recommend to me.
I'd appreciate all the advice you give me just place me in the right path.
What I really want is
Good graphics
Better speed
Good camera 3 mp and up (I must say the htc vogue camera sucks big time..)
Something easier to text on
Larger screen
Thanks a bunch!
And sorry if its in the wrong area I've been searching around trying to figure out where to place this.
The HTC Dream is a pretty nice phone! Also Xperia phones are really good for the camera, speed and usability. The slide out keyboard is slick on those phones. If you really want a HTC phone with a keyboard, I'd recommend an HTC Dream or Touch Pro2. If you're open to other brands, take a look at Sony's phones.
Yeah but I have sprint/boostmobile.. So sticking with a cdma phone I love the tp2 but hate the price I kind of like the tp1 but its kind of thick.. and the price isnt amazing either.. But I really need a new phone..
I heard pros and cons for the tp2 too.
