So I just got my Mogul, and trying to find software for it is really annoying. no list of programs with screen shots, each program type has about 40 different homebrewed versions, most of the stuff doesn;t have a lonk to download anything, no homepage reference so you don't know if you're downloaded a version 4 versions older than the current, piss poor instructions on howw to actually use it, etc.
Is there an actual list of software links, that is updated with the most recent verion, of sotware for this phone? For example, I'm interested in adding that "Cube" menuing system, and doing a Google search returns 50 different versions of 20 different pieces of software linking to pages with older versions of the software that doesn't even work.
Is there a commonly accepted "best" cube type mening system out there? how about a commonly accepted "best" iPhone like interface?

Um, there are literally THOUSANDS of programs that work on the Titan. It doesnt take a lot of work searching to find programs that are awesome. Try using the search feature of this website or ppcgeeks to find what you need instead of asking someone to deliver it to you.
Searching is your best answer. Making a list of the most currnet builds out there (some of which the most current isn't the "best") of software out there would be obselete in a months time. I've got the best results with trial and error in finding what works with my setup (hardware, rom and radio).
Thousands? I've downloaded about 20, and TWO work. the rest do NOTHING, due to obscure compatability problems, some random patch being required that no one seems to have, or it just flat out won't work, period. It;s incredibly frustrating.
Most have said it. You need to do your own research and on top of that what's good for you may not be good for someone else. In a way this is the fun part - the searching for the good stuff. Also, I take much advise from the experts on this and other forums.
In any case, you can't *****. The source of this software is coming from thousands of people/companies. Some write something good and just dump it on a server for others to download and offer little to no documentation. BUT... you pay nothing in many cases (can't ***** there). ANd it's almost always "run at your own risk!".
Want something stable, documented, and supported by a company... stay stock (OEM). Wait... my stock software was not stable, not well documented, and hardly supported (Sprint). As a matter of fact an alpha ROM I am running now is much better than the OEM software that the phone came with.
Willing alpha and beta tester,
tsp
Mogul w/ 6.1, 3.16, 3.27, 60711, NexVision Alpha ROM.
YMMV
make sure you are downloading ppc applications and not smartphone ones, and that you are downloading applications for WM6. If the app doesn't work then search the forums to see what other peoples experience is with that program.
while some of the responses here have been a little abrupt, you need to understand that your request is literally impossible. Nobody could possibly compile of a list of all the software that can run on the mogul.
Here are some things to try, though:
Search the forums for "best programs" and such things
Download different windows mobile apps and try them -- I've rarely found any that don't work.
Figure out what functionality you're looking for, and search specifically for that.
At the very least, if you want to post a query such as this one, you need to specify what exactly you're looking for. Our friend above wasn't exagerating when he said that there are thousands of apps that run on the mogul. If you're new to windows mobile, it'll take some getting used to. Be patient and read a lot. you'll figure it out.
Most people on this board are happy to help you with problems, but they do expect that you exert some energy on your own. If they feel like you haven't, they get touchy.
This thread might become a little more useful for you if you were to say what you are looking for (for example, if you're looking for a good program for maps and such that uses a data connection, I recommend Google Maps (visit http://m.google.com from your mobile phone)
Hope this helps, and good luck!
id say VITO SMS CHAT v1.0.1 is almost a must have if u text alot and have a stock ROM...most the custom ROMS have some form of threaded SMS added for u...but stock ROMS dont and this is a very nice program...i dont use this site much, but im on ppcgeeks 24/7 and i know we have a thread about it there...
also if ur looking for a nice web browser check out netfront browser 3.5 is pretty quick and it loads full websites not just the mobile version...and if u use myspace it actually loads the persons page background...its in beta now till may 31st, but if u search hard enough u can find ANY ppc program for free
I tried searching for a while now. After a failed ROM update I lost all my apps so I am re-customizing everything. How do you change the Title on the Home page? Right now it says: 'TELUS' but that's a little tacky. Can someone guide me to the right post?
Titan Apps
I have quite a few apps that I have been collecting would be happy to contribute to the list let me know...also in the development and hacking section there is a huge list of HTC apps that are pretty much always a go on the Titan.
I am new to this site.. I have a moguel.. and I would love to know what programs u have..please contact me at [email protected] with the info..please and thank u.

i'm a noob as well but i read a bunch.thing is there are terms and titles that make reading these threads as bad as reading the bible at times.i tried a bunch of stuff since i had my mogul.i removed a bunch of stuff as well.but right now i use spb mobile shell, pocket plus, fun contact,s2play,s2u2,weather panel<-------- wich is cool as hell but takes a bunch of tweaking imo to get to run right.(still haven't got my radar images right)gpstoday, thumbcal, and a bunch of games.i'm not an expert by far but i know these apps work fine on my device.
this is pretty confusing but this is the index i use to keep track of all the apps that both work and are user-friendly(to an extent).
its kind of hard to understand of you havent written it but what ever
if you have any questions feel free to ask.
EDIT:btw i have all of these stored. (as in .cabs, .exes....)

By the way, the cube isn't all its made out to be. TouchFLO is worth it, but I find myself constantly bringing up the cube on accident, not to mention that its stays in the background after launching. (eating up 8-9% of memory) It's nice to play with, and its great for showing off the capabilities of the phone but in the end, for me, it just wasn't worth it.
Then again, to each their own. Truly, TRY programs out. People like different things so you can't always trust a stranger to give you accurate advice.
I was once a "noob," having switched from Palm to come over to the "dark side" (remind me of the Mac vs PC thing). I have the VZW XV6800 with DCD's 2.3.2 rom onboard. I have thrashed and trashed my poor PPC many times before getting it stable the way I want. I have the following recommendations to all "noobs" who want to see "what works and what doesn't."
1) Don't fear the hard reset. If things go completely screwy, simply start from scratch. I store all my cab files on the card for this purpose. BTW, I have never needed to call Verizon after a hard reset. I simply *228 to program the SPL and "everyting is irie mon."
2) Make every effort to find the answer yourself before posting a question anywhere. You are likely not the first person to have whatever problem you think you have. To coin a phrase, "the truth is out there." If you don't have the time to search for the answer, you probably shouldn't be putsing (a technical term) with your phone. Check here and over at PPCGeeks.
3) Figure out which base application you cannot live without. ake sure that each works with the other by soft resetting after each install and working the phone a bit before loading another. My base for instance is: SPB Mobile Shell 2; PhoneWeaver; WisBar Advance; Live Search; Google Maps; Opera Mini 4; Resco Backup; Resco file Explorer; and SK Tools. I know they work well, and work together. I always load these first after a hard reset.
4) Get a good backup program (Sprite, SPB Backup, Resco), and use it daily or at least before each new testing round.
5) Backup your registry and save the backup in a safe place (card) in case.
6) Test new applications one at a time, with soft reset after each installation. Do not load another new app, until you are sure that you're happy with the previoous one or have fully uninstalled it.
7) Have fun! Be happy! Don't forget that it's just a damned phone with benefits.
those are some nice tips for someone who is new jgilfor. do you mind if i quoted you in my sig or something? (pm me)
warez i use
After going through this thread, i decided to add the apps i run to my sig. When i get home i'll add some more.
I don't know if it's a good idea or not but maybe i could throw up a page with links to the software? Unless i can upload them all here.
What do you vets think?
It's probably a better request to ask for the programs that each person uses. That's more useful than trying to get a list of every single program out there. With a program name and some patience, then you should be able to find the right install file. If not, then this phone was probably not meant for you, sorry. =( Maybe a Nokia? lol, j/k!
Anyways, I like GhettoBSD's idea! I keep a list of programs that I use so that I know what to reinstall after a ROM flash:
Nilisco Flashlight
HTC Voice Recorder
HTC Home and emunutz HTC Home Customizer
HTC Audio Manager
Skunkworks FlashVideoBundle and TCPMP
Lordsmiff Battery Level
Jorrit Jongma WMWifiRouter
JRebeiro EsmertecJbed and Opera Mini
Stroths-Codyppc Led Killer 3.1
Oxios Memory
CooTek Cooperation Touchpal
GoogleMaps
PPCpimBackup
TomCo Solutions Stopwatch
Do you have a link for the HTC voice recorder that works with Mogul, I tried some but are not working. Cab installs the application, but when trying to record, always get an empty fie of 6b. No matter how long I record always have an empty file named voice00x with size of 6b. Or whay Im doing wrong? I installed the same file in a tytn and works perfect.
Here is what i use
Opera mini (great little browser)
DinarSoft MemMaid ( cleans out junk and temp/ frees memory too)
DinarSoft Handyswitcher (awesome taskbar app with cpu /memory usage that can be on top toolbar in every ap)
Shape Services IM+ ( great instant messanging app )
PPC geeks battery and performance reg hack
acbPowerMeter ( shows how much power apps consume, good for measuring 3g versus no internet use )
Blue Frog Touch Dialer, (htc diamond style dialer , skinable , bigger button layout very cool )
Led Killer 3.1 ( disables annoying flashing green service led )
HTC home plugin schen 2.10 ( nice gui mod, for weather and apps)
Youtubeplay
Total Commander
lokmeup IE Slow Scroll Fix
Google maps
Cloudyfa EsmertecJbed ( java)
PocketCM keyboard
RARLab pocket rar
Sipchange ( change keyboard tool )
someguy sMMS ( adds ability to send picture sms , providing you get your key from the sprint website)
PocketIRC ( mirc application)
Oxios memory ( free tool to free up unused memory)
TRE Pocket PC (free registry editor)
Okay, I'm going to assume that I'm not the only person to try this. I would like to run WeatherPanel in conjunction with Touchflo2d. Not necessarily INSIDE TouchFlo, I know thats impossible (as of now, or ever, lol). But I've been trying different ways to have both plugins running in tandem.
Ultimate Launch does not work. At first, I thought that it was was the a screen issue, maybe the dynamic plugin sizing from UL was not compatible, and if I just changed it to the max static size and deleted the UL tabs from view, that maybe it would do the trick. Wrong. Using TF2d as a tab under UL will cause UL to close instantly.
Next up, FtouchSL, maybe I can just assign a gesture to Ftouch and open close weatherpanel from there. However (why I never bothered to check this before embarasses me), there is no exe or lnk to speak of the FtouchSL directory. AFAIK, you cant assign a dll or other random file to use in that program.
My next try is Mortscript, but I don't know a thing about it really. Luckily, the rom I'm using now (SJ's HyperDragon III) has mortscript installed, but I still need to work on a shortcut. I have done plenty of searches, and have not come up with anything in this realm.
While I know that it isnt possible for these two plugins to share screen space, I was trying to find out if there is a way to enable/close a today plugin via Mortscript or any other means - AND be launchable from another today plugin, namely the programs tab of TouchFlo2d.
I will continue working on this, and I would appreciate any input from experienced (read - mature) people with reasonable insight or advice.
Thanks,
Colin
*edit* Hell, even if I could make a simple .exe to launch is as a program instead of a plugin. has this ever been approached before?
http://www.chi-tai.info/cs_wm_tools_im_cs.htm#SecondToday
Wow. Even better than I thought, using this I just mapped Second Today to my PTT button. Thanks so much.
Also the other thing that I kinda stumbled into, was that for those of you running Dynamo, used in conjunction with SecondToday, you will always have the 2 screens to select from. Just an FYI.
The HD2 is a remarkable device. It's one of a kind. It is sad that even with such hardware, the manufacturers have limited its customizability...
Here are a few things which will enable any new owner to bring out the best in the phone without the fear of bricking...
Of course, there are more out there, but I have listed the most essential apps and tweaks. Feel free to add more as they come out.
1) Cookies Home Tab + Editor. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633590
2) cleanRAM (from Omarket). Excellent tool for freeing RAM memory. http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-cleanram.html
3)BsB Tweaks http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=589305
4)Opera Mobile 10 (get it from the official site)
5)Core Player
6)G-Alarm
7)Glossy task bars http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=642832
8)Resco Photo Manager
9)Battery indicator in % http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=584772
I'm sure there are more out there but due to lack of time (okay...so I'm a bit lazy...) I couldn't list them.
So here are the 8 essential things!
first to click yes!
A thread like this has already been made, here.
The problem with most people who voted anything but "no" is because:
1) They stupidly fell for the 4.3 inch screen
2) Tinkering is not for them
3) Neglected to realize that it "just (Doesnt) work" like an iphone
4) They have too much problems because they stuck with the stock rom
5) They simply got a crappy HD2 from a horrible batch.
I give the benefit of the doubt and say, you got #5.

Well, I guess its just me, but having two black bars at both ends of a big screen didn't quiet appeal to me...
esstianal things i couldn't do with out on my HD2?
Well there is the speed tweaks. If you have a decent task amanger you have no need for cleanram so dutty's task manager (or something similar). Chainfires 3D driver is a just, as is LCS.
I couldn't go with out office 2010 either but i am intrigued by the choice of opera 10. last time i checked it didn't support pinch zoom so i'd have to say opera 9.7 (but i don't use flash sites that often)

Yes and i'm bored of explaining what LCS is so find the search button and you're question will be answered.
opera 10 sucks big hairy donkey balls compared to 9.7
In my opinion anyway.
I think you should have included a registry editor in your list too.
Id find that far more useful on a daily basis than g alarm or resco photo manager, not saying they aren't worth having I just don't see them as essential.
to a certain extent i do agree with yur there, conantroutman, but i think that most "normal" users wouldn't need it. I do use my reg editor a lot but i'm a techie and a tweaker so i find it useful.
I did think of another essential program. The facebook v1.2 app from MS marketplace. It's much better than the stock one. I also missed out wifi remote access but it's at this point i feel like i'm covering out ground.
as already been told, duttys task manager is essencial... really... the first thing i would isntall is:
hotfixes from HTC
duttys taskmanager
enchansed TUrnOFF button
Core PLayer
Navigation Soft
Microsoft Net Framework 3.5
some custom BAR (already includes battery lfe in %) dependes again...
social network tools... (depends what u really use)
thats it.
I know this is shameless self-promotion, but the guide in my sig has what I consider must-have tweaks and apps.
- LMT. Using gestures to start programs.
- *A decent task manager.
- Norton Commander pocket, the freeware finger friendly beta (including ftp and registry editor)
- Uzard or Skyfire as backup flash browser.
- BSB tweaks. I love the 'add program to auto rotation' function amongst others, bringing rotation to many more programs.
- DroppedBoxx. to send to and store cabs and other files between my PC and phone.
- BatClock, display battery, signal strength, time and much more in the top bar.

that's remote desktop. this little app allows you to make file transfer, registry changes etc over the wifi. no need for the cable.
Hello Chefs, this is my first post in the Chef area. I have been a member for quite some time and have enjoyed ROM's from many Chefs across several platforms.
To my question. I have begun cooking with OSKitchen (thanks for that btw!). I have successfully picked apart the leaked TILT 2 rom with Sense 2.5 and removed pretty much ALL of the AT&T add on with the exception of the theme.
As I have worked on customizing the ROM I have added in several features that I liked. Recent calls, manila TV, facebook tabs.... Im about to try the doc indexer/readers etc.. One item in particular is the HTC Task Manager. It was in my favorite ROM (from my sig) and I really like the compact size and functionality + LOW footprint(or so I thought).
It took a while to find a CAB that worked in 2.5 in the end I found one named: HTC_TASK_MANAGER_2_1_3 etc.... that said it was functional in 2.5
I made an EXT out of it and it worked with a little reg file updating. It reported about 92MB Free and I was thrilled as RAM = better/smoother performance on this older device. The only problem I was having with it was that the text was black on a dark grey. I turned to the ROM I had been using and pulled out all the same files and reg entries that existed in it as were in my package as it was white on grey text. I replaced them in the EXT package and recompiled the ROM. Voila! White text on Grey.
Now to the problem. Suddenly I am seeing about 75MB RAM Free (pretty much what I see when using teh chefs ROM). So now I start comparing the two.
No task manager in the ROM I see 92MB Free under Settings -> System -> Memory. I install the cab for task manager I found manually on top of the ROM, 92 MB free. I copy over the other chefs files and it doesnt work now. I recompile with the updated task manager from the other ROM and 75MB free?!
ALL this time I have been comparing to the memory tool under Settings --> System --> Memory and they agree 100%. They are the same program opened either from the system menu or the task manager I realize (or they at least appear to be the same. I do not seem to be replacing any files in the ROM so my question is simple. Is there a known issue with HTC Task manager and incorrectly reporting RAM? Due to the agreement in memory used I am inclined to believe that it is the Task manager itself that is USING the ram (15MB is ridiculous I know) but what other explanation is there if it is not wrong?!
Any thoughts or input from the seasones chefs would be appreciated.
Thanks!
P.S. Yes I searched. There were about 5 hits on HTC Task Manager and none had to do with memory.
There's never anything about htc packages that is 'low footprint' imo. They usually have hundreds of files when 2 would do the job. How many files are in that package? 100? Seriously, there are far better task managers out there than HTC's. I recommend using XTask. It has four files, totalling maybe 100 kb, and it has much more funtionality than htc's TM.
Seriously, just look at a typical HTC Long Press End-Key package. It's about 200 files just to allow you to lock your device or do maybe two other things. That's the HTC way.

It has 50 files, most images 3 language files and 2 exes and 2 dll's.
Edit: So I added your suggested task manager and it agrees with the older taskman 94MB free however it flickers at the top regularly
I don't know why xtask is flickering, but I suspect that it is puking over the fact that it has to live in the same device as the crappy htc task manager. Try cooking in xtask. There isn't much to making a package-just put the two .exe's straight into windows (as well as the 2 mui's), then put in a reg file for xtask (HKLM\Software\XTask), and either a shortcut in startup for xhook.exe or a reg key in HKLM\init (what I do). My guess is that you're getting flickering because the two task managers are fighting over the task bar.
Fifty files for a lightweight task manager that doesn't do a whole hell of a lot is ridiculous. I'm actually surprised it's only fifty files, though.
Edit: an init key looks like this; launch it near the end of the queue, and test out before cooking.
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\init]
"Launch130"="XHook.exe"

I removed the HTC Task manager before trying it and reflashed. To tell the truth I have probably flashed 30-40 times in the last 3 days. It flickers when I add the Memory status display. I don't intent to leave it up forever but just commenting that it flickers.

Yeah, I don't use the memory notification; I've got a today plugin that shows available RAM. It may flicker due to the task manager refresh cycle, or something like that. I personally just don't like the looks of it on the task bar.
So oddly... here is what is going on that I have tested on this.
If I Cook In the HTC task manager that I have it works fine. If I replace taskserv.dll (in my EXT Package) from ROM I got it from that makes the text white the way I want it to be and cook that ROM up the memory is reports as 75MB Free rather than 94MB free I got with the original DLL.
So now to the really odd part. I can cook in the stock EXT Package I made with the DLL that reports 94MB Free on boot up, copy over it with the one that makes the text white and reboot. Now I have white text and it still says 94 MB Free.... WTF?
I am trying showcase now, I am familiar with that and there are some things I am not crazy about on X-Button (although it is quite nice).
I found this other taskmanager in my EXT folder ,guess it is from Xperia, feel free to try it.
It seems that Htc TaskManager has some problems, now i uderstand why it isnt activated by default in Stock Hd2 Rom lol.
I never check if i ever had your problem im my Rom but i noticed that with HTC TaskManager active Sense took long time to load, i switched immediatly to ShowCase lol.

Wow, that one is very different from what I have. Might have to give it a go.
showcase was oddly flaky. I had to tap & hold at the top right, two menu buttons appeared. When I let go to go click one I got the notification window telling me battery status and any notifications etc...
I am by no means an expert on this. I am learning new things every day here.
I have just had my HD2 a couple days, but have discovered (with help from posters here, a couple freeware apps from XDA, that I consider to be indispensable add-ons to the Sense UI that comes with the phone.
1. Co0kie's Home Tab Really an indispensable add-on to the Sense UI, exponentially adding to its customizability and functionality. IMO, HTC should buy the app from "Co0kie and integrate it into Sense, as it improves the UI 1000%. Here is the URL:

2. An add-on to #1--Co0kie's Home Tab Editor. (Also known as CHT Editor.) Of course this app requires #1, and #1 should be installed first. If you install #1, you really should install #2 as well. It is a separate app, with a separate discussion thread though. IMO it should be integrated into #1, rather than two separate apps. The thread for CHT Editor is at:

To me those two are must-haves, even after only having the phone a couple days, and never having used Sense UI before, or anything like it. As both those threads are in other forums, I have a suggestion--that a sticky thread be put in this forum, just to alert new users of this phone to those two apps.

While I am at it, I will mention one or two more.
As you may have discovered, the Start Menu on the HD2 (Sense UI) is WEIRD, disorganized, etc. Perhaps some people like it, but I sure don't. I would prefer the original WinMo Start Menu, but the only way to get back to that is to completely disable Sense UI, which is nice with the Cookie apps above.
Well--for one thing with CHT, the amount of QuickLinks one can have is up to I think about 75, compared with 9 in the original setup of HD2. With so many QuickLinks you nat not need to use a start menu much. However, if you would still like to use a menu as well, and a much better one than the one that comes by default on the phone, there is here on XDA an HD2 optimized version of QuickMenu. Before I knew about that, I tried the regular QuickMenu, a freeware WinMo menu program, available at many places. Nice app, but not finger-friendly, pretty much requires a stylus. Then I found and installed the HD2 version here on XDA--very finger friendly, with more features added as well, including a nice built-in task manager. A great menu add-on. Highly recommended. You can find QuickMenu HD2 edition at:

The following recommendation is not HD2 specific, but for all WinMo devices. (Also differing from the rest of this thread, as the following is a commercial program, not freeware.) But while I am recommending apps, I'll mention the following as well.
For those who find the built-in File Manager ("File Explorer") insufficient, I'll tell you what I use. Others may have other favorite file managers (some like Total Commander), but I really like Resco Explorer, and think it is well worth the money, if you need a better file manager. The current version is very finger-friendly, and customizable. It also includes a registry editor, and other add-ons. They have a 7 day full-featured trial available. (IMO, not long enough. Trials should last at least 30 days. Still, full-featured trials are better than crippled ones, and you might get some idea from the 7 day trial.)
would cleanRam be a good hd2 app?
