Ok, it is an old phone, but I like it a lot better than my Razr.
I have a battery problem I assume. The phone seems to turn off at random points, not long after I stop charging it. The phone works fine when charging, but when stop charging it it turns off with the batter at no lower than 85%, at least that's what the battery meter reads. I have ordered a replacement battery, but I was wondering if this sounds like a bettery problem, or worse. Anyone's help is going to be greatly appreciated. Also, when I try to turn it on after it shuts off on me, it goes trough the loading screen, to the windows screen and then shuts off, and starts over again.

I just got finished updating my 8125 that had similar concerns with hibernate mode and constant load and reload problems.
See the thread for need help, upgrading to ipl/spl 2.26 Tmobile seems to have helped, read the thread and look for zabardast_1 comments. Good luck, the instructions are clear and concise.
i can't find it. could you send me the link?
need help htc 8125 (Multi-page thread 1 2 3) try this
it's fried i think. the screen only flashes the three striped screen.
YES! it all seems to be a battery problem,it doesn't retain or have enough juice to complete the loading of OS,Get a new battery or borrow a battery from a friend to confirm if its due to weak/dead battery.
As long as it gets into Bootloaders (RGB) screen, nothing is fried, its ok,a G3 phones never dies like this, don't worry.Download official cingular rom from the link below and get the phone in Bootloaders and flash it,it'll start to work
http://download.america.htc.com/RUU_Wizard_225111_22511102_022511_CWS_WWE_Ship_1.exe
But,first,be sure of the battery!
cool. will a new battery charge when it's on the red green blue screen? i mean, once i put the new battery in, it will chatge and i can complete the update?

Hi All,
I have an MDA Vario that was working perfectly.
ROM Version 2.21.2.6 WWE
ROM Date 3/9/06
Radio Version 02.19.11
Protocol Ver 4.1.13.09
ExtROM ver 2.21.2.109
Very recently, I found that when I would hit the reset (soft boot) button it would not come back up. I found that if I would leave the battery out overnight and then put it in the morning it would switch on fine. A few days ago I though I would do a full reset via start>settings>system tab> Clear Storage. It looked like it did it ok but then the screen went white and now it wont switch on at all and appears to be dead. Even when I plug it into the mains charger the indicator light does NOT come on.
Have I killed my Vario? I hope not as it wasn't as though I flashed any firmware. Any ideas gratefully appreciated.

any help or ideas - like I said this was a working MDA vario and I have not tried to flash it or anything- thanks
Sounds like youve found the same bug that I did some time back. You have probably drained your battery all the way down. Look on ebay for a standalone battery charger, or get an additional battery. It seems that the Wizard can only charge its battery while it is fully booted up into windows. If you drain your battery down to nothing, and are unable to get all the way back into windows, the battery will never charge, unless you have a standalone charger.

If I recall correctly, there is a thread here somewhere that talks about battery recovery using a 9volt battery and some wire... seemed to work well for those who are stuck, no major surgery involved.

I wouldn't use a 9v battery. You'll kill the phone. Thats more than double the voltage that it should be getting. I did "jumpstart" mine using another MDA battery. What i did is in the link i posted previously.

What he said. It happened to me once too. What i did was i hooked up my phone to another (Nokia) battery using wires to my "dead" battery and booted into windows, once i did that i pulled the wires and was able to rechrge the battery.
thnxs for the replies - but that solution hasn't worked. I have another wizard as well and made sure the battery was fully charged and tried that - still no joy. I have a Voltmeter and it says the the battery has 4.17 Vdc
I still cannot get this wizard to boot up or the LED to light.
Any other ideas??
BTW - in my frustration I hooked up a 9 V dc battery that was reading 7 V or so and when I hook that up the camera flash light on the back comes on, but the phone still won't boot up..

In my case it was a hardware issue

heh. thanks, that's what I get for trying to remember something...

My phone tends to crash and reboot alot...
The only time i see it running fine is if it's running off the wall or car charger.
and sometimes, when I take it off the cable, it reboots...but the phone says the battery is @ 100% still...
Other times, it reboots mid call...overall, it tends to reboot whenever it feels like it...
I dont know whats wrong...
phone specs are:
NBD 7.9
--------
IPL: 2.25
SPL: 2.25
GSM:2.25.11
OS: 4.0.0.0
Does this still happen after a hard re-set? Cingular 8125
ROM 2.25.11.1
quite honestly? you described a faulty battery. when it's not being fed constant current from the wall or the car it crashes reboots or shuts down sounds like a bad battery to me.
get one on ebay for like 20 bucks and your problem should be well solved.
better yet, find a friend with the same phone (not easy to come by) and use his or her battery.
this is my firends phone - tmobile cmpact 2 - its never been cooked, standard wm5 rom and no upgrades or downloads. it suddenyl today entered bootload screen - we took out the battery restarted, then it loads to the tmobile splash screen the cuts off, now it wont even turn on
tried charging it, and the charge light doesnt ocm eon, any ideas??
Thanks
anyone?..........................................
You have to enter bootloader mode (look up the wiki for how to) and then run the official rom upgrade for charmer.
my charmer is also dead
right in the middle of typing in an adress at iGO on my Charmer with WM5 it started rebooting and turned black after the T-Mobile bootscreen. And I could only turn it on by removing the battery, waiting for some minutes and then turning on again, just to see the same thing happening - black after T-Mobile screen.
Now I cannot turn it on at all, cannot reset (neither hard nor soft), cannot get into bootloader nor can I charge it (at least no LED is indicating anything).
Does anybody have an idea? vlodeck?
At the moment I am not at home, so I cann't try the original power supply (so far I used the one in the car).
Thanks in advance!
There are two possible outcomes Jared.
Either your power supply in the car is not enough to lift up Charmer.
Or your battery went totally dead, in which case you would have to buy a new battery.
Good luck.
Thanks for the fast support!
the strange thing is, that it all started with battery at about 80%...
I will check on sunday with the original power supply and a battery from another device. Then I will let you know the outcome.
I can lend you my battery, Jared!
...to see if it is really the battery.
Otherwise I can only recommend the HTC Kaiser ;-)
problem solved for now
thanks frikibaby for the offer...
but vlodeck was right. At home I pluged in the charger and it started charging and I can also turn it on again. So for some reason my car charger does not charge the charmer anymore although the indicator and the battery bar says so ...???
Thanks for the support!!
hello all,
First post here! The charge icon on my 8125 is stuck on the charging icon. Sometimes I can unplug the phone from the charger then click on the battery and it will still show as charging. If that wasnt bad the battery lists as a constant 100% but then dies???? I did a hard reset and all still a no go? Any help?
???
Have you flashed your rom?......If so re-flash the rom.....if not call the At&t warrenty dept.
good luck
Nope no flashing of ROMs here.... too scared lol. I kinda did not want to go through the warranty dept. thought maybe someone else had this problem.
help please
bump for a solution! To add on to my problem the green led stays solid and the screen does not time out (doesnt not dim automatically). When going into my power settings it detects my battery but the power remaining stays at a constant 100%. The battery is the original manufacture battery, no flashing of any sort has been done to the phone. I dont even tamper with the registry. Confused....
update.. I flashed the phone with the offical HTC rom and the problem still remains. Running outta solutions to try. Has no one encountered this problem?
Daily Bump. Could it be a hardware issue?
Bump. I changed the battery with my wifes 8125 still get the charging icon. Clicked on the battery status and it reads as charging? My phone dies very quickly now as the screen does not power save and the LED's remain solid. I also used a cotton swab to clean the usb and battery contacts.
So I said screw it and flashed a newer Radio. 2.69.21 I got the green led to flash now instead of staying solid. The icon still shows as charging but a little closer i guess. But now battery is listed as unknown and there is no battery status.
Hello,
I'm sure my Hermes is not dead, I'm just having ridicious battery problems.
My battery completely drained out, I saw the screen fade out and kind of "die" as it happened. I then couldn't even charge the Hermes up, so it seems the battery just ran out of juice period. I googled around and it seemed the only way to revive the battery again is doing some complicated wiry thing with alkaline batteries.
But instead of that I just bought a new replacement battery. But it still won't charge! Does this mean my Hermes actually did die? The battery WAS extremely low so I'm certain that it was the battery. The phone can't just die like that.
Thank you so much for your help. N.B. the phone LED won't even give a red light when plugged in without battery in. I hope that's not a bad sign...
Hey there just a guess but I had a simular problem in the past and it seemed to be due to a defective camera part draining power. Only way I was able to fix it was to remove the camera part and then put it back together.
If the red LED doesn't come on when you connect to the power without the battery then your Hermes is dead, good only for parts.... If the LED does light up, connect the battery and see if it turns amber(orangey) that means its charging.
It could be the internal fuse blew. Might be replaceable but could be costly....
Yes, after reading that other people could usually still see a red LED without the battery, I gave up.
Sigh...well at least I got to see my Hermes die...the screen gradually fading away in front of me....sniff.... I will miss it dearly.

But life moves on and hey hey hey I'm the proud owner of a new Blackstone! I just wasn't ready to upgrade yet...I wanted to wait until a capacitive screened successor to the Touch HD came out...sigh
But I suppose deaths of family and friends don't happen when you're ready for them
Goodbye my Hermes

Dear eyupwolf, I have similar problems.
Camera just works some times, but after that it can not be initialised again and drains my battery out. So I don't use it anyway (since 99% times tried it didn't work). If I do, I have to reset Hermes many times to set things up.
Can you describe the procedure how you fixed (removed) that problem?
Thank you,
F
battery wont charge
I got the same problems with the Hermes 200. I tired the 3 AAA battries in serial connection but it didn't help.
I even tried to cool the battery for 30 mins in the freezer (an old trick to squeeze the last little bit from the battery) the phone turned on for about 10 seconds but the os never loaded up. the phone shows red when connected to usb without a battery but led turns off when battery is insterted.
I ordered a battery on ebay, but until it arrives does anyone have any other suggestions?
thanks
Scuter
PS. It had Olipro 2.10 spl and recently installed the amazing golden globe v9 rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=458456
which is amazing.
