Trying to get Fuze to work with Cell One service. - Networking

I think I posted this in the wrong thread earlier, if so I wanted to apologize and get it in the right place.
Anyways, I recently got a Fuze but it turns out I still have Cellular One service. I have a pretty sweet rate plan with unlimited data, texting, and minutes, so I really don't want to change.
I tried going through the setup and entering in cellular1wap as the apn, but for some reason that didn't work. Any ideas?

Nevermind, I got it. First, you use cellular1wap as the APN, then use the built in program to disable the proxy, then go to opera:config in opera and disable the proxy there as well.

I thought Cellular 1 got assumed by AT&T? Hell, I don't know.

It did, but if you were like me and didn't change to an AT&T plan, you still have Cellular One service. I had unlimited minutes, text, and data for around $50 a month, on two separate lines, and didn't feel like giving that up just so I could be "under contract". I used to work for Cell One and AT&T canned all of us, so I understandably wasn't thrilled by the idea of giving them more of my money. They've tried to get me to change and stuff, but each time I talk to a customer service rep, they look at my plan and agree they can't give me anything better than what I already have.

My God, I dodged a bullet.

Alright, so I'm a new Cingular 8525 owner. I bought my phone on Friday, but spent that day (and the next...) just plain customizing it to my liking with apps/games/etc. I even managed to unlock it using POF's easy unlocker.
However, it was not until Sunday that I was able to take it out for a full day (eight hours) of testing. Everything was far better than I had expected (even the battery life was beyond what I had hoped for) and, by the end of the day, I was extremely satisfied.
This is where something strange happened. By this point, I had 20% of battery life yet and I had manually turned off WiFi. Well, I was playing around on the 8525 trying to pass the time when I accidentally clicked on a web link. Immediately, it opened up, and loaded. This shocked me because I had turned my WiFi off.
About thirty or so minutes later, I tested it again (in an area where WiFi access points wasn't around), and again, I managed to load a web page fine. Now I was nervous. I know the 8525 is awesome, but it's not THAT awesome. I suspected that I was being charged for something.
Those of you in the know can probably guessed what happened here. For me, however, I got the idea to check my Cingular account online and, sure enough, I saw the stats that I used their network for 0.7MB of data transfer. Apparently, when the WiFi is off, the 8525 switches to Cingular's network by default. I had not known this because: 1) I thought that I would need to set the 8525's TCP/IP to use Cingular's network and 2) I had assumed that I would need to sign up for that in order to use it.
Either way, my intuition (born of my past experience and knowledge concerning wealthy corporations, especially those with the name 'AT&T') warned me, and I researched this on Google. Doing this, I discovered a mess of people who had the same thing occurred to them, and ended up with phone bills in the hundreds of dollars.
Fortunately, I was one of the lucky ones. So what's the moral of the story? Assumptions are dangerous and trust your senses.
If you didn't upgrade your imei with att you can get the unlimited mediamax for around $20. If you did upgrade your imei then you have to get the PDA version, not nearly as cheap. Then you don't have to worry about the usage
I didn't change my IMEI, but I don't plan to get a data service anyway. I just prefer to use WiFi.

I have just verified it and it's still showing PDA Personal Add-on $30. Where did you get this info?
Thanks
Well I guess that Smart in your handle doesn't mean much.
Oh, Airjer, my apology for not realizing such an obvious fact .

Is it possible to get the $15 medianet plan on my 8525? I don't plan to tether to the laptop.
I found the same thing when I got my contract last year on Orange in the UK, its crazy how it adds up. The easy way around this is to go into your communications settings, and create 'fake' profiles for your connections to GPRS with blank values. That way you can just keep the 'fake' profile active making it impossible for the 3G/GPRS to connect automatically.
When you need to use 3G/GPRS, go back into communications, and use the dropdown box to select your cingular setting. Let me know if you need a more detailed explanation, saved me LOADS.
JPX,
Thank you for the advice. Since my last post, I've been doing much more research and I also found a software called Modaco NoData that basically disables GPRS.
I tested this out and it worked at first, so I basically ignored it from then on. That was my second mistake. At the end of the month, I got a large bill from AT&T and, of course, it was due to the GPRS. Amazingly enough, despite me disabling the GPRS (and it even show as disabled on AT&T's website), the data still collected up anyway.
Fortunately, I was able to get my bill forgiven, and at that point, the representative offered to disable it for me. I honestly should have done that from the start.

G1 Owners on TMO - Check your MyTmo

All G1 owners... Take a moment to go to http://my.t-mobile.com and login to your account.
The G1 Data plan should have been added to your account effective yesterday. It should have wiped any other messaging and data packages from your services, have a look to insure that this is the case.
For many of us, a data or txt plan has been left on and while T-Mo will most graciously take the charge off, you need to check first.
Do this if your data plan disappears while you are changing things.

My 300 message thing was still on. I went to remove it and my G1 data plan went away as well. I might now be able to add the old data plan back now but the 300 message addon for $2.99 isn't available anymore, I'd need to add the $4.99 message addon for messages anyways... may as wel try to get the G1 data plan back on. At least I have wifi for now til I get it straightened out...

Im still on Employee Unlimited Internet Data w/ VPN.
I did get the "your account changes have taken effect" text message this morning, and I still have data service. I'll try to see how long that will last...
Yep I got the txt yesterday, my stuff was still wrong though.
I have to admit though, billing might be off but my service was not interupted. Yay tmo.
I called T-Mobile and they said the G-1 data plan is free until Nov 10th, thats when you start paying for it. Was told this by two customer service folk.
So far the extent of my data service is... I am able to access anything google, but anything beyond, as far as websites, no... and apps that access anything else, no. I do seem to be able to access sites by ssh though. As if everything was firewalled out, but they forgot to firewall port 22.
you will have to pay your service after used it, not before, nothing is free.

yeah it's strange, i looked on my t-mo account and the area designated to signing up for new services no longer shows my t-zones 5.99. I hear they have gotten rid of it. BUT, when i change my phone type(the pic in the upper right corner of my t-mo page) to a moto razor and go back into account/services, the 5.99 t-zones web shows up! So! try switching to a moto razor on your my t-mobile page and see if it is an option in the account/change services links and report back. I know when i last signed up for t-zones i did it from a non pda phone via the handset and the t-zones page. then i pulled the sim card and put it in my wing. once i set the proxy settings the full web was available. right now I'm using the epc.tmobile.com site instead of wap.voicestream.com. i've heard that this works even without a subscription to a data plan but will only be available for a limited time. start/settings/connections/manage existing connections/modem/edit/access point name/epc.tmobile.com..... good luck!
t zones hacks
ok after going round and round with tmobile with my wife's behold i had figured out something the 5.99 tzones does no longer exist it's price has been raised to 9.99. depending on the device that is going to be using the tzones depends on what plans are available, so the trick is to find the oldest phone you have and place your simcard within. then goto tzones and sign up for the lowest data plan. the plans are not tied to the phone once the plan has been purchased but it does look at the device that is being used to access the web. for example my wife has a razr and and a samsung behold the behold is a 3g device while the razr is a standerd gsm device. now according to tmoble the behold will not work on the standard gsm plan. but that is wrong once ya change the proxy to the standard gsm proxy 216.155.165.50:8080 it will work now mind you you will not be able to stream anything but ya can still surf just as well also the 9.99 is limited to 100mb. my plan stemmed from a sony erricson t19 long story short the data plan is independent of the device (with the exception for a blackberry) after it has been activated its tied to the phone number on the sim but to sign up it depends on the device
-rastlin
Actually if you use the epc.tmobile.com access, you do not need to set the proxy settings since there are no port restrictions.
And it may be just an illusion but I feel that it is much faster too.
So if I put my SIM card in say a Razr, change my phone to a Razr and the data plan to the 9.99 data plan, and switch the SIM back in my Wing, I'll have full internet?
But what's the deal with the bandwidth limit? It's ONLY for the 9.99 plan no?
corrrect if memory serves me, the 9.99 is the lowest amount one get for a dataplan but they cap it @ 100mb the 5.99 is grandfathered in now depending on whom you ask in customer support ya may have access to it then it depends on the person you speak to and what level they are at as an employee for all you know they may not have access to that screen so just keep askin...

T-Mobile Web $5.99 is now web2go $9.99
T-Mobile Web $5.99 is now web2go $9.99. Since changing from wap.voicestream.com to epc.tmobile.com the proxy is no longer required with either service. One is simply grandfathered, the other is new service. A word of caution, changes to your plan and services online at My T-Mobile may result in removal of T-Mobile Web without you being aware of it, so before you lock whatever changes you have made in it is imperative you make sure you're not removing T-Mobile Web. I called their web support and tech support and raised holy hell with them about this sneaky little tactic being put in just before you make the final click to submit to the changes online. I do know T-Mobile is unlimited as in exactly that, unlimited. There is a fair usage policy on all of T-Mobile's new data plans including web2go and as many know, data usage is now included on your bill.
so if i get the $10 plan i can do everything with it that i would be able to do with the $25 plan but i am capped at 100MB correct?
edit: i changed my phone to a razor v3 the tmobile support page but the 10 dollar data plan is not there only the hotspot plan is that the same thing because i dont think that it is.
t-zones and data plans
i too had this happen to me and just found out last week when buyin my new Wing. i currently own a Moto RIZR, which is a really nice slide phone. and i had t-zone web for 5.99 and used opera mini. i turned it off for a few months and when i looked it was the new 9.99 plan. i have all the services t-mo offers and 5 lines and very happy its all good i have the 9.99 plan now.
well on the plus side its beats paying the full price that they are asking for.

Confused
OKay, I have a 3g iphone with 2.2 firmware. I added the tmobile plan for 9.99 so that I could hack tzones and get full internet. I have put epc.tmobile.com in my apn but I still can't roam the internet. I can only use tzones like is meant to be used. It says my plan restricts me from going to those sites, that if I want to upgrade click on the link. Ahhh. I am really frustrated on how I can get t-zones hacked! Help me please!

this is a thread for the herald or wing not the iphone, you might wanna post in the right forum
Thanks patspdaphone!!
So I have been trying to get more on my Wing than is probly possible but hey thats the FUN of it! When I did a hard reset and then soft booted before all the T-Mobile crap was installed it saved me like 6MB of space which is a lot for us Wing users! Anyway my point is when I stopped all the T-Mobile stuff from loading, I guess a part of all of that is the T-Zones and I am using the New TouchFLO Manila 2D so it needs to connect to GPRS in order to get the weather and internet Tabs to work. When I read your post that says....
PATSPDAPHONE -- "Actually if you use the epc.tmobile.com access, you do not need to set the proxy settings since there are no port restrictions.

I was very sceptical... BUT THEN I TRIED IT AND IT WORKS GREAT!!! AND FASTER I AGREE!! AND FOR ONLY $5.99!! Plus I dont have all that T-Mobile stuff bothering me like TZones links and Shortcuts everywhere!! Its like I bought a HTC branded PHONE!! Anyway I just wanted to say THANKS A LOT!!!PATSPDAPHONE!!!
2 questions.. the $5.99 or $9.99 plan your talking about, is it unlimited, and second, Does it allow all sites? Because if so, I can find an old tmo phone, switch sims just to get it, but wanted to check 1st.

Well I had the 5.99 T-Zones unlimited plan and never changed so I think im grandfather'd in if you know what I mean. I haven't checked too many websites but the ones I have gone to loaded fine... Do you have any specific sites in mind?
no, just in general.. Because, reading other posts, with the tzones plan, it would be just for tzones. I called them last week, the net for the wing is $24.99 now, for whatever they call it.. web2go because they are upgrading to 3G finally. (Although the wing is not a 3G phone..) But, I can't see paying that for internet on a phone, My DSL isn't that much.

Holy crap, it worked! Hopefully they won't change it for a month or two, but even if it's just for a week, it worked!!!
By the time I find things on message boards, it's all been long changed, outdated.
PS Ok, I might have gotten a little carried away I can get to my Yahoo e-mail by bringing up Internet Explorer, but nothing else other than T-zones. Oh well, I have a lot to learn, but I'm trying.
Lol, I've had the phone for 6 months, and didn't know I could get yahoo email of IE without a data plan. The Push feature takes too long, and after trying 5 or 10 sites to no avail, I just assumed I coulen't get to Yahoo mail either. I go via Yahoo fromt page, and for some reason it lets me connect there, then to mail.
If you have web2go, you can NOT use epc, you have to use wap.
On my Wing, under Connections:
Name it something
Modem type is Cellular Line GPRS
Access point name is wap.voicestream.com
User, pass, domain is all blank
Remove any type of proxy settings.
If you have t-zones $5.99, you CAN use epc.tmobile.com.
Hope that helps.

Proxy internet for HD2 on T-mobile?

My sister really needs a new phone and is with T-mob USA. I was telling her to get the HD2 when it comes out, and she really likes the phone but she doesn't want to pay for the added internet plan. When I had my Shadow (1st gen) I was able to use the t-mobile lower internet plan (t-zones?) and using proxy server info I was able to use the internet almost 100% normal. There were only a few apps that were odd.
What are the chances that since this is still a WinMo phone it will have that ability? Is this something that can be figured out before the phone comes out? Also, if it did work, would it access 3g data?
Thanks for any help/info.
Nick
When the HD2 launches it will have a required data pack just like all other windows, blackberry's and android devices currently do. If a discount is recieved on the device then the data pack (minimum $25/month) is required, paying full retail price is the only way not to have it. T-zones is no longer offered by itself for $5.99/month unless your plan is a grandfathered plan that supports it but would only be able to be used if the phone was purchased at retail.

i use tmobile in uk if the proxy box is ticked my mail dosent load.
T-Mobile USA now uses the device IMEI for data plans
The proxy trick does not work anymore on Tmobile USA, they now use the phone's IMEI number to verify that the phone is on the correct data package. It works for about 24 hours now then when you try and access the internet you are sent to a screen to add the correct data package.
Proxy internet for HD2 on T-Mobile
I have T-mobile with the $5.99 T-Zones. I used it on the DASH and am now using it on a Touch VIVA. If I buy the HD2 from T-Mobile with no contract are they still going to force me to get a data plan or will my T-Zones stop working. I want to keep my T-Zones and may have to get an ulocked phone.

I'm currently with AT&T and about to switch to T-mobile when the HD2 comes out. When I spoke to the T-mobile rep., (trying to get him to set me up on the cheap data plans instead) He told me T-mobile can tell what phone you are using and know if it is on the correct plan. He also stated that if the phone is unlocked then you can trick their systems into letting you keep your old plan. Now again, I dont know if this is true or not, I am about to switch...hopefully this month, I'll find out then.
With AT&T, I have an old data plan (unlimited internet, 1500 text, 200 MMS) and I pay $19.95/month. they have never made me change my data plan and I am using the Tilt2. If you go through the priemer business website to upgrade your phone, they dont give you the $50 discount and you get to keep your data plan unchanged....all other channels force the upgrade with an updated data plan. Again, the only way around that is to buy your phone from someone else, unlocked, or have warranty dept. swap out your phone for a different model. My nephew has the $10 data plan and is now using the Tilt2 on it via warranty swapping out his phone for a different model (the Tilt2).
I know on the AT&T service you do get the 3g speeds, so I assume it will be the same for T-Mobile (but then again assuming may not be the best way to go). Hope that helped

from what I was told, everything should work correctly and at the correct speed, as long as the phone is unlocked. The cell phone service providers don't seem to really offer different speeds at different rate plans like the cable internet companies do.
I had not seen your message from earlier ... we posted at the exact same time. Thanks though for your input. I will let her know. It seems like it is worth a try. Worst case scenario, she has a great phone but she has to use Wifi to check her mail and such.

How can I make a mytouch3G to work with T-Mobile's BlackBerry data plan?

I know that a non-T-Mobile branded HTC Magic will work with the T-Mobile BlackBerry Plan; however, a T-Mobile branded can only work with T-Mobile's google plan.
How can I make the T-Mobile branded myTouch3G to work with T-Mobile Blackberry plan?
I tried to unlocked and rooted the myTouch3G, but still doesn't work with t-mobile blackberry plan. (Every time i start browsing, it will direct me to the data plan upgrade page.)
Can I fresh the Kernel or something to make it work?
Thanks
you know your posting this in the wrong section right?? try the q&a section next time... and as far as i know i dont think its possible.... have you tried flashing a non tmobile rom?? you may want to go check out the g1/dream forum..
sorry about the wrong section posting...
I tried on a non-Tmobile ROM, but still not working... but I just could not find the element that locks up on the T-Mobile branded phones.
Can't be done. T-Mobile knows your imei and sees it everytime you connect to the internet. That is why you get routed to the upgrade page. Short of changing your imei (which is illegal), you'll need to get the google plan.
Ok do this.
Open your blackberry take out the mother board and everythign screena dn all..
Then JAM that **** right into your myrtouch 3G and use about 10-20 slices of tape to hold everything together.
then get another strip of tape and put the battery in and tape it so it holds the everything in place.
Now trn on your blacktouch2G custom and it should work without a problem...
Although its useless you can just say swap your grandfather plan to your mytouch3g as the same price and you will be ok.

Hysterical.
Blackberry plan
To give you an idea of how tmo's data plans work I'll break it down as I used to work for them. The blackberry plan adds two apn's to your profile on the switch. epc.tmobile.com and tmo.blackberry.net. This also adds a filter on the back end that will only allow a blackberry device to access the internet with this plan. There are two other plans that you can have on your account. Total internet and the android plan. Both of these add identical apn's to your profile on the switch. epc.tmobile.com, internet2.voicestream.com, and wap.voicestream.com. Once again, there will be a filter on the back end. If you try to use an android device with the total internet plan you will be able to browse the internet but not through any of the applications and the market will be out of your reach. The only way that you will get full functionality out of that lovely little phone is to add the appropriate android plan... sorry!
I may be in the minority, but I haven't had any problems with that. I just bought a MyTouch 3G off of craigslist and I currently own a BB 9700 with BIS through T-Mobile. When I bought the phone I popped in my SIM card, registered the phone with my Gmail account, and had no problems browsing the web and utilizing the Android Market. It's been about 3 days since I've been using the Mytouch and I have yet to have had to contact T-Mobile to change my plan.

you're in the minority. my BIS data plan lasted 3 minutes (enough to get through activation) on the mytouch before i got routed to the upgrade page. stuff still works on wifi though.
just call and change your plan. costs the same unless you've got a grandfathered plan.
Interesting. I switched off the MT3G for the Bold 9700 on the day it came out. Lately I've had an itch to use Android, which I can't due to the plan. Oddly enough, however, when I put my SIM into my TouchPro2 (running Windows Mobile 6.5, of course) I get full internet as if I had the Total Internet package on there. I find that interesting, since there's supposed to be a filter. But I used my TouchPro for 3 days with no issue. I even used WMWifiTether to share the internet off to my iPod touch for Pandora/streaming podcasts. But soon as I put it into my MT3G, I can't get the activation done. I don't even get a short grace period, it's almost instant lock-out. But I can put it back in the TouchPro2 and there's no problem. And back into the BlackBerry and all my emails come in, my messages from BBM (which is the main reason I don't want to switch plans. As soon as u switch plans, your BB account is suspended, so emails to your @tmo.blackberry.net account bounce back, and BBM won't receive any messages, as well as PIN messages just hang in limbo, AFAIK).
SO, what's the deal here, is there an APN setting somewhere, or is it truly IMEI filtering? Would it be possible to plug the MT3G IMEI into the BIS management interface? I would guess not, since the first so many numbers of the IMEI determine the type of device, and they could limit it only to BlackBerry devices.

there's no way around it for the mytouch. my BIS plan worked on the iphone, but that's a phone they don't have control over. pretty sure once your mytouch registers with it's imei# on the network that tmobile detects it's on the "wrong plan" and gives you the upgrade message. not sure why though, since they are the same price. same thing happens w/ iphone on blackberry plan w/ at&t, except at&t doesn't completely block data like t-mobile does.
not really BIS's fault. would make no sense to register the imei on BIS. it's t-mobiles issue. they want everyone using a mytouch on a mytouch plan. i'm guessing because they get more money per subscription from google than they do with BB.
TP2 + BB data plan = no MMS??

I've had the T-Mo $19.99/month BB BIS add-on for a long time but switched phones to the Touch Pro 2. I also get good internet speed - phone & SMS work well, too. Have you been able to send or receive MMS on the TP2 with your BB plan? I have not and was told by T-Mo (who offered to sell me a more expensive plan) that my TP2 sends MMS via the data plan and the two are incompatible. Bugs me that my kids' cheap camera phones send/receive MMS just fine without a data plan.

I'm closing this thread because it was posted in the wrong section.
I'll move it though but it should have been in the General, G1 Q&A or even Android Software and Hacking General but in this case I'll move it to General.
