Sprint SERO users and phone as modem

I have not read or found anything on this before. So I thought that I would share what I just found. in the support section under sprint power vision it give a tutorial on to use your phone with the phone as modem and it make no mention of a charge for that service. So I asked a online chat rep. they said that it was included with power vision. So I said thanks disconnected started a new session asked again they said that it is not included. So I asked for a number to call they gave me a number for sprint employees as I have the SERO program, and apparently that is considered an employee account.
I called and asked them the same question to the live phone support person. She took a look at a few things and said yeah on the SERO program it is included but not on the power vision. So I asked her If there was anything I needed to do. She said nope I will add it onto your account. I once again verified that it was no charge she said that the SERO plans have it as a option for free but it is not by default turned on.
The number I called is 1-888-503-3078. It was given to me by the send online support person.
I am going to sparingly try it for a few days and then check it out the billing to be sure. I will let all you SERO users know for sure.

Hey i just called and asked the rep the same questions and what she told me was that sero is not covered under the phone as modem deal. She said it would cost 40 dollars a month for it so i decided that it didn't work for me. On the other hand i own the mogul and i asked her if i was unhappy with the performance of my phone because of it having crappy firmware update etc... she said i can call insurance and have them replace my phone with one of my choice for a 50 dollar deductable.

you should try these guys.
you pay a small fee one time till the exp of the license which should last a few years if i remember. just read the details of it. i have used it on sprint network with my treo 650. it works like a charm. you dont need to call sprint to ok this. just as long as you have a data plan on your cell phone. preferably the unlimited one as you will be on there for a while.

personally, i could never get pdanet to work for me so i used usbmodem. after a while, i got lazy and just started using internet connection sharing and bluetooth.
oh yea, no charges for any data whatsoever

I just use Internet Sharing and bluetooth, I'm on the SERO plan, and it works *fantastically*. I get 60Kbps downloads w/out problems and have run VOIP over it.

I couldn't get ICS over bluetooth working correctly, it always drops the connection and shuts down bluetooth on the phone after about a minute, even with the latest ROM. WMWifirouter works great though, I'm getting around megabit/second in places with good coverage.

Removing means Deleting that entry from the registry, (it doesn't delete rilphone.dll just the shortcut to it when you open I.S.)
Once done tethering is simple using the included Internet Sharing....
USB should only be plugged into PC at this point...
1. Open Internet Sharing and hit connect (it opens a data connection to Sprint)
2. Plug usb into phone, wait a minute for PC to set up and that's it.
Always hit "disconnect" in I.S. BEFORE removing USB, always.

I deleted the regkey and connected via Internet Sharing without issue.
Once you get that working, check out WMWifiRouter. Turn your PPC into a wireless modem/router.

That reg key removal worked just fine for me. Did a small test with it and seems to work just fine. Now the wait until next billing cycle!

You should really try WMWifiRouter. The Sprint EVDO network is capable of much more than 60KB/s, but thats about the limit that you can achieve with bluetooth. WiFi on the other hand has much greater bandwidth and won't be a bottleneck like bluetooth. I don't use it much, but I can get around 130KB/s down using WMWifiRouter.

I was wondering... If you have unlimited data plan and setup your phone to act as a modem via the USB connection how can they stop you from using your phone as a modem? Shouldnt we get the full bandwith of Sprints network just doing it that way?

im using that WMWifiRouter thingy, and at first I was doing PAM conneciton (didn't realized it till I knew), then i started getting remote disconnected error. I assume Sprint stopped it on their end. Now I'm using PCS Vision. I really doubt I'm gunna get charged for tethering with the PCS Vision connection, I didnt even do any registry mod/delete.
My question is... Will I get charged for those time I was PAMing? I just wanted to seperate my usage charges to know if I'm getting charged for either both PCS Vision connection and PAM, or just PAM.
I get download speeds of 95 to 150kbps using rapidshare, btw

Sure, if your WM hardware uses BT1.2. If it uses BT2.0, then no
BT2.0 is gonna give you 3mbit/sec on the link, vs .721mb/sec
The 3mbit should be faster then any EVDO network you can find
Power drain should be significantly lower on the phone as well.

As many have found out to their disappointment, the Connection Wizard built into most ROMs installs the open-but-expensive Softbank connection. The Connection Wizard will try to set up the 64k digital data plan that charges per 30 seconds instead of per packet and the APN for this account is [email protected] or [email protected] So if you see [email protected] in your data settings, DELETE THOSE SETTINGS! This [email protected] AP is not compatible with the flat rate plans and is charged differently (read: heavily). Some have ended up with bills over 50,000 Yen.
Delete whatever connection the Connection Wizard makes for you before installing this cab.

Last April Softbank changed their password because it was published too widely. This created big problems for many people who were using the old password. To avoid this, I and others with the password have been trying to distribute it by non-public means (email, private messages, writing it on bathroom walls, etc).
Recently, some people who don't know any better have been publishing this information publicly, risking Softbank changing the password yet again, screwing us all. But don't get angry and send them flames . They can't help being that way.
Q: Can I use this connection with MMSLite?
A: Apparently you can, but the MMSLite connection information has been released widely and is available on this site. Do a search.
Q: Why is Softbank so secretive? And why did Softbank change the password? And if the MMSLite connection information has been public for so long, why don't they change that too?
A: Hey now, one question at a time.
The following is speculation, but here goes: I doubt Softbank has any automatic controls on the amount or type of data going through its mobile servers. They are probably worried that if this information gets out that people with SIM accepting notebooks / 3G modem cards can just use this information to get (relatively) cheap, limitless mobile broadband.
The first password change was done by a ROM update to the X01HT (Hermes). At the time, there were few enough X01HTs out there that they could afford to send every customer a 256mb microsd card with the ROM update on it. This ROM upgrade also changed the radio ROM to one which made it much more difficult to unlock the Hermes. Before this, lots of X01HTs were being bought subsidized from Softbank, unlocked, then sold on Ebay for a profit (and a subsequent loss for Softbank). Now that Softbank has more WM-based phones, and has stopped subsidizing handsets so drastically, a four-model, system-wide ROM update looks less and less likely. But it could happen.
The Softbank MMS connection is used system-wide by most of Softbank's phones, both smartphones and dumbphones. Any change to this protocol would be a huge headache for Softbank and is extremely unlikely.
Q: So, if I can get the password somehow I can use my Softbank SIM to surf my laptop and only pay the flatrate fee?
A: Probably. If you have a 3G modem that accepts WSIM cards.

I can't speak from experience, but I am 99.9% sure this password will work with the new rate. A guy using a stock X02HT on this thread reported that he was okay after switching. And I doubt he took his X02HT into the shop for them to change the AP.
I would switch and give it a try, but I have actually never used more than a couple thousand yen worth of data a month. I get most of my regular sites' feeds cached in using SPB Insight.

I took the dive myself and setup the new data plan, was jsut a quick visit to the local softbank, and all still works fine technically. Just waiting on the revised bill to see if it actually took effect

Sorry for the delayed response. My bill was all in order , so you should be safe upgrading to the new data plan from the old 10,000 yen per month plan. But you never know they could change things

I can confirm the connection.cab works with my diamond. I have flashed the x04ht rom found elsewhere on this board.
My billing cycle is as follows:
Usage is charged up to the 24th or so and then bill is released on the 7th of the following month.
I check my usage just now: パケット通信料 ~19,000円
It says that discounts have not yet been applied but after working this out to be something like 250,000 packets, I am a little worried. This is assuming the rate is 0.08 Yen per packet. I figure I have used about the same data as with my actual softbank device (the odd email check [mobile.gmail.com] and the odd browsing [less than 10 minutes of yahoo.co.jp etc]). I really don't use it much at all. I work usually 12 hours a day and I am too beat to mess with my diamond.
My previous months usage (including the same browsing habits and the mobile gmail) only ever peaked at like 60000 packets. Mind you I can only look at past bills in their post-discount-applied state.
I am going to call SB tomorrow and ask them what's up.

The packet count shouldn't change depending on discounts. Only the money charged should change.
Make sure you don't have the m2D weather auto-updating or anything automatic like that running.

Yeah I killed that. I am just waiting for my final bill to be ready in a few days. We tried calling SB and they seemed to not know f'all. One lady even said, and I quote:
"softbank sims are not sim free so if you put it into another non-softbank device it will no longer function and you will have to get another one"
I got off the line with her as soon as I could.

I just got the above 30,000 Yen warning message from SB.
But I was for a week roaming in Europe, might be related to this.

Roaming in Europe would do it alright. My coworker just got his 70,000 yen roaming fee for data usage.
My last few bills have been fine. Packet use in the range of 20,000 yen fully discounted and the new flat rate 5700 yen charge applied. I dont think there will be a problem. I was using the 10,000 yen flat rate package for 2 years prior to this on non softbank phones and it only went above when roaming.

So I got my bill and with the open connection I was charged as follows (approx, because I am too lazy at the moment to get the exact info, but it goes like this):
with the open connection, X-series phones will be charged at a max of 10700en or something like this.
to get the 4400 en one, you have to be within the above "walled garden" (basically a bull**** plan)
to get the 5900en one, you have to be using an iphone.
I am going to try and set my diamond up with the iphone settings.
Also, I find it bull**** that I am being charged as a X04HT user when I don't even have an x04ht.

Oh, roaming fees aren't charged by softbank initially. The provider your bud was roaming on has each kB or packet charged to softbank. Softbank then in turn charges your bud.

Nah. X-series users can freely switch to the 5900 plan using this connection.

Trying to get Fuze to work with Cell One service.

I think I posted this in the wrong thread earlier, if so I wanted to apologize and get it in the right place.
Anyways, I recently got a Fuze but it turns out I still have Cellular One service. I have a pretty sweet rate plan with unlimited data, texting, and minutes, so I really don't want to change.
I tried going through the setup and entering in cellular1wap as the apn, but for some reason that didn't work. Any ideas?

Nevermind, I got it. First, you use cellular1wap as the APN, then use the built in program to disable the proxy, then go to opera:config in opera and disable the proxy there as well.

I thought Cellular 1 got assumed by AT&T? Hell, I don't know.

It did, but if you were like me and didn't change to an AT&T plan, you still have Cellular One service. I had unlimited minutes, text, and data for around $50 a month, on two separate lines, and didn't feel like giving that up just so I could be "under contract". I used to work for Cell One and AT&T canned all of us, so I understandably wasn't thrilled by the idea of giving them more of my money. They've tried to get me to change and stuff, but each time I talk to a customer service rep, they look at my plan and agree they can't give me anything better than what I already have.

Auto-connect to wireless network possible?

Hi all
I have this beloved device and after installing duttys rom it becomes so much better. however the people at orange wanna charge me a fortune for data so i told them to stick it.
trouble is i still wanna use email / weather functions. is there any program i can install or setting i can use to get these programs to only connect to my local wireless network instead of constantly trying orange and then coming up with a failure.
i know i could leave the wireless on but this would chew up my battery pretty quickly.
any ideas

Are you using Orange in the UK? Reason I ask is that Orange appear to have a LOT of misleading price information on data access at the moment...
I decided that if I wanted get the best out of this device and use google maps, e-mail etc. on the move, then I was going to have to invest in a dataplan. I also didn't want the hassle of being tied to an off peak package.
When I looked up the costs of adding a bundle on my Orange account page, they wanted £8/month for 30MB of data. This sounded quite a lot (and £41.13/month for 80MB!), so I decided to cross check this against their pdf price guide document. Here it said that they wanted £7.50/month for 250MB of data... getting better, but left me a little confused!
I eventually decided that I would contact them as I couldn't get the deal I wanted online. Imagine my surprise when the guy on the other end said that he could set it up for £5/month for 500MB anytime access... Suffice to say I went for this yesterday and after a minor few hiccups getting the service running, I started using this today...
So far, so good - just hope the bill works out right!

£7.50 for 250MB is Orange UK's older pricing.
It's their standard data bundle
This £5 for 500MB deal is new, having come in at the same time that they started offering 500MB/month as an integral part of the Panther 45 packages.
It does seem to depend on who you speak to as to whether you get offered the old bundle or the new one. I've also heard it said that the 500MB bundle is only being offered to new customers but I'm not sure how true that is.
Also, it might be a bit like T-Mobile, in that if you take W'n'W for £7.50/month, it's a bolt-on that can be added and removed as and when you like, whereas if you take it for £5/month, it's as an integral part of the tariff.
So it might be worth checking with them about that as well.
@theOP: if you search for an app called 'nodata', it allows you to disable all cellular data-connections.
But you should be able to do exactly the same thing by going into the comms manager on the phone and disabling the 'data connection' option (though you have to do it via the separate app and not using !SINGH!'s 15 tabs, since it doesn't have all the options that way).

For the record I am an existing customer, although I have recently renewed my contract (hence the Touch HD upgrade).
While I was using my Touch HD on wireless networks I used to disable the Orange data connections by selecting Start->Settings->Connections Tab->Connections->Advanced Tab->Select Networks and then select 'My Work Network' from the automatic connection default. This seemed to work most of the time although I noticed that occasionally it would exchange data via GPRS...

Canadian Focus Buyers beware!!!

I have a really good plan (grandfathered unlimited data, enough said?), thus i'm sticking with bell. I originally got the LG quantum when it came out, however since October i had my eyes set on the Focus.
Other then being heavy and small screen, i had no issue with the quantum. I ordered the Samsung Focus from rogers site.Once i got it, i stuck in my bell SIM and got a screen asking for a code. Took the phone to a local independent cell phone store in Downtown london, ont. the guy took my IMEI and gave me back the phone, a few hours later he e-mailed me the a code. Once entered, the phone went to start screen, everything seemed good.
Could text, and make calls. NO data, NO MMS!!
I found that adding the bells APN (pda.bell.ca), sort of gets data working.
However, It feels as if i would I have to make multiple attempts to force the phone to connect via HSPA+ network (i.e. get 3G+ icon to appear). If on 3G not data works!
and even there it doesn't stay connected. (disconnect between surfing sites, making transactions is a pain) On top of this phone sometimes, looses it's ability to make call or send texts, even with full bars, until soft reset (i.e. power down and up).( only happened once, after i swapped SIM card, hasn't re-occured since hard reset)
Ultimately , the issue is the network profile has been manual programed in the phone to use ROGERS addresses for DATA and MMS. Thus far i can't find a way and the community hasn't helped figuring out how to change the profile, by either manually changing it or changing to a Bell preset.
I can't believe that the phone does not get data in 3G mode. I have a theory, either because the bell network is new it doesn't support 3g data mode, which i doubt as my Quantum seemed fine, or bell doesn't have my IMEI which is how they provided data access on old network. I'm going to a bell store today and giving them my phones IMEI i'm hoping this might provide a break through. (will update afterword)
Samsung offers a network profile app via marketplace, however, once launched it provide the following msg "The application can't be launched with your mobile operator".
I will be contacting Samsung tech support this afternoon, hopefully they'll help with a solution. Although i suspect they say some BS about exclusive to roger, we can't help.
Ultimately, i've played with all WP7 device available in canada. The Samsung focus is the one i enjoy they most. My only let downs are the 16 bit screen which doesn't show gradients, and the OS lacking of essential features (hidden Wi-Fi access, multiple calendars, etc.). When data works i am absolutely in love. hopefully this issue can be fix soon.
UPDATE:
Having provided bell with the IMEI (rep at stored scanned it in from behind battery), nothing has changed still having issues.
I still think it's Network Profile, however in post #3 someone mentions an alternative APN, going to investigate and see what the LG quantum uses then might try.

I wonder if this is due to the Bell network, or if it's due to the Focus coming from Rogers?
I have an AT&T ordered, and it should be here within the week. Let's hope I don't have the same problems as you :S

There have been some cases reported with new phones on HSPA not being able to connect on pda.bell.ca and that APN setting having to be changed to inet.bell.ca.
Note, however, that under the inet.bell.ca setting, you will incur charges, unless you have a true data plan (150MB/500MB/1-6GB) and not the Unlimited Mobile Browser, which many have historically (and wrongly) referred to as "unlimited data". It's just that pda.bell.ca has never charged people correctly, even now. Expect that free puppy to go the way of the dinosaur, though.

Neither the UMB, nor the email-internet 30 (often referred to as UNPDA 30, or simply UNPDA), nor the email-IM 15 are true data plans. People everywhere have been calling their UNPDA and UMB plans as unlimited data, only because Bell has not been properly metering and charging through pda.bell.ca portal. The metering of the sessions through pda.bell is actually capped at some ridiculously small amount, whereby you can essentially use "data" well beyond that point and presumably with no limit and the meter still shows stuck at that silly low figure (that figure being in kilobytes and not even reaching megabytes).
It's all good and well to take advantage of this wonky metering. I had the UMB for three years and loved it. "Unlimited data" for 7 bucks! Who would say NO to that? The problem arises when metering actually does function properly. If and when they do correct it, they *can* charge you retroactively for at least that one month of usage not in accordance to your initially agreed to contract. When you first signed up, you agreed to use the UNPDA for emails and internet browsing (and sometimes IM); not for downloading movies, listening to radio and podcasts or tethering to your laptop.
Rather than play hookie with the likes of Bell and go to bed every night praying that today was not the day they fixed the metering, because you just watched "How to Train a Dragon" on your phone, I would suggest to renegotiate a true data plan. This way, you can browse, stream, listen and tether all you want - within reasonable limits.
I switched from the $7 UMB to the 6GB data with tethering plan and I don't lose any sleep. Even with tethering and watching a couple of movies a month, I don't come close to the limit. Oh, and I actually pay about $5 more than I did before for this peace of mind. Some people have even negotiated plans lower than mine.

I unlocked my Rogers Focus and using it on Telus no problem.
Do you have a friend with a Telus sim?
Maybe the phone is faulty.

1) How did you unlock you device
2) does network profile app give you error msg when try to launch it?
3) can you MMS?
4) when the phone is in 3G can you use data
5) can you access the root menu using #634# -> *#197328640# ?

You may want to change the title of the trhead as it is a bit alarmist.
1. I unlocked it from a code supplied from a seller on Ebay.
Great service but the listing is gone now for some reason.

2. I did install it and yes it gave me an error message so I just uninstalled it.
3. I haven't tried yet
4. Oh ya...big time 3G+ icon at times.
5. I don't want to muck with the root menus until other guinea pigs want to.
I am enjoying the phone too much to mess it up.
I'll let you know if the MMS works after I try it.
You did set up the APN correctly right?
Try another sim??
