Hi,
I have a big problem with my Tytn (sorry if this is already been posted). Quite often the phone freezes, making it impossible to turn on again. The only thing that works is a soft-reset. What is worse, is that when the phone is in this state, although the green light is regularly flashing, it is unable to get phone calls even if the caller gets the normal ringing signal. No trace is left of the call, neither in calls list! This is a really serious issue: please, let me know if you have an idea of how to solve the problem.
Thanks!
I am having the same issue. I haven't been able to isolate it. I was havign to0 restart 1-2 times a day. Same systems press the power button nothing. Lights blinking everything looks ok. but nothing on the screen. and i miss calls. really pain in the ass. I loaded mobile secretary and it hasn;t locked in a day or two which is odd.
I also sometimes have to rpess the power button two times for it to wake
me too
It's happening to me too. I will lose service and the phone doesn't go out and poll automatically when service should be good. It may show 1, 2, 3 bars then when I try to make a call it hangs, and then get an x and a Y!, then searches for service. I have the GSM only hack installed and the activesync workaround and it still does this. It is not useable as a phone.

With all due respect, there is no solution where the link leads to.
I am having the GSM problem also. Just from time to time I am noticing an exclamation mark near the 'antennae' icon in the top bar. When I tap it, I read 'Service unavailable' in the balloon. From that point I may either soft-reset, or switch GSM flight mode on and off, which brings the PIN code keyboard and the phone works again.
I really don't think it is related to power saving, as it happened a few times in the car with TyTN on external power.

I think warmkiwi's link may be relevant to jimwormold's original post, which may not be related to your and angled1's problem of failing to poll correctly after dropping it's signal.
Mike
yes, it was. sorry, i should have quoted the original author (jimwormold)
well, sorry for being so picky on you :|
Now when we have defragmented the conversation I wonder if the GSM problem is reported more widely? and what is supposed to do in order to isolate the problem and fix it...?

Sorry to do a "me too" posting, but I experience the exact same symptoms. There is no obvious pattern to when this happens, but it is a major problem, as there is no way (other than trying to switch it on) to distinguish whether the phone is working or not at any given moment.
I am running the latest (South African) ROM on my Vario II.

Given this thread now appears to have two distinct issues running together I better be clear that I am referring to the lock-up/freezing issue not the dropped GSM signal issue!!
To be honest there are quite a few possible causes for the freezing issue(s). I would suggest searches and the wiki on such things as (and you may or may not have tried some already):
1. Use of a Task Manager to properly shut running programmes otherwise they contiue to run in the background
2. Proper shutting down of Active Sync in addition to any task manager you may have, as it can re-start itself automatically (particularly overnight. Look for the "Fake Server Trick")
3. Always shut down Wifi when not in use (vital particularly overnight but also good practice to avoid lock ups)
4 For overnight and possibly other quiet times you can consider having your device automatically perform a soft reset to clear any running programmes that may block alarms/receipt of mail etc. Look for such things as xbar or SK schema

Yes indeed, although I think that both: a Phone App problem, and a GSM signal problem, are indeed the same, maybe only differently percepted and described by users affected.
I need ActiveSync to be running in order for DirectPush to work. If it conflicts with the phone, it makes the device unusable concerning push email functionality.

I agree they may be cause and effect for some folks. Although I don't believe we can say that all the freezing and lock-ups are due to dropped GSM signal and freezing when failing to re-establish it. The items I list either taken together or individually have been found by others to work in some cases.
I appreciate that if you require Active Sync running then this is not a solution for you. I think the issue of crashing on loss of signal requires more analysis and I'm not aware of much discussion of it - though I could be wrong!!

I was fiddling with the phone yesterday and today, and I have a hypothesis that my problem is related to PIN entry screen that won't pop up but is silently awaiting a PIN underneath.
I was trying to ucheck the "Require PIN when phone is used" box in Settings but with no luck, my PIN is then refused with "Unknown SIM Error" message. Maybe it wants a PUK but I don't have it on hand to try.
My plan now is to:
- uninstall all Phone-related applications (PhonePlus, Dark_Blue Buttons, EZDial),
- request PUK from my office and try to uncheck the box,
- try prepaid SIM card which has no PIN
To observe symptoms I need two-three days, so I will rather not be posting until solid data is collected.
ps Mike, it is a pleasure to be on a board with people like you.

I'm on day 2 of my replacement phone from Cingular and the problem with losing gsm signal is non existent. The problem was hardware and fixed by calling and getting a warranty replacement phone. I'll let you know if the problem returns. Oh, and I have not been using the gsm only hack. I'm trying to see if the phone will work as designed first.

Good news - hope it continues to work well.

I am reporting from the test field that my problem persists, despite uninstalling all phone-related extenders.
I have noticed that freezing is paired with disabling Bluetooth. So after switching the phone off (flight mode on) and back on (flight mode off), I also have to turn on Bluetooth.
EDIT: I was grounded for last few days at home and freezing problem was not occuring. I am now thinking that it may be related to switching band between GPRS and UMTS. My next step will be disabling UMTS for good. It saves a whole lotta battery, by the way. I am for the third day mostly on standby, with a few calls made, and I am still on 70%! (no 3G in the area)
I have contacted my vendor and asked about replacement policy, they are "checking this with the importer". It's a beauty of living in not-so-western country. Poland is the name.

I'm having exactly the same problem, very annoying because the staus LEDs keep blinking as normal. I too think the problem is UMST-GPRS switching related, as I also have problems when phoning while I drive with my car from a UMTS enabled into a GPRS only zone. The voice call is interupted and I get a loud noise, sounding like a scrambled voice, on both sides of the connection. At home my UMTS signal is very weak, so I think it happens when I move around the house to a place where the TyTN switches to GPRS.
I've put my TyTN to "GSM network" only now to see if this helps, but I use UMTS frequently so this is no long term solution for me.

Hi,
mine was siffering of freezing issue, I sent a mail to HTC support, they don't know about it but the guy said me that I must to hard reset my device. Then no more freezes, I will keep testing it.
Regards,
Taguapire.
BTW: I changed my old and almost destroyed SIM card by a new one.
Is anyone successfully using HTCSense.com portal ?
The day I got my Desire HD I was impressively able to make my phone ring remotely and eventually upload my contacts.
However, none of it seems to work now:
I can't remotely call the phone
It fails to load contacts
Does not correctly report my location (or sometimes incorrectly states Phone Finder not enabled)
Lock phone does not work
Have had problems deleting my account to start all over again.
It won't send text messages
I emailed HTC and they suggest a hard reset (unhelpful) but then subsequently asked for my IMEI / SN to investigate.
Now I am thinking it's just teething problems unless you peeps can confirm you have it all working fine ??
ALSO,
can anyone tell me which phone number I am supposed to enter when setting up HTC HUB on the device. It fills the field in for you with a landline number (less the initial 0) do I enter my FULL home number (as it suggests entering area code) or do I enter my mobile number? with or without the +44 country code... I can't find this info out anywhere!
I only got my DHD yesterday but I can tell u I have exactly the same problem, except I ve not even had the exprience of it functioning at all.
the people page doesnt update successfully
in the dashboard there is a error message:" “Phone finder" is currently disabled. For security reasons, go to your phone to enable this feature in Settings >> Location >> Phone finder." despite the setting is definitely as it should be on the phone itself. so I cant remoted lock the phone.
The one thing seems functioning is i can make my phone ring from the website.
I was also wondering the same thing regarding the phone number, I just used my full UK mobile number to add it from phone. (i.e. is 0abcdefghil) and it does show up in htcsense.com as +44abcdefghil. However, like mentioned above, nothing seems work other than able to make my phone ring at full volume.
It seems there is some major issue with htcsense.com at the moment. Do anyone know what's going on here?
I will certainly update thread when HTC get back to me with any useful answer.
yeah htcsense.com is REAALLLY buggy at the minute. I just logged in 2 minutes ago and it was showing all my 178 contacts, tried to check the Phone finder / ring and it didn't work. Then went back to contacts and it just failed lol.
it is supposed to be their ground breaking feature lol. I guess the phone is not THAT widely available yet so they still have time to tweak the details. Would love to try out some of the function they demonstrated.
I m sticking to wavesecure for the security features for the time being.
amm i am the only one that get error 404 form the first min? i cant verify my email, all the time its same 404 error :\
Same problem here! It is really buggy! I can't even send files and the locking part doesn't work @ all!
Set up on my phone & computer. But having a lot of issues.
1/ On my computer I try to locate my phone but it says phone finder is disabled on my phone when I clearly enabled it.
2/ It doesn't download people onto computer
3/ Got loads of messages but computer says phone has no messages
4/ Only thing I can get it to do is make my phone ring.
Cheers
Pretty much same problem here - doesn't look like this was ready for market by a long way
Dear ****,
Thank you for contacting HTC.
Its possible you dont have the full software in order to use all of HTC sense's functions. we do recommend backing up your information first however it should not wipe any of your personalisations or applications.
You can now download the latest software update for new features and improved performance. It won’t delete any of your content and we’d recommend using a Wi-Fi connection as this is a large update. If not, standard data connection charges may apply. Any questions? Contact us via www.htc.com. After installing the update, you can confirm a successful update by confirming the Software number (From the Home Screen go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Software Information> Software number).
If this continues not to work then possibly a hard reset will work in order to reset the phone to factory setting and start from the beginning and connect it all back up however this WILL wipe all you personal information so we strongly advice bcking up your information before following the below instructions;
Turn off your phone,
1. With the phone turned off, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then briefly press the POWER button.
2. Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the VOLUME DOWN button..
3. Press VOLUME DOWN to select CLEAR STORAGE, and then press POWER.
4. Press VOLUME UP to start the factory reset.
To send a reply to this message or let me know I have successfully answered your question log in to our ContactUs site using your email address and your ticket number ******.

Similar reply to what I got from HTC initially, so pretty much useless! They did take my IMEI and serial number to see what could be done in the meantime.
I downloaded the latest software OTA (version 1.32.405.3) which made no difference to anything.
I refuse to do a hard reset after spending a very long time customising my phone. It will probably make zero difference anyway.
** If anyone has hard rest their phone and got it to work however, let us know. If we really want this much hyped feature then at least we know what to do **

Is yours all working now?
Mine has decided to tell me that it cannot connect to the phone so I cant even make it Ring...
Had the same issue as people here (Please enable Phone Finder when it clearly was enabled) but after some HTCSense.com refreshing, suddenly the phone is appearing, and in the right place! Think it might be sorted now...
Nope still not working for me..
seems uber flaky - I wanted to demo it to to someone looking to buy the phone and it completely bombed today - which made for a less than impressive demo. It has worked for me in the past but seems to be really struggling now
definitely working ok for me, just tried toggling the enabled/disabled setting on the phone a bit and then after a few minutes the and a refresh on the HTC site it appeared! Also been pushing ringtones and free apps to the DHD successfully this afternoon.

try locking the phone remotely - or downloading a 1000 contact address-book
Change your default location to UK it will work then.
Ever since unlocking my phone, I have been experiencing very troublesome issues. It all started with picture messages not going through and giving me "Can't Send Message. Try Again." Then pictures that I received started coming in as "Media content in this message" that never downloads. I tried showing this to a friend of mine that also has WP7, but of course the image sent. That is literally the only picture I have been able to send in the past two weeks.
Nothing seems to affect it as far as battery percentage, signal strength, Wi-Fi connectivity, or anything.
Websites are also having a lot of trouble loading. Most won't load unless I let the loading bar get to about 90%, then re-enter the address. I also get a lot of "We're having trouble viewing this page right now" messages. Very frustrating.
The Marketplace has been having trouble loading at times as well.
Some apps and games that require internet connections are having spotty issues. Sometimes USA Today won't load any news. Words By Post gives me network connection errors. 4th and Mayor sometimes tells me I have no connection to location services.
All of this is really starting to frustrate me. I can't figure out what is going wrong. The only thing I can think of is that I Windowsbreak/interop unlocked my phone around the same time I started having issues. All I've installed is a battery percentage meter, a screenshot app, AdvancedConfig to change my themes and get rid of app dehydration, and WP7 Root Tools so I could get the 8107 update.
PLEASE, someone help me.
and for reference, I have a Samsung Focus with 8107 on it.
Oh and another issue, sometimes my phone goes through HUGE lag phases where scrolling through menus is incredibly choppy and slow. The only way to fix it is to lock the device and let it rest for a minute.
I may try and get video evidence of this.
I would do a hard reset and see how it works and then slowly proceed with unlocks/homebrews again one step at a time and make sure your phone works well before going the next step. And, make a back-up each time so you can go back one step if you find the one that messes up.
Never try to change and hack everything at once; errors can occur.
Ehh I'm really not trying to do a hard reset just yet...I'm hoping there is some magical solution to this.
SD Card?
Have you an SD Card installed and how much of it is used? Like you, I would do everything short of a hard reset to solve this problem.
No sir, no SD card has been installed into this phone. I learned my lesson after having to get a replacement when I got an irreversible card read error on my last Focus.
That being said, this is a refurbished device.

Some users were having data issues after windowbreaking. There is a fix in the thread and it's quite simple iirc. Ask in the thread.
edit: try this too

Well, after failed attempts at fixing this, and even working with Heathcliff on a solution, I decided to hard reset.
Re-unlocked my phone and installed AdvancedConfig. So far everything seems ok.
I know that it resets to release 5 instead of 6 which could lessen your data , but it is easily fixed in diagnostics :
*#32489#
back 1 time
NAS CONTROL
[5] RRC(HSPA) CONTROL
1 TO DISPLAY mine read release 5 after windowbreak
I then changed it back to release 6
you might also have dualmode turned off, turn it on for better perfomance
if you used heathcliffs interop did you also go to *#94765# auto sim config?
If all else fails talk Jax he made windowbreak!
I have a Canadian Rogers Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900W8) running the latest software update (as of last night).
Any time I dial someone's number, there is a full 10 to 15 seconds delay/lag before the phone 'reacts' and starts to actually make the call. This lag/delay happens regardless if I am:
using speed dial (though it is especially obvious then)
manually dialling a number
sliding to the right on a person's contact (quick dial)
pressing and holding on a contact's number to dial
I've tried adjusting the Google Sync settings, turning on/off the "Sync People details" as well as my Samsung account's "Sync contacts". I've disabled Facebook/Linked In "Sync Contacts", based on my theory that there was some sort of hiccup being caused by these apps' attempts to pull data on the contact immediately upon me placing the call.
The other issue is that Contact photos/names are also severely delayed when receiving an incoming call, for example when my phone starts ringing, all that I can see is their phone number at the top of the screen (almost as if it's the 'raw' cellular data), and not their name or picture (as normally would immediately appear on say my Galaxy S 3).
I've searched all over but have yet to see this issue pop up. This seems really strange. Any ideas or solutions?? Thanks!
Edit: I tried a second battery pull and hard restart and this seems to have fixed the issue for now. Weird!
If it's any consolation, it's not just your Rogers Note 3. I'm having the same issue with the Note 3 made for T-Mobile USA. I'm going to try the battery pull like you suggested and see if that resolves the issue, as well as some alternate dialers. I'll post my luck once I've tried this.

I have found this problem (delay dialing) for 2 weeks.
When I connect to internet, by wifi or mobile data, it is corrected. But whenever the internet connection is disconnected , it apears.
I'm disappointed from Note 3 because of lots of bugs that has got especially after update to kitkat
-delay dialing
-not working any auto call recording app.
-not working properly it's sensors.
And etc
Same bug here. 4.2.1. Phone was fine, never used to do it. randomly started doing this around the same time as I started getting multiple duplicate sms messages. Dialing delay goes away when wifi is on.
Very annoying. I'm open to suggestions!

At least 150MB of phone memory should be free..
Else, it'll lag..
I removed a few apps and now am having 200MB of free space on my Phone Memory (internal), and there are no lags..

Thanks for your reply! I have 1.1gb RAM free pretty much all the time, 1.18GB ROM free, and 20.99GB internal SD free.
Not sure this is the problem.
I got the same problem and i realized after i read this post that it doesnt happen if im connected with wifi. There should be a way to fix this, its a 500euro phone there shouldnt be such problems...
Had the same problem with a Samsung Relay, after a few updates. Had a chat with Samsung, after a hard cache clearing left me with the option to factory reset. Which I'm not very interested in. Uninstalled a lot of applications, then by chance connected to the wifi and sent an email. After that, it seems to be working now.
Didn't fix the problem for more than a few hours. Actually I believe hooking on wi-fi did it, because I connecting again this morning solved the problem again.
I installed a firewall and denied permission for all apps, let's see if this works...
No, the firewall doesn't work.
After connecting on wireless it works for about 3-4 hours. Then again bull**** happens. Don't know why, but this relation is interesting. There is no actual traffic sent form the device, since the firewall blocks a lot of the system bull**** apps from communicating, but after enabling it it works.
I see that enabling wireless even for a short while (3sec) is enough to get it back on track. Why might this be so?...
Prey
Factory reset, reinstall everything, then encryption. 4 hours. Tested during the procedure to see if it dials fast. It dialed, until the end, when it started to have the same problem again.
Then I got the wonderful idea from above to check if there is something wrong with Prey. A software to block your phone if it's stolen. And guess what, as long as it's not connected to the Internet, it hangs and won't open. Maybe this was creating the problem? Don't know, but for now I uninstalled it and it seems to be working. I remember it did an update before the problem occurred, maybe the update is the problem? Will write again if the problems persists.

Seems I'm having the same issue on two of my Prey-enabled devices (HTC One X+ and HTC One X) after upgrading to latest version. Happens with Data-off.

So.. Story begins..
I bought my S8 a few months back.. Worked flawlessly (Stateside).. Then I came overseas and the problems began.. I requested my service to be suspended by Verizon and after doing so my phone began to freak out.. I don't know for sure if this is the cause but having just received my replacement device and experiencing the exact same issue. Could it be possible?
Issue: No matter what I am doing on the phone it will freeze for a split second then appears to refresh.. For example.. If I am typing an email, as I am writing my keyboard locks up and the phone becomes unusable then it jumps to the top of the app and then I can continue .. It is SOOOO frustrating because for example.. SnapChat: While I am writing and the screen freezes and refreshes, I lose everything I wrote.. If I'm scrolling through Facebook .. It jumps back to the top..This became more frequent and even more annoying! Even if I am in the settings menu scrolled all the way to the bottom.. it freezes for a second and then jumps to the top of the app.. So.. I began removing apps I thought could be the cause of the problem.. I cleared the cache on the phone as well as the apps, reset settings, removed/re-added Google accounts, even tried some developer options to scale down the graphics, background processes etc.. No avail.. I finally caved in and contacted Verizon who put me in touch with TechCoach app to remote in a see the issue for themselves.. All the troubleshooting steps they walked me through, I had already done.. So they sent me a replacement.. I set the new phone up, installed the software updates, just a few apps to test and sure enough same issue! Then I wiped the phone again.. didn't install any software updates, I left it bare bones and even set the phone up as new (no restore from Google)... So as I am writing this TechCoach wants to send me yet another replacement device.. But I'm certain the "Certified Like-New" S8 they send me will end up doing the same thing.. What it appears to be to me (No expert here) is that once I came overseas and suspended my line.. There's some service/app that is trying to push/pull over network data and since it's unable to do so it's causing the phone to glitch? I mean I really can't think of any other reason this could be happening .. Furthermore, I tried different Wi-Fi connections, changed performance modes, disabled many "enhanced features" ... Any ideas/suggestions greatly appreciated while I wait for the replacement device.... Thanks XDA!
Update:
Verizon had to reactivate my line before they could send a replacement... So I asked the rep to keep my line active to see if the issue persists.. Would you believe it worked flawless as it did when I first bought it without issues.. So my theory was right!!! Some service running in the background is attempting to refresh without connectivity.. I'm now going through every system app to disable and test ... more to follow!
