Don't you miss the d-pad ? - Touch HD General

Hello all blackstone owners,
I'm currently a Kaiser owner. I'm thinking about going to the Blackstone. But I was wondering if the lack of a D-Pad would not be a problem for me.
For exemple, if I open a file explorer, to browser the files (up and down) I use the D-Pad. So I'm not obliged to use the stylus.
How does it work with the blackstone when you have to browser files, are you obliged to use the stylus ?
Note : the files explorer is just an exemple (I know Resco Explorer can help in browsing with the fingers), I 'm wondering the same question when you need to browser your notes for exemples, or anything else ...
Thanks !

With the Touch HD you can scroll in the file explorer with your finger as well!

Do you mean that you can browser the files using your fingers in the integrated microsoft file explorer ?
Can you also do that with all other applications like "notes" for exemple ?
Thanks

You can't scroll in notes with your finger (it just draws a line where you would like to scroll), but in every other application it works fine.

cursor keys
I solved this with "AE Button Plus" mapped keys.
You see in spanish at this address: http://www.htcmania.com/showthread.php?p=160176

Had a Qtek S100 and a HTC Tytn before my HD and was a big button user
Getting used to all touch on the HD took about 2 hours
So it's fine by me !

Thanks to all of you for your answers, I guess I'll need to try it by myself... But it will take months before I can touch one in a shop...

Touch Commander

Carry forward as written on the site:
Touch Commander - a unique application for controlling PDA and smartphones by recognizing and responding to the touch and sweep of a finger across the screen. With Touch Commander in place, you get a one-touch access to phone calls, emails, SMS messages, calendar, appointments, applications and other commonly used content.
The “touchy-feely” effect provided by Touch Commander is much the same as the finger touch scrolling, browsing and spinning a three dimensional interface by the finger in the Touch phone by HTC TouchFLO or Apple iPhone. Touch Commander is customizable, letting you configure many of its settings. Another nice touch in the program is support for any model of PDA powered by Microsoft Windows Mobile 5 or higher. But the biggest specialty, of course, lies in the price, which is nothing compared to the prices of the hi-end phones.
All for $ 14.95

Opera Mini 4 Power Scrolling with the Sprint HTC Touch / Vogue

Greetings all,
Opera Mini 4 is one of the best browsers out there for any phone (regular phone or smartphone). Before getting the Touch, I had been using Opera Mini to surf the web on my regular phone.
One of the most convenient features in Opera Mini was the ability to use "Power Scrolling Shortcuts". Where you can scroll around on the web pages quickly by using the phone's number keys. Press 2 to go up, 4 to go left, 6 to go right and 8 to go down. Hitting 5 zooms you in and out.
The Touch isn't able to take advantage of the "power scrolling" because of its lack of of a keypad. Is there a way I can customize or map my D-pad to power scroll?
I've searched far and wide but with no solution in sight. I've also tried VITO ButtonMapper with no luck.
Thanks in advance for your inputs!

I'm surprised you can get OperaMini to run on the Touch! Every time I load it and run it, I get a Java runtime error. But I loved it on my last phone.

Yeah, I also had the same issue until I downloaded Cloudyfa's Jbed Midlet Manager. You can find it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1483665
This Jbed midlet manager seems to run faster and more stable than the one installed with Sprint's Touch. Additionally, it makes more efficient use of your screen by allowing Opera Mini to run in full screen mode.
umm... for me it's already set up like this. i just use the d-pad to scroll around the page.
is that what you mean? though the only way to zoom out is to hit the on-screen button.

Something to do before using X1

Dear all,
I finally get the X1 on hand. (I have waited it for 1 year). Expect charging the battery. Any Tweak, Program, Settings and others should be done on X1 first? Please advise. Thanks!
get the latest fw before you start installing stuff
xperia tweak (clifford)
spb panel will be in the fw
get yourself a registry editor (resco, SDK tools)
with regards to apps its down to choice and $$$, i dont think anyone uses all the apps from this forum, youtube is a good one though.
Read all the stickies! They will prepare you for the journey ahead.
also read the XDA-WIki entry for x1
Get the following apps if you can afford it or if you're smart and unscrupulous enough to find a keygen/crack:
-RESCO Explorer: Best file explorer incl. Registry Editor and FTP Support
-SPB PocketPlus: Neat tool for the home screen, unless you prefer to use SPB MobileShell
-Garmin Mobile XT or TomTom 7 (The latter is *ONLY* illegally available at this time): Onboard navigation software
-Panoramic Calc Pro: Best calculator
-Spb Wireless Monitor: To monitor your traffic
-Spb Insight: RSS feed reader, very good. You can use the built-in reader of SE panel, though.
-Spb Finance: Manage your accounts
-Spb Keyboard: Screenkeyboard so you don't always have to slide the phone open
-Inesoft Phone: Dialer/Contacts/Etc, more professional than the built-in
Notice you can fully try all Spb Software for 2 weeks to see if you like it.
The following are free:
-Advanced Config: Tweak everything
-Notepad 1.5: Notepad as on Windows, fast & useful
-G-Watch: Stopwatch (There is no default)
-SmsImport: Easily import & export text messages to/from XML file
-Startmenu.exe: Opens/Closes Startmenu. Needed to assign a softkey to open/close the startmenu which I think is the best thing you can do.
-HTC Touch HD Videoconverter: BEST video converter for X1i. USE THIS ONE, IT'S THE ONLY ONE THAT WILL PRODUCE GOOD RESULTS!
You may also want to install a couple of games.
Anyone know the sound issue? Has it been solve?
Dear all,
I know it may be a stupid question. But I have use it for 3 hrs for search. I have installed Resco Explorer. But I don't know how to find the Registry file. Please help. Thanks!

It should be in the Programs-Folder of the STartmenu. It's called "Resco Registry" You could also tap the Star in Resco Explorer in the top left corner and it should show you a list containing "My Registry". If that is not the case, you have no installed the addon. I think you're prompted for this during installation, I don't fully remember.
EDIT: Checked it out. With PC installer you should be prompted. CAB Installers are separate files. You can download them here: http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/explorer/downloads.asp

Opera Mobile 10 for Ozone (and Maple)

HTC Ozone - Same as others, cannot use keys to accept the EULA. Cannot arrow down to "click" accept.
If this build is not "Smartphone compatible", someone needs to get on the marketing department and start sending some corrections. It's being posted *everywhere* that this is both Touch and Non-touch compatible.
Touchscreen & keypad (http://www.opera.com/mobile/) - It's even on your web page.
So, where's the beef?
you can install the fake cursor software and do what u want to do....BUT
i have tried the Opera 10 on my HD and guess what????NO flash support...still...i mean what the hell....SKYFIRE has that and works perfectly on all devices...Give that a try
What cursor software is this?
It's called FakeCursor. U will find it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=389384
Opera 10 beta 3 works now lawlessly on HTC Snap.
Only annoying thing is the keyboard which is useless.
Somebody managed to use the keyboard to scroll for example?
