I have seen where there are some registry changes or cabs that can be downloaded to increase battery life. However, much of what I have seen is specific to Mobile 6.0. Does anyone have a tweak that has proven to increase battery life for Mobile 6.1? Thanks.

There is a new questions and answers section in the main forum. That's usually a good place to start with questions. Anyhow, there is a thread at ppcgeeks with a good archive of registry tweeks. It can be found here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=11156. There is also an entire sub forum for registry tweeks at: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=27. As far as I know, most of these work on wm 6 and 6.1. Also, since switching to wm6.1, I have noticed a large increase in overall battery life so it may not be necessary for you. Anyhow, good luck and check out the new questions and answers thread.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Hi all,
as everybody I am wondering what things I might do to speed up my small device.
-I have both Spb Pocket Plus 3.1 and Wisbar 2 to choose from as a task-manager.
-I would like to see the actual available amount of mem. so I know when it is time to do a soft-reset.
-I have Pocket Mechanic available. No doubles in the notification que.
-I have the Ext-Rom empty and available for use.
As I am installing the Task manager, would it be better to install it in the Ext-Rom then rather in the device-memory, would this change speed of the device ?
Which of the two Task-Manager (in its latest beta-version) is better to speed up the system, as I understand both do slow down. But which is worse ?
I did read the advice from craig in the sticky thread about our pda, but the information there is rather old already. Is it still bad to have task-managers show You the actual memory available ? and does this change the speed of the device ?
thanks for any answers / advice
Ruud

That should be enough for now, let me know when you want references to more forums that discuss the ways and means of speeding up the device.
You can also review the wiki which gives some hints and tips on cache, changing memories, and also remove animations from the menus.

Wow thanks Simon, that should be a real help.
Started with the first one, and I think they are all good reads, so pls NO, for now I do not need any more references, I will be fine all day (or week ;-)

Hello friends,
Im a new PPC user. I have a T-mobile Wizard. There are a lot of freeware available for the Wizard. Since there are too many pages to read and a lot of freeware to compare, I need some help from Wizard users who had their Wizard for a while now. There are only a couple of things I need from the Wizard.... Outlook Email, Internet, and a good Iphone Theme. Does it makes sense to upgrade to the WM6? What are the benefits of WM6? Other than that I just need my Wizard to be really quick.
Thank you friends in advance and I really hope you can help a new windows mobile user.

Well, you will need to spend some time reading if you want to glean anything from this site.
Anyhow, I would recommend upgrading to WM6. A few reasons being is it has HTML capable Outlook (since you mentioned you'd be using that). It's also less buggy, faster and just more stable than WM5 too.
So, you can leave it as-is, and have a perfectly usable device. Or plan on spending a lot of time reading, reading, and reading some more to upgrade and customize. I'd say it's quite worth it though.
Start in the WIKI. It has links to everything that will get your phone unlocked and upgraded.
Just please keep in mind that this site appreciates those that help themselves first. If you do get stuck on something and can't find the answer, don't hesitate to ask.
Good luck!
Maybe more time reading and less time on the '!' key would help.
I'm going to disagree with TaurusBullba on WM6 stability and speed. I tried a number of WM6 ROMs on my G4 Wizard and found them to have a more issues than my original O2 ROM. That's not to say the O2 ROM didn't have issues, but I found most WM6 ROMs to have more / more serious issues. My advice would be to look at a thread for a ROM you might like to install. You will almost certainly find users stating any issues they're having.
Furthermore, on the ROM front, it requires a lot more reading and a lot less '!' , so I would sit back and be content with WM5 for the moment whilst reading the forum.
You will find the most comprehensive iPhone threads in the General board of this forum, although I believe there is a thread in one of the Wizard boards too.
If you don't mind paying, I've found Opera is a good replacement to Pocket IE.

Thank you for the information. Im actually very familiar with opera. I had it installed on my blackberry and is so much faster. I think I'll Stick with WM5 since everywhere I read they mention that it has a lot more bugs I think I'll wait untill I get more familiar with my wizard and also when the fix the bugs on the WM6. Thank you guys for the replys.
Excuse me if this has already done the rounds or there is already a resource which accomplishes the same...
It would be great if we had a resource that included all the common registry tweeks in one place so that a quick scan through could find solutions to common problems that can be resolved with a simple registry tweek.
I invite you to add tweeks that you have found useful & would like to share....
Impossible!!!!

Let me be the first say this now before this thread (or you) get flamed hard. There are way too many communities/forums/devices out there, conisisting of way too many stock and cooked roms. When it comes to reg tweaking, it's best to use the search feature here, (which is strongly recommended and encouraged).

Yes I did this time, but I have a sneaky suspicion it'll be the last time I'll beat you to the punch, lol. (jk)
There is the WiKi here, where I usually find and post registry tweaks.
Perfect just what I was after !!

Thanks for that.
How about tweaks to change how bluetooth is handled by different apps.
Appears that many of the available ROMs handle bluetooth differently & I'm assuming that this is largely due to registry settings. Does anyone have the low down on controlling the way the phone hands back control to audio manager after a call?
hi there people i'm sort of new here and have been reading page after page of information trying to find out which ROM's RADIO and applications and tweeks would best serve me.
i have downloaded the apps i think are the best starting point but i've become stuck when it comes down to the tweek tools. i have found 2 which interest me but i'm unsure as to which would work best
1. Schap's tools - Advanced Configuration Tool 3.3
2. DiamondTweak 0.5.3: Tweak it easy
could some advise me which is the best one for a new user to the windows moblie world
and i have tried to read up before posting thanks in advance for any help and advice given.

Use them both!
they each have some unique features and it aint like the memory usage is really bad, i think in total, together that take less than 1Mb
(I use both!) Happy Tweaking
MysticGenius thanks for taking the time to answer me, much kudos!!
but won't they both be tweeking and configuring the same features, will using them both be like running 2 differing anti virus programs??

no they have some the same features and some different.
also some of the features may not be applied properly with diamond tweak, but are applied correctly with ADV Conf and visa versa.
i have both, they do not constantly run therefore it is not like having 2 anti virus programs.
i do alot of graphic design, i prefer using the gimp for some and photoshop for others, both softwares do the same thing in general, but they do things differently. it depends on what effect i want.
these are the same.
or if you dont want both install them both and remove the one you dont like, but personally i use both, i find that diamond tweak works best with graphical/user settings and such like where as i prefer using advconfig for more system related tweaks like changing the times of cutting my calls off for example.
MysticGenius thanks for the advice i'll install them and let you know how i get on then
MysticGenius, installed both successfully and had play around but i've removed the advanced config tool untill i've got my head round it!! thanks for the advice
Hi all,
I inherited an old Orange SPV m500, and found this forum while searching for a way to unlock it from Orange. It worked and was very helpful, so you have my thanks for that!
Then I see all this skinning business and I would love to customise the phone a bit more; there's several things I'd like to do including installing a bigger dialler, a better 'homepage', etc, etc. So I went ahead and installed what seemed to be the latest ROM I could use (the WWE_O3 Cottula rom, which is the last one with a working camera from the looks of it - I need the camera). That's all fine and dandy and worked nicely (although it often tells me I've just inserted a memory card when I haven't).
However, all this extra software is an absolute mystery. It's all circular references which isn't helped by the lack of clear English (no offence, I know it's not everybody's mother tongue). I simply can't seem to find a start point that explains what software does what, how to install it, etc. All the threads seem to assume that you already know the software and what it does. Even the 'wiki' for the magician is limited to descriptions of upgrading the ROM. JMLToday Touchflo Manilla 3d 2d etc. etc.
I don't have a very modern device, so I don't expect to be able to install all of the latest whizzbangs on it, and to be honest I don't need a huge bundle of features, but I'd love to make my phone easier and faster to use and I know you guys have put huge effort into software to do just that. I just can't figure out what I need or how to go about getting it.
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated!
Welcome to the forum xobby. First of all xda-developers is mainly a technical forum to help in upgrading and tweaking your device. There may be threads involving applications but , like you said, it's not very organized. So the first thing you have to do is use the search function to look for what you are looking for. If you can't find anything then you might ask nicely from the members in the forum for help. If you are looking for specific applications then there are other sites that is more suited for searching for applications.
I would suggest that you do a general search of the internet for programs, skins, etc that you would like to install in your unit and where to download them. It requires a lot of searching and looking I know but that is just the way it is.
Good luck!
By the way. Since you upgraded to WM6.1 by Cotulla, you will have no problem installing almost all of the newest applications available for windows mobile the same as those for the newer more expensive phones.
