Some speed questions - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi all,
as everybody I am wondering what things I might do to speed up my small device.
-I have both Spb Pocket Plus 3.1 and Wisbar 2 to choose from as a task-manager.
-I would like to see the actual available amount of mem. so I know when it is time to do a soft-reset.
-I have Pocket Mechanic available. No doubles in the notification que.
-I have the Ext-Rom empty and available for use.
As I am installing the Task manager, would it be better to install it in the Ext-Rom then rather in the device-memory, would this change speed of the device ?
Which of the two Task-Manager (in its latest beta-version) is better to speed up the system, as I understand both do slow down. But which is worse ?
I did read the advice from craig in the sticky thread about our pda, but the information there is rather old already. Is it still bad to have task-managers show You the actual memory available ? and does this change the speed of the device ?
thanks for any answers / advice
Ruud

That should be enough for now, let me know when you want references to more forums that discuss the ways and means of speeding up the device.
You can also review the wiki which gives some hints and tips on cache, changing memories, and also remove animations from the menus.

Wow thanks Simon, that should be a real help.
Started with the first one, and I think they are all good reads, so pls NO, for now I do not need any more references, I will be fine all day (or week ;-)

newbie with the tmobile wing has some questions.. help plz..

1. wheni try to download opera browser it asks me if i want to download the high or low memory version.. which one do i use?
2. i am trying to watch youtube videos so i downloaded flashplayer 7 and used opera as my browser to go to youtube.com but is keeps freezing and crashing to the point where i have to soft reset my phone.. why is this happening?
3 i am using battery status to overclock to 260.. is this the recommended speed?
4. whats the best way to allocate memory? free up some memory..?
i have alot more questions and will ask them as i remember them..
thx
Can you please search the forum first before you start asking these questions? We all had to search when we first got the device, no reason that you can't either...
maybe i already have done a search and could get any answers.. next time if u have nothing good to say dont say it..
id prefer to not be answered than be told to do something i already did.
have a good one sir
theres plenty of topics with battery status mentioned and the recommended or tested speeds
you could've posted in a topic that was already started about the Youtube on the wing.... you dont even have to search for this one, its in one of this Herald sub-forums.
and theres PLENTY of topics that speak of how to free up memory, such as hard resetting and when the device boots back up and says its about to customize, do a soft reset (pull battery or turn off phone)
SEARCH NOOB

4: Search (hint: pagepool herald, only attempt when more experienced)
Please don't post the other questions when not searched GOOD enough, but every new member need to be directed Just like me with my first posts
1. The Dutchman was faster!!!
2. I also had probs with Flashplayer 7 on my device. It totaly crashed my system, needed to hardreset. so I gave up trying youtube on my XDA.
3. 260Mhz is good enough, but you will suffer alot in battery drain. CPU scaler of BatteryStatus might be also an option for you (More about BatteryStatus in the Prophet subforum, easy to find it's a sticky thread)
4. As Dutchman said, resizing the pagepool is a good way, but definitly only for experienced users. You can brick your device easily. A simpler approach is to stop certain programs from running at startup or in the background. You can get rid of your programs in your tray,e.g.
I know the forums search is not the best, but with a bit more patience you might have been more successful and you would have a nicer start here in this forum. As you could see, in the response of Dutchman and me your questions have already been covered and discussed more or less intensively.
Anyway, all the best with your Wing and have fun here

Dear ****,
Please be aware that you've mistakenly posted in an adult forum. We feel that you'd be more at home back in your gamer forums where others of your intellect understand your 'l33t' speak. We wish you all the best as you journey back to your land, where I am sure you will 'lolz' and be 'uber' all the time. Meanwhile, you may note: When speaking to adults - you are advised not to address them as 'noob' as this is seen as offensive. Further violation of this warning will result in a note being sent home to your parents.

Cant we all just get along...
Can we get back to the issues and stop the foolishness?

Try to get this as a sticky---Best apps for different uses

This forum has a lot of information and a lot of input and applications and downloads. I recently started coming here a few weeks ago and little by little have gotten through quite a few threads and downloaded some amazing stuff. However, it's been difficult at best and quite slow and tedious and I know there is still lots of stuff I'm missing.
What I was thinking is how it would be great if we had one unified post that summarized and organized some of the most popular applications that are available here. Something like:
Best Music Players
--HTC Audio manager
--Mort Player
--etc.
Best Browser
--Opera Mini
--Picsel
--Skyfire
--etc.
Best locking program
--S2U2
--etc.
and so on, with the download links next to them. This would make referencing certain applications easy to find and download for all from various threads. With a few people in charge to moderate the thread, updates could easily be done as people post as they arrive or to alert others and then subsequently deleted.
I'm not sure if this has been brought up or attempted before, but I wanted to throw it out there. Please feel free to close or lock this thread if necesssary mods.
I would also add that some polls could be set up initially to identify some of these key applications to set up a "standard" list of applications that most users here should at least be familiar with and/or have on their devices.
Thanks and hope this idea helps out others if it's put forth.
Chain Fire's WMWIFI ROUTER
Slither's HTC CUBE Clone ( flash version )
Slither's HTC Cube ( C++ version )
Throttle Launcher
will add more later
Best Music Player:
Pocket Melody
Best Browser:
NetFront Browser 3.5
Best contact App :
-- PocketCM 0.19b !!
I can't find the pocket melody thread... can some one gimme a link...
Thanks
Sorry, but before this thread becomes very crowded and yet another "must have" list that gets lost in the realms of the web: Wouldn't it be better to do this in the XDA-Wiki?
Here's a good starting point.
A sticky hint might be a good idea, though, you've got to scroll the Wiki main page for a while to find it...

Thank you. That's exactly the type of format I'm looking for. I didn't want everyone to just come and start posting their favorite programs but instead to have ONE post that combined them all. I just don't know enough of them and haven't been around long enough to even begin to compile it.
That wiki page looks great. I just hope someone that has a little time and the desire to do this could pull it off. I just don't have either nor the knowledge to put out something that would be helpful. Thanks for the reply.
best tweaker
schaps config tool
Nice looking interface - Wisbar Advance Desktop
Best theme bars and text color changer:
RC Mod v.2.1 by o3blig
We should have official polls on what are the best apps for each category.
That way, the best of the best will show themselves and those who are not yet enlightened, WILL be.
It will also clear up arguments and let popularity decide.

Well, there is this thing about this forum.
You see, lots of people are building nice little programs for windows based phones, and there are many things that they didn't think of, because they didn't think that their keyboard was a really big problem.
They did find it a problem to have a keyboard to use with their fingers, because ot wouldn't leave enough space for their text mesaging.
battery life, it's seeded on the forum about that object.
and I did see a program that helped closing programs for you, but you might just wanna try start -> settings -> taskmanager -> buttons, maybe this already helps you
Everything on this forum is free and everyone is very willing to help you, but not if we see a question for the so maniest time.
What I propose to you, is if you are looking for something, but can't find it, make a request.
make perfectly clear what you are looking for and how this could benefit you.
maybe one of the programmers might see the benefit as well and wants to write someting for you.

Well the answers you have got show just what an unwelcoming and unfriendly place this is - certainly one of the worst forums for that I know. But then lots of useful info too, and that is the problem. Despite the "in crowd" people's suggestion the search tool is marginally more useful than wetting your finger and sticking it in the air, unless you are used to it!
Just a shame nobody has any Christmas spirit for newcomers aint it!
Hmm, I see what you mean.
Funny thing is, I didn't mean it to be this harsh, but as I read it back, I see how easily it is to provoke people.
So hereby I apologize to Hawk-Kthulu
I'll also will use the f word some less in the future.

just got my new xperia... wat should i do

hey guys, i got a new xperia last night. Now i know there are many tweaks out there... wat are the best or main ones to improve ANYTHING on the phone, please share.
You're new here, so the first thing you should do is READ...and do it lots.
Take things one step at a time - you've just got your new device, so play with it as it is first. Learn it's features and quirks, discover things that bug YOU, then start investigating ways of fixing them.
There's no point spending time fixing things that bug other people, you need to figure out what YOU want.
My own personal conclusion about WM6 devices is generally that if it isn't broke, don't fix it. If you're happy with something then leave it be. Just because others have different expectations doesn't mean you should too.
If I were you I would start reading the wiki

Piece of cake: Read here in the forums, especialy the sticky threads up in the front list, then READ a little more and keep reading
You'll find lots of interesting stuff for the xperia, which ROM is better or which app should I install? well... you will have to read, search and find for yourself the apps/ROMs that fit your requirements and needs
BTW: welcome to the developers forum
If you want to mess around with different programs I would recommend you get some sort of backup program for your contacts, messages and so on. Something like PIM Backup or Spb Backup. Why am I saying this; You are surely gonna f*** up your device a couple of times in the beginning and then would need to hard reset.
Hard reset = Reset to firmware default (Like it was when you bought it if you haven't flashed anything) deleting any configuration settings and installed programs etc.
Soft reset = Rebooting (Like restarting your computer's operating system).
Don't do anything with your phone unless you are sure what you are doing. Read up on anything if you are the smallest bit in doubt!
Try to use the search function in the forum as there is a big possibility someone has asked the same question before.
Good luck.
Welcome to the greatest forum on the internetz . I can only tell you what i did. Hope that helps.
1 - Go to google and type xperia. Find some good forums about it. (seems you already got that one in the bag).
2 - Read some info about your device. What is an ARM processor, what is windows mobile, what kind of games can you play, the resolution of the device +'s and -'s. Start with the small things, before you jump to ROMs, flashing etc.
3 - Read the sticky topics in this forum.
4 - After you have done some reading decide what you want and search the forum for info about programs or games you might like. Almost all the problems you encounter or questions you might have, have been discussed in the past.
5 - Customize your x1 .
6 - And if i may quote maedox - "Don't do anything with your phone unless you are sure what you are doing. Read up on anything if you are the smallest bit in doubt!"
That's what i did. I had to hard reset it a few times but now i got my fair share of experimenting and i have customized it to my tastes. The looks, the games, the programs .

Little question for everyone

Hallo everyone
There is a chance to answer simply question: Did change of rom helps me? And How?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=375338
NOTES:
You NEED HardSPL installed before flashing any ROM...
Don't forget to make a backup of all data before trying it out...
1st boot takes long time to complete...
Hard Reset after 1st Boot (when it gets 2 calibration screen) to minimize problems, this is always a must as most problems are do to not doing so...
use compatible Radio depending on what version you download...
3G an H are disabled by default for max battery...
some programs have been tweaked, so if you feel they are slower or got bugs, please report them...

It did help me !!! much faster navigation, more free ram memory, less useless to me programs !!!!
try a full version if you do not like to spend lots of time configuring the device but if you like everything at your taste go for the naked ones and be prepared to spend lots of time on it.
In english: "Did changing you ROM help you? And if so, how?"
Simple answer: Yes. Changing ROMs always helps, whether it be for speed/looks/customization reasons. Every PDA I get, the first thing I do is change to a few different ROMs till I find one that suits me and my needs/expectations (or as close to).
Since i have a lot of software i love naked(without almost any software) rom so i can customize my own way.
You can also upgrade/downgrade to a different OS(WM6.0,WM6.1,WM6.5) or with different UI...just browse some ROM´s in this sub-forum they are self-explanatory most of the times.
