Last night I went to take my first picture in dimly lit conditions ( I was in the Pub DJ'ing), and am hugely dissapointed!!
Firstly you cannot see anything on the screen when trying to look at the subject about to be photographed, for a second I thought the screen had tuned off it was that black!!
So I then took the photo (blind) and this was the result.......
Asside from the fact that it is blurry which was probably down to me not holding the phone steady as I was in shocked disbelief that I could not see anything, it is a terrible picture, he looks like a ghost because of the white out effect from the flash!
It really was a bad experience which is a million miles away from the day time photo taking pleasure that see results like this....
Although it is still a little washed out.
Does anyone have any tips for better quality pics?? Or a tweak that actually allows you to see what your about to photo when it's pooly lit (like in a Pub)?
Cheers!

Cheers but it's not the pink splodge i'm dissapointed with, I cant see that in any of my pics.
It's the fact that you cant see anything on the screen or focus when your in low light conditions, shooting blind, and then the white out effect!
i have the same problem too! you cant change the flash settings as far as i know. but the flash is way too bright(makes a great flashlight though )
I find that if you turn the assistance flash on before you take the photo, the light levels are better adjusted.
Theres seems to be a problem with the flash timing/sync etc..!!!
its a commoon problem, ive contacted HTC(as have others). Check out this thread to see their replys.

My HD2 takes pretty good pics for a phone.
Any updates on the flash adjustments
I agree. It seems crazy for you to be expected to frame a shot properly when the screen is pitch black ,the light should come on on its own when the light sensor detects that it is dark!
The best thing to do for now is to manually turn the flash on using the flash button before you take the shot, at least thats an easy work around.

lol the camera is fine, its not as good in macro if you use the camera flash, what I do is just turn the flash on using the torch aplication, then have the flash set to off in the camera app and all is fine.

Peace gardens!! You live in Sheffield?
Sadly I don't think there's much you can do here, that's just the nature of LED flash; it's just useless (and that's why you never see it on normal cameras). And this thing has TWO LED flashbulbs xD
They should have just used xenon flash like a normal camera?? But I think they use far more battery life.
Hi everyone.
My xperia x10 camera doesn't flash while taking a photo. The Led light at the back is just in on state but doesn't flash. In advance settings, when I select photo light as "on" the light powers up but when I take a photo it doesn't flash as it does in Nokia N95 or Htc Desire. Does anyone else has the same problem ?
It doesn't flash, the X1 didn't flash and neither does the X10... It's a light you can enable it via the Camera menu.
I don't know what Sony has against flashes... but they have something.
Hope SE fix that **** with next update.
yes that's so irritating :S do we have any good software to take photo.. X10 default one is not so good :/
I believe it's a limitation of android 1.6,

Yeah, well. ****sux. lol Don't know if the hardware is limited to on only. Desire has an insane flash but the LED isn't all that strong with flashlight apps.
It's not a flash.
It's a photo light.
I actually made my x1 led flash by one of the custom Rom but I can't recall which one

I think SE will not put a flash in the coming update
Sent from my X10i using Tapatalk
it isn't a OS limitation.. it's a bad implementation. Other devides with 1.5 and 1.6 have autoflash
are there any workarounds out there to make the camera light flashes instead of keep shining when taking photos in dark environments, especially in a club or something.. it is quite blinding for people whom u are taking pics for and the photo turned up wif everyone frowning and wif smaller eyes as they were fighting to keep their eyes opened...
You can use Vignette & select auto flash. It will do a flash. But its a fked up flash
use the vignette app
Vignette is awesome!!! So much better than the default program... I'm getting the full version... thanks everyone for ur advise!!!

Sorry, that made me laugh. I haven't used Vignette but what's actually wrong with the flash it causes? Is it because the led in the X10 isn't so powerful?
I agree with everyone else though. My W810 had a flash and my C905 of course has a realer flash. While I was expecting one at least functionally similar to the former phone it is only listed as a photo light and behaves as such.
Is it me or can we only find the Demo version in the market? The full paying version seems to be not available anymore?!
Hello guise,
This time I'll share with you something that @RyokoN found out. Please thank him here. I just made proper changes to the file he mentioned.
Someday I was killed by my friend N5 torch. It was so bright. Now I decided that I want my torch to be actually useful, just like his torch is. (we were trying to see details in a dark place to fix the window).
It may break your LED if you leave it on for some time. I'm not responsible for any damage. It actually made my back around the LED a bit warm after a few seconds in the extreme version!
Please be aware that it's not safe to test it on devices that are older than Xperia Z as LED's may vary hardware-side.
Anyway, enjoy
Extreme version - just torch
Medium version - just torch
Medium version - torch, camera, flash, notification LED <------------ RECOMMENDED!
Extreme version - torch, camera, flash, notification LED
Revert to stock Z1 torch
It's based on Z1 .108 firmware (4.4.4), but it WILL work on 4.3 roms. Can't say about older android versions - you tell me!
Please test and let me know how it went
It's significantly brighter now. At first it barely gave any light and now it's even brighter then the light in my room on a small distance, lol.
Confirmed working on:
Z 4.4.4
ZR
Z1 Compact
Z1s
Z1 4.3 4.4
Z2 4.4
Z3 4.4
That's what I'm talking about! FINALLY a flashlight that I can use! It works great!
Wow! Tks to your mod, I'm finally throw my flashlight out in the garbage because now it's brighter that that old flashlight.....
Have you checked if the led can endure the increased amount of current?
i dont want my led to be damaged permanently because of this

I didn't, but it's using the same current like the flash in camera. It shouldn't harm your device if you won't use it for a long time like 15 minutes - just a guess.
As always, use it in your own risk.
Ok.. that's awesome!!!! It's amazing, even if you turn torch on when taking a photo it's brighter that flash itself.. I'm wondering
If there is any chance to boost flash at the same level with camera to get better pictures..

1 of the disadvantages of glass+metal: it heats up pretty quickly,
OMG
DANG this is bright, confirmed working for Xperia Z1S I actually kind of blinded myself without even looking at the led directly

worked on the first try for me. However, it was a little bit laggy. Had the graphics quality on High but it's definitely not because of my network since I have Gigabit and professional hardware (Switches and Access Point).

have you unlocked bootloader? if yes do you have ta folder backed up???
If your notifications seem quiet, use the volume button, in volume settings it can be on max and sound quiet, but if you use volume on home screen it will increase. I think it's tied to media volume for some reason. Heard peoe say about camera viewer lag and tried 4k video, got 9:30 recorded and phone was barely warm. Couldn't record longer as ran out of storage. I think they have done something to the viewfinder that stops the phone overheating. Before I couldn't get more than 7 minutes.

Yeah, I am talking about quality on a phone cam sensor. The quality difference is so much that even with naked eye, and even a dull headed person will notice the difference! And I am a DSLR guy by the way!
My biggest issue with CM is that there isn't a good multiwindow implementation yet. I know they're working on it (I think Google, could be CM, not entirely sure who exactly it is that's working on it), but the feature is still in early alpha. I can't use my phone without it. It's like not having a browser or a SIM card.
