Hi my Qtek S100 sent SMS messages doesn´t display the name of people that are in my phonebook, only de number. Is it possible to show de name not the number?
Thanks
I have that too, My mda compact only shows the names when i'm replying to a message
May be you can try this when sending sms:
In the "To" field, they the name of the person you want to send, just a first few letters, the possible names will come out, then choose the right one. Doing in this way, the name and telephone number of the recipient will appear on your sms notification.
PS: I am using this for IIs.
Nop! It only shows de number wich is very bad because that way i had to remember everyones phone number... Impossible they are 800. Imagine when i send multiple sms ( i advertise my club events personally to my friends that way). Even with a 50€ phone we can do that today... And that´s so simple to fix... Hallooooooo Microsoft!!!!!!!!!! Its a shame that a so good OS like this misses so elementary issues...

Are your numbers stored under the "mobile" field in your contacts? not sure if this will solve your problem, but I found that when my firend's mobile numbers were stored under "home" or "business", the SMS program will not automatically detect it.
Try moving a few to "mobile" and see what happens.
Sent SMS name identification reply
The primary mobile number is always in the mobile field (that´s another estupid thing in outlook fields because several people have more than one mobile phone, for different operators and we have only one mobile field in here). But that's not the problem, intellipad finds all the number fields but when you do enter, the selected number goes to the "to" field in the message only with the number not the name. If you do the same procedure with keyboard (you begin typping the inicial letters) and a new pop up box appears with the names and the numbers, when you choose the name it goes to the "to" field with both the name and the number. To type sms messages you don´t have most of the times pacience to grab the stylus and type with keyboard, it´s a different procedure, most of the times you are on the run, that´s the concept of the sms message, a quick and practical way to contact somebody without calling...
thanks
hmm...
... strangely enough, the intellipad feature isn't working now, after having flashed to the latest Qtek 1.06 ROM :?
In the TO: field, typing letters does not seem to trigger an "auto-search"... which is what you described in your post above, amaro. This was working perfectly on my old ROM, though I did skip the auto-installation after hard reset, so maybe it has something to do with that.
never mind.. i fixed the problem with a soft-reset.
SMS sent messages again...
Kai, does the new ROM fixed the front speaker sound problems? How do you find the new ROM? Can you send sms messages with intellipad showing the reciever name and number?
Thanks

Amaro,
Do you mean the earpiece for normal phone calls? (and not the speakerone next to the mirror) If so, I can say with a definite yes that there have been improvements! I got one of the first XDA mini's locally and was treated to high-pitched distortions and crackling sounds, y'know, the types that threaten to blow your ear drums away if you're not careful. After the 1.05 RADIO update, I have not noticed any problems after 60 mins of phone calls. I cannot say it has eliminated the problem 100%, that will take more time, but as of now it is MUCH IMPROVED.
Click THIS for information and instructions how the 1.05 radio upgrade. Be sure to backup everything as it *WILL* do a hard reset after the upgrade, which I did not know about
The messages in "Sent Items" folder does not contain the number of the recepient. What it shows is the number of the sender (My cell number).
What is this? bug?
Well, its been a while since I am trying to get sms confirmations but they dont seem to work.
Everytime I enable the checkbox asking for confirmation but all i get is SMS sent message which is almost instantenous. I know there is a tweak to activate sms delviery notification by default so that you dont have to click the checkbox everytime but nothing works.
I saw a program which allows you to get your contact name in the delivery confirmation but in my case I just dont get any confirmations.
Using: qtek 9100 with factory ROM 9/22/05 on cingular.
Or could it be a cingular problem ?
Guys, please let me know

Could be your network operator's problem, could also be a problem with the recipient's network operator. Both networks have to support the feature. Try with somebody else's SIM for an entirely different network - preferably after making sure that it works for them on their phone; assuming your device is SIM-unlocked.. if not, either unlock it (void warranty and whatnot) or just ask Cingular whether it's supported at all (good luck getting an answer beyond template replies)

Thanks for the reply. Well, I see your signature and I have the same device with the same ROM as yours. Do you have this problem ? Are you able to get delivery notifications. IF yes, then please let me know which provider to do connect to.
I tried calling cingular, and they were so dumb that they started giving me solutions like poweroff and on your phone etc. So i just had to cut it short with them.
I wish they had a technical support team.
well, sounds like you got fed "The Script" by cingular... a bunch of places with support sites have their people read a 'script'... it's long, tedious, and very often for people like 'us' who do know what they're doing it'll feel rather ridiculous and pointless. If it's a free number, though, walk through it - if nothing else they'll give you a case file at the end and somebody higher up to talk to. Could ask for the higher-up from the get-go, but they tend to ask you whether you did all the things the lower-down asked you to do, and if you say 'no' or 'yes' (lied), they just send you back
Anyway, on to your question...
Yep - it works fine for me. I'm using a Lebara Mobile SIM, which used to connect to the Telfort NL network, but appears to be connected to the O2 NL network at the moment. I've sent text messages to people in NL on Vodafone and Orange, to one person in the USA on Verizon and one person in Australia whose provider name I don't know They've always worked for me - always getting a "delivery notification" text message - typically just a few seconds after sending, though I've had it happen that it took several minutes as well.

This could well be the network as I had a similar problem when I was back in the UK recently and connected to O2. They don't support deliver confirmations on their network as standard but you could add a 4 digit sequence to each outgoing text message that would then give you a delivery message back. Pain in the ass but it was fine for the week I was back.
I'm on T-Mobile in the UK and I know you can prefix an SMS with *0# to get a delivery report issued. I'm using that quite a bit at the moment as the normal delivery report notifications don't seem to differentiate correctly between pending and fully delivered messages - i.e. on my Vario both report that the message has been delivered, which for a pending message is completely wrong.
Do other people get this problem too, by the way? Using *0# option you can get a full pending or a full delivered message, complete with the actual delivery time/date info and the system's message-ID number so you can match the pending report to the delivered item.

*0# didn't work on my Lebara (from PPC to old phone)
but it did work on Vodafone (from old phone to PPC)
funnily enough the *0# remains part of the text message on both ends
Edit: and looks like vodafone charged me an extra 3 eurocents for the service %)

Did you remember to leave a space after the # ?
I didn't the first time and it was delivered with the message )

Oh this is something I didnt know, so I should try it. Not sure whether cingular supports it or not but lets see. By the way when you say prefix an SMS, do you mean the number to whom we send the sms or the sms text ?
From v8Dave's response I guess you have to prefix the txt with this code. Can you confirm ?

With O2 you prefix your message with it and the network strips this off the message before sending to the recipient. Remember to add a space after it otherwise it does not work and the recipient gets the whole message with the *0# at the start.

Yep - tried that after googling around to see if I'm doing it wrong on the wizard and noticed that somebody mentioned that it was "star zero hash space".. still gets sent along %) Very odd
~ Z
On T-Mobile UK, the *0# (star zero hash) message prefix is correctly stripped off the message whether you use a space afterwards or not. You still lose 3 characters from your 160 maximum, though.
Could someone confirm whether they have the same problem as me with their normal Delivery Reports system though? i.e. when I send an SMS to a phone which is currently switched off, I get a "Delivered" report on my Vario almost immediately, and then another identical "Delivered" report whenever the SMS really is delivered to the recipient's phone. The first report should say "Pending", of course.
It works correctly when I use the *0# method, so I'm wondering whether the T-Mobile software in the Vario is re-wording the delivery report in some way, but getting it wrong for "Pending" status reports?

I was in a minor state of emergency earlier - where I had to send an MMS to a mate :x
This was my first time writing a MMS on the Vario (I had previously done so on the MDA Compact) so I was doing the usual....then it came down to entering the contacts...
Unlike sending a SMS message or email, the number of person does not come up as you type in the name. In fact, nothing comes up - and in the end, I had to copy the name onto a sheet of paper and then manually type it down into the Vario(!)
Am I missing something here? Your help is much appreciated
just click on the send icon near wher u type the name this will take u to the contacts list.

On mine it's the word 'To:', and don't worry you're not alone - I did exactly the same thing and eventually had to read the manual
Update the ROM to the latest version and it will automatically bring up there number when you type the name in

When I type the name in - it actually thinks i'm typing in the text part as it attempts to suggest words - pretty useless for contacts !!
BUT......
Actually click the word "To:" .. it doesn't look like a shortcut or anything - and it actually opens contacts....
yes - RTFM really does work !
On my BlueAngel (2003SE) - it correctly shows contacts when typing in the "To:" field...

When i save a contact with name and surname it appears on my contact list like this: Surname, Name (ex: Gates, Bill), can i change this so that the name is displayed first?(ex: Bill Gates).
Furthermore, can i disable the default format by which phone numbers are saved? By default when i add a phone number to a contact it appears like this (xxx) xxx-xxxx. Not that i have a problem with this BUT when i transfered some contacts from my p910 i found out that they were saved like xxxxxxxxxx. So what, you may think...well actually when a message delivery report arrives (and the contact is not saved with the "default phone format"), next to the phone number(in the delivery report) shows the name of the contact, something that is very usefull when -for example- multiple messages are sent or when a message is delivered 2-3 days later.
ps: actually, what i really need is not neccesarily to change the default phone format but to find out a way to see in the message delivery report the name of the contact that the message was delivered to.
ps2:sorry for the huge post!
thanx in advance
I had the same problem 2 years ago, and found out that it is impossible to let the PPC display the name as "Firstname Surname". So I "solved" it by saving the full name of the contact under Firstname. I know it isn't a solution but I couldn't get it to display it how I wanted it.
yeah, i did the same thing, but as you said it isn't a solution
Your problem here then is to hack the deilvery report, not Poutlook.

what matters is to achieve the goal and not how it will be achieved
True, but "Every Journey Begins With a Single Step, Minus Your Shoes".
Knowing what to hack and what not to hack is your first step. Poutlook, I believe, stores the contact data in whatever format it is happy with. You can't change that - you can change the external display of that data through the File As field, but that's subject to the app you are using using that field and not the underlying data stored in Poutlook.
So, if you wish to force the message delivery report into using the fields as you want them, hack that. Poutlook can't be easily hacked and is not your problem. So research hacking the delivery report, and/or learn to hack it yourself to force custom output.

thanx vijay555, i found this Name of recipient in SMS delivery receipt on WM5 and i guess this is what i was looking for
this really is very simple (assuming you sync with outlook on your pc).
In your contacts in outlook, double click a contact and in the "file as" drop down change it to "firstname lastname". then sync with your device and hey presto, all will be as you want!
bit of a pain in the arse if you've got 5billion contacts, but hey!
yeah, i discovered it yesterday, thanx anyway, but as you said its a pain...
I don't get it. If you're going to use File As, just use FileasFL to do the conversion automatically on your PPC.
V
Anyone knows how can I view the SMS details in WM6.5.x ?
Like SMS center or at least to view the source number. I have a contact that has 2 numbers saved on the phonebook. One is from home and another from work. I'm unable to tell from what number the received SMS comes because the phone replaces the number by the name. Even if after I go to that contact and delete the number, it doesn't change back the SMS origin to the phone number.
I am using a htc hd mini with manila and htc message application.
open a conversation with a person and long tap on a message. select "details"
