Well, its been a while since I am trying to get sms confirmations but they dont seem to work.
Everytime I enable the checkbox asking for confirmation but all i get is SMS sent message which is almost instantenous. I know there is a tweak to activate sms delviery notification by default so that you dont have to click the checkbox everytime but nothing works.
I saw a program which allows you to get your contact name in the delivery confirmation but in my case I just dont get any confirmations.
Using: qtek 9100 with factory ROM 9/22/05 on cingular.
Or could it be a cingular problem ?
Guys, please let me know

Could be your network operator's problem, could also be a problem with the recipient's network operator. Both networks have to support the feature. Try with somebody else's SIM for an entirely different network - preferably after making sure that it works for them on their phone; assuming your device is SIM-unlocked.. if not, either unlock it (void warranty and whatnot) or just ask Cingular whether it's supported at all (good luck getting an answer beyond template replies)

Thanks for the reply. Well, I see your signature and I have the same device with the same ROM as yours. Do you have this problem ? Are you able to get delivery notifications. IF yes, then please let me know which provider to do connect to.
I tried calling cingular, and they were so dumb that they started giving me solutions like poweroff and on your phone etc. So i just had to cut it short with them.
I wish they had a technical support team.
well, sounds like you got fed "The Script" by cingular... a bunch of places with support sites have their people read a 'script'... it's long, tedious, and very often for people like 'us' who do know what they're doing it'll feel rather ridiculous and pointless. If it's a free number, though, walk through it - if nothing else they'll give you a case file at the end and somebody higher up to talk to. Could ask for the higher-up from the get-go, but they tend to ask you whether you did all the things the lower-down asked you to do, and if you say 'no' or 'yes' (lied), they just send you back
Anyway, on to your question...
Yep - it works fine for me. I'm using a Lebara Mobile SIM, which used to connect to the Telfort NL network, but appears to be connected to the O2 NL network at the moment. I've sent text messages to people in NL on Vodafone and Orange, to one person in the USA on Verizon and one person in Australia whose provider name I don't know They've always worked for me - always getting a "delivery notification" text message - typically just a few seconds after sending, though I've had it happen that it took several minutes as well.

This could well be the network as I had a similar problem when I was back in the UK recently and connected to O2. They don't support deliver confirmations on their network as standard but you could add a 4 digit sequence to each outgoing text message that would then give you a delivery message back. Pain in the ass but it was fine for the week I was back.
I'm on T-Mobile in the UK and I know you can prefix an SMS with *0# to get a delivery report issued. I'm using that quite a bit at the moment as the normal delivery report notifications don't seem to differentiate correctly between pending and fully delivered messages - i.e. on my Vario both report that the message has been delivered, which for a pending message is completely wrong.
Do other people get this problem too, by the way? Using *0# option you can get a full pending or a full delivered message, complete with the actual delivery time/date info and the system's message-ID number so you can match the pending report to the delivered item.
Andre
*0# didn't work on my Lebara (from PPC to old phone)
but it did work on Vodafone (from old phone to PPC)
funnily enough the *0# remains part of the text message on both ends
Edit: and looks like vodafone charged me an extra 3 eurocents for the service %)

Did you remember to leave a space after the # ?

Oh this is something I didnt know, so I should try it. Not sure whether cingular supports it or not but lets see. By the way when you say prefix an SMS, do you mean the number to whom we send the sms or the sms text ?
From v8Dave's response I guess you have to prefix the txt with this code. Can you confirm ?

With O2 you prefix your message with it and the network strips this off the message before sending to the recipient. Remember to add a space after it otherwise it does not work and the recipient gets the whole message with the *0# at the start.

Yep - tried that after googling around to see if I'm doing it wrong on the wizard and noticed that somebody mentioned that it was "star zero hash space".. still gets sent along %) Very odd
~ Z
On T-Mobile UK, the *0# (star zero hash) message prefix is correctly stripped off the message whether you use a space afterwards or not. You still lose 3 characters from your 160 maximum, though.
Could someone confirm whether they have the same problem as me with their normal Delivery Reports system though? i.e. when I send an SMS to a phone which is currently switched off, I get a "Delivered" report on my Vario almost immediately, and then another identical "Delivered" report whenever the SMS really is delivered to the recipient's phone. The first report should say "Pending", of course.
It works correctly when I use the *0# method, so I'm wondering whether the T-Mobile software in the Vario is re-wording the delivery report in some way, but getting it wrong for "Pending" status reports?

Every time I send an sms (after clicking on options and selecting SMS deliery report), I never get the report back, earlier (about 2 days ago, I used to), but since then, nothing. And I haven't added any new s/w or done anything to the phone. What could possibly be the reason? Any thoughts? Thanks.
well a thing like that could also be an issue with the phone company
O2 pay as you go never gives sms delivery receipts but if you type *0# in the "subj" box (below the number you are sending to) you will get them.
Thank you for your replies, appreciate the same. Did a soft reset and things are back to normal, sms delivery reports are now working.
Sorry to bring this up again but my Imate is still not receiving the sms delivery reports. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Is there any way to set the default to getting a delivery report?
I can't even find an option for a delivery report on the XDA II !!
Are you sure it's there in the options menu of the SMS prog ??
Ravi
Hi Ravi, the option for sms delivery notification is in the new sms screen, bottom left, edit, then options and then check the box. However in my case, even after doing that for all individual sms', I still dont' get delivery reports....used to get them initially about a week ago but nothing ever since....... anyone having this problem?
Vikas
Hi. I do not have a XDAII but still the XDAI. However, since flashed with WM2003, I do not get sms report either. I'm just wondering if it is not a WM2003 bug somewhere.
I'v never ever ever managed an sms receipt on XDA1
Has anyone managed an SMS delivery receipt on the original XDA? Maybe its down to the carrier not the phone. I'm on an O2 contract and it wont work at all!!

Hi, All I can say is I have been with O2 UK since 97, I have used Nokia 9000, 9110, 9210, 9210i, XDA, XDA2 and none of these phones will give you a SMS receipt. This is O2, not a fault on our phones.
The only way to get a receipt is at the start of your message is type *0#
O2 should really move with the times. We own one of the most advanced mobiles on the market and there support, leaves a lot to be desired.
StayLucky Regards Jim
Do O2 then charge you for the text reciept?
So all i have to do is type *O# (is that a zero or an oh?)
so start the message *O# then put a space and then typr the text?
Hopefully that will work then. No doubt O2 will fleece me and charge for the reciept!
Cheers for the info.

O2 Delivery reports
One word of warning with the *0# thing... people won't be able to reply to your texts! Dunno why this is, but whenever I send a text with delivery reports turned on, if someone tries to reply to my text it fails!!
You can reply to them!
Thanks for the warning Pope.
Just tested it out by sending a message to the missus' phone. I got a delivery report and she was able to reply direct!
Mind you hers is a vodafone so it might just be an O2 thing once again?
Cheers for the tip anyway; i shall only use the *0# thing.. on people I know once I have explained there may be a problem with replying.
By the way I notice that the reply says that it comes - from "joe bloggs" just as it would if you recieved a text from the person; if they were in your contacts list. Does that mean that the recipient is paying for the report?
The reason why O2 doesn't allow delivery reports is down to the sheer vloume of SMS that get sent via the network every day. Because of the Online accounts getting all the free SMS's (both P&G and Contract) along with the message bolt-on's and current 400 per month Retail offers on new connections, the network is saturated by SMS messages. Adding delivery reports would cripple the network completely. I have been told by O2 Dimensions that the daily amount of SMS sent each day over our network is 4 times that of the next competitors!!!!

Maybe it's just me with the problem, but when someone text messages me, and I press on the Reply icon, the reply won't go through once I send it. I manually have to go through my phonebook, find the person, and choose to text message them from there.
Anyone else having this problem?
This has happened to me with previous phones, I do not think it is a problem with the Magician...
The problem occurred on my SE P900 because the person who sent the SMS had a setting on their phone "Reply via same Message Centre" in their SMS settings. Seems some phones do not respect this setting (and reply using the default message centre number) meaning the text message is sent sucessfully... however, some phones (the P900 being one) do, and try to reply to the text using the SMS message centre number that the original text was sent via.
Now, this doesn't normally cause a problem, however, if you are on a network which has various message centre numbers (for contract, for pre-pay etc) then this is where the trouble can start.
O2 - UK is one of the offenders. They have a message centre number for contract users, and one for pre-pay users... however, for some unknown reason, they bar you from sending a text message via the other message centre... so, when my friend, with her Nokia 3410, on O2 pre-pay sent me a text, I couldn't reply to it, however, I could go in and make a new one and send it fine.
Ironically, I could reply to texts from other friends on completely different networks no problem, and I could reply to friends on O2 contract no problem!
Well, there's the theory... your situation might not be the exact same...
But anyway... the solution is to inform your friends to find the setting (in SMS settings) on their phone that looks like "Reply via same Message Centre" and set it to NO.
(Also note, Nokia 3410's sometimes do not have this setting available on them! I think the setting is stored on the SIM card, maybe, so you'd probably have to switch the SIM to another phone, change the setting, and switch it back.)
works for me if i delete all but the phone number in the "To" field after i choose "reply"
Can anyone configure the below app to work with WM5? below is the version for the older handsets.
even better, this one works on my Jasjar.
I tried this one; it works.
Just tried it on my mda pro, doesn't seem to work?
Why on earth would you possibly want to put this cab file onto the phone?
If you go into the Options for Text messages on the phone you tick the box that says request delivery notifications and you will get your delivery reports. Have you not had a look through the options or the manual yet?
yes but the i-mate handsets have never had the option to permenantly keep the Delivery report options on as with other normal handsets, and the above cab files resolve this issue so for every txt msg you send you dont ahve to go to options and select the check box.
For some reason, with the O2 xda Exec, even using the built-in delivery notification option, I don't receive delivery notification even when the text is delivered to another O2 phone. Any ideas?
Did this ever work before on any other handset?
As from what i know o2 dont support delivery reports, for some reason if your on o2 then you need to type *#0 and then your msg, then you will recieve a deliver report, well thats what i have to do on my o2 line.
That's terrible! I'm new to O2, and before on T-Mobile and Orange I could just tick the box. Any other way round it that changing the phone number?
You dont need to change the phone number, in your main msg you need to add the above as text in the beggining. Or you can quicken things up by adding it as a 'My text' feature within the phone.
I understand now, thanks, however if I send a message and the text is, for example:
*#0Hello
The other person receives a text message with "*#0Hello" in it and I get no report back :?
CJS try *0#<space> then your message
Nope, no good already tried it
CJS I've just sent a message using "*0#" and it works no problem mate
Oh! ump001 said "*#0" and then when you said try it with a space I didn't notice you'd corrected it to "*0#". That works just fine, even without a space. Cheers!
Ouch though, all those tests with the wrong code really hit my credit

O2 simply don't have delivery reports as per standard on their network. The only way to do it is with the *0# option in the Subject title (thereby ensuring you have the "space"...

CJSnet; sorry, I'm on T-mobile. Delivery reports working fine for me, but I know that KPN NL doesn't support them. I always get a message back that sending was succesfull, even when I know that the phone I'm sending the message is turned off...
Anyway, to go short: I don't have experience with O2
I've never really understood why o2 have to be different and be the only network not to have delivery reports. Could it be cost???? come on o2 stop being cheap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi all,
This topic started in 'general' but would be better placed here. If anyone has any more input please reply here - I think this is currently the biggest problem with the out-the-box v1605.

I sent an email to HTC today and they told me there is no update...
This is still an issue
It apparently seems that the problem is only for Vodafone or Vodafone Group (SFR for example) users.
Any update on this issue ? This is really annoying....
Nothing I have heard yet. Apparently 242 mail notification works - but to sign up for this you have to get a code sent as SMS - and guess what - this SMS never turns up too!!!
R
I upgraded to the new HTC ROM but this has made no difference to the voicemail SMS issue
R
You can register at http://www.vodafone.net where you can set your alerts to be delivered by SMS. You need to enter your phone number for it to send a service SMS containing a passcode to, so you need to have your SIM a phone that you can get them on, ie not your v1605!! Once you've done that, you can put your SIM back into your v1605 and you'll then get SMS alerts for your voicemails and even the little answerphone icon in your top bar!!

I have finally taken this to the step of raising a technical ticket with Vodafone. After 3 days they came back to me saying it was definately the v1605 handset However, in order to try everything they are replacing my 5 year old SIM with a new one to see if that helps.
Hopefully this will at least solvev the problem of the vodafone,et registration SMS messsages not making it to my SIM no matter what phone it is on. At least then I can move to 242 instead....

as Matho indicates above, i have the v1605 as well as the Tytn and i have subscribed to 242 which now gives me voicemail text and icon.....
follow my thread indicated above, it's not the sim, it's the way the hermes variants handle the 'silent' sms texts that vodafone use for voicemail on their older 121 service
with 242 you can still even dial 121 from home or abroad and still pick up the same messages!! the voicemail icon and text service on 242 is much better than text or (annoying) dial every 3 seconds with vodafone 121
This is driving me mad - could not get the vodafone.net registration to work (it never delivers the autentication SMS) and my 121 has now also stopped 'alerting and delivering'. Vodafone sent me a new SIM but this has had no affect. I have tried the new SIM in a K750i but nothing. However, put my other (personal) vodafone SIM in my TyTN and I get the authentication SMS through straight away??? Could this be something to do with my main number being a business number and not a personal one?

I know it will not help, but my vodafone sim was also a business one and it worked 1st time
I haven't looked, but is there a way to repeat the signup process by selecting a 'forgotten password' option on the vodafone.net site? then put the sim into your k750 just at the point that the site sends out the sms confirmation.....I used a windows smartphone to get my sms so if you can get it on that I am sure the k750 will !
I hope you can get it work, it is a fantastic service
The problem is the same with all operators, it is a problem on the ROM. The only solution will be a ROM upgrade...
Suddenly at 22:00 last night I had 7 SMS messages come through - each with their own authentication string!!! Some 10 hours after my first attempt of the day. I went back to vodafone.net and registered again - worked first time. I am not ure if Vodafone did anything or maybe my new SIM neeed some time????
ALSO - it worked using the TyTN to recieve the authentication SMS - did NOT have to use another phone! I now have SMS notification and the *new* voicemail icon - excellent!
Rich (much happier)
Most excellent advice !
Subscribed last night and get text messages and the voicemail icon, even when roaming abroad now too !
Thanks all.
Just to add my two-pence worth to this subject.
I've just spent ages trying to sort out this problem!
I've got a v1605 on vodafone.....
I signed up to www.vodafone.net email, fax and voicemail facility (and managed to get the security SMS through ok) and all was looking good with my new mail/voicebox until I left myself a voicemail.
I got a SMS through saying I had a new voicemail to listen to, and the little O_O......I phoned 242 (or hit dial on the popup message), and was told I had no new messages  - and as previous people have said the notification O_O wouldn't go away!!
As I soon discovered, dialing 242 on my mobile wasn't going through to the new service, it was going through to my old voicemail. If I dial my new voicemail box number (0788... number which I was given when signing up to vodafone.net) and press 9, and enter my PIN, I was taken through to the CORRECT mailbox, which had my message in it. After I heard that, the notification icon on the phone disappeared.
So for some reason dialing 242 isn't going through to the correct mailbox....I'm wondering whether this is something which will take a few hours to resolve.
I'll try again tomorrow, but if anyone has a solution let me know
Cheers people
you need to change the default number in the phone options.
goto phone, options, services, voicemail, get settings
in the voicemail box, I had 121 and still have but it seems to go through fine if it is on 242.......
each vodafone customer has a unique mobile number for answermachine but we can all access via 121 or 242....it was designed to use abroad when 121 was not always available, but most countries now support the use of 121 / 242
but, you may have noticed when you signed up at vodafone.net that you were given a new answer number (i think you can check it on the log in page).....if you are travelling where you can't get 121/242 or simply you have got used to entering your pin, put the new number in the voicemail settigs box in the phone app
hope it helps!
I updated my voicemail number to 242 in the phone settings.
I just tried 242 again, and it still goes through to the OLD 121 voicemail.
Hi Guys, i do not have a vodafone subscription so i don't have your problem. But i know there is some feature in wm5 where you can use incoming sms messages that meet given filter criteria to trigger a send/receive for an email account and collect your mail. thus an sms notification for new mail can be used to create a form of pushmail. if the sms message meets the filter criteria, you will never see the sms message. it just starts silently to get your email
on this link http://www-rocq.inria.fr/who/Arnaud.Porterie/projects/PushMail/
you will find a program that can make these settings. Could it be the case that on your phones this sms filter is activated by default for sms messages coming from your voicemail number but with no action attached to is. this could explain why messages vapourize
if this is the case perhaps you could switch this feature of with the program in the attachted link.
I have managed to get the Voicemail SMS Alerts to work.
I followed the link and regsitered and i recieved the sms with the code on my Voda Tytn and it did say it will take upto 24 hours.
I tested it and left a VM and it still did not work.
As i had errors, i ended up reflashing my phone again with the latest dopod version and did not modify the extended rom.
as soon as it booted up, i got the alert and it seems to working fine now.
I also managed to get all the Vodafone Connection Settings Back.

O2 don't handle delivery reports in the same way as other networks.
You can get round this my putting *0# at the beginning of your text message. It's invisible to the recepient, but tells the GSM network to send you a delivery report.
