I too have been hoping to have this. Unfortunately I don't think it exist yet on on the WM5 platform. I have so many websites that I wish I would access using our device but just have to go back to my desktop. An example of such a website would be www.fxstreet.com where I want to look at the graphs of real time exchage rate movement. When directed to the Sun Microsystem's website for Java Update, it would simply says that they do not have a version that support my operating system platform. This problem is similar to not being able to directly play youtube movies on the website because their version of flash player is always newer than what is available on WM5 environment.

Because it`s actually a beta (not a trial - sorry, I ought to have used the right word). Java is an external application and I assume either they have to pay a licence fee for it or they know that it already works (hence doesn`t need to be in the beta).
it has been the same for each beta. There should be a trial of 3.3 which does include java.

To be honest i get most sites down but i did a search for java based sites and found sites that would not work like (www.webcamnow.com) just to really test the system. Perhaps none of the current browsers will load such sites, am i asking too much from a small operating system.

Best Browser?

Hi,
what you guys this is the best web browser for HTC Touch?
I think the Picsel Browser is very good.
Pls. tell us your best browser.
Thanks!
I've been using Opera.
I think opera mini right now but I think skynet or opera mobile 9 soon will be in the coming months. Both promising full browsing and skynet will be free
I think you mean skyfire browser.
Can some one tell me the difference between:
Picsel and Opera?

Yeah, no Skynet browser please. We turn over control of our web browsing to them and before you know it they'll be self aware and launching our nukes against us. Judgment day. Then they'll activate Arnold to come back in time and kill you, because you are the future leader of mankind.
Ahhh, which browser
I actually like all of them IE, Opera, NetFront...
I have found that depending on the particular website, one will work better than the other. IE works just fine for a lot of websites and has the best compatibility. Opera is great for certain websites that IE just can't display properly. NetFront works best on (poorly written) websites that have too many damn frames and cutsie html features that only impress the person who made the website. The beauty is you can install and use more than one browser to make sure you get into the websites you need. (iPhone can't do that...) I, btw, need to link into my work with Citrix and the Touch is the only phone I know that can do it. I am the envy of my colleagues at work!

Have you checked out the video preview of Opera Mobile 9.5. It looks great and the notes says it supports flash, unfortunately they didn't demo that in the video.

Incidentally, I just loaded No2Chem's WM6.1clean ROM and IE seems to do everything better and faster.

[Q] Witch IE version do we have?

Hi folks!
Reading some threads about IE6 coming embedded into some new ROMs, I noticed I've got my machine with both Opera and IE, but I've not been able to "check" my IE version (not 6 indeed as it's different from videos posted in YouTube).
Is there any way to determine te current version?
Is there any way to upgrade?
Flashing a new ROM just to get IE6 looks overwhelming, not to mention if you have to change your device language on the go.
Opera has not solved my browsing needs, I still have to use my Tablet PC for "serious" browsing. Maybe not that long?
Any ideas or news?
Regards.
all WinMo 6 and 6.1 come with Pocket IE4 (the etch-a-sketch of mobile browsers)
this is what Touch HD ships with
FYI - WinMo with pocket IE 6 is labeled as version 6.1.4
and it will not be better than Opera

Anyway, it looks like IE6 Mobile supports flash and java, this actually is better that what Opera performs.
No matter how "nice" Opera is, it falls short on "basic" issues, like flash.
I don't mind the manufacturer, but my needs go beyond current browsers. In fact my Terra web-mail doesn't work.
Regards.
Hi,
If IE 6.0 really provides full Flash support it'd be a very good alternative to Opera Missing Flash is my biggest (ONLY) disappointment since acquiring my first Pocket PC...

Rolf
Blame Adobe for not delivering full flash-plugin for Windows Mobile. Opera supports some basic flash if u install FlashLite.
New IE wont probably come officially for there days devices, as Microsoft have said that it will require some "next generation" hardware.

This is too basic, a half-way only. It's extremelly unstable (at least in my experience, I was forced to uninstall Flash Lite after so many hangs-up) and also not fully supported: Flash buttons calling a new frame are displayed but they are not operational. This is just a too limited embedded Flash player, not really very functional....

IT'S BEING DELIVERED right now on new Asian HD roms, so our current machines should be enough. Isn't?

Has anyone got embedded flash content working?

I have read several threads on this subject, but the issue still appears to be largely unresolved...
Can you access embedded flash content within Opera using a stock ROM?
Only solution appears to be using Skyfire unless someone can tell me different?
Thanks to clarify...
Bump... I'll take that as a 'no' then?
use skyfire that resolves the embedded flash problem, other browsers are hit and miss at this time, macromedia hasnt developed a working flash application that doesnt work sparingly, flash lite works but only on some sites not all
I keep being told that Flash is a feature of the new Opera and is rife on the HD, so whats the problem?

I'm referring to content like the embedded videos on the BBC website. If you try and play them on a stock ROM it points you to download Flash. Having done this the Adobe website says that the device is not supported...
I did download a mobile version of FlashPlayer but it seems to have made little or no difference.
Skyfire is okay, but I reckon it needs some refinement to be at its best for the HD.
Ho hum...

Why isn't anyone adding Skyfire as the default browser....

Why isn't anyone adding Skyfire as the default browser on any of these ROMS? Just asking. I've heard great things about Skyfire but I'm guessing you guys must know something that I don't. I'm sure there has to be a reason. Would it work with the Push Internet function on Rhodium?
When I had my smartphone I used skyfire all the time, but when I started using HTC devices skyfire just looked crappy to be honest. Its pretty low resolution and opera looks soo much better.
Yup yup!
Low res
Crappy looking
I ONLY use it for flash player to stream videos off websites.
i knew there was a reason.
but does Opera support flash and play videos on as many sites as Skyfire?
Robes1,
Opera doesn't support flash, but you can stream off it. I have Coreplayer so when I click on a video off a website like youtube. Coreplayer would open up and play the video. Unlike Skyfire it would open right from the site and play.
I have a different problem, ive had my TP2 for 2 days now and flashed my first ever rom onto a phone just last night (thanks to the great walkthrough on this site)
So I went to put skyfire on my phone but when I go to the skyfire site on my phone it tells me it's not compatible with my phone? I don't think I'm doing something right. I downloaded the skyfire software to my computer, same with google maps, and I guess I just dont know how to add applications to my phone. I couldn't find a walkthrough on how to add apps through any faq or with the search function (including google searching lol)
I apologize for being such a noob but can anyone help? I imagine adding an app should be as simple as clicking dragging and setting up but I guess I'm just not technologically smart enough to grasp this. Any help would be appreciated!
make sure that you are installing the cab file. If I remember correctly, you can download a pc installer and a cab file. the cab file is what you install on the phone. I use skyfire all the time even though it looks terrible on my beautiful TP2 screen.

hmm... Silverlight's great and all, but I see it being used more for interactive applications than passive media. I thought that skyfire wasn't being built for games?
roms not having manila folder
about everyone adding opera as default browser having it embedded in the rom is a bit of a pain. it seems that a lot of them are removing the manila folder out from application data folder and also removing the internetportal.xml file. that file was able to be edited and have you launch whatever browser you wanted from the internet tab in touchflo3d. only rom i have found that still has this folder and file is Romeos rom v1.04 which is available to download. u can then go here http://www.fuzemobility.com/how-to-change-the-tf3d-default-browser/ and make skyfire your default. works with romeo rom

Opera runs smoother than Skyfire, Stick with Opera.
A short time back Skyfire did come out with a version that greatly improves the resolution on VGA and WVGA devices.
Skyfire uses a proxy server. So your data all travels to and from someone elses storage. There is the potential of them collecting personal info on you. Not that I'm paranoid, but it is a good reason for a manufacturer not to build it into a device.
Skyfire tends (IMHO) to not handle a lot of different web sites. I have more issues with it then Opera.
But I keep it installed in case I want to visit a flash enabled site.
It looks ugly and it doesn't use the zoom bar.
Wait, so it supports silverlight? Does that mean I can watch netflix on my phone?

Skyfire 1.5 is nicer to look at and will allow you flash on over 90% of the internet sites.
if it worked with games i would be all over it, otherwise my broswer of choice is opera mini.
i've noticed most flash content on websites are in the form of advertisement anyway lol
This is the latest and greatest skyfire for tp2.. its a close 2nd to opera.. looks nice now and loads quicker.. Enjoy!
