I don't know why this setting can solve this problem (May be).
Go to
start > Setting > Connection > USB to PC
Step:
1. Uncheck USB to PC
2. Start > Setting > System > Screeen > Calibration the Alignment of Screen
3. Soft Reset.
My friend also use CHT9000 (Taiwan Version) and told me this method. After the above mentioned adjustment, not alignment problem up to this moment.
I also use this method. 2 days gone, no alignment problem was found. I will keep to update this post in the future.
Hope it can help.

There is a thread or two about this on the general side or somewhere.
"Search" will work fine.
I tought it is working but not.
I have contacted with the local HTC/QTEK partner.
Waiting for the official solution.
BR,
Joe
I think that I may have a proper fix. my alignment seemed to be fixed by a rom upgrade but has been getting prgressively worse for a few days. Last night I tried something hardware based. I will test this for two days before I will say what it is but I have had no misalignment issue in the few hours since I did it.

could you post what you did so even if it doesnt work, we would know?

Ok it hasn't shifted at all today!
I was going to open it up to have a look at the rubber gasket that was mentioned in another post but chickened out!
Optional but probably a good idea; turn off and remove the battery.
1) Slide keyboard out and turn face down.
2) There are 2 tiny screws on the back of the screen that need to be undone. They have thread lock on them so a small crack will be heard as it releases.
3) Once the screws are out a further small crack noise may be heard. That'll be the tension being taken off the screen!
4) Put the screws back in and tighten (or should that be TyTN?). Do not over tighten these as it is only plastic.
5) If necessary realign the screen (hopefully for the last time)
As kind of proof that this has worked, this post was made from my v1605 on hsdpa while I was talking on the phone using bluetooth and got very hot and didn't need any realigning!
Hope it works for others!
Phil
I have the O2 Trion and my screen will be slight misaligned at the right side (cant use the vert scroll bar) . Is this exactly your problem ?
Does your problem happened again, if not could you post some pic/steps on how you did it ?
Thanks

as long as there is no excessive used here, that is what you mean right?

You're correct. Before I did this one screw was clearly at an angle and afterwards it was straight.
If anyone else has success let me know and I'll try to get some photos and do a how-to on the wiki.

i tried this out for my friend and he claims that while it did fix the alignment problem on the right side, sometimes the screen becomes slightly misaligned. could be that i tightened a bit too hard so will look into this.
I'll try to get some photos and do a how-to on the wiki.

When I did it for my friend, he claims that the screen, while does not have as serious an alignment problem as before, still has it. Its not that bad.
He notices that the problem usually comes after making a call. No matter how long the call (whether for 1 min or 40 mins), the screen will be slightly mis-aligned and needs to be re-aligned. Things like pressing the 'ENTER' button on the phone pad does not work unless he presses a certain part of the button.
Any advice for him?
low45,
I undone the 2 screws but hear no click or crack and return it back not so tight... is that the correct way... I will monitor mine, since it only happening once a day..
Though I do not hv one but I can inform that it is the bad quality of work..this has been happening to all the recent G4 Wizards and Prophets with SZ series serial number.
I think thehardware design has gone wrong..
Pls check yr serial number..if they start from HT or SZ
i think all the HTC Hermes manufactured are of the HT version
screw no help
ok... after a day.. it happened again...
I just hard reset and did not load the extROM last night... let see ..
me i go back to change it
i have HT630xxxx and no probleme
am trying to write a script, using mortscript so that it'll perform the screen alignment automatically. So far i can only get to the stage where it'll get to the screen alignment, where i'd then have to use the stylus to get the screen aligned.
Was hoping for more inputs from others as to how we can resolve this.
This is what i have so far:
<script>
run \windows\screen.lnk
WaitForActive "Settings",5
MouseClick "Settings",170,160
Sleep 100
GetWindowText 20,20
MouseClick"Settings",120,160
<This portion onwards does not work>
Sleep 100
MouseClick"Align Screen",20,20
<end script>
the error i get is reading back the Windows text, presumably because its not a window.
would appreciate any tip.
For simulation purposes, you'll have to create the lnk as such (JIC)
<link>
20#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,7?\windows\cplmain.cpl,-5080
<end link>
Thanks in advance
Wow...I am so exciting about this... Let's god make this workkkk
Maybe you can just write a script to over-write the regitry values, since the actual calibration values are in the registry. The location is
\HKLM\Hardware\DeviceMap\Touch\CalibrationData (string)
There are five sets of values with a space between each set:
1st - Centre
2nd - Portrait Top Left
3rd - Portrait Bottom Left
4th - Portrait Bottom Right
5th - Portrait Top Right
The sets of values are measured from the Top Right with the first value being across, second being down (i.e. -x, -y). Ever since making a backup of a set of "good" values I have been over-writing the current values with that. Maybe all we Hermes users can compare our values and see if the screens are really that inconsistant. Mines are:
491,525 732,229 726,817 239,810 246,226
502,524 770,224 777,810 242,807 242,225
530,513 765,228 761,809 274,800 277,217
wouldn't it be much easier to replace your hardware? This is a known issue, and HTC is swapping the bad units out...

I have heard this but is there anything in writing? I sent mine back (vendor) for screen alignment and they can not duplicate the issue - go figure
I know a guy in Taiwan who sent his CHT9000 back but got it returned without any replacement in hardware, Taiwan CHT (telco) simply flashed a newer ROM and hard-reset. There are numerous debate on whether this is a hardware issue or a software one, in my case it seems to be software.
First I tried a suggestion on this forum to loosen the two screws on the back, didn't help. Then tried the 'tape to shield magnet trick' under the keyboard, didn't help either. Then changed the unit and even tried the Dopod 838Pro/Dopod CHT9000/O2 trion, all had the same problem after a week of use. Lastly flashed the CHT9000 to the 838pro ROM posted on the FTP, also didn't help.
When I started to play around with the calibration data and manually playing around with the numbers, everything seems fine and has been running for about a week now without any problems.

I did - over the weekend. 3:20 Tuesday afternoon and no response yet.
It doesn't make sense for you to contact HTC directly. They are not set up for enduser support, and they don't know you from a hole in the wall. It's not at all surprising that you haven't heard anything... chances are you won't... ever!
Your best bet is to go through the reseller from whom you bought the phone. They're the ones that can easily facilitate any exchanges and/or service....
This is why picking the right supplier is so important!

Hi,
I already posted this in another thread. I wrote to HTC and got a response rather quickly. They wrote:
Good Morning,
We are aware of issues with the touchscreen losing alignment on a few early batches of TyTN devices. This does appear to be a hardware issue which has been solved and no longer appears on the devices.
Obviously, we have no way of controlling how long a device is stocked before it is sold, either by our distribution channel, or in the case of network devices, how long the networks take to customise their devices before releasing them.
As the device you have ordered is an O2 XDA Trion, any warranty would be with O2 and not with HTC. I would suggest that if you are unlucky enough to get one of the devices that does suffer from this issue, simply return it to the retailer or O2 for a replacement.
As the device is an O2 Trion rather than an HTC TyTN, I am afraid I will have to refer you to O2 for future support on the device. We do not currently support network devices due to the legal agreements in place over the customisation of their devices.
Best regards,

Well I'm not sure about the part with the "early batches" but anyway I wanted to share this with you.

This is a strange problem to say the least.
Had M3100 for a month
first two weeks no screen issues
then a 24 hour period or so where realignment as needed every time the device was turned on
then ok for a week
then 2 days of frequent realignments again
now ok for 3 days
I hope you can get this script to work, although my latest sure way of realignment is to go into standby
run my finger around the perimeter of the screen, power on - sorted!!
mine is:
495,514 690,232 706,811 271,804 294,227

dhave attached installation cabs that will auto configure the screen alignment by inserting the above string in. I do hope that this is global.
Could some test the attached zips to see whether you're alignment runs.
Thanks.
If not so, do inform us, and to resolve the issue, goto \programs\mortscript\ and open ScreenAlignReg.mscr in a text editor.
Now just insert your values at the end of the first line (don't forget the inverted commas .
In anycase, please do a backup before trying this. Hate to be the one that cause your device to fail
Have noticed that the device will not boot up once the reg keys are inserted this way. Have to HR. Have since changed the syntax abit, but still to no avail. Does anyone else have this issue.
*EDIT* tried this script with a clean system. After the writeback was done, i reset and i couldn't get out of the boot phase. Had to HR. As such, am deleting the zip and would recommend that we refrain from using this method.
With reference to Post #1, if anyone can enlighten me on what the Window text is for the Screen Alignment, i can set the keytaps, to simulate recalibration.
The attached zip contains ver 0.2, a stopgap.
Instead of writing directly to registry in mortscript, am now (thanks Gohyc for the idea) rewriting via a .reg file. The "cal.reg" file will be installed in \programs\mortscript\. You can edit the .reg file to include your "figures"
Major limitations, it requires Resco File Explorer, and will run correctly only in portrait mode.
But for those of us who have it works fine. Stable and reliable.
Meanwhile for the mortscripters,
1. could someone tell me the Window Text for Screen alignment is.
2. don't think there's anything wrong in the syntax below:
RegWriteString HKLM,HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\TOUCH,CalibrationData,"511,520 765,234 759,799 250,806 "
much appreciated
*Version 0.2.1 has been uploaded. Script now has longer delays, and thus far runs more true. (these delays unnoticeable by the end user).
cal.reg file included contains this key:
CalibrationData="491,516 756,221 757,805 233,801 236,220 "

I tried this strange but beautifully simple method today and so far it has worked great.
Thanks Daddyo!
had a screen misalignment.
Since i've mapped it to a keypress, once run, i had to turn off my device for about 20sec, before everything was realigned.
Do notice that sometimes the wait is not enough and it won't auto dismiss itself.
I have since increased the time out delay. For those brave souls that have tried this script, do you have the same problem. Do you need me to increase the timeout.
Am awaiting any feedback. Thanks
Day two after doing Daddyo's finger lap method and alignment problem has not recurred.
My problem had gotten progressively worse to the point where I was re-calibrating several times a day but so far, rock solid.
Could this be static-related?
HTC insists it is hardware as in this message from them:
There are now procedures in place for fixing the Screen alignment issue with the TyTN devices. This is a hardware issue that we have identified and we are offering a replacement to owners of affected devices with two conditions.
1: The device must be returned with all accompanying accessories.
Everything that was in the box when you bought the device must be in the box when you return it.
2: The device must be a Genuine HTC Badged device. This means that the device cannot be a Vodafone v1605, an O2 XDA Trion, a T-Mobile Vario II or any other device based on the TyTN, but that is not actually a TyTN. For these devices, you must contact the Network/Reseller for further advice on this issue.
If you meet these two provisions, you may contact your nearest repair centre to arrange the swap. Please place everything back into the original box and arrange to have the device picked up. It will then be tested to confirm that it has the problem, and then it will be swapped for a replacement unit.
If you are unable to return everything, you will be eligible for a repair under the warranty.

Hello to everybody...
Member "Chaos42" has updated Wiki , he said that all problems with Tytn has been solved :
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=RecentChanges
He wrote that devices with Serial HT633 has got not problems.
Would you please "Chaos42" tell Us why you think so ? Have you tested a Tytn with this serial ? For how many days ?
As i read here :
www.mobile01.com/topicdetail.php?f=61&t=202144
seems that Tytn(s) with serial beginning with HT634 (that is greater that HT633) are not bug free..Language is Chinese, you can translate it with "Google's tools for languages".
Guys , i'm disoriented...Let's start talking about this news.
Bye!
Hello everybody,
is recieved my replacement unit five days ago. It is an TytN HT633xxx, ROMVers: 1.18.257.2 (07/22/06), Radio: 1.03.03.10, Protocol: 32.34.7010.01H, EXTROMVer: 1.18.257.105
and i have to say this device feels diferent/better then my old HT628 TyTN. The Keyboard feels more solid, the screenaligment problem has not occured once since i am using my device, and the most obvious thing was that the new battery was not fully coverd with a white plastic, but had a metalplate on the bottom instead. Alle buttons work as expected (also on the keyboard), the device is not getting hot when using wlan and the battery seems to last longer. So i am pretty happy with my new TyTn.
If there is anything you want to know or want me to check, feel free to ask
Thank you chaos42 for your reply... I was a little "suspicious" in my post because i've seen your Wiki's upgrade but i've not seen any your post in this forum before about Tytn and you registered your account only yesterday...So i thougt that this was a new Htc's commercial strategy to sell Tytn that seems to have,at the moment, many bugs.
What can you say us about :
1. During battery charge Tytn getting hot ?
2. This HT633 Tytn is in your hands since ?
3. Wi-fi range is good or poor ?
4. Screen switch from portrait to landscape when Tytn is in his guard or when keyboard is "opened" ?
5. The guard is like the previous or is a new one without magnet ? (The magnet seems to cause alignment and orientation issue to the display)
6. Any freeze problem ?
At the moment you and "randomelements" owns the most recent devices...let us to stay tuned on your tests...Thanks in advance.
Hi,
how did you get the new one? Did you replace it for free thru HTC support?
thanks

I dont work for HTC nor i am in any way related to HTC
For the last ten years i was a heavy and loyal palmuser so, i stayed away from ppc-forums
the tytn is my first ppc device...
1: This was my problem with my old HT628 especialy when charging and using wlan at the same time. This problem is completly gone. This is maybe related to the new design of the battery, with the metalplate on the bottom. And for me the battery lasts now about 30% longer.
2: five days, playing a lot with it
3: its slightly better, but i only tested it at home, so i have to do some more tests
4: the screen still keeps switching when i take it out of the case, because of the magnets in that damm case. When using the keyboard the screen switches as expected, no more freezeing during screenswitch
5: still the one with magnets
6: no freezing until now, no need for a softreset since i got it
cheers,

Yes, the friendly support told me that during the first 4 weeks they replace it for free. I just called them to ask if its normal that the device gets pretty hot during charging especialy when using wlan at the same time. She said, she has to ask, but after mentioning my screen alignment problems she said i will get a replacement unit, and i should send it in as soon as possible because its a know hardware issue.
I also called the repairecenter in germany, just because i wanted to know how long it will take, and after i said that i got the screen aligment issue, they laughed and told me i will get a replayment unit for sure. four days later i had my new tytn. thumps up for the htc support!
Hello,
Only to say that the initial TyTN Spanish version is:
ROMVers: 1.18.262.2 (07/22/06)
Radio: 1.03.03.10
Protocol: 32.34.7010.01H
EXTROMVer: 1.18.262.105
1. During battery charge Tytn getting hot ? >>> NO
2. This HT633 Tytn is in your hands since ? >>> 2 weeks
3. Wi-fi range is good or poor ? >>> Poor (my Qtek 9100 has better range)
4. Screen switch from portrait to landscape when Tytn is in his guard or when keyboard is "opened" ? >>> YES, like the Qtek 9100, because de magnet (if you put the magnet near the camera buttón screen change, there is a magnetic swith inside)
5. The guard is like the previous or is a new one without magnet ? (The magnet seems to cause alignment and orientation issue to the display) >>> The guard is like the Qtek 9100's, 4 magnets, but leather.
6. Any freeze problem ? >>> NO

So MacPac you think the magnets in the case are causing the screen alignment issue? Because any magnet powerful enough to effect a switch inside the device cant be having good effects on the screen alignment, is that a logical notion?
Just updated the wiki to include HT634 (HERM300). only issue I've noticed is that some of the keys aren't as responsive as the others. Does anybody else have this version and experiencing similar issues or do I have a duff unit?

hello there!
in the last days my touchscreen calibration seems to go away very often, any idea why?!!
i need to recalibrate now nearly daily
Try this - dont't insert stylus at Magican, just leave it separately.
I use another pen-stylus and from that moment my Magican stops recallibration
I hope you'll understand me
i fail to see the connection between putting the stylus in its holder and recallibration
I see
I think it means use a different stylus than the built in one.
I find a finer point onthe stylus helps a bit. I also read somewhere that pushing a thin business card aroud the inside of the screen sdge helps clear debris which can cause the problem.
In my experience, it can be a deteriorating problem and is hardware based - that means a new touchscreen - about $20 on ebay I think but I don't know how to do it. Last time my Magician failed int his way it went back to HTC under warranty and they replaced the touchscreen for me.
Hope this helps.
i am the same... there is no sensor that checks if i put my stylus in the hole or there is no sensor or radio connection between the stylus and the magician that sees what stylus is interacting with my phone...
i cant see the point. but thanx for answering
i guess, there should be a file that keeps the settings and maybe this file is dissappearing all the time?

Don't use original stylus for a few days - just for test
I think that the screen decalibrates when I insert and remove stylus to/from hole. Why? - I don't know
The reason of a strange event - touchscreen loses its calibration because of inserting/removing stylus - is there's a design fault of Magician.
Stylus brushes against the flat wire (connecting touchscreen with a device's motherboard) while being inserted or removed.
This wire, which is located right under the stylus rug, is about 1.5 cm width and is 60-pinned. So a slight shift of even one pin can harm the touchscreen connection
How to change the sensitivity of the screen ?
I want it to be more sensitive to finger touches so i dont have to apply any pressure on the screen to register a "click."
Is there any way to change this ?
I heard somewhere that when you calibrate the screen, it not only calibrates where you touch the screen, but also how much pressure you apply? Is that true anyone?
Seems true to me, barely takes any pressure for me to use the touch screen.
I had the same problem wen I formatted my phone again, I had to calibrate the phone again and it worked perfectly.

That is AFAIK true.
To recalibrate, go to Start -> Settings -> choosing the system tab -> tap the screen icon.
There, you can recalibrate where you touch the screen and how much pressure you apply to the touches.
Thanks guys.
Just tried to re-calibrate the screen with little pressure by my clicks, and it works better now.
To recalibrate, go to Start -> Settings -> choosing the system tab -> tap the screen icon.

My X1a arrived from a previous owner without the stylus working, so I'm hopeful that calibrating the screen will remedy the problem like it has for so many (altho a handset problem is still a possibility).
However, before I do (which will be after work today), I was hoping to hear why, or how anyone could screw it up, so that I could either troubleshoot the current problem, or minimally not screw up the procedure myself.
This is my 1st smartphone so pardon the newbish query ...

Thanx Squidgy ... my search tumed up this thread only, altho your thread seems to be more about an alternate procedure, and does come up short on why or how anyone could screw up the primary procedure(?)
Edit: I also could have been more clear ... ie, finger touch seems to work well, while my stylus does not ... and that's a bit of a mystery to me(?)

I Have found that if you calibrate with finger, then stylus doesnt work so good but if you calibrate gently with stylus, then finger and stylus works far better
try it

Thanx Flub!
My own approach to the procedure (called an alignment) took me around the screen several times. I don't know if it was trying to acquire some minimum threshold of satisfaction, but I might imagine it leading some users to pressing harder and harder. Your suggestion was an impetus for using soft touches only, and the result is a stylus touch that is now very sensitive.

I don't understand what you mean "this post is old"...
The methods described in the post work, and I can't see any other newer versions of that softtouch, apart from the softtouch keyboard which is a completely different app.
As for why you would want to use the 2nd procedure (I don't know how you could bugger up a .cab installation), personally I prefer a quick clean reg edit to installing a cab. But each to their own.
