Is there an app available that will allow me to diable or enable GPRS usage ? I would like to use GPRS when im out and about, but dont want my phone doing things like connect to GPRS if I forget to sign out of messenger when ive been using wifi. When the phone switches itself off, it will connect via GPRS and download any messages emails.
I have put some dummy accounts in to stop it connecting but it keeps coming up with unknown application errors then although it does stop it costing me any download allowance / money.
Anyone ?

Maybe you did not get an anwer because you posted it in friday the 13th
But I want the same.
I am going abroad later this month, and I don't want any program to connect via GPRS.
It just costs too much.
So does anyone have a solution to disable connection by GPRS?
Hi all. All you do is press and hold the call end button for a few seconds and GPRS will be switched off.

I think you are mistaking the question.
If you press the Call End button for a few seconds, it indeed will end the GPRS session.
For that moment.
But if an application want to connect, it reconnects with GPRS just that easily.
And that's what you are afraid of, when roaming.
I really want to control the GPRS connection, off or on.
I use SPB GPRS Monitor. It adds a Icon to the menu bar at the top. You just tap on it, tap connect, and there you go. You can disconnect also. The program is skinnable as well! Moreover, it monitors your GPRS usage so you know when Vodafone is over charging you
cya
I also use GPRS monitor, but that's not the issue here.
I know how to disconnect, but I don't want GPRS to connect automatically, whatever condition.
Just do not connect via GPRS unless I tell the wizard to do so.
i know how you can do it!!!! Close messager and you will not have the problem!!!!! does not take brains! If you cant do that why the heck do you have a phone like this, which must be really too high tech for you!

Oh, okay....no clue in that case
The best way would be not to save the password to the connection, so it asks for it each time. That will stop it connecting, but it is inconvenient
Hope that helps

Hmm, this is no fun-man.
I ask a normal question, so please give a normal answer.
I have pushmail, newsreader, weatherpanel, Messenger and maybe some more progs who connect automatically over GPRS.
In holland that's no problem because I have a flat fee abo.
But when I go abroad I have to disable each and every application by hand.
(Roaming GPRS is sooo expensive )
So this device is definately not too high tech for me, but I am looking for an easy solution and that's to control GPRS by hand.
One program does it all for you:
Vijay555's VJVolubilis program!
Google search for Vijay555. Go to Releases. He's got a bunch of software written by him (a BIG THANK YOU to Vijay - Viva la ViJay!)
Instructions:
- Install cab file.
- Create a shortcut (using Ilauncher or any other programs that allows you to) and change the properties to wot you need
- In your case, use the properties - -gprson or -gprsoff or -gprstoggle
- You can set one icon to turn GPRS on and one to turn GPRS off in case you're worried about toggling it on instead of off.
Works great for me.
And don't forget to donate to Vijay!
Hope that helps.
Thanx, that's really looking promising.
It seems exactly what I was looking for.
I will test this prog asap.
i have been looking for a prog like this so I do not get price raped when my gprs drops out...I will test it out thanks.
hi, got a HTC kaiser last week, was working fine, internet, email, tomtom.
but a few days ago i put an orange sim card in and now half the time i try to access the internet in anyway it connects to GPRS instead of wifi despite me being only a few feet away from the router.
i don't want GPRS, i don't want to pay for it so i disabled GPRS under comms manager but as soon as i do the button flicks back over and it reconnects and only sometimes give me an option to disconnect.

sounds good, how do i do that?
it should automatically connect you to wifi. even if the gprs signal is on, it should still be connecting through wifi regardless.

the thing is i had credit/minutes on a simcard and after i checked my email and it connected/disconnected while i was fighting with it my credit went from £2.00 to £0.01
I am pretty sure ABACABB will do the trick.

i googled it aswell -_-

Easy
Start-settings-connections-connections again-manage existing connections-edit the one is active and change the values to anything you want.
Also as other members say there must be an app to do so, but I prefer to do it manually
Good luck,

Hi,
You might want to take a look here. Paul has a neat little app for your problem.
Dirk
^thankyou
^^thankyou
The NODATA did the trick for me thanks
Anyway?
if better , perm disable of GPRS will be good .
Try NoData to disble GPRS. Personally I'm not having much luck with it as my TD2 keep closing it down in background.
Alternative is to deliberately set an incorrect APN so it cannot connect even when it tries.
I don't know of any method of setting a default connection type.
NoData.cab works fine in my device, but HD Tweak can do the same job, so I removed it.
Would like to do the same too, and then have my weather and emails be updated via my home network thru wireless only...
any one able to do this?
Of course you can! Using 3g or any other paying data connection when WiFi is available is simply foolish

Done spose you would like to tell me how please...i am not that clued in with the HTC device just yet...and have used alot of my data already...which i have to pay for...
Thanks..
With pleasure:
Some people say they can deactivate gprs,3g etc within windows..but as I emptied my sim credit within a minute when I first started my Topaz, I decided not to worry anymore by installing Modaco's NoData.cab (it's free, google for it) and disabling all costly data connections from my operator. After a few days I realized that nodata.cab was no longer needed because I had also HD Tweak, who can do the same.If you use it go to point 6. and disable the 3 last settings. So it's up to you:NoData.cab or Hd Tweak...and I'm sure even others utilities work aswell.
Or you simply delete the settings for 3g conections and the software will decide to use WIFI it's avaible instead 3G (because it will not work without settings.)
How do you do that? In this case you would have to do the network autoconfig again if you need 3g etc..anyway this discussion is funny because it is rare to find a thread with multiple solutions recently....I was getting bored of unsolved problems . Cheers !

I have SPB monitor instaleted to verify the traffic.
If 3G it's active and you enable WIFI the application it will use 3G.
If the 3G it's close and open WIFI the application it will use WIFI and don't open 3G.

So it's not about "deleting" anything, you're just using another application (costs USD$19.95). May be a solution
You understand me wrong.
First solution about deleting the connection was the simplest one if you want to use only WIFI.
Second : "I have SPB monitor instaleted to verify the traffic."
I use this app ONLY to verify and to be sure were the app goes to made traffic not for directing the app.
SPB Monitor tell you if you have one or more connections how much traffic you made...
and I see what I tell you if I have 3G closed and WIFI activated the traffic was made on WIFI and 3G remain closed.
But if you have 3G connected and start after that WIFI the 3G will made the traffic.
OK I understand, may I ask you again what are the steps for your first solution?
1. if you don't want to warry about 3G connection and you don't want to use it.
-"Connection setup/menu" disable auto configuration
-"Connections/manage existing connections" and delete all the connections
- enable WIFI and all the programs will use WIFI(will be the single way)
2. If you want to use 3G and WIFI
-when you use WIFI be sure/verify the 3G connection it's closed(click on the status bar-signal strenght icon and if it's active disable it)
-afterthat enable WIFI
Otherwise if 3G it's active will be the first option for applications to acces the internet.
Try to enable Autodisconect (ADV CONFIG or HDtweak) of data connection after you use it to disconnect automatically for you.
I hope I help you.
Solution 1 doesn't work here, wasted a couple of euros ..back to my good ooold system.
i still can't disable it, i just bomb $400 for activating gprs ..
new to WM phone , so ... kinda slow .
If you only want to use wireless all the time, try the following:
Go to Start | Settings | Connections
Click on Connections icon
Click on Advanced tab
Click on Select Networks button

Programs that automatically connect to a private network should use

Hi, will this solution also fix my issue? My issue being:
-No dataplan, but do not want do disable/delete 3g/gsm, because I still want to use it sporadically on the road, and recieve MMS. But only when I choose to manually.
-At the same time, I want the automatic updates of weather, push-email, stock and such, but ONLY when I'm in a known WLAN.
In simple terms, I want to deny the 3g/E/H from automatically connecting, without deleting them. At the same time, wifi should be allowed to automatically connect, and update selected services.
Is this possible?
Every now and then, I notice that my phone connects to the internet (t-mobile internet). I find this strange because I've disabled everything (i can think of) from automatically updating or connecting (weather, email and msMyPhone). I have an unlimited data plan so I'm not particularly worried about the cost; however, it drains my battery fast. Just yesterday, I tapped the top of the screen to see my notifications and I noticed that t-mobile internet had been connected for over 2 hours. I just can’t figure out the cause. I've even done the auto disconnect registry tweak (auto disconnect after 60 seconds) but still no joy. If anyone can help or even suggest a process monitoring application, I’d be very grateful. Thanks in advance.

I think stock was the culprit. I removed it from the home tab from day one and as a result couldnt access it's settings. I put it back on and sure enough it was connecting every 30 mins.
Thanks alot mate. I'll report back in a day or two with the results, though I'm pretty certain it was the stock application.
If you want to be able to turn internet off so it cant connect when you dont want it to then just install the attached cab, run the program then you can enable or disable both settings as appropriate.
I also recommend to use NoData.
Just go to settings->wireless control->connection->advance->select network(choose my work connection if you havent rename it yet) If you would like to use hsdpa/edge/gprs again you will have to change it to as it was before.

Even better, you can use Dial-up Enabler/Disabler: works like nodata but interface is a little better and is more user friendly ;-)

Pls note that with nodata, you disable the internet connection but, if the connection is active while disabling it, you still need to end it manually after exiting nodata.
This sounds weird I know...
With dial-up enabler/dsabler it is a lot easier as you will see two connections: one is the internet connection configured on your phone and the other is the current active connection, and you can disable them at the same time.
In addition it does not have annoying confirmation messages on disabling and exiting

HD2 connection problem
Connect your HD2 to your computer and transfer the cad file to your mobile.
Find the file on your phone using File Explorer (on the phone).
Double click on it and follow the instructions.
Then go to Start and locate the nodata programme.
Start it and disable what you want.
I disabled the Orange (in my case) internet connection and WAP.
In my case it is crucial that I donet't g automatic access to internet services when I roam because I am on a PAYG tariff.
£20 last me up to three months normally with a different phone (SIC) and since I started using my HD2 my last top up lasted me less than a week.
It's a rip-off!
Once beaten, twice shy...
I won't be caught again!
Hope this helps

Hey all,
I'm on my 3rd htc device and I should have asked this question ages ago!
With things like weather updates and emails is it possible to have them automatically update and download when I'm using WiFi without it trying to open a gprs connection at all other times?
I would also be interested because coming from a symbian phone I really dont like that the phone does not ask me which access point I want to use and that gprs connection is the primary one to use on win mo phone. Nokia is better for me from this point of view, you have to choose which access point to use and there is no way you surf on the net thinking you are on wifi while in reality you are using gprs.
As a former Symbian user, I must agree. 1 point for Symbian, and inexcusably lame for Windows Mobile. Let's hope that this is something that can be worked out in an update to 6.5.x while we wait....and wait.... and wait for WP7.

No, there's no way to force wifi. If wifi is connected it will use it, but if it hits the time where it's set to autoupdate, and no wifi is available, it will connect to gprs.
but... if you are in a WiFI area, but without data service, you are SOL, because it won't use the WiFi for the status updates, email, etc.
Pretty dumb, really.
use bsb tweak to disable all mobile data connections or use nodata program... then it wont be able to try to connect while its not on wifi... but u wont be able to use data connections either unless u enable them again
Of course it does use wifi if it's connected and no other connection is present... I'm doing that every day!
When I arrive home I turn on wifi, disconnect data if it was connected, and I can do all I want, it will use wifi and not try to connect data.
is there a way to auto-download once wifi or data connection is detected? my carrier charges me bigtime for every connection access and not by the minute oe data use.. so I just want everything to update automatically in 1 access without manually doing so for each..

If disable my data connection, and enable WiFI, and then choose the Weather tab and Update Now... nothing happens. It tries... it fails. Always has on every ROM I've used.
Does it not do this for you, for example?
If I reverse the process.... enable my data connection and disable WiFI.... choose Weather tab, and Update Now.... it works!
Why should such an integral part of the Homescreen UI be utterly and completely dependent on a data connection?
That's something I do not understand.

No, if I do that it works perfectly.
I'd say you have a connectivity problem with your Wifi.. does it work to browse then net in Opera? Wouldn't you use a proxy by any chance?
that's sometimes a problem of synchronization of your wifi router and your device (e.g. dhcp or timeout reconnect of your wifi router)
try this:
switch on router and then wifi on your device.
then start quickgps and try to update.if it fails, then try again quickgps.
if it works on second time then it's because of this synchronization...but update weather should work now by wifi.

Opera and every other connection works. I think it has something to do with my location. It could be that my ISP or my service provider is part of the problem.
Oh one thing I forgot:
In wifi options, advanced, network cards, network cards tab, make sure it's set that your network card connects to the Internet, not Work.
That could be it.
