Ok, after having an Xperia X1 I gave in finally to the HD2. Man is it fast. I've already HSPL, Task 29, and flashed it with Energy ROM. My problem is everything works as it should including the storage card, but after I start playing around with it and it resets it stops recognizing the storage card. If I perform a hard reset, it recognizes it. If I go to boot loader it recognizes it. But after a couple soft resets stops recognizing it. What problems should I look in to in trying to resolve this?
Thanks.

Try removing it, booting the HD2, then switching it off and pop the card back in, does it still not see it?
Is the card the one that came with your phone?

If it is a stock SD card, then get it replaced, they suck. I had to get a new one before I walked out of the store .......

And no, it's not the stock card. It's a Sandisk 16 GB. I heard the stock cards weren't any good. But even with playing with both cards it still doesn't recognize it. This is very frustrating.
Could there be a possiblility of it being a ROM problem? I'll be honest and admit that I didn't even test it when it was stock. I just charged it and did the procedures to flash it and revert to the ROM that I'm use to on my Xperia. Or could it be a faulty phone?
It might be a faulty phone, but you should try different ROMs, see where that brings you.
EDIT: Lots of ppl have trouble with 16GB cards, but if you say that you have the same issues with the stock one, then...
My Xperia recognizes both cards, but the HD2 doesn't anymore. I even reformatted the both cards to FAT32 and both were recognized. So I copied some programs over and installed them...soft reset, and now it's not recognized again. I'm getting frustrated. I found that another member has stated that his class 2 didn't work, but class 4 did. But I thought Classes don't affect whether it's recognized or not, but the read/write speed?
dude try this, I've been doing this a couple of times and it works for my T8585. You insert it into a card reader then plug it to your computer. Most often a message appears on your computer screen telling you to fix your card (I use windows 7) but just ignore it. Then copy all the files in your card to your computer, plug it out and insert it into your phone. You can try and tell me whether it works for you.
SDHC problem
Hi, i have similar problem. When I insert SDHC (4Gb class4),Device dont recognize, but when i plug into USB and press Disk drive,RECOGNIZE. I have HD2 T-Mobile, Energy ROM/Stock ROM...
Can somebody HELP ME ?
So after I flashed WP7, everything works fine. But whenever I turn off the phone (long press end call key) and open it again the next day. All my settings are gone (i.e. Hard reset without me doing anything). Also same thing happens when I change my regional settings and click that link to reboot my phone. Why is this? Hope someone can helpme out.
EDIT:
EVERYTHING IS WORKING. Data is saved after reboots.
Steps:
1. Flash WP7 like usual WITH SD card inserted
2. Wait for WP7 to load up.
3. Physically REMOVE SD card from phone.
4. Restart phone
5. When phone is booting up (white HTC screen). Put back in the SD card
6. You should then see the WP7 setup screen.
I hope this helps out other people who had similar problems with stock hd2 2GB SD card.

sorry for the stupid q, but do you have an sd-card inserted into your phone? cause it seems like you don't. wp7 uses sd card for some off system files.

yup, SD card is in. Pretty sure it's compatible (According to this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=912904 it's). I've got the stock HD2 SanDisk microSD_2 GB.
i have exactly same problems did you ever figure it out?
thanks

i bet its not compatible, this sounds like the shipped 2gb card and i had the same problems like many others with the shipped sd card
-> have you got the first start steps?
i think no
remove your sd card, go to settings, info and reset your phone
after this everything will work (until your storage is gone)

Yeah i've heard about the stock sd card being a pain, going to try your suggestion.
Everything is working. I've listed what I've done in my original first post.
If You can be so kind and help me with THIS problem: I bought the phone with lock and wallpaper password (the seller keeps saying thtat knows nothing about it - I don't belive him - somebody had to set this password.) I cant find the way to reset this password to use the phone normally .
I tried to solve the problem by replaceing SD CARD but:
When i pull out 8GB original SD card out (SANDISK CLASS 4)- phone starts normally and doesn't ask about password. When i put the card in again -phone is locked again and what is more showing info that next possible try to enter the password is after 1690 minutes!!! I put in another SD card from my HTC HD2 (SAN DISK 8GB , CLASS 2) and have made a phone reset (trough menu).Than i made the reset witht pulling out battery during the screen turnes black during restart. It didn't help - the phone doesn't see this card and shows only 15,7 MB of space. Mybe I should buy another new SD card and try again with this one...? Any ideas? I dont what to do...Thanks

I put a reply up on the Dell forums for you
Thanks - but here is my answe-post on Your advise and continuation of my problems...
Well - I dont know if it makes sense or not but the facts are:
1. My phone starts and works without any sd card in slot - shows only 15,7 MB of memory then
2. If i follow the process You explained my phone does not go in to the process of hard/sof reset. I cant make him to go to any initial process/screen. By the way - after pulling out battery/replaceing sd/putting battery in - You mean the phone should automaticly contiuing this process of restart or i should turn power off ? Franlky saying i have to turn it on again because after puting battery in again nothong happens.
3. After restart situation is the same - phone didn't integrate system with SD card - shows only 15,7 MB of sapce
Any ideas what is wrong with it? Or mybe I am doing sth wrong?
Any other ideas of resetting this password and without replaceing oryginall SD CARD?

Ok....this is weird.
without an SD card, the memory should read around 408mb or so. So, what you're saying cannot b indicates something is not right. So, lets look at what is known:
1. SD card is not an interchangable item in WP7. If the device starts without a card. Then proceed without a card.
2. Stock memory without a card is around 400mb.
3. A hard reset and a soft reset are 2 different things. A soft reset, you can pull the battery. A hard reset will force you to set you device back up from scratch From what you describe, this is not happening.
So, step by step.
1. If your device starts without your SD card, pull the card and start your device.
2. On your device, go to Settings, then about, and choose reset your device.
3. Let the device rest, following any instructions on the screen. Eventually the device will reset, reboot, and ask you to set it up. Go ahead and log in with a Windows LIVE ID, but do not install anything else.
4. Once this is complete, go to Settings, About and read the memory setings. It should read about 400mb.
The device should now work. Does it?
If it does, then do this.
1. Go to settings, then about, and reset your device. Allow the device to begin to reboot.
2, While the screen is still black, pull the battery. Put the SD card. Put the battery back in, Start the device and allow the setup to continue.
3. Log in with a Windows Live ID and let the setup complete.
4. Go to settings, about, and look at the memory info. You should now see something like 15.9g instead of 15.7m.
If the first part does not work then something is wrong with the device. Most likely, no one here can help. You might have to call Dell for help...though there is little they can do.
let me know what happens...

I just thought of something else.....long shot. what if this is not an OS password but rather a SIM lock password or even a an unlock code required for a different sim in a branded phone?
Is your sim from TMOBILE?
Since you still haven't got this sorted, have you considered the possibility that the previous owner had an exchange account set up on the phone and that the exchange administrator mandated a password/strict security settings on the device?
That doesn't really explain why the lock remains after a wipe though....

His phone is not doing the things it should do. He claims he cannot hard reset it. So that makes me wonder about a few things.....but heck....he hasn't responded so maybe he got it working...
Hey guys. So I might have bought this phone off of eBay. So, now I'm stuck with it. A hard reset with the SD card out doesn't reset. I mean...it kind of does. If I change the theme color or save wifi passwords, I turn off the phone and turn it back on and all the settings are gone. It doesn't go through the setup, everything is just gone. A hard reset followed by a battery pull and new SD card doesn't work either. I think the hard reset just isn't working. I don't know how hard resets work, but seeing how the phone doesn't remember themes and wifi passwords (even the time and date...it resets to the default wrong time) when I turn it off and on, I don't think it can remember that it's supposed to do a hard reset when it turns back on after the beginning of the restart after I click "Reset". Again, I have no idea if that's even how hard resets work. Well...sorry that was long. Any ideas? Am I just stuck with a broken phone? I can get it in to "Download Mode". Can I install a ROM that way? Thanks!
Buy a new card, you can either go with the same card as the original Sandisk Class 4 8gb or buy a larger card.
Leave the original card in the phone and go to about > reset phone and reset it. Once the DELL logo appears take the battery out and put your new card in. Once that is done the phone will be reset fully.
This is the procedure when you replace the standard card included when you buy the phone off DELL.
I bought a new Venue Pro from Expansys and used this method to replace the included Sandisk 8GB card with a Sandisk 32GB card. Be careful about buying cheap 3rd party cards though.
Thanks for your reply, but the original SD has a password on it. A reset without the SD and a battery pull and a new SD should work the same way, right? The point is to get the phone all ready to reset the phone and when it turns off to restart and reset the phone, you pull the battery and put the SD in to trick it into formatting that SD, right? I figure it would work the same without an SD card. I think the problem is in the actual reboot process. The phone can't seem to remember that it's supposed to do a hard reset.
Pretty sure it should do, as long as it goes into the hard reset process then it should work the same as if there was a SDCard in it already.
Put the device into update mode by starting the phone with power + camera + vol down then use the WP7 Update Cab Sender to send the stock rom
Alright. Now we're getting somewhere. Okay. I found the stock cab for the Venue Pro. If I use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1240455 this tool with that cab, will the phone be reset to its factory setting when I boot up? I am wondering if the PIN lock on the unlock screen will still be there after doing this. Thanks.
Well try it and find out.

I almost bought that one a few weeks ago, but after doing some researching I found out the Dell Venue Pro is a little more resistant to being wiped than other WP7 devices, and I didn't want to risk having a phone I couldn't use. Apparently on most there's a key combo you can do to cause a reset on boot, but not on the DVP. On the DVP you have to start the hard reset with the SD it's expecting to be there. (which you can't do because of the password)
The one thing I found though that I thought had potential was this thread. If he posts the Lightning Service tools there I think those have a very good chance of resetting it for you if that other tool doesn't reset it for you.

Is that the new world record?
Sent from my GT-I5800 using XDA App
Just had a though and wondered if anyone had tried it.
We know when we take a sim card out and boot up WP7 it boots as if it a virgin install.
So my question is if we were to reflash the phone with a second sim card can we then insert the original sim card after the install completes to save us losing all the data and settings?
Has anyone tried this?
EDIT: I meant SD Card not sim card
No replies
If anyone is going to install the new rom would it be possible that you could insert a second sim when reflashing and after the flash it complete reinsert your old original sim and see if it works and keeps your old settings?
If not it will only need a reset to reformat the original sim so nothing to lose in trying this, I would try myself but I have too much on my sim to lose at the moment and cannot try until weekend as I need my phone through the week.
Thanks

whoops, didnt mean to hit thanks! oh well, one for your collection!
from my point of view it wont work, the SIM being there or not wont make the blindest bit of difference when you flash it, the installer will wack anything on the SD card, which is the only place that could keep the data intact
if your looking for backup wait a while, Windows phone device manager will soon have a backup program built in to it, your phone will need to be unlocked as its not MS supported but other than that it should backup you data and your app data allowing you to flash to your hearts content, and keep your data.
i dont know if it will install apps again though, i suspect not, but its progress!
You got a thanks back
What I meant was, if you power down your WP7 and remover the sim the phone boots up perfectly but none of your contacts are there or emails and preferences.
If you the power down and re insert the sim your phone boots up as normal with all your settings.
So if we reflash using a different sim card the after the flash is complete, power down the phone remove the sim card and replace it with the one you were using before the reflash, would it not use the setting stored on the older sim card?
I have the manager registered so will use that when its out but this was just an idea and wondered if anyone has tried it.
(power down your phone and remove the sim and power up and you will see what my logic is )

ahh, yes now that makes a lot more sense!
ill check, i plan on reflashing on sunday to update to NoDo, i need to backup all my app data first just incase so it will need to wait until then, you would probably need to make sure the old SD card was the same size as the new one, just incase it checks that out.
It won't work... I bought some SD cards last week and swapped them out and if the info on the phone doesn't match the info on the card, it won't keep the info each time you restart...
For instance, if you insert new sd, get the green theme like a new phone, change to orange theme, turn phone off and on, it goes back to green as its still looking for original card...
Thanks for letting us know, its a pity as it would make reflashing so much easier
Technically it won't work anyway as the sdcard would be part of the raid set that wp7 makes. You cannot just take data from one raid set and add it to another.
The sdcard in wp7 is not just used as additional storage it is treated as one big lump.

now that isnt quite true,i say quite because doing this doesnt means its just takeing it from the SD card but the idea is the same, ive done a manual backup of the data from the SD card, visible through Windows phone device manager, ie, ive gone through the application folder and copied the IsolatedStore of the programs i wanted to keep the data for.
it does mean that i still need to install the app, but i can just copy the IsolatedStore back to the correct folder which will give back all the data and original settings before the reflash.
Hi guys,
So recently my screen stopped working and I need to get it fixed. I want to revert the phone back to its stock ROM but I can't seem to do that. I downloaded the stock rom and followed this guide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wc89Gh0QpIY&feature=player_embedded
But, when I get into bootloader, in the white section of the screen it says Serial and it just stays unresponsive, it doesn't boot up like in the video. Any ideas on what's going on?
Did you rename the .nbh file to LEOIM.nbh? Also did you put thenfilenon the root(not in a folder) of your SD card? If you have done both of these then make a back up of you SD card and then reformat you SD card with a full format and not a quick format. Also the SD card method does not work well with larger SD cards so you may have to try a 2gig or 4gig SD card. Last you can use HSPL 4 to revert back to stock SPL just choose the SPL version from the drop down box when you run the installer, here is a hint the SPL's with four zeros at the end are stock SPL's.
Thanks for the reply
So, I tried reformating my 16 gb SD and still have the same problem. I then tried to do it with a 4 GB SD, same thing. So I tried it with HSPL but I can't sync the phone to my PC since it's in storage mode and with the touchscreen broken I can't adjust it to sync. I'm not taking the phone to a verified dealer so they probably won't care that it's flashed. The problem, from what I understand is that the digitizer is broken, so it shouldn't matter that the phone is flashed, right?
Thanks
You can connect it to the PC for flashing without Windows Mobile through the bootloader (3-colour screen). Just turn that on and connect it; Serial should change into USB and you are ready to flash.
About SD card method: Make sure the nbh file is named LEOIMG.nbh. The letters MUST be uppercase, else it might not work.
