IDEA: Lonely Planet translation software for Diamond/Pro - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV Themes and Apps

I have noticed here in Australia that the Iphone can come with Lonely Planet translation software. Has anyone been able to come up with a Pocket PC compatible one that could go on our Diamond/Pro. I am writing it in here as the Iphone does share a couple of things with the Diamond/Pro although our Diamond/Pro to me and many of us are far superior to the Iphone. I believe language translation software would be a valuable contribution to our Pocket PC's. I have not come across any good translation programs and have found livingsoft or whatever its called and etaco to be not really very good. (Have never been able to get english-Thai translations on either my old TyTn II or my Touch Pro.) Lonely Planet has by memory up to 6000 phrases in it in many different toungues. With international roaming now more prominant and with more and more people travelling I think it would be a very valuable addition to those of us who only know the very basics of some languages and with JBlend on our phones it should not be too difficuld as a widget.

No Lonely Planet is a well known travel Guide which originates from Australia but has spread worlwide. They started up with Language translation Books and tapes (Audio Tapes) and now they have spread to mobile phone software which they have so far launched on Iphone (I know its on Aussie spec Iphones unsure if on other country spec yet) They have covered every English to Other language eg. english to French, English to Thai. It lso gives guides to overseas accomodation, restaurants etc. But the language idea would be tops as Overseas travel becomes more possible and with so many Phones/PDA's having ever increasing memory capacity it would be a very handy tool to have on ones Diamond or Pro.

Android for Soldiers? what do you think?

well as im reading through some websites i stumbled across Engadget where they r using Android devices in Afghanistan to test real-time, spoken language translation from Pashto to English. now i think this is neat. here is the site that has a video of them actually doing it http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/02/darpa-and-nist-testing-real-time-translation-system-for-use-in-a/ like i said i think this is neat n it would be cool to see soldiers using these overseas to make their jobs safer and easier. but could the open source of Android be an issue for the military? what do you guys think?
As a military comm guy, I'm fairly certain that if the Nexus One is just being used as a hardware platform for this translation technology, with some fairly obvious physical modifications as seen in the video, it's probably NOT network-enabled.
I will be deploying to Afghanistan shortly as an Contract Specialist with the Air Force. My job requires me to constantly communicate with local contractors and even at my current duty station (Guam) the communication barriers with some Japanese contractors can make things interesting.
I am going to have to look into this. I know tha,t as a contracting guy, one of the first things we do when opening a base is try to get cell service from the local economy. Not sure what they do now since alot of Afghanistan is pretty built but I have been looking at a few prepaid cell services that I could get on my own. Doubt it would be very difficult to do this.

Disappointing Android (to me)

Yesterday I upgraded my sgs to froyo jpc with kies. I am new with Android but the post of Aery(congrats and thanks) was so clear that i didnt resist: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...=froyo+upgrade
Froyo is of course better than eclair but Android is still disappointing to me.*EDIT: ( If the official Froyo will be better than jpc so maybe, not that disappointing)*
I miss that proper voice dial/control (over bluetooth or not) and proper connectivity control (network, data, bluetooth and gps) of the old Symbian S60 OS on my lost 5800XM
Some Android fans did say that Symbian is primitive in comparison to Android. Well the first edition of the S60 didnt even have kinectic scrolling or multi-touch( the 5800 doesnt even have a capacitive touch screen), but what do I care about those toying things? I want basic functions working properly out of the box.
Android users have to wait till version 2.2 to get voice dialing over bluetooth and it's there now, but is very crappy.
Could android developers not investigate how Symbian does that?
I have mostly dutch names in mine phone book. Android's 2.2 voice dialing doesnt support the language of the phone if its not one of the 5 or 6 of its list
With symbian voice dialing will talk the phone's language as it should be.
With android voice dialing over bluetooth behaves erractic even in english.
And voice dialing directly at the phone doesnt repeat the names that it processes and it's so buggy and also erractic
With my old Nokia 5800XM, I could keep the phone in my pocket, and while listening to music with the headset, press and hold headset's talk button say a name the device repeats it and by no further action it makes the call; without even having to take phone out of the pocket....It wont happen with my sgs.
My car have bluetooth voice system that works perfectly ansd smoothly with my old 5800xm since the very first edition of the symbian S60, without pre-programing both systems...
Nothing primitive about that
Android developers should yhink about the future. The majority of the consumers don't know or don't have time to tweak a device or a OS or help to develop it. The majority of the users want a smartphone that will do basic functions and perform well out of the box...
Because if an android device will be just about being another expensive toy with cool graphics with cool touch-screen stuff, well, that market belongs to i-Phone.
And in this way, the future is not bright; they need to get a grip
That's my opinion
Froyo is still in Beta, the official froyo is not out for the public yet
voice dial works even on 2.1
you can use google voice build in or vlingo free
for data control there is SwitchPro, works great
yes there are still some stuff to polish on Android, it's not perfect, but we are getting there
and i agree the voice dialing is a bit buggy at recognizing the proper command or name to dial even in english
regardless of what your opinion is android is growing stronger by the year and not long before it takes over iphone inmho.
this is obvious, we are 2 years behind, yet look at the speed we are picking up in such a short time
Android Market is full of useful Apps, tools, add ons, and games
i spend a whole week installing apps to see which one was better, as there are times many does the same thing, but some are better designed than other.
For me Android is the cats meow...
I had a Windows Mobile phone (HTC Mogul aka P4000 in Canada) It sucked pretty bad. If it was not for this community that phone would have been useless.
While I've never owned an Iphone, I've had a ipod touch 2nd gen for a while.
Then I got my Galaxy S... I sent a good a amount of time reading about this phone when Samsung announced it. I also sent a good amount of time reading about other HTC android devices along with android itself.
I decided on this phone due to it's specs and how eager the community sounded about it's overall potential.
Sure the iphone has a large following and a very large app store, but it's not nearly customizable as a solid android device with an eager community wanting to constantly push it to it's full potential.
my 2 cents cdn.

I don't care if Android becomes another "hype" like the i-Phone, because it's "cool" is from Google or stuff like that.
I just want mine quite expensive Android device having the basic functions working properly out of the box.
Can you imagine what's gonna happen when Nokia decides to come up with a real high-end device, and with that I mean real fast processor, lots of Ram and Rom like in the sgs and then running Symbian^3 or Meego? The thing will fly.
That N8 is looking good but comes with the same old arm processor of the N97 just overlocked ( so I heard)
As I said I don't care about the i-Phone and all those suckers paying an abusive price to have a "hype" thing
And I dont care about how strong or rich Google gets. I am not a stock holder and i dont work for Google..do you?
I just wanted mine expensive phone having a good working stock voice dialing system.
If something is not working we have to point it out dont we?
Stop behaving like a fanboy and let them hear us...

Well, best answer till now. 2 years huh? Just that if you talk about vlingo, google voice search, voice dial of the 2.1 and all those apps on the market, you really should have a look at Symbian voice dialing; it looks like more than 2 years ahead.
Btw, Symbian S60 got it right on its first edition with the 5800XM. and that's very impressive for a phone that costs around 200 euros....
Well, but i like the bigger and brighter screen of the sgs. And its nice sound and good working wifi....but that have nothing to do with Android.....
Google said that currently only the US English is supported and working for the voice features.
The other accents, like UK English, and the other languages will be coming later.
But the good news with this, is that once the voice features are supported for a language, everything works - not only voice dialing, but also voice search, etc...
So I guess we just need to be patient.... at least google have already shown us that they are working fast.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Google voice search and the voice dialing within android are 2 different things
The voice dialing in my sgs is powered by the PICO TTS engine that was quite buggy in the eclair and remains buggy in the (beta?) froyo and it is even more unfunctional over bluetooth.
The same engine behaving differently when speaking via BT and when speaking directly to the phone. Even in the standard language
All Google did is install a 3rd party app within the firmware instead of developing a voice engine within the OS.
Or is this Pico app just a temporary thing until google get things done? And where is the article?
Pls enlight me

All of the voice actions are going to use the same engine.
I.ex: if you say "Call Joe" or "Navigate to Joe" or "Search for Joe" it's (obviously) the same engine. (but your phone doesn't have this engine yet).
There is a google video showing this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGbYVvU0Z5s , and also a couple news around the web. As I said, only US is working now; the other accents and languages will be coming later. Voice actions is not even included in the international versions yet.
Currently, if you talk with a US accent it is working beautifully. But if you use another language or a UK accent it just falls on its face.
Anyway, once we get voice actions working properly in all of the languages Android will be 2 years ahead of Symbian & Co.

So I was right, 2 different things, both of them not working properly yet.
Firstly, during annoucements of Android 2.2 with a list of improvements, one of them was bluetooth voice dialing and of course they were reffering to the unfunctional or bad working Pico TTs engine; so bluetooth voice dialing is there but doesnt work properly and that's what I mean when I say "disappointing"
We are talking about the active engine, and not about something that will be ready someday maybe...
The whole issue with voice actions is another story and quite strange as well. What was that about accents?
If I use google voice search and I speak english with my brazilian/dutch accent and it understands me completely and never fails. why online search functions work even with my accent and the other functions won't? And for online search in english I was already usingo Vlingo on my old 5800xm almost 2 years ago
Seems to be it uses exactly the same technology of Vlingo or vice-versa, that means another toy thing.
But this thread has nothing to do with future possible solutions, it's about something that was supposed to work properly right now and it doesnt.
But who knows, our friend AllGamer is right; 2 years is not much and this is just a beta version?
Let's wait and see
There must be something android did right for you to have so much time to complain and still sticking with it.
What I care about is that android is getting better almost on a daily basis.

Google actions is ready and working great. It was released 1 or 2 months ago.
But currently only US English is supported, this is why you don't have it on your Dutch/Brazilian phone.

There's nothing strange here. You are still using the old system that worked poorly and just don't have the new voice actions engine yet, that's all.
As for accents: UK friends of mine are getting 98+% accuracy (even when dictating SMS) when speaking with a US accent. With a UK accent it fails miserably. But this is normal, as UK English isn't supported yet.

I am not sure if your Vlingo is capable of doing this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGbYVvU0Z5s , and to me this is not a "toy". This is the future, today. Everything done without key input, with voice commands... this is where we are heading.
Seriously, what we have now in US English is really amazing. Of course it still needs to get ironed out and all of the languages need to get supported. But Google is really moving fast.

It was officially announced: Finally voice dialing over bluetooth with Android Froyo 2.2 . Froyo is here, voice dialing over bluetooth can be activated but it's unfunctional...it doesnt work good.
Do you work for Google? So inform it to them.
And I also hope that voice actions will work offline
Cause I only use wifi and no internet in my car.
Proper voice dialing should work offline too

No. This is not the future. This is today. -> NOW<- and has been working for 1 month already.
For the 3rd time: it works in US English, but you can't install it in the other languages yet. Languages other than US are currently being implemented. FOR THIS REASON: it doesn't work on your Dutch/Brazilian phone, yet.
Of course it works offline (SMS & text dictating, local phone searches & actions) . But everything requiring an internet search (i.ex: google search and maps) will not render any results if you are offline, obviously.

That is the major flaw of the Android, it is so US centric (so have beena the most other US based, in the beginning).
It took 10 years from Microsoft to understand that
- there is other languages and alphabets in the World than the US English
- not all people uses 12-hour clock and mm/dd/yyyy date format
It took 10 years from programmers to understand that
- the applications should use the op-system date format, there is no need to take than by themselves
The Android is far from perfect, it is moderate even in basics. It is not 2 years behind, it is 5 years behind. My Android date format is dd/mm/yyyy, yesterday I add the birthday to my contacts, the date format is dd.mm.yyyy, why? That is the most stupid thing among other date mass about.
I hate those stupid US things, but I can live with those (for a while).

According to the latest tests posted in the gps threads, this issue seems to be fixed in the latest beta firmware (the official release is scheduled for this month). They compared it with the HTC Hero, the Nexus One and the iphone 4. The SGS tracking is now doing as well, and its getting a lock in about 10 seconds. (check the gps poll thread)

Done this for Bangkok & Singapore too, also use metro for route planning when in unfamiliar cities.

thats not practical. i require a real app with features.
Mmm a quality map link to open for browsing & a link to web NYC data in opera browser is as practical as most apps I have seen on Android or iPhone.
Doubt you will be that impressed with Android, too many clicks to do basic tasks, no good office document software, no good lingvosoft language software packs & it is visually outdated.
WM 6.5.5 custom is still one of the best proffesional PDA OS's & iOS is another good option due to intuitive interface & simple functionality.

hi.. but winmo doesnt have adequate amount and quality of apps. like the subway map.. this should be one of the most basic apps that all phones should have, no question about it. for winmo not to possess one is totally inexcusable.
like i said, i will install droid. and youre right, visually it looks like win '95.. very horrible and nerdy. i dont understand why droid developers dont make it look sleek and modern like winmo. this is comething thats a huge mystery. but if it falls short of my expectations, i'll sell my hd2. end of story.
WM has a quality range of apps that has yet to be matched by Android or iOS in many areas but falls short in some areas.
Not the OS's fault entirely as the developers ran off chasing big sales from Android users & WM was never a main stream user OS but is very capable in the right hands.

i hope youre not smoking something to make such a ridiculous claim.
Number of apps dosn't reflect quality of applications available.
I have WM devices for more than 7 years & also own Android & iPhone.
WM handles office docs far better than other 2 platforms period.
Language software & unicode font & customizing font is simple on WM, iPhone is also good in terms of font but quality translation dictionaries not relying on online data do not match that of WM. Droid in terms of font is a pain.
My claim is far from ridiculous but that fact you are holding an HD2 & not an iPhone is slightly ridiculous considering your need for these "quality apps" !

Using the Note as a teaching aid

Hi,
I have started using a note 10.1 as a teaching aid, although I dont think I have been doing it the right way round.
I was using it to control my desktop so I could move slides on the interactive whiteboard, this became tedious as it was too slow and just a glorified mousepad.
In the new term I want to pair it up with a allshare cast hub, after using it at home a lot most of the tool I have on the whiteboard are already on the note, but better on the note. My intention is to sit with the students rather than stand at the front, I do this for most of the lesson anyway.
Recently I went on the Google Certified Teacher course and it has changed my teaching a fair bit, I use Google drive to upload all my lessons and the students can move at their own pace as they ALL have chromebooks (apart from the ones who have used said chromebooks to hit others round the head with on the bus on the way home.....they are still waiting for screen repairs).
My question is does anyone else do this? I did notice a couple of people post in other threads that they use them for teaching. I think this really is the way forward in the classroom. Most of the other teachers think I am mad for refusing an ipad - most also dont know much about using technology and wouldnt know an apk from an xls. I teach maths, any advice or discussion on how we can use these really well in the classroom would be great.
Thanks BTW for all the great info on here, I may even root my note 2 soon as its now out of warranty, I have no intention of replacing this though as think its pretty much the pinnacle of phones in their current design, maybe the note 4 will tempt me but doubt it. I have used this type of kit since the psion, then the XDA (htc) with win mobile, then the dark side for a short interlude, so glad I have control of my tech again :good:
How could it be out of warranty? You have a year unless you have voided it some how

While there appears to be a couple of people here that use these for teaching, I would be fairly certain that you are definitely a trailblazer of sorts on this extensive of use in the classroom. I love the idea and will definitely keep an eye out for what you are able to accomplish. My mother is a first grade teacher and is constantly having me set up more things that allow her to better utilize the tools at her disposal. This will be a thread that I want to watch for sure.
That said, sorry that I cannot be of more help.

I will give you an idea of what I do at present.
When I set a lesson up it is aimed at the level of the class, which is generally more specific than a topic in a text book. I know what the students (majority!) are missing in terms of skills for a particular topic, and where I want to get them. This is often different to what is written in the text book. Text books do not cover misconceptions very well, I like to set certain questions up knowing exactly the wrong answers that will be given, purposely setting traps in a way.
So I set up my lesson using the 'interactive' books and other resources I have designed myself. Specifically cutting and pasting what I want, and shifting round into an order that I want. This then is exported from the interactive whiteboard software to pdf, then uploaded into the class shared google drive folder. Ultimately I want to start the class off at the front, some will race away and be pages ahead of others, some will be slower than the majority so both of these groups have their chromebooks to follow the lesson at their pace. The majority follows me at, or rather I judge the pace of the majority and work to it so perhaps I follow them,
The note comes into play when I am moving around the room, I can demo misconceptions as they crop up, show worked examples and get students to write these up on the board without getting out of their seats. One thing that I do miss is the equation editing function in Snote, this would have been perfect for the higher grades to see equations balancing and to play with themselves. I can of course still use my phone to do this as well, but the students tell me off for getting my phone out as they are not allowed......I tell them its not a phone, its a tablerone.....or a phablet.....you choose
Ok so a little background on my job. I currently work for the ONLY school in the world (confirmed by Samsung South Korea) that is at a full 1:1 ratio with the Galaxy Note 10.1 GT-N8013 and I am the admin running everything behind the scenes. We currently have 800+ Galaxy note 10.1 in our student and staff's hands. EVERYONE in our building has a tablet including TA's, ILC TA's, Kitchen Staff, Before and After School staff and our building engineer. We use the tablets 75%-90% of the day. It just depends on what grade level you are talking about (K-5). The tablets have been used for the last year and a half and they are used in EVERY subject, the students also take the tablets home everyday. On top of that we are also running a Samsung School Demo http://www.samsung.com/global/business/mobile/solution/education/samsungschool Now with this demo we have a 75-inch and 65-inch touchscreen TV and 55 students with 3 teachers running the demo. This tool is AMAZING for our students, they keep the students engaged and that was one of the points. We also have Promethean boards in every classroom.... With an Allshare Cast Dongle and ATV Pro VGA to HDMI converter we use all of our basic VGA projectors to mirror the devices on the board and with a PC hooked up to Computer 2 VGA input we are able to run the interactive whiteboard samsung provides. Our goal is to be TOTALLY wireless this next school year. And the school district I work in is an APPLE district they ONLY offer the iPad for school purchases, so I know the feeling even our district CIO was like WTF are you doing. When we gave him a galaxy note 10.1 he quickly shut up and was like OH WOW this thing is powerfull we are actually working on a deal with Samsung to replace or drop the price for the 2014 edition and we trade in the 2012 edition..... so far things are looking very good. I am actually traveling to the US HQ in New Jersey this summer to get some certified training and higher level talks about support. PM me if you have any questions that way we aren't taking up to many resources on the actual forum.
Thanks for the input Mike. We are the worlds first 1:1 chromebook school, like yourselves the students take these home. I think they are too fragile but they are changing the way the students learn although not too many teachers are yet fully realising the resources available. I teach 11-18, mainly focussed at 15/16 year olds taking their GCSE in the UK.
I think the discussion should be public on the forum so others can join in.
How are the devices linked to the promethean boards? Mine is a cambridge/starboard. I tried to use Teamviewer but the transfer of data would turn a circle drawn on the tablet into a polygon on the board. Also the input on the note would only input to the cursor position on the software on the pc (hope you understand what I mean).
I did not try with the allshare cast fully, it was a demo from Samsung where I had about a week to try it, with a full teaching timetable and mock exams to mark I didnt make the most of it, but I did go out shortly after Christmas to buy this note as I much preferred it to an ipad - this is my own and not the schools though.
Is there software for the note that we can use through the allshare or are apps like ezpdf / snote / lecture notes suitable?
Ultimately I dont think the hardware is a concern, whether it is a chromebook or a note (the note is the better option) or an ipad. It is the use of the resources. Recently I have forced myself to start with cloud computing a lot more and where I used to think it was a step backwards using google sheets I now realise its a leap forward when you bring scripts into the mix, especially with forms for collecting results and setting questions.
I can see a massive market in apps for education, very simple topic based apps for revision, if any devs are interested I have the maths expertise and pedagogy but no time to develop at the moment......
It would be nice to see Samsung produce a full educational tool (discounted, or perhaps marketed with select advertising), not a mass market tablet/chromebook etc. Whichever company manages this first will take over the market I think.

You can use whatever you need. Snote, lecture notes etc.
I tend to import my older smartboard docs to PDF, then use these to write over.
The key to all of this is google drive, using the forms, and sheets on here.
Have a look at the forms on google drive, you can set up question sheets with ease, self marking or multiple choice, all answers go straight into a spreadsheet for data. As a teacher in the UK I spend more time inputting data now than I do planning lessons (which is wrong!!!), google forms allows me to plan the lesson and get the data automatically. Designing the form is part of lesson planning. Once done of course they are reusable unlike photocopied worksheets.
All of this requires students to have access to a device, many school now allow a 'bring you own device' concept so a lot can access this stuff on their smartphones. The school I work at (http://www.ipaca.uk.com/) has 1:1 chromebooks that the students take home.

Hmmm thats pretty cool. I've been contemplating methods for teaching while over there. They put a huge emphasis on the rules of the language. Grammatically I doubt I can keep up with some of them. Where they tend to fall short is the actual conversational application of the language. Took 4 months to teach a foreign girl the concept of sarcasm. I was thinking that writing semtences on the fly that they could read off of a board and guiding them through the nuances of the language would be more help than yet another class teaching just the rules.

Haha, it has taken me so far 7 years to get my GF who is Polish to understand sarcasm. It is a nuance that is lost on many, and offensive to others yet often the sharpest form of wit

I think that english humor is severely lost on most other people. But, it's beneficial for someone looking to operate in an international business environment, hence china's huge import of native enlglish teachers. What really amazes me is that these schools don't require you to speak any chinese!!

Also the input on the note would only input to the cursor position on the software on the pc (hope you understand what I mean). As far as connecting goes...here you go. We use Basic VGA Projectors, we can go fancy, but it is just way to expensive to replace every VGA projector in our building with a HDMI projector. We basically have an Allshare Cast Dongle connected to ATV PRO http://www.amazon.com/Kanex-ATVPRO-AirPlay-Mirroring-Projector/dp/B0082AFROO which is connected to the VGA. And because HDMI is an All in one Sound/Video. The ATV PRO has an Audio out plug that we connect the Promethean speakers to. With the allshare cast dongle we are able to manually show student tablets on the screen. I found http://www.bestbuy.com/site/rocketf...iver/7511057.p?id=1218851304131&skuId=7511057 a RocketFish Miracast that is suppose to mirror the WHOLE device like the allshare cast does, but finding one here local is HARD! The RocketFish is half the price of the Samsung Allshare Cast and does everything the Samsung one does. But the price is $100 to outfit our classrooms with an allshare cast and ATV pro, compared to $1000+ for projector upgrades per classroom and $70 per room for the allshare cast
Most school districts at least here in the States will reimburse you for a "school" purchase, see if yours will do that and then you can go out and buy one.
Is there software for the note that we can use through the allshare or are apps like ezpdf / snote / lecture notes suitable? The Allshare Cast Dongle will totally mirror your device. If you are playing a game or watching a movie........ EVERYTHING you do on your tablet is mirrored to your screen including taking pictures or videos. All apps work with the allshare cast.
Ultimately I dont think the hardware is a concern, whether it is a chromebook or a note (the note is the better option) or an ipad. It is the use of the resources. Recently I have forced myself to start with cloud computing a lot more and where I used to think it was a step backwards using google sheets I now realise its a leap forward when you bring scripts into the mix, especially with forms for collecting results and setting questions.Yes this is true. Our school district is a GOOGLE APPS District and the push for Google APPS this year is amazing. I also thought it was a step backwards, but it saves SO many resources..... less printing, lost papers, forgot homework at home. Those are no longer excuses the students make.
I can see a massive market in apps for education, very simple topic based apps for revision, if any devs are interested I have the maths expertise and pedagogy but no time to develop at the moment......Very True! According to Samsung and Google the Google for Education Play store was suppose to be open to ALL samsung devices by the end of Feb.....well it is here now and there is no sign of this Education Store. So if you are using anything android a VPP program is not available right now or even the near future. Apple was smart about getting their edu store up and running with VPP (Volume Purchasing Program)
It would be nice to see Samsung produce a full educational tool (discounted, or perhaps marketed with select advertising), not a mass market tablet/chromebook etc. Whichever company manages this first will take over the market I think. I actually had a dinner meeting with National Director Enterprise Sales for Samsung last week. And that was one of the discussion points. The WHOLE education market needs a makeover with Samsung, they have beautiful devices, cutting edge tech, but when you pump out 125 products in 1 fiscal year..... how do you market it? How do you even support that!

A own an English school in China and though I can speak some Chinese, in class, I only speak English. It forces the student to think and process the language differently rather than relying on translation. Naturally, it means that teachers really need to think outside the box when trying to explain new language points or concepts but I have found that in the long run, the students ability to use and comprehend the language is much better. That said, each student has their own way to learn and process language, so this method doesn't work for everyone (though in my 12 years in China, most do well after an initial adjustment period).
Using the N10. 1 in the class would be awesome....my mind is full of new ideas....thanks too all in this thread for the inspiration. :good:

Aah Can't wait to get out there myself. I'm going to work for a stunt company but after that ends trading to stay there awhile
my SM-P900 using XDA Premium HD app is awesome !
I teach English, IELTS and SAT at a school Bangkok, Thailand. All we have is wifi and overhead projectors connected to PCs. I have a Note 10.1 2014 which I use with MirrorOp Pro for Galaxy to mirror my tablet screen on the overhead projector through a PC. Works great. The sender software is $10 on Google Play and the receiver software (for PC) is free. This is a great way to do presentations while walking around the room monitoring students.

Uninstall harmfull app - Yota Reader

Hello,
since two or three days ago, from time to time I get a notification saying that Yota Reader is a harmful app (or something like that, since the my phone isn't configured in English) and that it could be collecting and sending data to track my activities.
Does anybody knows how serious is that claim? Can I just ignore that message? I use that app to read ebooks in the always-on display and I don't think there's an alternative.
I took a couple screenshots as a proof.
I receive similar messages about "book" and i think "book library"
Same here today
belive that is only for Andorid 6
YotaDevices officially declared that it can be safely ignored, because they are facing some incompatibility issues with their apps and Google. -> OFFICIAL YotaDevices Vkontakte page

LMAO what does it matter what the manufacturer officially declares? It's an unknown Russian company. If it's spyware that they put there knowingly, what else do you think they could possibly say other than "it's cool guys, nothing to see here"?
I'll trust the Android anti-malware, thank you. If it's a false alarm, that's fine. But if it isn't... I'm not taking chances.
To be honest, this was my biggest fear about the phone with the whole fishy Russian-Chinese background, crazy low prices, and here we go, malware alert. Great.

Sure, everyone make their conclusions. For me, the fact that companies are Russian, Chinese, American, French, I don't care because it's just where they are from.
I'm the first who wants a SailfishOS everywhere, especially on my Yotaphone. But for know, we have to trust the companies who produce what we use in our everyday life. Microsoft, Google, Internet providers and so on. YotaDevices is a company as others are.
The dangerous software check in our phones has been developed by Google, for example.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not fundamentally biased against Russian products, and it didn't discourage me from buying the phone. But if a dangerous software alert comes up, I don't give them the benefit of the doubt. It's hard enough to trust any manufacturer nowadays, and it's especially true for the smaller ones with little to lose. It's just common sense.
So all I wanted to do is encourage everyone to stay on the safe side and not ignore the warning just because Yota say so. Only turn the affected software back on if the warnings are resolved.
Sure, I'll blindly trust Google, because they haven't done anything fishy, ever. Specially not in their EULAs and privacy agreements. I'll have them record my voice, habits and location history, and I will surely believe a dangerous app alert, no matter if I'm given the factual issues for it or not.
I recived also but I desactivated, hope is a false positive.
I disabled them but YotaReader is still working fine.
