Hi all,
I am trying to program a small application for my HTC Touch Pro. I start a project it comes out with a low resolution of 240 x 268.
I change that resolution to 480 x 640 manually and select to compile the program on my device. What i get is, that i only see the controls that come in the original "240 x 268".
The weirder thing is, i added an image control for testing, and inserted an image with the size of 480 x 640. And above the image, i placed two buttons next to each other, just to see how things would look.
The result came VERY weird, the image came perfectly fit to the screen, but the two buttons appeared in w wrong way, one button was above the image, and then the other one was thrown outside the whole screen for which you have to scroll to!
Why is this happening? and when or how can i program applications for my mobile correctly?
PS:
If i select a button and make its dimensions 240, 42, on my mobile it would fill the whole width! The mob has a width of 480, so how come a 240px control is filling it up? Am confused :S

Hi
I've been reading over the forums for a bit now, checking up on how to increase the screen res of my MDA. I pulled down the ozVga app and ran that, but that didn't seem to work for me, it just made some of my fonts bigger, but the screen size stayed the same.
I also tried going into the Registry with Total Commander but I don't seem to have the HKLM\Drivers\Display\GWE folder where you can modify the LogicalPixels setting manually. I have a CxScreen and a CyScreen that had 240 and 320 as values. I tried updating those to 480 and 640, but after a soft reset nothing happened.
Any thoughts on how I can accomplish a higher screen res?

Thanks
You can't increase screen resolution, the physical size is 320x240. You can remove pixels and give the appearance of a larger screen at the expense of being able to read anything on it but it takes more than a couple of registry settings. A lot more. Check out http://nyditot.com/Home.asp which does what I described above. Last time I checked it sort of worked on a wizard but had a tendency to lock mine solid.
hi,
i have develope a application for years (from evc3 -> evc4 -> VS 2005). now i have to display a picture on the screen using alphablend. unfortunatelly, the alphablend funktion is not resolution aware. so i wanted to get the screen resolution to decide if i have to double the height and the width. i tried GetSystemMetrics(SM_CXSCREEN), but i got the wrong result. instead of 480 x 800 i got 240 x 400. is there an easy way to get the real screen resolution? i don't want to turn off the whole resolution aware feature and recalculate everything.

nobody knows it???
Yes - but overseen here.
Your Device has 192 DPI and the standard assumption of system is therefore wrong -because it isn' aware of the DPI.So you have to change your app to HIGH_RES_AWARE - here you go:

Marble world 2 worked in full screen onece now the bottom is always chopped off??
why do some full screen apps sometimes get "chopped" off at the bottom / top its odd.
i cant make nester work on tp2 atall yes it loads but again chopped off at bottom would not landscape and tp2 would not allow me to assign keyboard keys to controll it i attempted to configure the controls many times to no avail
the sims 2 says only works in landscape mode pls change screen oriantation and try again; did this to no avail it switches to portrait when it loads then throuhs up the error
picodrive did not work it loaded up and then crashed and closed
anyone with some light on the above things would be brill! thanks
so sorry if this is the wrong section for this post!
I hade that same problem, solved it after installing MorphGear,,
Check this out
http://www.spicypixel.com/web/page/morphgear/Download.aspx
First install the morphgear.. than install the emulator you want ( in your case the Ines )
Its working perfect, you can also assign the keys you want, and get full screen with sound..
Try it ouT !
soon as the misses put her naff tv on tonight i will be checking this out! is morphgear an emulator its self?
how do you get it to go full screen? Right now mine is like a 150 by 150 pixel screen haha.
nvm i got it, in case anybody wonders you just set the screen size from 100% to window size.
it will not flip round to landscape how does one do this it does in the menu when first loaded but the black background and the morph gear logo dont go landscape and neither do the games also some games i load it says no memmory error and loads console up but it means nothing. when i try to landscape it it emains in portrait i.e if i open the keyboard hoevery the bottom off the application chops of 10mm and tou can see the today screen behind it
how do you get the pretend on screen game pad to work also?
What emulators are you using?

i got the same problem and can`t find anny solutions :S
(you can use the "Ctrl", "Del" and the 1. button on the front, but its only 3 buttons and there position is not good for playing)
Try using K For Raphael from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=425646
It worked for me.
The only thing that's still a bit weird is assigning the d-pad buttons. Up and Down seem to be switched with Left and Right, so I have to assign them differently. Anyone else having this problem?

yes... it's an issue. the k for raphael.cab needs to be edited to work with the tp2. although the keyboard from the tp is close, obviously, its mapped differently. I can get it to work once in a while but has to be remapped every stinking time you open Morphgear! hopefully, someone with a little skill can fix this soon...
The Rhodium (Touch Pro 2) is a WVGA (Wide VGA) device, which means it has screen resolution of 480x800. Normal VGA is 480x640, so there's a "bar" of 800-640=160 pixels left over at either the bottom or top of your screen when using applications which are written for VGA display.
However, there is a tool which virtually forces your screen to VGA. Basically this means you'll still have the black bar, but all VGA apps will work. Search this forum for "WVGA fix" and fetch it.
As for the black bars being there, call it evolution. I'm rather certain your TV gives you programs in 4:3 and 16:9, black bars are common there too, live with it as it's better than stretched images

True, that program works well. Been waiting use it since I had my htc wizard. Wish we could get the r for tp2 so we could have the buttons mapped properly.
emulation
Well there is smartgear that works great for 5 dollars. Also have you guys heard of Fcpse1.0 it a playstation emulator that works great.
I am attempting to create a layout with two objects of different sizes, one of which will be bigger than the other, about 80% of the screen. The other object will be the remaining 20%. Obviously you cant use percentages in the XML layout to make these objects the right size. Is there a better way to create these objects(they will be some type of view with a background that is a shape drawable) so that i wont have to get the screen resolution from java and do the math in there?
Thanks for the help.. if i get any this time..
Come on some one has to know.. this issue is holding my development up, i cant really go any further until i got this figured out.
I think dips (density independent pixels) are what you want to use. The android dev guide covers them. I can't post a direct link yet because I'm waiting for my account to be verified but a google search for "android dip unit" should get you to the relevant documentation.
Let's say you are using a vertical linear layout. Get screen size, sets smaller objects height to .2* screen height and the others height to fill parent.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Thanks for the replies. I will retry dips, they didnt seem to come out the same on my G1 as the did on the Evo. But maybe i failed somewhere. If it comes down to it I will just have to use java to resize the screen.
For some reason on my metro start page I have 6 apps down and its only spanning one page. I am running two monitors which are 1920 x 1080, my other pc is running a single monitor with a resolution of 1920 x 1080, why are they different and is there a way to change it ?
Hard to tell with out seeing, perhaps it something to do with dpi scaling which can be found by typing dpi on start menu. I have not seen dual monitors running windows 8 yet so I'm guessing.
You might want to check the charms settings/more settings option and see if its a setting there. I noticed an option for spreading desktop images across multiple monitors, it might be connected to that.
Hope that's of some help, If you could upload some comparative screenshots it might help tho.
I have read on other forums that Metro only appears on one screen, desktop on the other, there are still problems regarding multi screens, but remember it is a "Beta".
Lol, "Pre"-Beta, even. I love being an early adopter. No sarcasm, really, I do .
I've seen this before and it seems that the Metro UI configures itself based on resolution, DPI and possibly other specs as well. I first noticed it with 2 monitors set at the same resolution one having 4 roles of tiles and the other having 5, but even monitors with the same DPI can have a differing layout. I'm not sure what kind of algorithm MS is using to scale the new metro UI but it seems to be effected by several factors.
Hey thanks guys for the reply, my second monitor was a HD tv so maybe it detect this and forced the maximum tiles to decease. I did find on the net a way to change it but I think this was for the developers preview and the registry seems different now.

As for metro only appearing on one monitor this is true and it can be a little frustrating sometimes. For instance if you have the start menu open and then you start working on the desktop it closes the start menu and goes to what ever app that was just opened which is rather annoying, you also cannot move metro apps from one screen to another or at least I don't know how to.
Another annoyance is since win 8 with keyboard and mouse relies upon the corners when you try and pull the charms menu up you find your self rather going to the next screen. This is easily delt with as I just use windows key + C, but I would rather them just disable the charms menu for dual monitors with the mouse. Forcing you to use win + c so I don't have to see a transparent charms on occasion when I am moving to the second monitor.
Also is it just me or do other people think you need to be able to break up the apps on the start screen vertically as well as horizontally.
