Hey all, I was wondering if anyone knew how to activate the microphone while its plugged into the car? I use a 3 in 1 adapter where one of the ports converts it to a headphone jack so I can plug my HTC Herald to my car and listen to music. The problem is that when someone calls me and I answer the phone they dont hear me because the microphone is disabled. I have to unplug the entire connection just to talk at that point and replug it when I'm done. I noticed that my friends Iphone he doesnt have this problem and he just talks to them while having it connected to the car so I'm pretty sure it has to work!
Oh and selecting "Turn Speaker On" is disabled when plugged into the adapter as well.

Hi,
I have connected my KJam to my car stereo via a cable from the 2.5mm jack to the aux port of my car stereo. Tom Tom voice and phone calls are routed through my car stereo. Sometimes, the microphone will not work when I take a call. I can hear the caller perfectly but they can't hear me. Other times, the phone functionality works perfectly and we can both hear each other great.
If anyone can suggest any ideas, I would be very grateful.
Thanks
if your using a jack to connect it to your car, then its will prob. stop the mic working as its routing the audio to you car in the same way the headset with mic that you got with the k-jam does. I had this problem on mine, but due to the fact that i use a bluetooth neadset in the car fixed that little problem 8)
That's the end of my k-jam desires then.
I use my MDA compact in the same way you describe, for TomTom, Hands free calling and to play my music through.... and my microphone works fine with the headphone jack in.
I guess one thing to check would be the number of rings on your 2.5mm jack. If you have 3 then theres a possibility the k-jam thinks you have a mic on the end of the wire. If you have 2 rings (normal stereo headphones) then there must be another issue somewhere.
thanks for your replies. My concern was around the fact that sometimes the microphone works and sometimes not. I wonder if there is a workaround or a specific type of cable that I need to ensure that only the audio is routed and not the mic as well.
Thanks for all your help.l
never tried this myself, so i can only assume it would work. you could hack a cheap wired headset up, removing the earpieces but leaving the microphone. then add a stereo 3.5 plug so you can hook it up to your car stereo.
SpeedN
I have that very problem also, it's gotten that annoying that i've stopped using it through my stereo. you are able to get around it by popping the cable out of the kjam, then putting it back in.
pain in the ass though none the less.
What is the phone is set to Speakerphone ?
Even though Speakerphone is currently not working...
Hey all,
Just wondering if anyone has had any success in fixing this problem? I am having the same issue. I have a 2 ring 2.5-3.5mm adapter connected (so it should only be routing the audio, not the mic) and sometimes the caller can hear me, sometimes not. At one stage I found by unplugging the cable, setting to speakerphone, then unsetting speakerphone and plugging the cable back in would get it to work, but not anymore...
Any ideas?!?! I love my XDAII mini but this is driving me up the wall!
Cheers,
jlitjens
I need some help I have a U-Connect in my car and a PCC-6800 Mogul Phone. Here is the problem, when the phone is plugged into the Aux Jack of the radio for the use of the MP3 on the phone. The U-connect will make the call and hang up with-in seconds. So from what I can tell, when the phone is plugged into the radio its seeing itself plugged into a headphone mic jack and will not let the Bluetooth work correctly. (I have the same problem if I am in the car using a Bluetooth headset for phone calls and the phone plugged into the Jack for MP3. In another car.) So my question is this does anyone have a reg hack to fix this problem. And or does anyone know how to or which pin I can removed in the jack if that’s possible? Thanks!!!
Hi,
when I connect my wizard to aux-in in my car (via headhone jack), when I receive a call, the other person cannot hear me. I have to pull out the cable and then put it in again and then it is ok.
Any ideas?
Tnx
P.S. its G4 and I have tried a lot of roms
it's a hardware thing
the connector was ment for headsets with mic and earphones
and when connected mic and speaker in the device itself is always disabled
only thing you can do is to connect an ext mic using the same connector as
the car stereo as thats the only mic input the phone will respond to
when the cable is connected
thanks for answer.
Ill try what you suggested.
Hi everyone,
I'm wondering if it's possible to have built-in mic active when a cable is plugged into the 3.5 mmjack. For example...I connect the hd2 to the car stereo and if I get a call i need to disconnect the cable because the built-in mic is inactive.

Mine works when I plug mine into my car with a standard 3.5mm stereo cable.
Does the cable you're using have 1 or 2 black stripes on the plug?
i agree, this feature was one of the most pleasant surprises for me with the HD2.
on my kaiser, i used a special HTC headset that had an inline microphone (which i snapped on to my shirt collar) and this headset allowed me to plug in a standard 3.5mm stereo jack, which my car audio was plugged in to. this was the best solution at the time for the kaiser that allowed me to keep all cables connected and be able to use the car's speakers and have a working microphone all at once.
but with the HD2...WOW!!! i plugged in my car stereo's 3.5mm stereo jack straight into the HD2 and put on some music and started driving. a call came in while driving and i just pressed answer because i was still used to my kaiser set up (i had owned the HD2 for less than 24 hours at this point so wasn't quite used to it yet).
i started hearing the other party and i started speaking. and the other party could hear me. and THEN it hit me...i was like, holy hell!!!...what am i speaking in to? how come the other party can hear me?
great features, great phone!

I think it has two stripes since it's a stereo jack. I'm not sure but i think initialy I was able to speak in the car with the leo plugged into the stereo. May be some app I've installed later changed something?!?
the built in mic will stay active unless u have a cable with 4 connections (3 rings on the plug), a regular stereo cable has 2 rings. I've been using this type of setup for a couple of years with my previous phone, a.k.a. iphone. The mic is pretty sensitive and can pick up your voice rather well. I have my hd2 clipped to my sunvisor for easy access and routed the wiring inside the windshield molding down under the dashboard to the stereo and it works pretty good.

I am interested in purchasing this phone, but I read there is an issue with not being able to use the microphone while headphones are plugged in. I hook my current Android into my car stereo through my headphone jack and when people call, it uses the speaker phone to talk while I hear people on the car stereo. Would I still be able to do this on the Fascinate, or does that also disable the speaker phone mic, or are they the same mic?
im not sure what you are asking but i ahve no problems with it, i plug in my headphones with the mic in them and they work great, use them for listening to music and talking and love it
He means he has his phone plugged into the speakers in his car through the aux jack, and then when he gets a call he uses the speakerphone option to talk, and incoming voice audio plays on his car stereo. I do not think this will currently work on the fascinate...
You've heard right. It blocks speakerphone when headphones/aux are plugged in. It's quite a pain considering I use it as my music player in the car. It also ignores bluetooth while plugged in as well.
I got used to unplugging it when I get a call, though.
This is correct, and was almost a deal breaker for me. However, the car dock has a function where you don't need to plug in the AUX, only the micro-USB, and you can charge it as well as have audio output (the audio goes through the charging port, then is output by a 3.5mm output on the dock, and finally to your car's AUX in). This feature isn't enabled yet, but once Froyo is released it will be - and then we should be able to take calls over our car speakers without the mic being muted.
Just something to keep in mind,

So Indy, we can't use the car dock the way it was intended until froyo drops? That means I can't hear my nav thru the speakers while docked or any music?
Sent from my Fascinate
As I understand it, yes. There is a sticker on the port letting you know that it won't function properly until the release of 2.2. I'm still waiting on my dock to get here in the mail, but I've seen several threads elsewhere where this is discussed.
I don't think the dock has room, but if it does, you could still run an AUX cable from the headphone jack to your car's input, and have nav and music through the speakers - you just wouldn't be able to take calls with it connected because of the mic being muted with an AUX cable connected. Once 2.2 is released, as I understand, you'll be able to do it all.
Thanks for the help. It looks like ill be waiting before I make a purchase. I use slacker radio too much in my car and my deck doesn't have an auxiliary in, its old school tape deck so I have a device that plugs in the tape deck.
