Smileys and animated pics in sms? - XPERIA X1 General

Does anyone know of any software that lets u put smileys and animated pics in sms like u would have in a standard sony ericsson phone?

there is a bit of software called smiley SMS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=328363 although I don't know how well it works...let me know if you try it.

This subject has discussed at length in various places … there's no standard for smileys so they only work between phones with compatible software. I've tried SmileySMS - its really designed for qvga phones so icons are really small. It can interpret the smiley symbols -) etc) but symbols have to match its set.
Seems smileys don't appear to be a priority these days by manufacturers, iPhone doesn't support them either

i miss my animated pics that i could add to a sms on my sony w960. not so much the smileys

but those animated smilies would only be seen on other phones which supported
the same format other mobiles like wm devices would most likely just display it as garbage chars

true. only some people would get the animations(sony, moto phones) everyone else would not see anything, not even random chars. they were not animated smileys but a different animation. was good for sending to my girlfriend

Idea for outlined fonts - thoughts please

Having worked with rlToday, and currently coding an app to do something similar, I have wanted a couple of times to display text with an outline (ie white text with black outline so it is visible on any background) but simply printing a black version of the text in a bigger font underneath white text in a smaller fontsize does not work because of the way fonts are scaled.
However, this got me thinking...
What if one were to design a set of custom fonts for this purpose?
The way I am thinking, you would need two fonts - an "inner" version and an "outer" version. The outer version would have to be scaled about the centre of the letter, not about the baseline, and I would imagine that the spacing on the inner font would need to be as wide as the characters on the outer font.
So, before I waste loads of time getting font editors and seeing if it can be done, I would like to ask if anyone knows if this would be feasible, or if they have successfully done it or failed.
Another idea I suppose would be to print the outer font 4 times (left one, right one, up one, down one) - I guess this would have the same effect but at the cost of speed.
In an ideal world, it would be nice to not have to make an inner font - just to have to make an outer version of existing fonts, but I am not sure this would work unless you could set the spacing of the stock inner font wider.
Comments, suggestions please.
The classic path approach isn't working on WM?
Ultimatelaunch does it...I have two colored text and it looks pretty sweet. The font is called 'juice' not sure if that has anything to do with it though
What is this "Classic path" method you speak of?
At a guess I think you mean drawing a line around the font programatically?
This is not an option for some things, unless you have access to the source code - it would be nice to have a solution that could be implimented without needing to code for it in the app. For example, rlToday would benefit nicely from just such a system.
OK, so it has been done before then, although I did search around the net before I posted, honest!
It seems that the term used for the "inner" font is a "fill" font. I am going to try and find a freeware fill + outline font combo, pls let me know if you are aware of any.

When you say "Ultimatelaunch" does it - what do you mean? I bought UL and I do not see the font on my system or in the UL dir.
I see a "juice" font on the internet that is a fill+outline set, but it is not free.
So if it is possible, I may well have a bash at doing a free one myself. At the very least it would be worth doing just the numbers for SMS / email counts in rlToday
An update here:
My main use for something like this was to be with applications such as rlToday.
However, stefanux is now writing XIAMultiTheme (XMT) which is compatible with, and extends rlToday. One of the things XMT does is allow you to specify a directory as a font, and it will look for image files named accordingly
ie if you wanted to print "123" you would need "1.png", "2.png" and "3.png" in the directory you specify.
I have made a 16px high font of numbers in transparent PNG (Great for overlaying message counts onto icons) and added it to the XMT project for now.
If the need is still there in a while I will look at making a fill font combo and releasing it, maybe as part of the XMT project, but for now this is a good enough solution for me.

Full Screen Picture for Caller ID

How to get a Bigger or Full Screen picture for Caller ID? The Default one is pretty small.
There is no application? pls rep something
Have you tried some of the other Panels? Maybe spb or even the touchflo3d could have bigger caller pictures..
They do, but the resolution stinks...TF3D just blows up the little tiny picture bigger which is crap...
S2U2 has an option for enabling full-screen caller ID, but it stretches the tiny Windows Contact pic so it looks awful.
Oh god! This is so bad. There is not a single software? Shame on WM
There are several alternatives;
S2u2 as mentioned above, (set the contact pic using S2V btw, scales properly that way). Available in the Dev & Hacking section of this very forum.
As is iCaller http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=450187
Commercially theres
Phonex and Photo contacts pro both are really nice apps.
The manilla dialer is my favourite, and one reason why I tend to install it on most devices.. The blackstone one doesn't do fullscreen but it is much better than stock, and a nice slidey answer button.
There's probably more, but as you don't seem to want to search for them I won't either..
But the first find in GOOGLE comes up with these..

Ahhhh! Did not know that, good idea
Though I'm using "Fonebook" to sync Facebook pictures down to my Outlook contacts... I guess I have to pick one, huh.
I`m just testing out Photo Contacts Pro. The Photos are still crapped..to far to much compression noise...yes i reasigned them from the orignal source imagaes.
Ist Phonex looking better?
Ok found the settings to increase photo quality. 400 x 400 pixel and still a lot of compression artefacts...it has to be better...
Photo Contacts Pro is having a problem sending SMS...i get the message "this sms message cant be sent" anyone any idea what to do about it?
I like the SMS editor from photocontacts..larger buttons and all that stuff...

[App Request]SMS/MMS Notification...

I've attached two pics to this thread... one is of the iPhone SMS Notification and one is a SMS-Chat Text Notification I'm currently running on WinMo (as you can see both are practically the same). The SMS-Chat Text Notification is nice but when you click the Envelope (view) button it automatically opens the SMS-Chat client which needless to say is a big memory-hog. Is there anybody out there who can make a very lightweight QVGA SMS/MMS Notification app (in the same style of this SMS-Chat Notification or the iPhone SMS Notification pictured) that links to the native Windows Mobile Messaging program? It would be totally sweet if it would possible...
Thanks in Advance!!!
if u have the .cab pass it on lol
it looks nice
i like s2u2's tho but hey for the people that dont use it
thats pretty nice

Maybe a little clarification on my part is due... this Notification is part of the program SMS-Chat by Vito. While I love the notification part of this app (which I took a screenshot of on my Vogue), I truely dislike the remaining parts of SMS-Chat. I posted the screens because I was wondering if anyone would be able to make a simple, lightweight Notifiication Application just like the Notification part of SMS-Chat by Vito.
P.S. - The "Theme" in the background of my screenshot is not a "Theme" but is infact NFSFAN's v6 of Windows Mobile 6.5 for the Vogue with a Bamboo Wallpaper

HTC Messaging - font too small !!!

It's only me that complain about the fact that in htc messaging fonts are really too small...
ok I know it's possible to increase fonts a bit when in conversation mode but if you start a new sms the size of the carachters is barely readable. And then sms' are really too mall in traditional mode...
it's no sense to display font for a reply in a certain size and for a new messagge (new recipient) in a smaller font size.
this is a bug!
any solution?
thanks!

Emoji Question

When I open my keyboard to type a message and add emojis, the emojis that show up on the emoji keyboard look REALLY good but when I select an emoji the one that shows up in the message looks like it's a few generations old as if the graphics haven't been updated on it. Then when my friends get the emoji it looks different again. I realize iPhone will see a different style emoji but I didn't think Samsung's woukd too.
What's the deal with that?
I would add a screen shot to show you but this board won't let me add a photo.
